I've lived in Fresno for over ten years looking for this place, I've tried others but this is the best Chinese food I've had in Fresno. We were seated right away but we came early. Very nice and accommodating staff and no long wait for our soup or entrees. The food was delicious, luckily I ordered too much so I'll enjoy it again over the weekend. I ordered, shrimp fried rice, broccoli beef, sweet n sour pork, lemon chicken & another dish I forgot the name but it's with shrimp, chicken, beef, peanuts and zucchini. The food is not authentic, never in the history of shrimp fried rice is rice boiled, with boiled shrimp peas and pieces of egg. The lemon chicken was probably the best of everything I ordered. The sweet n sour was dry, the broccoli beef was ok but the other unnamed item had no flavor. We had to go home and add spices just to eat. You get a lot for $60.00 but if it's bland then you've over paid. Sorry, I wont return! read more

It's been at least a decade since I'd eaten here. The servers were very gracious and patient. This reason alone is enough to come again. The biggest complaint we've had with local Chinese restaurants is the huge amount of batter coating many of the protein items. I'm very happy to say this is NOT the case at Tsing Tao. My go to Chinese restaurant item is Mongolian beef. We ate this dish, but it looked like we hadn't. There was such a generous amount of grilled onions that the plate had a layer of onions left. It was OK in flavor. Texture of the beef was quite delicate. The kids are a fan of chicken salad at Chinese restaurants. Flavors were good. The batter on the chicken was perfect, in textures and flavors. Also, the pineapple dressing was typical for local Chinese restaurants. In retrospect, I should have eaten this with chopsticks. It took patience to eat with a fork. This was my fault. The other kid asked for orange chicken. This was the same chicken as in the salad, but with an orange flavored sauce poured over it. It was OK. The dish I really liked was the Szechuan fish filet. The fish filet was battered and cooked perfectly in bite sized pieces. The sauce was good and the accompanying vegetables were very nice. There was one glaring omission however. I did see any of the Szechuan peppers. I think I understand this restaurant. It seems they're attempting to cater to a population that doesn't like Chinese flavors, or spice levels. Hopefully, they can adjust the style on request. There was almost no hot peppers on any of the dishes where we expected peppers. The Mongolian beef also was shy on green onions. The cook was perfect, and the textures were great. This is the third time I have been here in the last 6 months. This restaurant used to be quite good. I have been extremely surprised that during these last 3 visits, the food has been not edible. The broccoli beef was watery. The chicken chow neon had next to NO Chicken, no taste and watery as well. The portion of honey walnut shrimp was tiny and not tasty at all. I'm done with this place. Wonderful! Our party of five immensely enjoyed one of their specialty dinners, served on a fun Lazy Susan platform in the center of our table. To begin with, the food was exceptional, delicious and of high quality, and obviously prepared by a chef with advanced training--far from what one typically gets at your average Chinese restaurant. The sizzling rice soup was so flavorful, and entrees including house specialty chicken and beef, crispy beef, and Kung pao chicken were spot on. A special mention to the wait staff who worked together seamlessly in presenting food and attending to our table. Never did a person walk by without doing something productive--bringing food, refilling water, clearing plates, inquiring of our needs, offering food, etc. We were treated well and it made a difference. Ambience is a bit lackluster, but there's enough decor in the large open strip mall space to help patrons immerse themselves in a delightful Chinese meal experience. read more

Did NOT pass "The Emperor Test." Although the service was good, the food came out fast and it's a nice clean sit down restaurant, I found the food here far too standard and simply lazy. I wouldn't enjoy eating here again even if the meal was FREE! There was nothing unique or interesting, flavors lacked depth, layers, or interest. It was just boring. The fried rice was not, in fact, fried but was simply plain white rice mixed with egg. I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan lunch special and a small order of 'assorted wonton soup.' The special came with egg flower soup which was too salty. The egg roll was simply tasteless and filled with the most uninspired cabbage and nothing else. No hint of white pepper or any other spice. How do you make this so flavorless? The answer is, 'you do as LITTLE as possible when making them,' no shake of the wrist to season it, no added chop of anything contrasting to mix it up or to stand out. The salad was simply lettuce and dressing. The Moo Gai Pan was likewise created in a 'just fill the requirement' kind of way. The mushrooms and the zucchini were not the slightest bit cooked, there was no caramelization or variation in the texture because it was simply RAW. The flavor of the sauce was weak chicken flavoring without anything else. It could not have been less inspired. The fried rice was likewise something just to fill a plate. Everything they served was 'ho-hum' style! The Assorted Wonton soup was a sad mix of mushy veggies and a couple of tasteless wontons and anemic shrimp. The wonton must have been from yesterday's batch and were complete mush. The broth was weak water and again lacking in flavor. Having looked closely at the pics here, I NOW understand what I'm seeing: Food that looks great but is LACKING dimension or attention to details. Because I like to cook, I understand how to make the food special by paying attention to the layers, the textures, the seasoning, the unique blend of spices or that SOMETHING EXTRA that makes the dish memorable. There was none of that here! When I used 'The Emperor Test,' which I'm just making up now, I decide between several Asian restaurants (in terms of flavor, texture, mastery of nuance) which I would serve 'The Emperor' to please him. This place would NOT be on my list. For the Emperor would delight in the appearance and RECOIL at the lack of taste/interest! This, in turn, might have resulted in my hands being cut off! Moral of the story: Good Eats for takeout makes the 'Emperor in me' delighted and thankful for good food! Expertly prepared with nuance, depth, variation and flavor, it's the difference between the busboy being promoted to cook at Tsing and a schooled Master of Chinese Cuisine at Good Eats! Been going here for the past 11 years, it's actually my wife's favorite Chinese food in town, I do prefer other restaurants but this one is solid. I actually like the greasy fried type of Chinese food, and this isn't like that at all. Food is solid and the service has relatively been good. The egg flower soup is good as well as the won ton soup. My favorite is probably the shrimp Kung pao. Food is ordered as family style so it's a large portion meant to be shared, if you don't order dishes by meals you'll need to order rice or noodles separately if you want to eat your food over either. read more

Came here after searching for a legit Chinese food spot here on yelp. The reviews were definitely true! The service here is awesome. As soon as you walk in you're greeted And assisted. The Place is a little small but it's cozy. I had the house chow mein, Mongolian chicken, steamed rice, and the pao pao appetizer (I think that's what it was called). I never leave bad reviews as I try to follow the "if you don't have anything good to say..." edict. However I feel as if people should know that when this restaurant advertises they are open for lunch until 2:30, they really mean it. My husband, mother and I arrived at 1:40 for a quick lunch. We promptly ordered and servers were quick to bring food. Two servers stood one table away from us staring directly at us as we ate. We are always very conscientious about finishing a meal before closing time. We were not sitting around visiting when our food was in front of us. Servers tried to remove my plate even though I wasn't quite done. My 91 year old mother does eat on the slower side so she always asks for a to go box when her meals arrive. One server in particular kept approaching my mom and asking "are you done yet?" They brought the bill at 2:15 at which time my mom promptly took out her card to pay even though she was still eating. Mom only ate a few more bites as the servers had moved closer to the table and were staring at her. Finally my mom decided it would be better just to take the rest of her lunch home as we were all feeling uncomfortable and knew they wanted us out of there. One sever came and put my moms food in the container (which was kind). My mom was putting her credit card away and opening her fortune cookie trying to get the fortune out. As the server was closing the container she told us, "we have closed you know". I pressed the home button on my phone, as I had every 5 minutes to make certain we left before 2:30, it was 2:26. The food was not worth the stress and unwelcoming environment. This restaurant should change their closing hours if they want diners out before 2:30. We were out the front door before 2:30. The worst part was the one server feeling the need to make my elderly mother feel like a nuisance. My mom is very independent, lives on her own and very mobile this kind of treatment was completely unnecessary. read more

As a Chinese food connoisseur who has tasted some of the best Chinese food in Asia, I have to say the food here pales in comparison to the authentic food I know and have tasted, but being in America (let alone Clovis) where authentic Chinese food is difficult to find, the food here is actually quite good despite lacking the authenticity, with the added bonus that its price is ridiculously affordable. The menu at Tsing Tso caters prominently to the American palate with generic American Chinese offerings such as Kung Pao Chicken, honey walnut shrimp and orange chicken. However, the menu does incorporate some real Chinese like dishes, for example sizzling beef with mix vegetable, not many but there are a few listed if one was to look and take the risk to try. The restaurant itself isn't fancy, the decor is tawdry and look kind of dated. However the place is clean and seats groups easily. The service itself has always been pleasant, and the waitress although vaguely speaks english is understandable, and is able to communicate. Ive experienced two occasions here, the first coming for lunch, where they have a cheap lunch set starting as low as $7, it wasn't amazing, but it wasn't horrible. The second was ordering takeout when I was vegan. I tried the bean curd with brown sauce $6.50 and Szechuan Bean curd for $6.50. The szechuan beancurd was my favorite by far, since the taste had a kick of heat to it from the chilis, while the taste had a good balance of light sweetness and touch of saltiness. I do compliment the restaurant for being very generous with the tofu in my dish, I had so many pieces that I felt contented with the serving. The brown sauce bean curd, was also quite good, a silky savory tasting brown sauce topped over a perfectly deep fried bean curd. Tsing Tao clearly lacks in being an authentic Chinese restaurant, however once carefully inspecting the menu, I discover that they do have some offerings of real Chinese dishes, not many but at least some. Therefore for those looking to savor the true delicacy of Chinese cuisine this place might disappoint, but for anyone who celebrates at the sight of orange chicken and deep fried shrimp in sauce, you are in for a treat. read more

I was staying at the Holiday inn, Clovis for work. Around 7ish I decided to go for walk and food, I checked a few places and decided fr the Japanese Restaurant, but when I got there it was crowded. This restaurant was next to it, so I when in. The food was okay, for its price. $25 for 1 combination dinner and 1 appetizer.... Egg Rolls smelled like they were fried on old oil, the soup tasted like burnt rice (I'm not sure if that is the flavor of the soup; since I've never had it before) I had the honey walnut shrimp and even though I liked that the shrimp wasn't covered on a thick layer of flour, and it wasn't sliced, at least that's a plus. However, it was also oily, funny because I could taste the flavors of the honey and the old oil at the same time. It was accompanied with white rice, the rice was good and the only thing that didn't taste it like burnt. In addition, the waitress just came 4 times, to bring my menu and water, to take my order, to bring my food and to bring my check. I had to wait each time to ask for a water refill. I would have understand if the restaurant was busy; but there was just 5 tables besides mine, and 4 waitresses. In conclusion neither the service; nor the food was good.
