Still revisiting burger and hot dog spots in High Point, and naturally this hole-in-the-wall came up. It's been around for decades, and was a one point a gas station with a grill. The ladies who work here are the reason this spot is so popular, they do it all, and the service is excellent. I have eaten a hot dog and or a cheeseburger here at least a dozen times over the years, and have never been disappointed. On this visit I grabbed one of each, knowing full well that I would most certainly not finish either, but I gave it a heck of a try. After this visit I'm convinced that this little spot has the best combination of food and service for this type of restaurant in the area. read more

First time trying Tuckers Grill in Horneytown. It was very good! I came for breakfast on a Saturday morning with a few friends. It's cafeteria style dinning in an old fashioned style restaurant. I ordered a smoked sausage sandwich with cheese and an egg. The flavor was very good but not amazing. I also ordered a fried waffle which was delicious! It was a simple waffle but it tasted like a funnel cake. I also ordered a handmade peach pie empanada. Tucker's Grill While I didn't get great photos of my time at Tucker's Grill, I just had to write about it! I haven't seen anything like it, since I was a kid in a small town in Texas! I watched people who didn't know each other, sit together and help each other. And, nobody seemed to be in a hurry (except for me)! I really appreciate Tucker's and what they've created! It's very popular! The parking lot was full of people of all ages and stages in life. The service was quick. There are long tables to sit at, but be prepared to have someone join you! I did, and surprisingly enjoyed it as an introvert. You can sit outside. The leaves were falling and it was such a perfect fall moment, but it just didn't seem to be the right place to take a bunch of photos. So, I closed my eyes and made a memory in my mind. Came home and shared it with the family! I got a good old-fashioned cheeseburger with fries, but unlike my childhood burgers, these were not greasy. The fries were good too! We were traveling through the High Point NC area and found this little country restaurant right off the interstate. Looked to be an old gas station repurposed as a restaurant. The place was packed and many customers were either eating-in or waiting for take out. By the number of customers we knew the food would be good. The staff were very welcoming and hard working. The menu was on the basic side, but you can tell that their mission was quality and customer satisfaction. We both had burgers with tots and fries and the burgers were made-to-order and especially delicious. This is a cash only restaurant so be prepared. When leaving tips the staff were very thankful and appreciative. Hope to stop here again on our future trips through the Carolinas to support this local business. read more

Located on the corner at a four-way stop, it's easy to find with a large sign out front. Parking is a bit chaotic. The lot is gravel, with spaces next to the building and a larger lot on the side. The spaces are not marked so you just fit where you can. There is a handicapped space near the front door. The gravel lot is in good shape, so walking is fairly easy. There are picnic tables out front on a concrete pad. Walking in, the ordering counter is to the right. Drinks are self-serve at the rear of the dining area. The interior seating area is also picnic tables. All seating is community-style so expect to share your table with others unless you opt for the few small 2-person tables next to the walls around the room. Although we were there about 1:00, it was still pretty busy. The wait staff was very friendly and chatted a bit as we were ordering. You can select your toppings for your burgers so it truly is made to order. We grabbed one end of a picnic table and waited about 15 minutes for our order. They brought our food out for us with each item individually wrapped. The burgers were outstanding. The meat is moist without being too greasy and the flavor is wonderful. I tried the double and had a hard time finishing because the patties are much thicker than I expected for the price. The fries and onion rings were cooked to perfection and piping hot. Special note: the restaurant is cash only. They do have an ATM inside but I had enough cash on hand, especially with their reasonable prices. Also, you pay after you get your food. If you are eating there, you don't pay until you leave. One thing I noticed is all patrons were much friendlier than typical at restaurants. Maybe it's the community seating which sort of induces a more friendly atmosphere. Maybe it's the friendly nature of the staff pervading the entire restaurant. Maybe it's just the vibe from the location in Horneytown. Whatever the reason, Tucker's Grill is a must stop location for an excellent burger and sides as well as a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy it. read more

Always good food. They are only open 630 to 230 Tuesday through Saturday. I'm typically either working those hours or forget their open. Always worth stopping in here. The people are friendly, the place is clean with a 99.5 rating and the foods always good. Cook by the same people that have been working here forever. This is a place to stop. read more

Due to a power outage we were looking for a good home cook like meal for breakfast. We came across this place doing a U-turn. What a wonderful U-turn. Seen the sign that's says they're serving breakfast and what a delicious breakfast it was. We placed our order over the phone with no problem. Seen their menu online and was pleased with the prices. A good selection on breakfast and they also serve lunch. We both got the same order. 2 eggs with cheese, grits, hash browns, smoked sausage and toast. The food was very well seasoned and so good. Grits buttery, eggs with cheese was just right, the best smoke sausage, crispy hash browns and the toast was buttered on both sides lightly. Definitely tastes like a home cooked breakfast. There is seating inside or you can order to go. Make sure if you visit this restaurant you bring cash only but there's an atm inside. We both highly recommend this location. read more

Tucker's Grill is my favorite burger joint, and I am lucky to have it just minutes from my house. The ladies at the grill have been flipping burgers for decades, and they clearly know what they are doing. Five Guys used to be my favorite, but Tucker's wins by a mile now. The hot stuff is hot, the cold stuff is cold, and it all comes together in the perfect burger bite. They serve up crinkle fries, tater tots, and onion rings. But, for me, it's all about the burger. And the Cheerwine. The building itself is an old gas station/convenience store turned hole-in-the-wall restaurant, and it's absolutely fabulous. There are a few tables outside, and lots more seating inside, at non-fancy, long plastic picnic tables. Don't be shy to scoot in next to someone you might not know if they're busy (which they usually are). You order at the counter, and all of the staff are super friendly. Then get your drink, take a seat, and wait for your name to be called. Give a wave, and they will bring the food to you. And then...enjoy the best burger in Horneytown (and the best burger anywhere around!)! read more

I have passed this place for years and finally stopped in on Saturday. We were instantly greeted by a smiling employee. This is a quintessential Mom and Pops style establishment, which I love. The service was great and the food was made to order. I had corn dogs and some fat crinkle cut fries. The inside has a couple of high top tables and the rest of the tables are picnic style. It's a super laid back atmosphere and the food was delicious. I'll definitely be stopping in more often when I need a quick bite. read more

We enjoyed the sausage egg and cheese sandwich. All breakfast sandwiches are served on bun or toast - there are no biscuits. The bun was buttery and great! Spicy sausage was good too! We also tried the deep fried waffle. It was tasty but also on the smaller side - think like the size of an eggo waffle. You'll find lots of locals who stop in for breakfast. Tucker's motto is "Best Burgers in Horneytown!" While I'm pretty sure they're the only burgers in Horneytown, they easily hold up against any other burgers in the Triad area. Tucker's is located in a very unassuming building at the corner of North Main Street and Horneytown road in High Point. That's right: High Point address. Sure, there's bars on the window and the building itself could easily play a role in a Rob Zombie movie, but don't let that scare you. Parking is kind of a mess during peak times. Lots of guys in trucks that don't quite grasp the concept of a parking lot just doing whatever they want. Looks more like a bait shop parking lot but nope, it's a restaurant! With the exception of the grumpy guy that basically just holds down the cash register (owner?) the ladies that work there are super sweet and helpful. I always order a cheeseburger, fries, and unsweetened tea. I did order the double cheeseburger once and it is definitely for someone with a huge appetite, and will hurt you if that's not you. My burger today, like always, was cooked to a perfect medium without me even specifying temperature. I like that. I order tomato, onion, and pickles, and the produce today was as fresh as always. Fries were nice and crisp. Tucker's is cash only. Fortunately, there is an ATM on site. How brilliant is that? Cash only AND the ATM fees! Unfortunately, the ATM has been known to not work, in which case there is also an ATM across the street in the convenience store. Tucker's is in an old gas station from back in the day. Located on old 311 AKA High Point Road AKA north Main Street on the corner of highway 66. This place is old school all the way. Cash only. ATM on site which is kind of silly to me. You will pay $5 worth of fees to use it. Which hardly makes sense. Inside it's super basic tables and chairs in an open space. You order and they make your food. You pay after you eat. Recently this place has changed ownership. The menu is mostly sandwiches and a few other options. They also have breakfast. The service was friendly and fast enough. We even got help with the menu and an explanation of the famous MOTS burger. A 10 ounce burger made to order and named after the new owners. Sounded good to me so that's what I got. I could see over the counter and the ladies running the grill line pulled fresh burger and indeed cooked it to order. They had their system down and were getting it done. The burger was very good. It was huge so if you order this be ready. It's not for the faint of heart. The toppings were of good proportion and the whole package was delicious. I ordered fries cooked crispy and they came out as ordered. I would certainly recommend the MOTS burger. The hot dogs didn't do a thing for me. Maybe you will like them. They had these awesome little pies at the checkout and I had to try them as well. Very good and reminded me of a time gone by. My problems with this place are mainly 3 things. 1 the payment method. Get out of the dark ages and take cards. 2 the days open. Closed on Monday or any other time they feel like it. Why close Monday? I get hungry on Mondays too. 3 the hours. Close at 2:30. No good. My pet peeves aside I enjoyed the MOTS burger and would definitely get it again. read more

Just about every state in this great union has a few towns whose names amuse the puerile person in all of us. Or maybe it's just me. But North Carolina has some really good ones: Horneytown Climax And.... Erect...the most flagrant one of all. Anyway, Horneytown is home to Tucker's Grill, which will make you a good lunch. It also let's you tell people you went to Horneytown. If you judge this book by its cover, you would assume one star for Tucker's. See photo. Indeed, many people probably drive off without stopping after muttering "no way, man". Inside, though, it is fairly tidy, popular with locals, and a good place to take in some country culture. I ordered my usual: cheeseburger, hotdog, and fries. The hot dog was small but tasty. The chili had a unique taste but was good, and the slaw tasted fine and was not dry or runny. The cheeseburger was quite good. My only complaint (and it is part of why this is 3 stars and not 4) is that they make the burgers a little ahead of time and then keep them warm in a steamer device on the grill. Nevertheless, the burger was both hot and juicy. Crinkle fries were perfect--not greasy, not dry, not freezer burnt...just perfect. Sorry for the hiatus everyone, I have just been busy lately! I went here for lunch this past weekend as I have heard great things about it! It was a great experience as well! Tucker's is located past HWY 66 going into Horneytown, NC. It's a small, hole in the wall gas station that acts as a grill inside. The place was packed when I went there on a Saturday afternoon. The fact that they open 6:30am to 2:30pm makes it even more of a factor why they are so packed! Inside you could see everyone fellowshipping together, and the employees busting their butts over the counter by the grill. I had no idea what to order as everything looked good. I man in there even told me "it don't matter what you order son, everything is good hear!" As that should have told me all I needed to know. They have burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and the typical sides: onion rings, fries and tots. I went with a double bacon pimento cheeseburger with fries and a canned drink. I chose to eat it there, and they brought it out to me when it was ready. The birder was hot and juicy and full of flavor! I got it all the way so it had mustard, chili, slaw, the works! It didn't last long trust me! The fires were hot and crispy as well! I should have gotten the fountain drink as it was bigger and only $1.00 more, but you live and you learn right? You pay after you eat which you don't see much of these days. I went to the counter and decided to get two Cow tales before I left. They have brownies, snack cakes, and other simple desserts for you if you decide you have room for one. My total came to about $10.00 which wasn't that bad. Ok, so I have driven past this place more times than I can count and I swore that this sketchy looking dive had gone out of business. My boyfriend wanted to treat me to breakfast this weekend, and I found myself pulling into the Tucker's parking lot. I was nervous, and walking into the door didn't help much. I felt like I was being stared at the same way I would be if I walked into a a small deep southern Baptist church as a visitor! This place isn't much to look at. It looks like a gas station because one day many years ago, I think it was! Inside you will find picnic tables and rolls of paper towels on those tables. The staff isn't there for your entertainment and being that I knew none of them personally, they weren't overly friendly. HOWEVER... these people can cook! The food is clearly what you go here for! I ordered the Eggs & Country Ham platter. 2 Eggs cooked Over Medium, Hashbrowns, and Wheat Toast. My boyfriend ordered the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese with Mayo and Tomato. We made our drinks, and found a seat. The food arrived pretty quick and I quickly became a fan of Tucker's. This food made me flash back to sitting in my Great Grandmas kitchen! I ate every single solitary bite and so did my guy! I cannot wait to go back. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because the stale smell inside was a bit off putting. For there to be so much good cooking going on inside, it didn't smell like breakfast, or even a grill! It just smelt stale and old. It was very strange and hard to explain. Driving by this place I was hoping for a delicious BLT. It's June 1 and good tomatoes, the essential ingredient in a BLT, should be available. I was disappointed to see your standard November, mealy, tomato slice on my sandwich. One lame slice of tomato. It couldn't do battle with the generous helping of L and B. Bacon was awesome. Lettuce was shredded and yellow. I was hoping for something similar to Merrit's in Chapel Hill. It wasn't. Also had the egg and cheese, it sucked.
