Disappointed on Every Level-Not Worth the Price I wanted to like Ttobongee Chicken at 1184 Forest Ave in Pacific Grove. I strongly support small and independent restaurants, and I understand the challenges they face. But unfortunately, this experience left a lot to be desired. First, the customer service was unfriendly. From the moment I walked in, the staff acted as though my presence was an inconvenience. No greeting, no eye contact, just cold behavior, which is especially disappointing at a small business where hospitality should shine. Second, the prices are shockingly high, especially for what you receive. You might expect premium quality for the price point and the location, but that's not the case here. The quality of the food was very low. The boneless chicken was not even breast meat; they were oddly textured pieces. The flavor and preparation were underwhelming at best. On top of that, the takeout packaging was completely inadequate. The container wouldn't even close properly, which led to a messy and frustrating experience. Overall, the lack of care in service and food quality makes it incredibly difficult to justify the extremely high prices. For a restaurant in Pacific Grove charging this much, I expected far better. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this place to others. read more

A group of friends and I dined in, ambience was great and food was super good! The staffs were very helpful and kept the place lively! It was just unpleasant to witness this erratic lady getting into a loud disagreement with the staffs MULTIPLE times outside because she claimed the "No Parking" sign was the perfect place to park in. I saw not one, not two but three staffs having to go out and ask her to park her large toyota at a different spot-- hearing her yell and argue loudly with everyone about how she's from Colorado?? That the sign says "PARKING" just ruined the mood after that. Hopefully there's a way to make those NO PARKING signs more clear for the public to prevent future disputes. Not to mention, we saw her angrily typing on her way to Julia's so I'm pretty sure some lady will write some negative and false reviews about the restaurant or the staffs. read more

I really enjoyed the Korean spicy rice cakes! The texture was perfectly chewy, and the sauce was wonderfully spicy and flavorful without being overwhelming. The dish was served hot and came with a generous portion, making it great for sharing. I particularly loved the addition of fish cakes and scallions, which added depth to the flavor. The response from the owner doesn't address the fact that they are being deceptive with their customers. When I purchase something that says a whole chicken I expect it to be the entire chicken cut up and served. I find it appalling that these people believe that serving drumettes and wings is an acceptable alternative to a whole chicken. Also the other food like the japchae and bulgogi just weren't good. The K-honey sauce was so good I kept scraping the plate to get more of the sauce on my wings and the crispiness was perfect. The Yangnyum had just the right amount of spice and sweetness. With everyone cooking at the table, the heat and smoke quickly became very uncomfortable. I looked over the instructions and noticed that if you order the special meats (Galbi, Short Rib, or Beef Brisket), you can only order them every 10 minutes. I think that's pretty unreasonable considering there's also a 120-minute dining limit. On top of that, the special meats weren't that great. They lacked flavor and seasoning, and we actually had to add salt ourselves because they tasted so bland. Our server came by and turned our grill on high, but the meat still took forever to cook. If customers are limited to only 120 minutes to dine, I would expect the grills to work well enough for the meat to cook at a reasonable pace. This AYCE KBBQ is basically self-serve. All the other meats (that aren't considered "specialty" meats), banchan, rice, soups, and sauces are available at a bar station. The banchan selection was decent, but the sauce options were very limited. Unfortunately, the other meats were mediocre once again pretty much NO FLAVOR. I also noticed that when I was grabbing some of the other meat selections, they looked very lukewarm. Who knows how long they had been sitting in those metal containers or whether they were even being properly refrigerated? That definitely made me question the freshness and overall food-handling practices. Overall, the selection was okay, but the lack of flavor and questionable temperature of the meats was a major turnoff. Coming from the Bay Area, where there are so many AYCE KBBQ restaurants to choose from, this place was honestly just whatever. It didn't really stand out, especially compared to the quality and variety I'm used to. Paying $36 per person!

It wasn't messy, just a quality burger from the first bite to the last.My son got The Works, and if you saw his burger, you'd understand why he cleaned his plate. The food came out fresh, hot, and looked amazing. They really take the time to make everything look picture-worthy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, the wait wasn't long at all, and they have self-serve fountain drinks, which is always a plus. The menu is simple and easy to order from. They have salads, chicken burgers, hamburgers, and you can customize your burger however you like. Their burgers are cooked medium-well by default, but I asked for mine well-done and they got it exactly right. The customer service was cool.They weren't over the top trying to impress you, but they definitely weren't underperforming either. Everyone was chill, friendly, and got the job done. The portions are generous. I only finished half my burger and took the rest home. I reheated it later and it was still just as delicious. Overall Rating: 8.7/ 10. This place has officially earned a spot on my list of go-to burger spots. I'll definitely be back!
