This is our second set of towels by Forza (now known as TURKISH TOWEL COLLECTION). The first set lasted, and I am NOT exaggerating 25 years. We first learned of these towels from the Oprah Winfrey Show, where they were featured as a "best" product. (These towels are also used in the world's most luxurious resorts. Ritz, Four Seasons, CIGA, etc.). A good towel will dry you off, but a great towel will make you feel like you're having a spa day. These towels are an investment and worth every penny. I was roaming around Fourth Street with thoughts of how nice it would be to find a lightweight towel that I could use at the yoga studio for a shower yet not take up 60% of my gym bag when I happened upon this store. I was introduced to these beautiful Turkish towels that resembled more like pretty dish towels rather than bath towels. I was a little skeptical of the absorbency at first but decided to buy some; I think they are $60 each or three for $150. You have to wash them in just plain cold water first to "treat" them. I came here to purchase a bath towel and a hand towel. I liked the "organic" label, although I could not tell what organic certification they have. The employee helping me was very much a salesman, bent on getting me to buy something quickly. His rushed attitude was peculiar, as I was only one of two people shopping there at the time. All in all, I am pleased with the quality of the towels. I was looking at bath sheets and asked a man who worked there where the products are made. I have a rule of not buying products made in sweatshops if I can avoid it. Shortly, the owner came over and so I asked him, "Do you pay your workers a living wage?" He immediately got defensive and said loudly, "That's none of your business!" I calmly explained to him that I don't buy items made in sweatshops. He then asked, "What do you do? How many millions is your business worth?" When I told him my biz wasn't worth millions, he carried on telling me how he was worth millions and has the largest linen making factory in the world. "That's great, but do you pay your workers a living wage?" By this time, I could feel steam coming out of his ears and he was shouting and carrying on so much a couple who had entered the store when I did quickly exited. I asked him, "Why are you yelling at me?" He continued his tirade and started going on about how the Chinese were buying up the real estate on 4th Street....yell! yell! scream! scream! I am reviewing several sets of towels I bought several years ago, at the old store. First of all, on arrival, the owner helped us, c'est un homme très charmant! Everything was the best for his customers. After making our choices, I was treated to a thorough tutorial on how to care for good cotton towels. Now, it is years later, and these seriously thick towels with their tied tasseled ends have no density loss, no pulled loops, no loose threads, no shrinkage, no tight side seams or loom ends, the loops are still uniform. I think with proper care, they will still be abound in the next century. They've survived a big family of five, and these have been in daily use, as mentioned they are still so thick and lovely. Super absorbent, and so good to polish the skin. I am happy to leave this review, as I could not find better towels. I wish I could leave a photo to show their condition. Lastly, it is so important to follow the instructions given for the care of these cotton towels, it makes a huge difference in their life and beauty. read more

This place is a nightmare! I received two sets of towels as a gift along with a gift receipt. I don't really need so many towels so I went in to return them with my gift receipt. The man instantly started to yell at me "why don't you want these they are very expensive"etc etc... Then he proceeds to take the towels out of the bag and told me to leave them and he would credit back the original purchaser if she brought in her credit card. Why give a gift receipt if you don't honor it there was no offer to exchange them or any other resolution, he even started to berate his employee for some unknown reason. It all made no sense then as I'm leaving he tells me how rich he is and that he owns his building (then pointing out side) and that building and that building. I was prepared to be wowed with my bath sheet I purchased yesterday. It was pricey for sure, but I got a 25.00 discount. Nice gesture, but still pricey. It does feel nice, but I will be taking it back today, unused. Instructions were to wash 2 times in cold water. After drying, it "pills" and I find loose strands as I would expect on an old worn towel. That's unacceptable after paying 3 months of dog food money for it. I may find out that's the nature of the beast. But I don't want to see a "worn raggedy" towel hanging in my bathroom, I already have several of those. July 21, this is an important update!! I took single towel (cost of 136.00) back to store the very next day. Merchant told me that this was "normal" & that I should just " use it, wash it, use it". that if it was "guaranteed". So I thought that the washing would eventually get rid of the loose threads & frayed areas. It did not. I took towel back 3.5 weeks after purchase. I left the towel in the store & am now disputing with Visa. There is also a cultural divide with the owner, so beware. $136.00 for ONE towel shouldn't be raggedy. These are exceptionally beautiful and plush towels which are hand-loomed in Turkey. With all due respect, this is not an outlet where you can score the least expensive machine-made towels from China. Here you can purchase the best Turkish towels you will find at a significant discount. Some of the TTC towels I own are at least 8 years old and they are still thick, absorbent, and lovely. I prefer to spend my money on something that will not become part of the disposable waste stream for which we in the US are becoming famous. I make clothing, so I have seen mills closing the world over and increased difficulty in being able to purchase high quality textiles. I love to go into TTC and see their most recent designs. The range of colors and patterns is stunning and I do appreciate and respect what I am seeing. When I buy TTC towels for our family or as a gift, they are definitely a splurge and I feel good about spending my hard-earned money on something so beautiful and practical. I enjoy talking to the Turkish owner, who owns the looms in Turkey, and is understandably proud of his creations. I find him charming and his staff helpful and considerate. I do browse and admire. This is a disappearing art. To me it is akin to waiting to buy a Persian rug or cashmere sweater. My suggestion is to save money and on your birthday, buy one beautiful towel. Wash it according to the directions and then wrap that towel around you and appreciate the luxurious experience. Also be grateful for the artisans who made that gorgeous towel for you. read more

The whole thing is a cultural experience. I know the owner has some bad reviews for his demeanor, but I found him very entertaining. He reminded me of the type of store owners I would meet while in Jerusalem, so it was a familiar personality to me. I knew I needed to bargain, and not take the first price given to me. With some smiles and a little conversation, we was soon offering me deals to help me make my purchase. He knows his products very well, and was eager to tell me about everything and recommend what he could. The towels are superb quality, very beautiful, and I just feel wrapped in luxury after every shower. I did as he instructed and washed the towels a few times and they definitely became more absorbent and soft over time. What is true! What is not! Yes, it was an outlet store in the Gilman Street mall and it still is. Yes, some of the merchandise was at "on sale" fantastic prices for merchandise being discontinued! And, yes some of the merchandise is still being sold at an "on sale" price, but perhaps less of it depending what time of year you visit. Let's talk about pricing! I have bought $500 - $700 hand-woven towels which I have been told have been manufactured for Gump's, Hermes, Armani and Versace labels. I have only paid the sale price of $125.00! That's more than 75% off, right? One might say still a bit pricey but not compared to the retail vallue of $500 minimally! Now, here's some information about the "do not touch display" signs. There is a museum inside this store for those appreciative of patterns (waffle, chevron), textures and towel end weaves. BUT, there are plenty of items to touch, hold or wrap you inside of-- including bathrobes! All the sizes are larger than a normal bath sheet, bath towel or hand towel. And even, the wash clothes are nicely oversized. What's my experience? I bought one complete set, bath sheet, bath towel, hand towel, wash cloth and bath matt, almost seven years ago. It was truly a "treat" for me. But, I liked visiting the store and shopping from the "very on sale" areas of the store. Within a year-and-half, I had replaced all my "other towels." All my towels now are from Selin! I was taken by a friend and now I take my friends and relatives to meet Selin, the Turkish owner, and his towels. I have been coming here for over 7 years to grab towels I usually don't splurge on anything not sale but the towels are the most amazing I have ever had. It is always such a treat to come. The owner Salin is Italian American and has collections with Armani. The patterns are all class. The kind of towel you would want to leave with a visiting guest. The have large bath towels that my husband loves using because he is a big guy and doesn't want a small towel. When I put different towels out he asks where these are. They make an incredible gift. I bought a few towels from this store a few years ago that we're of much better quality. Recently I bought a few towels from them again - they were ridiculously expensive, they DO NOT dry - even over a 12 hour period - and they lost their coloring after 2 washes. I just learned about this bleach factor in certain products but NEVER...even towels from Costco...did I have a towel that faded out with splotches like these towels. Even worse - even after washing them several times with vinegar (as suggested for absorbency) - they just don't dry unless you throw them in the dryer. My husband told me to throw them out- painful after spending a fortune. They are a COMPLETE WASTE - I feel foolish for being seduced by their appearance. Don't do it! Hard to give them any stars..... DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this store. The owner, Forza, was in Turkey when I placed an order for 3 bath towels, 3 hand towels, 3 face clothes, and 1 bathmat. They charged $45.00 to ship to AZ which I agreed to pay, but they sent me only 2 bath towels and 4 face cloths and the rest of the order. I called to request that it be corrected and Forza told me he would. He claims that he sent the missing bath towel to my PO Box in AZ even though I had told him the previous week that we would soon return to IL. Since I never received it, I called and he said he would refund $40.00 to my credit card but he only returned $30.00 and I doubt that he ever sent the towel because it would have been forwarded to me in IL by the USPS. He does business in the USA the way that may be acceptable in Turkey but IS NOT in the US. read more

i bought my towels over 10 years ago and they are still going strong. My husband and I have used them everyday, add that to washing them and quite frankly, I am not sure there is a better bargain out there. I did not buy these towels for my kids and have gone through many other towels for them costing more then if I had just bought them here in the first place. Prices are high as is the quality. It was a stretch to buy them and 10 plus years later I have no regrets. As to the 'rudeness' of the staff - I have never felt this to be so. I do not own a rolex and dress in jeans, and I have never sensed any animosity from anyone. I also do not frequent the place (I still have my towels and don't need any) so they don't know me. I stop in about once a year to see what is new color wise. Although there were a few mix ups with my online order, Sharon was fantastic to work with and made sure I was satisfied when all was said and done. This is the former "outlet" store that used to be located in the Gilman Street mall near T-Rex. Back then it had wonderful merchandise at fantastic prices. Now it's a more typical 4th Street shop with some very high quality merchandise at. prices similar to what you'd pay at Bloomingdale's or Neiman Marcus.
