I am used to checking out their amazing selection in the Tucson Mall, so to find them here at the Park Mall also was refreshing. As usual, they have a generous selection of board games and board game accessories. All of the gaming tables were taken up, so if you have plans to card/board gameing with your friends you may want to reserve a table or plan ahead. Well laid out setup and clean. Dont brother trying to shop here. The staff *like Dawn and the bald Manager* care more about getting coffee orders for themselves then helping customers. Literally stood there for several minutes waiting and trying to get her attention from her phone. And then when we finally did she couldn't be bothered to look up and as we were asking for help she spoke over us to the bald boss for her order we probably could have walked out with what we did have- but opted to leave it on the counter. What is unfortanate ... this is the general trend we have experienced. So I guess we just don't need to come back. read more

This place is dysfunctional as it gets. When you want to come here for D&D, you are thrust into an ongoing power play, where you are a pawn, not a person. If you like playing in a place where rules are thrust upon you, and you have no say about said rules. A place where when you are late you get punished by being denied to play D&D. A place where the owners rule is law, and any dissent is treated with threats and public humiliation. A place where a DM has the power to banish you from the store you get upset with them. ( And the DM isn't even a store employee) A.place where you are not respected, and your character that you have worked so hard on to create gets killed within the first 5 minutes, because the DM loves to kill players and doesn't care about you. A place where, even after you have paid, you can get booted from a table and you don't get a refund. I have been there, and I have to say, this place isn't worth your clientele, go to any of the other places, and you will have more fun, where you can play characters that you like, and not beholden to any rules, just because the owner has a fetish with Greyhawk. read more

My boyfriend and I are a bit new to the board game scene, and we've visited Tucson Games and Gadgets quite a few times since beginning this new hobby of ours. Everyone who works at the shop is super friendly and knowledgeable. You can buy a drink or snack and test out one of the many board games they have open and available to play. I would love to give this place all of my business when it comes to this sort of thing, but the prices don't make that easy. For example, the game 'Splendor' at Games and Gadets is $44, at Barnes and Noble is $40 and at Target the game is $30. I really want to support local business by purchasing here instead of a big box retailer but I can't justify the price difference on some of the games. I think it would be great if the shop would price match other businesses and maybe even "shipped and sold by Amazon" retailers. On Thursday (04/13/17) we bought Eldritch Horror and when we took the wrap off of it we realized one corner was a bit dented. Not a really big deal, but when we opened it we realized that the corner inside the box was torn on the side that was dented. We have had to line the box with cardboard cut outs so that the box doesn't rip further. It was a total disappointment for a $65 game purchase. read more

The whole experience was just off-putting. Walked to the mall today to pick up some Citadel paints. Got there and realized they were sold out of the majority of what I was looking for. Oh well, no biggie. So I asked the guy working if he could look up a few items for me, in which he immediately interrupted and said "if it's Warhammer and it's not there, we don't have it!" very aggressively. I replied "easy man, I called yesterday and asked". He said, "oh you mean paints?!, it was probability the other store, I'll go call". I said, "I don't have a car man, I can't go to the other mall", but he already left before I could finish. He was cutting me off thinking I was talking about models, not paints. Meaning he wasn't even listening and didn't know what I was asking him for. Maybe let the customer finish a sentence before cutting them off constantly. He also refused to look up the 5 paints I was looking for, and the way he talked made me think he doesn't like Warhammer painters shopping there. Instead of saying "if it's Warhammer and it's not there, we don't have it!", say something somewhat professional like, "hey if there is anything you need and we don't have, we can order that for you", like all store that sell Warhammer are supposed to do. I was ready to spend a few hundred dollars today in cash, but this guy made sure to make me feel like I was not welcome. The paints they did have, I put back not wanting to spend money here. I personally think he was mad at me because I interrupted him hitting on the other female employee who was very nice, I felt bad for her. She was ringing people up while he kept hitting on her in a busy store, not doing his job helping customers. It was obvious she was being nice, but was uncomfortable. The whole thing was creepy and off putting. Now I'm new to the area, and spend a lot of citadel paints. I was really looking forward to getting to know the people at the local game store, and was even going to come to paint night this Thursday. What a huge letdown. read more

This game shop is the cleanest and nicest looking shop I have found in Tucson(I've been to 3 others in town). Over the past few months it has become a regular haunt of mine due to the friendliness of the owner and great atmosphere. The Gadget part of the name denotes the fact that TGG sells a selection of "Geek" "Nerd" or whatever you want to call them products. From Star Wars coffee mugs to Tardis soap dispensers, toy catapult models, and Firefly posters there's a fun spread of geek gear available. The store has two good size tables up front for general gaming, a private room, two narrow tables for card gaming and four tables in a back room for miniatures gaming. The shop has separate male and female bathrooms that I have always found well kept. Mark, the owner, even tries to keep the store smelling nice, something I found lacking at another location. The two tables up front and in the private room are actual wood, not the plastic catering tables you find at most shops. Mark carries just about any Fantasy Flight product you could want and will order it for you if it's not in the store. TGG has several mini's games available with the exception of Games Workshop products. One whole wall of the shop and a couple racks are devoted to board games, if you want it they probably have it. If you're looking for a place to hang out and game Mark sells snacks (soda, candy bars, chips, etc) and doesn't pester you while you play. I could gush on and on about this place, but I'd recommend just heading down there and taking a look, you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

We dropped by while in town for the book festival. Wow, what a nice shop! Well-stocked with awesome staff. It was great to see so many folks playing games at the tables. We bought a couple things and mourned the fact that we were just visiting. If we were locals, we'd be regulars here for sure. read more

As someone who has only recently gotten into the world of board games, I was really grateful to find a place like Tucson Games and Gadgets. The staff is very friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. They're quick to offer suggestions and are even willing to teach the rules. The atmosphere is very casual and congenial. I never felt like I was being looked down on for my lack of knowledge by either the staff or the players. They, far and away, have the best sales in town. Sales don't just apply to overstocked or less desirable items. I was also pleasantly surprised when we went on a Wednesday night and I was offered a free soda and 5% off our purchase for "Ladies Night." That struck me as a cool and inclusive promotion. Tucson Games and Gadgets makes it easy to support a local game store rather than just purchasing games online. I can't thank them enough for helping us get into the hobby. read more

Got our first game from Tucson Games and Gadgets and we are hooked!!! Every game we picked up to admire, the owner was fast to explain what that specific one was about. We asked for recommendations and he had a plethora of exactly what we were looking for. We got Mice and Mystics and have been playing it all night! We're already talking about the next time we can visit the shop for another great game! And we are planning a day to go experience the back room of free games with our son! The staff knows board games and RPGs, they have a bunch of demo games and will special order anything that's not in stock. This was my first time going to Tucson Games and Gadgets. I decide to go because they have a weekly Meetup in the Free Events Meetup and to check out what games they had on sale because the store I usually frequent hasn't had anything that's caught my eye lately. When I walked in I was immediately and rudely told I HAD to spend 3 dollars on snacks. Then during one game the lady Arlene told us we needed to move tables soon and we needed to buy stuff. Then when the game was over and we were moving tables she again very rudely and forcefully told us to buy stuff. I combined what I got with a friends because he offered to pay. Then again for the 4th time as we were leaving the store she stopped me and was like you haven't spent your 3 dollars. I told her my friend paid for me and she said he only paid 4.25. Very funny she had it memorized. Then my friend again offered to pay and I said I didn't want any junk food and he also didn't want anymore junk food so he told her he'd just give her the money. Then she said okay 2 dollars. We were like ummmm here we are just given you the money and not buying anything with it and you are trying to get 25 cents more out of us! This was the first time my friend had ever been to a gaming store or played true table top games. What an off putting experience! I have been to all the other gaming stores in Tucson and never been treated like this. It is an unspoken rule that you do buy at least something if you are going to play games there or even I've had store owners ask kindly once to please help support by buying games or food. This made it feel like we were unwelcome criminals. read more

Don't plan on going to store events here they don't seem to be at all organized. This place makes Show Time Cards events look like a well oiled machine. Also don't plan on the event actually following the format to which they implied it was going to occur or the prize support ( they don't play at ANY REL for MTG). Sure they have a good selection of games but so does Isle of games and Amazing Discoveries (both of which are better places). This place is set up like your uptight friends moms basement. Everything is fancy and over the top decorated all while it smells like glade plug ins and ozone to hide the smell of her sons stinky friends, probably because thats what they use. I am not a table top gamer, I play miniature war-games and MTG this place has made me so frustrated with just about every aspect of dealing with them that they can get in the boat with Fredo. If they have what you want fine what ever, but I will avoid them to avoid the hair pulling frustration of disorganized unprofessional events and un-spectacular selection of products in my chosen areas of gaming. If you don't understand some of the initialisms I used then don't worry, my review isn't really for you. You will probably say to yourself I don't care about any of that and this shop might be fine for you but if you are a competitive gamer who likes places that have structure than its best to avoid this place. They do have cheap dice. IF I could I would give them a 1.5 as they are not the worst place I have ever dealt with but they are in the bottom 20%. As much as I do feel support your LGS I will shop online before coming here, assuming no one else in town has what I am after. read more

Having visited the Broadway location a few times I was ecstatic to discover that it is now in the Tucson Mall. I wandered in the day before the grand opening and was promptly greeted and even shown around the entire store. The staff was beyond friendly and a pleasure to talk to. The following day I returned to purchase a gift and once more it was a wonderful experience. It was the grand opening and slightly busy, but every question I had was answered quickly and I even won a game on their spin wheel. Overall their product variety is great and if they don't have something they'll find a way to get it. I have no doubt I'll be back to both locations read more

I had a great time at Tucson games and gadgets for a get together with some friends. Mark was very friendly and introduced us to games that are totally new and unique to what we're used to. This is one of my favorite gaming stores in Tucson. The staff is warm welcoming and helpful. They have a feature where you can rent games and take them home to try it out. This is a huge plus when most board games are $30+. Would recommend this store to anyone. read more

I really wanted to like Tucson Games & Gadgets (TG&G) more. Their store is the most beautiful table-top game store in Tucson, with the best tables and space to game in, even among great stores like Isle of Games and Heroes & Villains... yet they're missing the key element of those stores: knowledgeable and courteous staff. Isle of Games has Drew managing the store, a practical encyclopedia of all things game-related. Heroes & Villains seems to hire college-age employees who are gamers themselves, and make up for what they don't know with great customer service. But TG&G has people behind the desk who literally know nothing about board games... yet they're in the business of selling board games. I just don't get it. One of their employees, Arlene, not only seems to know nothing about board games, but also seems to know nothing about customer service, and she's often the only one in the store! The owner, Mark, is outstanding. If he was the one running the day-to-day operations of the store, TG&G might give Isle of Games a run for their money... but the last 10 times I've been in their store, he's not there. His wife seems very nice when she runs the counter, but, again, not a gamer... even less-so than Arlene. If you know what you need when you go in, then it's a non-issue, but if you have a question, need advice, or a recommendation, you'd be better served at Isle of Games or one of the other 8 game stores in Tucson. Now, with that being said, TG&G attracts some of the best gamers and designs in Tucson to play, demo, and playtest at their store. For that reason, TG&G might be the best place to find a pick-up game. And like I mentioned earlier, they have the best game space to play in, too. Their store is clean and well-maintained. Their selection is beaten only by Isle of Games and Heroes & Villains, but they carry all the good stuff. Mark knows what he's ordering, and does a good job keeping the games you want in. Besides Amazing Discoveries, TG&G might have the best selection of card sleeves, especially the Fantasy Flight sleeves that are often hard to find. Lastly, TG&G has an auction every few months that is a lot of fun, and a great way to snag some out-of-print games that are expensive and hard to find online. In summary, I think TG&G is a good store, second only to Isle of Games, but it has the potential to be a great store if they would make some changes to customer service. read more

I was really impressed by both the amount of brand new games and diversity of games that they carried. Their collection of free to demo games was nice. I purchased two copies of "Exploding Kittens" one for me and one as a gift for my Granddaughter. She already had a copy but when I tried to return the cheaper one, I was told "the owner was the only one that could do a return", and he was away till that afternoon. I have bought several games from them (over $200.00 worth) as I wanted to support local businesses, Amazon had everything I bought cheaper. Ever since they have opened their Mall store, customer service has deteriorated. Buy your games elsewhere because if there is a problem, I doubt they will honor your complaint. read more

we dont live in tucson, but stopped in after my FLGS owner in phoenix gave TG&G a shout-out,,,wonderful place,,,the owner was very nice and approachable and eager to explain/answer any questions,,,he then introduced who we later found referred herself as the 'store manager',, (forgot her name,,) to my somewhat-gamer girlfriend,,and the experience only escalated,,,she was a wonderful-fantastic ambassador not only for the store but for gaming overall, very knowledgeable and even more eager to answer/explain all questions,,she told us how she had only gotten into gaming last fall and fell for the hobby almost immediately, mostly due to the owner and other patrons welcoming her to their world,,,,she herself was worth the visit, and made my girlfriend feel very welcomed, giving her a new understanding and interest in the hobby i love,,,,great visit and look forward to maybe getting in a game next time we in tucson,,,, read more
