I have been suffering from acne for almost 15 years. As time has gone on, it has only gotten worse and worse. I've seen so many dermatologists I can't even remember them all. I've been prescribed everything from topicals to harsh antibiotics. I went to Brenda about six months ago because I was having breakout after breakout. I decided to just get a consultation since the source of my acne was a mystery and I thought she might have advice or treatment options that would help. We spent about an hour chatting with and she kept telling me that my acne was very mild and that a treatment plan was overkill. It was not what I wanted to hear because I wanted a quick fix! Who doesn't when they are having a terrible breakout? She walked through a list of chemicals in face products that could be the source of my breakouts. Brenda spent a long time, going through every single item on the list. At the end, I was confused and not sure if I had gotten my money's worth out of this consultation. However, I took a closer look at the list at home and compared them against some of my products and basically threw away anything that was on the breakout list. I started using some different over the counter products and within a couple weeks the acne was totally gone! However, I also bought a sunscreen from the line of products she sells. It was made with zinc so it was really, really expensive but for some reason, it burns like a fire on my face. It is so bad I cannot use it at all. I've had acne since I was a teenager, and at nearly 35, I was well beyond over it. I had tried every over the counter product out there, oral contraceptives, diet, all with no success. If you're reading this, you've probably had the same experience. I booked a consultation and treatment in October, but I wasn't sure what to expect. I met Brenda, and she gave me an hour-long lesson on acne, and I learned so much. I was somewhat skeptical, as some of the information was completely new to me, but much of what she explained made total sense. The hardest pill I had to swallow was when she issued me a list of acne aggravating chemicals commonly found in cosmetic and skin care products. That list was LONG, and I ended up throwing out a lot of my favorite products when I got home. But I decided to put my faith in her system and agreed to continue treatment with her. The investment wasn't cheap. Day 1, I purchased nearly $300 worth of cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and treatment. Brenda gave me explicit instructions for using the products and told me to contact her if I experienced any issues. The first week, my skin felt so dry, and I wanted to return to my old moisturizer, but my skin eventually adapted. At my second treatment, Brenda updated my skin care routine (using the some of the treatment products more frequently). Again, I felt more dryness, but after a month of following the routine, my skin began to normalize, and I saw a huge difference in my skin. Probably 70% of my cystic flare ups were gone. The treatment schedule is bi-weekly, which consists of a chemical treatment and extractions. Not going to sugar coat this...extractions HURT! Don't plan on going out the evening after a treatment, because you'll be a bit puffy an scabbed. But the results are worth it. After four months of following her skin care routine and bi-weekly treatments, I'm happy to report that my skin is 95% clear. Again, the investment isn't small if you add up all the treatments with products, and I'm sure the expense can be a sticking point for many folks. However, the products, themselves, are comparable to any other skincare system out there, and they lasted roughly four months. And considering all the money I've wasted on a variety of drugstore to high-end products through the years, I am so relieved to have found a system that is reasonably priced and WORKS. Plus, Brenda won't insist you continue to come in for bi-weekly treatment once you've reached your goal. Instead, she recommends the occasional drop-in. To me, that speaks to her integrity and faith in her education and products. Also, it sure takes the guess work and temptation out of skin care and makeup shopping! I've found very few products I can use at Sephora. (Bare Minerals and BECCA are the only worthwhile brands I've found, and not all their products are acne safe. Read the labels!) I am SO grateful I found the Tucson Acne Clinic and put my faith in Brenda. My journey: I have had acne since the age of 14 yrs old. I originally took the route of going to the dermatologist when my acne wasn't serve and the Dr. placed me on a topical medication. As my acne began to process as I hit puberty, I was then place on oral medications. I was taking doxycycline three times a day and birth control. But all those did was make my skin extremely dry and aggravated. I was stuck managing my acne for 4 years until I came across the Tucson Acne Clinic. It has been a year now and I am completely acne free. It took me only two weeks before I saw a complete change in my skin. My inflammation had significantly decreased, my skin texture softened, and overall my acne was calming. During your facial she will access your skin and change/improve your regimen for the next two weeks. My products to begin were $150. I used the same products throughout my whole treatment. Brenda truly cares about your skin and even though this may seem pricey she really only sold me products that I needed and used. I used every single product down to the last drop in the bottles. She didn't once have me flip flop through products, making me buy products I didn't need. Products last me around 3-4 months depending how much I use. Even when I go into buy products I sometimes spend only $75-$100 because the fluid/size amount on the products are all different. I only needed facials for three months because I was then acne free. She begins starting off your regime with slight use of the products and grows your tolerance to the products. The process was never harsh or painful. I was never dry, red, itchy, to inflamed because of the products. The process is not easy and you have to be patient but it will work. Brenda is also very education about your skin. She explains exactly why she is doing what she's doing and why you're doing wha your doing. She doesn't tell you to just slap some product on you face. She gives you detailed instructions which I found were very important to strictly follow. She knows that she's taking about. A little side note: Approximately 8 months in I ran out of product and thought buying face wash from the pharmacy store was going to be a good idea because $8 face wash seemed like a steal deal since I had no acne. I was so completely wrong. My face broke out. I now withstand behind the products she recommended and I used 200% and will never ever make this mistake again. Just giving an update since my last review. I still continue to be acne free and just follow Brenda's tips and use her products that are suited for my skin. Her products are not expensive when compared to everything that is out there. I have strayed and used makeup or face lotion and I immediately breakout. I tried a different makeup and got 5 pimples the next day and continued for the next week until everything cleared out. I stick to my routine and don't have any problems. I go to the gym now and swim and don't worry about makeup. I've never gone anywhere for years and years without covering up. It's great to feel comfortable in my own skin. Brenda is a very knowledgeable person and has all the facts. HOWEVER, she is not very nice and is rude. I called ten minutes prior to my appointment and said I was running late and she responded aggravated and said I would have to reschedule because she had booked me for a two hour slot and wouldn't have the necessary time. When I made the appointment though it only booked me for one. So I told her I'd just go in for the consult and I was late as I had let her know and she said that she had booked someone right after me so she only had half an hour but she had literally just told me I was booked for two. So that didn't add up. Also she was making a deal about owing me $20 because I didn't do the treatment and she broke it down for me and honestly I'm not going back. Yes, I told her to keep the twenty and add it to my credit in case I came back but she was rude and I don't want someone with that attitude coming at my face with extraction tools. I've been dealing with acne for 7 years, but its under control now thanks to Brenda. In the past years I have tried many products for acne, but none of them worked. I decided to see a dermatologist (not Brenda) who subscribed minocycline. I took this antibiotic for 2 years, but then it stopped working even though I took it twice a day like my dermatologist recommended. My acne was back even when I was on minocycline. After 3 months of hard work with Brenda I am happy to say my acne is about 90% healed. I have a few final stretches of dark spots and zits healing, but my acne is (for the first time) manageable. Brenda is very knowledgeable about skincare and she explains everything in detail. I took my son for a couple of months and we purchased the products and he followed the diet, but he lost interest when he wasn't seeing great results. The first visit we talked about the program and purchased product (almost $200). The follow up visits are $80 for about 10 minutes of what he called "torture". She has to do extraction with no steam or massage so that the acne doesn't get aggravated and I understand that, however it's a lot of money for the amount of time spent. After a couple of months with not great results, he went off the diet and didn't want to go back because it was too painful. I would definitely recommend this business, but it is expensive and probably difficult for teenagers to stick to the strict regimen required.
