My first time eating there I felt like a rock star when I entered the establishment. When you walk in you can see the kitchen and many of the staff know my husband so it felt like every employee there was cheering for us. It put a huge smile on my face. At first I thought they did this just for us because they knew us but I'm pretty sure they did that for everybody that walked in. I think the food is fabulous. Not bad but not good. I was unhappy at the large amount of sushi offered that was fried, contained imitation crab meat, or was topped with eel sauce. I thought the tuna and salmon sushi was heavy on rice and thin on the fish. Our appetizer seaweed and cucumber salads came out at the end of the meal. Came here during COVID-19 to order sushi. Walked round for fifteen minutes, enough time for the sushi to be ready. When I came back the staff seemed suspicious. They closed a take out box with sushi in it that looked like it had been sitting out and handed it to me. I ate the sushi when I got home and it didn't taste good as it usually does. This place was quite a disappointment in my own personal opinion. I'm not a sushi expert, I will honestly admit that, but sushi is one of my favorite foods. That is why I was so excited to hear there was a sushi place in Moses Lake when I first moved here back in September of 2013. My first impression of this restaurant was 'charming' since the decor wasn't over the top. Upon being seated though, I immediately noticed the waitress being very short with us. (my fiancée and myself) I chalked it up to it being a busy night but I quickly found that it was more than her being short with us. One of my personal pet peeves would be when the waitress either throws down or slams down a plate or cup; I usually excuse the first time it happens but when it's a regular thing it really gets on my nerve. Combined with short answers and clear avoidance of our table and I quickly get irritated. My second issue with this restaurant would be the prices; I've had cheaper sushi in the middle of the desert. I didn't order anything particularly complicated or a great abundance of food, meaning I left hardly satisfied, with a check for $80. The sushi was mediocre and extremely basic, no flavors stood out at all. In the end I was just left wanting more and not happy about the price. If sushi is vital to your survival then I suppose this place will hold you over but my suggestion would be to visit Spokane from time to time to get a decent taste for your craving, "Sushi I" being my personal favorite choice. read more

Based on my first experience, I will definitely be going back. Very friendly staff and the food (I had a stirfry) was very tasty. The oddity was that there was white cloth napkins, but they had the cheapest of cheap cutlery. I'm guessing that I was supposed to use chopsticks, even though I was never offered any. Also as I was seated at a window seat, I had full view of a staff member putting out his smoke and spitting on the sidewalk before he walked in for his shift and the owner himself smoking outside the front door. Great place for Japanese food in Moses Lake. Not exaclty what you would expect to find and a meat and potato town in the middle of Washington State. No salt water for 200+ miles but the sushi here is really good and very fresh. I spent a year in Japan for college and Tsunami's is pretty authentic. I have been in a few times and the owner stops by the table to check in on you. Great atmosphere and great food. Nice change of pace from the other options in Moses Lake. read more

Worst customer service I've ever been around. Came to the restaurant at a slower part of the day. From the time we created an order and received our food the wait time was approximately an hour. I was very excited when I found a well reviewed sushi place in Moses Lake, so I was really looking forward to eating at Tsunami Sushi. First- we were deciding to go to our usual Thai by Safeway or give this new place a try. All food on menu are expensive compared to other sushi places we go to in Seattle or other cities. $25 and up are average dish such as teriyaki beef. Then when I ordered off their menu, the waitress says "it is not good and not popular!" Ended up ordering very thinly sliced chicken teriyaki on a sad- looking lettuce leaf. Never once did they come to see if everything was ok once we got. I visited today for lunch with 2 friends and we had a sub-par experience. While ordering lunch there was confusion with the server when ordering, since two versions of the menu were at our table. When I referred to the dish by name in my menu, I was corrected by the server. I said no, it's right here. He indicated I must have been given the Dinner menu, but after I closed the menu, that wasn't the case. When our less than stellar bento boxes arrived on a slate platter (not a box), the fish, chicken and beef weren't cut, which is acceptable if they bring knives! In addition to cutting utensils we had to request chopsticks. When the server returned after being asked to provide these eating devices, he dropped a set of chopsticks on the ground, picked them up, and plunked them on our table. No soy sauce dishes were provided, so we used a small bowl from a previous appetizer. An order of Tamago was more like soup and generally unedible. Prices are above average given quality, service and market size. Our uninspired Bento boxes were $18. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I thought I would give this a try, and it was ok. The sushi roll was good. I have to admit I am spoiled a bit. My old hometown in California had many sushi resturants, so I am used to high quality sushi and this was ok. The service was great and friendly, so I did enjoy the place. They have many rolls, and plenty of non sushi dishes on the menu. They were a little pricey, but you kind of expect it for an inland sushi place. It was absolutely horrible (hilarious) experience. My boyfriend and I felt weird vibe as soon as we walked in. It was nothing like a Japanese restaurant we had expected. We stared at the menu for a few minutes but couldn't find anything we want to eat. We ended up ordering Chef's special Beef dish and Bento Box, but had to wait for 30 minutes to be served. In the meantime I was very surprised to see people come and go for a take-out. I didn't see any other Japanese customers except for us. There was not even one Japanese server. They were either servers who speak Spanish or Chinese. This young male server who served us was chewing gum and mumbling we couldn't hear him quite clearly. The female server who brought our food had absolutely no idea what she was serving. I was already in shock with the presentation of the dish, so asked "what is this?" she answered "I dunno..." No kidding. The Bento Box is not even in a BOX. It's in a TRAY! My Beef dish was actually a BOWL which didn't even mention in the menu. It's supposed to be Teriyaki beef but this version makes so weird with a fried egg on top of it. To be honest I didn't care for Teriyaki Beef I ordered it just wanting to see how weird the dish was. Everything in the menu is overpriced. With the same amount money we paid (Beef dish for 15, Bento Box for 18), we could eat 100 times better Teriyaki from any Teriyaki joint in the Seattle area. Maybe I should've ordered Sushi-Rolls instead? We will not be back for sure. read more

If you have any prior knowledge of good sushi (by good sushi I mean fresh, real, authentic, not from the sushi chain in the mall....) then you do NOT need to waste your time or money coming here. I have been here twice. The first time I got tuna and salmon sashimi, a miso soup, and split one of the roles (don't remember the name) with a friend. The fish was literally still frozen in the middle.... WTF?! The role was ok, not terrible, but not good. And it had some sort of mayo sauce slathered all over the top. The sauce itself tasted fine, but when I go out for Japanese food I want my food to be fresh and light, not slathered in fatty americanized sauces. Then for the miso.... I'm not sure you can even call this miso soup. It had all sorts of weird veggies and flavorings that don't belong anywhere near or around miso soup (pieces of carrots?!). As for the price.... Absolutely ridiculous considering you're paying for partially frozen fish. I recall the price for one role being somewhere around $15?... At any good sushi place in Seattle you would pay about half that for the same role. The second time I came here, my fish was frozen in the middle again!!!!!! I thought maybe I was just imagining it the first time, that the rest of the food was so mediocre that I somehow in my mind made the fish worse than it was.... Nope, I was right. Do NOT waste your time at this establishment. Chances are all the good folks of Moses Lake will tell you how great the sushi is at Tsunami's.... They don't know what they're talking about. This place has very fresh tasting sushi for being hundreds of miles from the ocean! I heard that someone makes the trip to Seattle to get fresh fish. Great little find for being out in the middle of the no where. The sushi is over priced but I understand as they have to ship it in (and being from the Seattle area where the seafood is readily available and amazing quality for cheap, I'm a little spoiled). I love that they have a wide variety of classic and unique sushi rolls. Their teriyaki ribeye is absolutely amazing and worth the price. Wow! What a great surprise. If you love sushi, you have to visit Tsunami. We had the tuna, the salmon and the hamachi sushi- all were delicious and the pieces of fish were generous.
