Tsunami is a perfect date night restaurant. Seating is intimate, with artwork on the walls, professional servers, wonderful drinks, and come-back-for-it entrees. I have no negatives at all here. Not one. Book your reservation online and expect to be there for about 90 minutes. The pace is fine. Dining, so take your time. Pinch tiny bites of that delicious bread and butter it. Please try the sea bass with the black rice.

After a long 11 hour drive to see my bestie in Memphis I was tired and hungry. Not wanting anything heavy as I needed sleep. My friend suggested Tsunami as he knows I have a love for wedge salads. It was the perfect place to end a long day. The service was amazing and we made new friends at the bar and reconnected with other friends. The menu looks pretty amazing and the daily specials are the highlight. I can't wait to return with a growling stomach and more energy. Service is superb!

Very chic establishment in the heart of Cooper-Young. The server was attentive and the drinks were stiff. I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy potstickers and bacon wrapped dates. The meatballs were good as well.

There's been a lot of recent hype about Tsunami, so we visited on Friday night. The dining room has a really cool vibe, but the acoustics are horrible, making it rather difficult to converse. The front of the house team works like well oiled machine, but our server was really not very good. We had to flag her down a couple of times. She asked my husband if we wanted another drink and then immediately left the table before I could say I wanted another, too. Never mind. We enjoy having cocktails and small plates, so we ordered 4 of the 6 appetizers and the glazed Tofu. The clams were very good, but I felt like everything else was average, at best and overpriced. I can't say we'd return.

Really cute place. Seem to get busy quick, luckily we had a reservation. The lemongrass shrimp pasta was amazing, the sauce was so good. Perfect. The salmon was nice, too. Calamari wasn't my favorite as it seem to lack flavor outside of the sauce. Service was standard. Food came out in a decent time. We were here on a birthday outing and I indicated that when I made the reservation, the waitress even took a picture of use for me but no inquiry on why we were there. Thought that was interesting.

Incredibly unique flavors -- sea bass sauce was unlike anything I've had and the combo with the rice and fish was amazing. Also had the mussels, calamari, dumplings, and scallops. Scallops were really good, calamari wasn't the most flavorful or crispiest I've had as the breading felt thick. Mussels were interesting, I didn't love the curry or sake but very unique! Dumplings were fine, not memorable but not bad. Also got the sorbet, very normal sorbet. They were out of ginger donuts but those sounded really good Overall a good meal, expensive but yummy! Would probably say the scallops and sea bass were the most worth it. Ambiance was nice, interesting decor and kind of dark but cute! Food came out incredibly fast

Great seafood and tapas restaurant! Located in a cool artsy part of town, the setting is cozy and elegant, and the patio seating offers a great vantage point over the entire neighborhood. I first tried their Paloma drink special, not a fan. For appetizers I tried the bacon wrapped dates; very good, although they should use bigger Medjoul dates for this Spanish tapa. I also tried the glazed pork meatballs, not a fan either. My entree was the spice crusted seared tuna on wasabi cucumber salad, excellent! Creme brûlée for dessert was a good finish. This restaurant is pricier than Yelp rating of $$ seems to indicate. I give them five stars for the creative menu, and four for the execution.

5 stars for service. Our waiter, Jeff, was spectacular and that is an understatement. He knew the menu A-Z and explained it without being condescending. He offered great suggestions on what to order. He was never intrusive: he knew when to talk to us and when to give us space. He treats the people at his tables as guests and friends and not just numbers on a table roster. He was genuinely nice; it wasn't plastic small talk. 3.5 stars for the food. The sea bass was perfection. Full stop. Buttery, flaky, flavorful, crispy. Perfect. The sauce was a tad salty for my personal taste but it was a good counterbalance with the blackened sticky rice. The sea bass itself did not need the sauce. The spicy shrimp potstickers were spicy with flavor and not spicy with added seasoning. (This was perfect for me as I do not like it when food is so spicy that my mouth is on fire.) Just drizzle the soy sauce over the potstuckers for an added punch of flavor. Dunking the potstickers in the soy sauce overwhelms the flavor of the filling. The black bean soup was rather bland and needed a pinch of salt. We paired it with their fresh baked bread and that enhanced the flavor. Be sure to add some of the scallions to each bite of calamari with the aioli. It adds a pleasant, unexpected flavor. Bonus: there are very few tentacle pieces in the calamari. The ginger doughnuts were rather nondescript. They are essentially warm cake with ice cream. However, if you really like coconut, these are worth trying. Creme Brule. Perfection. Really, it was perfect. We loved how thin the caramelized crust was and, unlike too many restaurants, the pastry chef didn't go crazy with his blowtorch. Just enough for the crunch-in-your-mouth feel. And the custard... in a word or two... so good!

Great unique dining experience in Midtown Memphis. I took my wife here for her birthday a few weeks back, and I was impressed all around. Both the dining area and bar are great atmospheres. The bartender was outstanding as well; he made a great martini and provided great wine recommendations. Our server was equally outstanding. The food was also great. Classic American dining with a hip, Asian touch. I highly recommend for a special occasion or date night.

Tsunami is somewhat of a hidden Memphis treasure. Though it's right in the heart of the Cooper-Young district, it can look like a blip, when you're driving down Cooper Street. However, in my humble opinion, this restaurant is no blip on the radar. It's a tsunami. It's a cozy spot for a nice date night or maybe a little pre-gaming at the bar. It's a total neighborhood favorite. The service is such that you feel like you're at home and everyone is family. Very easygoing atmosphere with nicely muted lighting. The food does not disappoint. Many dishes are Asian-inspired, like the wasabi deviled eggs. They offer small plates and regular entrees. This is a good restaurant for fish dishes. It's a place where you won't leave totally stuffed and weighed down, but your culinary needs will still be completely satisfied. Oh. The desserts are pretty good. Including sorbets, crème brûlée and chocolate stout cake. The patio is intimate, yet fun for people watching. This restaurant is a total win in my humble opinion!! Put it on your radar!

Their spicy margarita is actually spicy AND strong, so that's my drink recommendation! As well as trying the outdoor bar, I also went into the restaurant side to sit and try more food. I do think the prices for food are a little high, but you can tell that the dishes are fresh and high-quality (I believe they get their noodles from Good Fortune downtown). For example, this noodle dish was $18 and it was just filling enough. I will go back to try more things because the food and drinks were great quality, and the ambiance exudes a funky New Orleans bar. Just be ready to drop some $!

I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. Some are fantastic! All are very good! I have had nothing but great food here for many years! I have only had one bad meal here. Catfish Picante and it is long gone it seems! I wrote a long ass draft I never published (thank god), after that visit. I do believe it was my first time here and I almost didn't return. What a waste that would have been. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice. The desserts are always killer as well. I guess I'll catch you at the new place soon! Love you guys!! '25 - Finale

The coconut adds a subtle crispness without overpowering the roll, and the seafood flavor still comes through. It's not overly complex. 2.
