She's the bomb. I have only had 2 other long-term dentists in my life. My pediatric dentist and my adult dentist. Both of whom are in Union city which is too far for me now. I tried Ganji and Yang (look them up on yelp) but was turned off with their business style. They gave me a a bill of over $700...I'm writing their review next. So my hubby has been going to Dr. Tse for a quite some time because it was close to his PT office. To be honest i was kinda turned off that the receptionist had such a strong accent because sometimes it was hard to communicate with her. I had to repeat myself a few times. But the hubby reassured me that Dr. Tse is asian american and she's highly qualified. She went to Cal Berkeley AND UCSF which are both great schools. I should know cause I went to both =). Anyways, the office is amazing. it's the nicest dentist's office I have ever seen. Dr. Tse took digital photos of my teeth and showed me what she thinks of the prior dentists diagnosis. The prior dentist said i had 5 cavities ( i have never walked out of a dentist's office with more than 2 and I rarely have any) so i was quite hesitant with trusting the other dentist. Dr. Tse recommended that I fill in 3 since 1 was a void in a filling and was clean and the other she couldn't really see why it needed to be filled. Basically she would keep an eye on both. The three that she was filling in, one was a cavity, one was void in a filling and it was collecting food and the other I forget....so basically 1 cavity imo. so i said cool, let's do this! She broke out the laser drill! I have never heard of it. I was thinking I was going to be numb for the rest of the day but nope! she used the laser on me and it was painless. I got out of the dentist's office feeling like I never went to the dentist's office. I also like how when Dr. Tse was finishing off the surface. i guess the bite wasn't right but she was persistent asking me over and over again if it was ok. She is really good and I'm glad I found a new dentist that is close to home. Oh yeah, I work in SF and I took BART to her in oakland. She's at the 19th street stop. Bottom line: I'm coming back. My bill was less than $100 out of pocket. Compare this to the other dentist who said I should probably pay $700!!! read more

I've been going to Joyce since I was in high school and have been consistently wowed. Her staff is warm and friendly, and they are super thorough (and painless!!) with their routine cleanings. When some more out-of-the-ordinary procedures are called for (e.g. when my fiance came in with a chipped tooth), they are great about explaining the pros and cons of various options and helping you make informed decisions. The one annoyance I've encountered is that parking in the area is a little tough -- the meters within a block of the office only let you pay up for an hour at a time -- but it's walkable from the BART station. I've been seeing Dr Tse for several years now, and I was happy to find someone to replace my old dentist in Fairfax, who was the first dentist I actually liked. Dr Tse is similar to him - skilled, confident, always optimistic. My teeth are pretty bad, as I didn't get regular dental care for too many years when I was younger. For a while, when I was in Fairfax, I was alternating between a dentist and periodontist every 3 months, for several years. That cost me, since insurance only covers twice a year. Now, I've been going no more than twice a year, and my teeth are still doing fine. When I had a problem with an old root canal on a tooth with very crooked roots, she tried to do it, but realized it required a specialist; she didn't hesitate to admit her limitations, and the specialist almost gave up before finally getting it done. This is why I trust her, and keep coming to her. Maybe this is why you see such good ratings, except the one bozo who doesn't seem to understand that dentists don't work for free, and doesn't understand the difference between what they charge the insurance company and what the patient pays for copayment. Too bad he/she misunderstood, but I'd be embarrassed to even admit I thought they would do it for free! Why would they want to do that? The world is full of dummies, so ignore this one, folks! Dr. Joyce might be real good at many things but our experience with her making a top denture wasn't a good one. What we got was a poorly made and fitted denture (for my wife) that looks like a stock denture and not something custom fitted to her lower teeth. It was only a couple months after receiving it that the first of three cracks occurred right down the middle. Fortunately the third time it cracked (the first two times Joyce had it repaired) we were on a plane to visit family in Peru and to get a new denture where she had always gotten excellent results before. Joyce's office charged us $1,500 for one poorly made denture. In Peru my wife new of an expert denture technician who made her a well fitted well crafted denture and a backup one for less than $400 total. Vince read more

Dr. Tse and her staff have been taking care of my teeth for well over 10 years, and I don't ever want to have another dentist. She and her staff are very friendly and gentle and remember me by name now. I've had a good range of work done there (fillings, root canals, crowns), and I've never had post-work pain. I regularly schedule my next six-month cleaning/checkup because Dr. Tse makes me care about my teeth. She explains everything very well and if you have several options and she's leaning towards one, she will explain why she feels that way and her reasoning is always extremely practical... as in, she wants it to last forever and never cause you discomfort in any way! Even her referral to an endodontist was flawless. She truly does seem to have my best dental interests at heart and I feel fortunate that I don't have a dentist that makes me dread my cleanings and checkups. And it's not just her: Her staff is amazing as well! Even her receptionist is super nice. Anytime anyone tells me they need a dentist, I ALWAYS refer them to Dr. Tse and her wonderful team. EDIT (9/6/08): I recently noticed a very slight crack in one of my crowns that she previously did for me. I have no idea what happened - I guess it could be that broken glass pie I love to eat. Anyway, I went in today, got an X-Ray, and she reassured me it was superficial. Then she spent some time buffing it smooth to ensure the bite was more fitting for me. She spent maybe 30 minutes taking care of me and, after she was done, her receptionist said, "Oh, Joyce said no charge." I was pleased but not shocked - she's just that kind of dentist. As in, the best in the world, no kidding. I would get her name across a heart tattooed on my arm if it wasn't so, you know, totally creepy. People would point to my arm and ask, "Your mom?" And I'd give that knowing look and go, "Nope. My dentist. Peace out." read more

Dang I wish my job still had the insurance that they accept here at Dragon. Dr Joyce, she is like the best. I have only had one bad experience with another dentist, who by the way smoked stogs on his break from working on my teeth and came back smelling like an ash tray but that's a whole 'notha review lol (luckily I can laugh about it now) so that was enough for me to go through extensive research to find a more professional..More sanitary. More patient...ehh just all around "better than him" dentist. Word of mouth is a mutha, someone from my job told me about this office and they said they loved it. That was enough for me to check it out and get a free consultation. Dr Joyce explained specifically what I needed and did not rush me at all during the appointment, she told me exactly what would happen if I were to have the procedure done. I needed a crown on my front tooth which broke a few years back and looked very bad..yea that sh** looked really bad. Yes I was in desperate need to get it done however I was not going to settle for a quick fix. I was going to make sure I did it right the first time around and not have to get it redone if I'm not satisfied. Well anyways Dr. Joyce makes you feel confident in how she is going to fix your problem...they are really top quality there. they hand you magazines whenever your waiting and I've never waited more than 10 min probably not even that long, their lobby is spa-like, the staff is hella nice... After prep I went directly to the lab which was conveniently right next to my home and they specifically matched my tooth. Well I got the permanent and it looks like my tooth. It is smooth and comfortable not like the rough crown I have from the "toking dentist". Dam I'm happy I went there, the only thing is they don't accept my insurance so I ended up paying the full cost of the crown however she gave me a discount on the normal cost because she understood that I did have insurance but they weren't one of the preferred dentists with my insurance, but that's fine because if she was, she probably wouldn't have been as good as she is because all the dentists on my insurance's "preferred list" SUCK. They are the worst ones; the ones who you don't even want to have something as simple as an extraction done. I have to get some new insurance so I can come back here, however, if I need any major work done I know where to go now. Don't mind paying the full amount rather than paying 1/3 of the full amount and being unsatisfied and getting it re-done. Just get it done the right way the first time around. And to add this in I am getting braces soon I'm getting it done by an orthodontist closer to my home, even though she knew I was not going to get the braces through their office she said she still wants to see the outcome and was excited for me....Excited for me?! Awhhh shucks that was nice, I was like dang she was excited for me that's cool, she's straight in my book. She didn't go sour just because I was getting braces somewhere else she still was concerned about my teeth. Its refreshing to know that their are some professionals out there who take their work seriously, who are passionate about doing the best they can (tear). lol 4 real Dr Joyce is the real deal.
