    Crab rangoon.
    Dan T.

Took the kids to Tsing Tsao West/Urbandale for lunch a while back This place used to be a solid go-to for me, but over the past year(ish) or so the food seemed to have slipped in quality. Ownership or kitchen change maybe? This stop was more of a convenience for me... I know the menu, what the kids like, and that they weren't likely to be too busy. Garlic chicken, beef lo mein, orange chicken, an order of crab rangoon, and three fountain drinks... $30 and change before tip. I was pleased to find today's food reminded me of how it used to be before it went downhill (imo). It was all good including the hot and sour soup. It's still not Shanghai (or Great China...I really miss Great China) but it was better than buffet quality. Typical fast casual Chinese food. I'll have try it again, sooner rather than later, to see if they are truly back on track or if this was a fluke. Date of service 07/21/2018

If you've ever been to Denver and visited one of the "scoop" establishments, the food quality is about on par. The price of $5.50 or so for a lunch is good--it includes some soup, a small crab rangoon, fried rice, an egg roll and your entree. If spicy food is your thing you'll be disappointed as very few Hunan and szcheuan-type entrees are available. The restaurant was quite dirty when I entered around one o clock; it appeared the limited staff had trouble keeping up with the lunch rush. Soiled plates abound.

I've come here a couple times over my lunch break when I was wanting Chinese food -- quick. The food is very bland at this particular location, I'm not sure what it is that they do differently but the other two locations are much better, specifically the South location. I did know this beforehand from my prior visits and asked for 4 stars to add some heat and extra flavor. I honestly think they forgot to put any in there. Anyway, I really don't think it's worth the time and money to come here just out of sheer convenience. I happened to ask a couple questions upon my visit. First when they brought my food out, I asked if they had duck/plum sauce (they do not, bummer). Secondly when I was comfortably full, I asked for a box. They seemed annoyed & inconvenienced at both questions, though they did have a box for me! One thing in particular I did like was they were playing Christian music over their speakers. I thought that was neat and relaxing.

Walk in: Say for here or to go, and then order. Your food will come out quickly, and it will be a huge pile of it. We chose to dine in. Much to my dismay, the material on the seats is completely falling apart. We sat in a booth, and little pieces of fabric stuck to my legs (I was wearing shorts). It grossed me out. It's bad. It's really bad. It's beyond the "part of the charm" and into severe neglect. Why not spend a little and get all of the furniture reupholstered to keep your restaurant looking nice? Anyway, the food came out instantly, and we sat and ate. We both had the Kung pao chicken. It was fine, but nothing amazing. The spring rolls were crunchy on the outside, but gooey on the inside--not the best. I'd say this place is fine for a quick lunch, but it will not be my go-to for Chinese food.

    General Tso's Chicken - lunch

Tsing Tsao allows you to order via their website and choose a time to pick up. When I arrived it was ready, as expected. The General Tso's chicken was pretty good. I'd gladly have it again. Their crab rangoons were average and lacked some flavor, but they were cooked right and not over done. I also got an egg roll, which was below average. Again it was cooked right but didn't have any noteworthy flavor. The rice was probably above average, though a bit too much soy sauce was used in the preparation. Fried rice with just soy sauce and a few frozen vegetables isn't usually a winner, though. The hot and sour soup was above average. The service was nice and fast. They do have lunch specials, which drew me to order here. I see potential and would likely come back for more dishes during lunch.

Our order was delivered earlier than expected and still piping hot and fresh. The meal was very tasty.

Food was very average. Sweet and sour chicken was all breading and no chicken. Chicken, egg roll and crap Rangoon were very greasy.

The plexiglass wall that closed off the open kitchen during Covid has been removed. I've been here a couple of times since dine in reopened, but had still done take out anyway as my girlfriend lived not far away there in Grimes. She recently moved... We missed the food...and seeing Lily and Ken! So we decided to drive over and grab a table. When we walked in we were greeted right away. It had been a minute since we'd last been in. I was happy to see Lily working at the counter and Ken busy in the kitchen along with the rest of their staff! Seating is all low top tables and chairs. Mostly tables for four and two. Now instead of table service (like it was pre-Covid) it's more order and pay at the counter. Take a seat. The food is brought to you on disposable plates with plastic silverware. Drinks are cans or bottles. There are no napkins or condiments at the tables. Condiments like soy sauce and spicy mustard are served in packets. Sweet and sour still comes in a cup. Bus your own table into the trash receptacle when you are done. The food was as good as it ever was! We ordered an order of the crab rangoon. These seemed a little lighter on the filling than I remember them being in the past... They were served hot and fresh out of the fryer! I got the Yu Shang shrimp. Probably my favorite entree here and my go to. It was fantastic as always! I struggled eating it a little with my plastic fork... The tines kept bending on the firmer components of the dish. Heather ordered chicken fried rice and added shrimp (extra spicy). Another awesome dish! And I benefited from some leftovers she brought home... Lol I'll say that overall the food here is still top notch... Lily and Ken are two of my favorite owners in the metro! Couldn't ask for two better hosts... Take out business is still booming! While we dined in the stream of people picking up their orders, or coming in to place take out orders, was constant. But... The overall dine in experience has changed... We adapt to survive and we lost a lot of businesses during Covid... Some businesses that had been open for decades... Asian Cuisine adapted to a take out only model and made it through. Can I blame them for continuing to evolve while bringing the dine in option back? No I can't. In fact I want them to do WHATEVER it takes to keep their doors open...! I can even bring my own silverware... Lol I'm really not that picky and can grab something to eat anywhere. I see closure notices come through my feed almost weekly. Some are kind of a bummer, but they really don't impact me much even when it's a place I go to often. No real personal connection... It's different for me here. I'd probably cry like a little kid who just had one of their childhood beliefs shattered... I'm also not going to lie and say I don't miss things the way they were... I think as a rule a lot of us could say the same about many things today.
