Let it be known this is the place to go to get the best fried chicken in Asheboro. On the menu, it's a 1/2 Fried Chicken with 2 sides and choice of a bread. All of that for $9.99! You can't beat that price. I ordered the Fried Chicken with Creamed Potatoes with gravy, Cabbage and hot rolls. The plate came out hot and steamy. The creamed potatoes were served with some of the daily special's gravy on it. It wasn't chicken gravy but it was a good homemade gravy. Were the potatoes real or boxed or a mix of both? I couldn't tell. If they were boxed, they fixed them up to taste real. If they were real, they sure did a great job at creaming them. It's on debate. The Cabbage was cooked perfect, seasoned well. The hot rolls were not homemade but they were fresh, light and fluffy and served warm. The star of the plate was definitely the chicken. Cooked to order, it came out super hot. It was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside, meat was tender and juicy on the inside. I peeled off some of the skin and juice was dripping all over the plate. It's hard to find good fried chicken and I've been trying several of the local places but so far, this place is #1. Also, the sweet tea is GREAT! The service was super friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and there are lots of tables and booths, but get there early or after lunch because they were full when I arrived at around 1:30pm. So our family moved to the area back in October and I couldn't be happier about this little diner not far from us. P&J's Diner is a family staple for us that serves up some delicious southern fare and diner food. It has a wide variety of things on the menu ranging from bbq chicken, meatloaf, seafood platters, to broccoli chicken over rice, burgers, and quesadillas. Needless to say, there is something for everyone. My two daughters love it, and that says a lot! My youngest will gobble up an entire side of their green beans and ask for more. They have a daily special or 2, standard menu items like: Chicken Livers, Country Style Steak, Salmon Patties, Country Ham, Grilled Chicken, and Smothered Chicken - runs $5. 29 to $6.99 with 2 veggies and bread. Veggies are the usual suspects. Also usual sandwiches, fried seafood plates ($8 or $9), Spaghetti, and a bowl of Pintos with onions & hushpuppies for $3.49 - really nice. Plates are generally good - Like the Chicken Livers & CS Steak, especially. Fried seafood is a little inconsistent, but when it is good, it is good. Chili dog is not really good - thin chili with a somewhat strange taste, and the onions can be very strong (costs $1,69). Cheeseburger is excellent, great flavor, and priced righat $2.79. Nothing fancy here, food or decor, but solid place with good, friendly service, very reasonably priced. Give it a shot. read more

Food isn't bad, quick, good hospitality, a real home town favorite for all the elderly, yes they came for breakfast and will be back for supper because they know their friends will be there two. Kind of like a rest home cafeteria because the foods so bland but it's alright' AND there's more options. I grew tired of eating PJs diner as a kid but we still went every single day of summer because it's cheap and too hot to turn the stove on, according to my mama. Food was good and good value, but really disappointed that the cook staff were not wearing beard covers. There were several cooking that should have been. If they would change that I would feel more comfortable eating there. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. All tables were full and everyone seemed to be serviced quickly. Friend said her burger was great. They use only fresh, hand pattied meat, which was evident from the taste. Burgers were thick and toppings plentiful. Crushed ice in the drinks. Bathrooms were clean. We were there at lunch time so it was busy. You seat yourself and pay at the counter. Cheapest lunch I've had in awhile. I can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews. Burgers are great, fries are crisp and so is the grilled cheese. Veggies are questionable though. They're FAST and the food is always piping hot. They also converted my daughter to a lover of hush puppies. For the type of food they serve and the type of establishment they are, you're really getting your bang for your buck. I ordered from here off of DoorDash it was my first time ever ordering from p&j's diner and boy was it worth it!! The burger was amazing it had such a great flavor! My little sister got the tenders w/fries and she ate it all I tried them a bit and they were great! My family and I showed up at 7:58 for dinner, they were closed , (suppose to close at 8:30) sign was off so we called , rude lady who answered the phone lied and said they close at 8 , when my wife said did you change your hours ? I have eaten at this restaurant for many years. Everything I have ever gotten there was absolutely delicious! Whether it is something as simple as an egg salad sandwich (homemade egg salad which is heavenly) to seafood, country style steak or one of their many chicken items it is always homemade and wonderful!
