I like this store but I really want to love it. It is a cool concept and the prices on their used books are fair. I made the mistake of buying a jigsaw puzzle here not realizing they shrink wrap used puzzles that people trade in. So I built the whole puzzle only to learn it was missing pieces. A big disappointment. But again for used books it is a good resource to have. read more

I haven't been to a bookman in years, so I decided to try this one in while I'm in Tucson. It was larger than I imagined. It was quite crowded. If you're looking for all used books, games, equipment. This would be the place to browse. I came on a weekend so maybe that was why I was busy. The service was nice as I had tried to see what I could get for some gaming items. This place is absolutely amazing and the various collectibles, LP's, local art, paperbacks, hardbacks, electronics and trade in counter is a massive enterprise IMO, a better place to go than the mall! The entertainment draw here is huge, the doors are constantly flexing with arrivals and honestly, even though I live about 35 minutes away, whenever my daughters are back in town, we ALWAYS drive up to this location like a heard of (name your animal LOL...) whatever, and walk about endlessly for at least an hour. You're gonna find SOMETHING interesting here in the store! While you may not get entirely what you think a value is on something should you be considering a trade-in, remember, they have to make a profit too so when you consider the work of a garage sale, or nothing from dropping something off at a Goodwill, at LEAST you can get instant credit or cash for whatever it is! I still very much appreciate that a local business does that! The store is huge, various nostalgic items going all the way back to a 1970's Colleco-Vision game unit, to every current console game you can imagine and even pricey LP turntables if you're into that. What makes these Bookman's special is the plethora of various items, obviously the majority being books, but the countless little things, everywhere, LITERALLY everywhere so looking around, you'll be surprised at what's offered here. I will note, the 'Trade In Counter' location, really had an unappealing presence to it, with piles of items collected so I digress, it could look better, but the customer service there was, as always, excellent and helpful walking my wife and I directly to the locations for the books we were looking for. The staff works hard here, the aisles are huge, and the only thing missing is some general seating and they would likely benefit if they had a tea or coffee cafe because what goes great with this atmosphere but a drink to share among friends??!! I went to this Bookmans for the first time today. I went to the one on Speedway the other day and wasn't as impressed by this location. They had a decent book and game selection but it was far less expansive. I didn't end up finding anything for myself today which was okay since I fly home tomorrow. The store is organized and clean. The bathroom is also clean, it's coded (the code was 6767 today) and easy to find. The parking lot is huge and easy to find a spot in. It's also easy to get into and out of. This Bookmans was fine, but the one on Speedway is truly where it's at. read more

And I see the authors of my books, not the same title, on their shelves so I think it depends solely on who is checking in the books you bring. This was my first time to this particular location and I really enjoyed it! The store is huge and they have so many books to choose from. I really liked that they had a separate room for the children's books and the organization was just great. I found so many books for myself but also my kids. The staff was very friendly when I would ask them about different authors and they were able to point me in the right section. This is great location for this Bookman's near the Tucson Mall. There are aisles and aisles of books and so much more! I love me a bookstore. Bookmans has a ton of books, games, DVDs, and other fun things available. There is so much to look at, it is almost overwhelming but being around books makes me happy so it over rides everything. They had these fun little "Blind Date Books" at the front of the store. They were wrapped with only a description of what the book was and who it would be for. I thought this was a great idea and ended up getting one for my Valentine. I love Bookmans! read more

Bookmans is one of the best local spots to head to so you can find used books, movies, music, instruments, comics, and so many other surprises around the store. Their displays are always relevant and updated and they have a decent selection. The staff are very helpful and there is a separate counter where you can drop off your used items to exchange for store credit or cash, depending on what is accepted. Please keep an eye out for prices since some are priced higher if they are new/unused books! Most of their used novels tend to range from $7.50 to $12 depending on their condition. Bookmans used to be a good place to go because it's called bookmans used books. Where you would go to get items at a discounted price since they are used. Nowadays it seems like the people in there have lost the ability to do math. They price things twice the price of the original pricing. Example of book that sells for 1695 in the store they price it for almost $30. They do this to the video games the movies and books that the personal employees feel are worth more because of their own nostalgia. Bookmans is a joke anymore. read more

What an absolute joke Bookmans Exchange has become. I was offered $30 cash or $85 in trade for a controller that sells in the condition I brought it in for over $300. That is not a "lowball," that is completely out of touch with reality. Whoever came up with that pricing model needs to revisit basic market value. On top of that, they are wildly overpricing video games. Games you can buy digitally, brand new, for half the price they're charging in-store. Make it make sense. What's even more baffling is the inconsistency. They'll gladly take old, worn-down books that clearly won't sell, yet refuse items that are brand new or in excellent condition. The logic is nonexistent. This place no longer feels like a fair exchange or a community bookstore. It feels like a cash grab with zero awareness of current resale markets. Never again. read more

This NEW location is TWO former locations merged into ONE. Very clean and well-organized. Friendly staff. Plentiful parking. Nice restrooms too - a door code is needed to use the restrooms. I wonder if there was a Starbucks next door, because the restrooms smelled like coffee nearby. LoL! I am a HUGE fan of Bookmans, with Mesa being my favorite hands down. This location is pretty big. The vibe is difference than the other one on Speedway. There are NOT as many collectible toys here as Speedway, Mesa, and Northern, but the area is near the front if you are hunting Funko, action figures, Star Wars, Marvel, Legos, etc. They do have a LOT of books and a nice selection of random gift items too. Pricing is reasonable. New and used items. A FUN visit! read more

I could literally spend hours in a Bookmans because there is so much to see from books, to musical instruments, to local artwork. It never gets old! This store is enormous. It's essentially the book shop and the Bookmans sports exchange combined. This has become another regular visit for me and my daughter this summer. She loves exploring all the aisles and they've hosted some children centric events, which have been just OK. They're free which a bonus but they haven't really wowed. But the space itself makes for fun exploration and of course some shopping too. read more

I traded in some comic books recently, and I had gotten a fake 20 dollar bill from the cashier.

Bookman's has been a favorite "go to" for decades. However, some of the staff at the new Stone store do not deliver the friendliness, interest and customer service that was typical of Bookman's since it was first founded. I left a bag behind by accident after trading in goods and purchasing a gift certificate. When I called in, I was told it would be up front for me. I walked into the store today heading to the front and was gestapo-like-stopped by a young woman whose gruff "greeting," rather than "hello" or "welcome" was to loudly and sternly tell me what I "had" to do rather than go directly to the front desk which I was told to do when I called in. She didn't even know why I was there. Then, the woman behind the front desk neither smiled nor was one bit friendly when I told her why I was there. When she could not find the bag, without saying "tough luck" out loud, she communicated it with her response and body language. In contrast, the day before, I was met and felt welcome by the man behind the trade counter as well as the gentleman at the register. I'm hoping that Bookman's can do better staff selection or extra customer service to help folks deal well with the public....especially during the stressful world with which we are all dealing. No one wants to go into a safe space like a bookstore and be treated poorly. read more

In all my years visiting Tucson and going to the Tucson mall. I have never been to this particular Bookmans. Till today. Walked out a couple hundred bucks lighter, however, much worth the $ spent. Ample parking, walking distance to Tucson mall & other venues. Well organized and typical Bookmans layout. Friendly staff. Despite basically everything behind glass (thanks to your friendly neighborhood five finger bandits) it's no hassle to get someone to grab whatever you need. Some things are a bit over priced, however, plenty of reasonably priced items to select from. Excellent location to find retro games, vinyl (yes, I said LPs, like the good stuff DJs used to spin a wheel to). If your looking to trade, sell, or buy, this is the place for you. read more

I'm a Tucson local, grew up going to Bookmans and now enjoy bring my kids. That said, I've been to this location a few times and have found this location to be a bit less than welcoming. I understand it's usually busy there, but most staff seem inconvenienced when I go to trade need help with something. This has honestly been true for all locations, but especially the few times I've gone to the new River store, which is especially disappointing because it's pretty far out of my way. Bookmans is quirky, and I'm perfectly find that it isn't a kiss up "customer is always right," kind of store, but the costumer service is so lacking I oftentimes feel unwelcomed. We're all human, we're allowed to have off days, but this is consistent. I won't stop going, but it's sad when one of my favorite stores starts to feel like a chore. read more

H*ll yea! New bookmans! Go there! Way cooler than the old speedway x country club location. And -- now you can wander off farther afield during a trade drop-off, and they'll text you to come pick it up! Nice! A staffer mentioned to me during soft opening a few weeks ago that they might put in couches and such there to make Bookmans feel more like a community space again, with people able more to hang out and use the wifi and chill, more per the original vision -- that would be so excellent. I hope they do that; it does feel pretty much like "just a store" now; and I do get a little claustrophobic a bit quickly here, as much as I do love it, unfortunately. But five stars anyways because h*ll yeah bookmans. read more

Anywhere my dog is welcomed (non-service/pedestrian dog) makes my heart happy. We enjoyed our visit, lots of attention for her. The staff was friendly, I wasn't offered help to find anything but I felt if needed, they would happily helped. I liked that the trading counter and cashier counter were separated, eliminating the traffic jam that is experienced on the east side and their old location. I liked the kids "nook" that was off to the side. I liked the gallery section and home decor scattered throughout the store (who doesn't like a treasure hunt??). I also liked that their jewelry was more centralized and easier to get a cashier's attention. I think there was a lot of thoughtfulness that went into the store, and I really appreciate that and I can see the direction that they're going in. It's still in its fledgling state, I think it's going to be a really cool place though when it finds its footing. read more

i don't recommend doing business w/ Bookman's unless you're buying e.g. a VCR, since they actually test those and have an unconditional return policy. Instead go to: the Humane Society thrift store, GameStop, Amazon, Mercari, Ebay, or some other place instead. Bookman's management & prices aint what it used to be. I haven't done business with them in over a decade but recently my experience with them has been atrocious. I had a handful of items on hold for 24-hrs, they didn't explain that they wanted a definitive hold date. Despite the fact that they can hold onto items for up to a week. They should simply make it less complicated and automatically hold items up to a week. And later a tall-female employee brunette w/ ponytail inferred blame on me when they said they had a certain ~$35 limit on holds when it was another employee, not me, that allowed me to place those on hold. And even then, i had returned within 24-hrs and had removed items from that hold then, and was gonna purchase even more. It hadn't been 24-hrs and they had already put what i had on hold back on the shelf, and 1-2 items i really wanted they "sold". They gave me a $2-coupon for my unfortunate experience. Still, I'm so disappointed, and their prices weren't even that great either, there's no sale dates, no online inventory of what they have and even internal between their branches here in Tucson,...Nobody's gonna drive to each of the numerous branches in Tucson just to find what they want. So i returned the few items i did buy. Trades: They refused to accept two paperback books their young-hipster audience IMHO would've enjoyed, they were in great condition with only minor cosmetic defects to the binding, any better condition than that for a paperback would've IMHO been collector's-grade. They had no writing or tears but because there were a few creases to the binding they were like "Nope." And even if they did accept them they said i would've received just a dollar. Btw, it shouldn't smell when you walk inside the store, especially a new store like this. I understand local business in general is struggling but if you're gonna conduct business like this, people are gonna take their business elsewhere. Without quality, there can be no equality. Good luck trying to remain profitable, esp. with the ever increasing minimum wage in AZ and poor management. Like i said, i don't recommend doing business w/ Bookman's unless you're buying e.g. a VCR. The new location is very frustrating. It's huge and super clean and looks nice over all....I really wanted to love it but I miss the Ina location. I feel like the point of going to Bookman's was the hunt and the great prices on used books, games etc. Now it seems like 1/2 the books are new and they are charging full MSRP. (Some were even listed at HIGHER than MSRP) If I wanted to pay full price I would go to a regular bookstore or order online. It's frustrating to have new and used books all mixed together. If you want to sell new too then please separate out the new and used sections. And the new kids section is huge and could have been so great but they filled it with tons of new, full (aka over) priced toys so that is all that young kids will see and want. The whole store had way too many random, kitschy items like socks, pen sets, keychains and other random stuff. It's going to take a lot of getting used to as far as layout but I just found the whole experience somehow both overwhelming and underwhelming. And the vibe is just not the same. They lost their weird little small town bookstore feel. I don't see myself returning over and over like I did the small Ina store ever since I was a little kid. read more

Great store with great prices but today was my first time coming into this specific store and I wasn't sure how to navigate around, I was standing at the trade counter trying to get an employee's attention by saying excuse me, I'm very soft spoken so I said it a couple of times each time louder than the last and finally an employee acknowledged me and I asked if they were able to look up a book I was looking for and before I could finish my sentence she cuts me off and immediately says no. I say okay and begin to walk away because the attitude was completely unnecessary. I then asked another employee and then they helped me find the exact book I was looking for. While checking out I shared my first experience with a beautiful young blond employee named Sam. She was more than helpful and apologized for the bad first experience I had. So I guess don't go unless you know what you're looking for and how to navigate that store. read more
