Troy has repaired my CTS several times, over the past few years. He has always been more than fair and the work is excellent. One thing he did was help me assemble a "take apart" trailer for my Harley. It was a nightmare if I had tried to do it myself and no other trailer would work, on a car as small as a CTS. Did a fantastic job and one of his guys even helped me with the strapping down and a quick lesson on backing up. I have trailered many Harleys to Daytona and Sturgis, over the years, but always in an enclosed trailer. This is a lot different and a 5 minute lesson probably saved me from a huge jackknife accident. read more

I have taken my 2013 Chevy Sonic to Tuffy several times for oil changes, tire rotation, and maintenance inspections. I never have trouble getting an appointment when I want it, and my car is always ready sooner than expected. I even took my car to a Chevy dealer recently for recall work. The dealer was great and did a complimentary maintenance inspection while doing the recall work and gave me a quote for repairs. The things they noted were minor thankfully and matched what Tuffy had already told me. However, one of the items Tuffy told me was so minor and they suggested not spending the money to repair it (since I plan to get a new car ) and they would just keep an eye on it over time. I appreciated their honesty in saving me money that they could have easily tried to get for the repair. Highly recommend Tuffy! Great staff! read more

I brought my Toyota Camry here for an oil change and I thought possibly my brakes needed to be replaced. Tom (owner)? was very nice. He called me within a couple of hours to let me know my brakes were still good, but my front end suspension needed repair. I knew something was going on with the car. While I needed the suspension repair, I really appreciated his honesty about my brakes. He could of easily said I needed brakes too. What do I know? Nothing about car mechanics! I usually take my car to the dealership, but now that I went to Tuffys , I wouldn't hesitate to bring my car here again. Ladies if you looking for a car mechanic, give this place a try. They always tell me what I "should do" with my repairs and then they tell me what I "need to do". Had front and back brakes replaced here. Seemed to do a good job but I had electrical problems (dashboard flashing, turn signal not working) right after they gave it back to me. I took it back in. They said it had nothing to do with them changing the brakes???? Ok, so they replaced something and charged me $120 and now my turn signals both don't work. Them insisting it had nothing to do with the work they did is what's most frustrating. I didn't have that trouble before it was in the shop. They'll look at again but at their convenience and need it for a couple days. Since they insist it's not their fault and they charged me $120 to replace something that doesn't seem to be the problem I'll find somewhere else. read more

Twice I have attempted to have work completed on my truck at Tuffy in Elgin. Both times, I was told that they do not have any open appointments for days. This past time, I called on a Friday to make sure I could stop in and get an oil change and I was told they did not have time and I would have to wait until Monday afternoon, and even then I was told "maybe". It was almost as if the guy was laughing at me for even asking to have an oil change done without calling days ahead. Who knows, maybe this place is amazing and there should be a waiting list to get in but I'm going to pass. After two attempts, it's not worth my time and hassle. read more

HORRIBLE! I have a Toyota camry.for some reason something makes noise under steering wheel. OK I went to check this place out cuz theyre 5 minutes away from my house. The guy came out and told me they were going to test drive the car. I waited there for whole hour, the guy came to me and said hey you know whats the problem in your car Im like no and he takes the sheet of paper and showed me whole bunch of parts that I needed to replace in my car. total came up to $2714.52 And I asked him i dont have this much money whats the main reason that makes a noise. And he goes the main noise SHOCKS/SPRINGS/STRUTS. You need to replace both sides, it will only be $701.93 also told me it will take4 to 5 hours to replace them I trusted the dude and made appointment for Thursday morning. it was Monday I believe but I had to fix the noise ASAP. I drive for lyft and Wednesday one of my guy told me about the shop in chicago. I took my car over there in the morning they checked my car out in like 30-45 minutes and bring my car to me and the guy who checked my car out said your car is all fixed i didn't believe him until i drove the car lol and only gave him 20 bucks the problem was the screw was loose he had to make it tighter thats all. My daughter and I are new to the area and needed and her car needed an oil change.. we took the car in and the price was exactly as quoted and no pressure for upsell. They replaced light bulbs that were out above her license plate for a very nominal fee. They let us know what services her car will be needing in the near future and provided us a quote in the chance we want to bring it back to them. When we told them she is a student at ECC they also told us that if she had work done on her car they would take her to school! It is not easy being in a new area and finding a shop to trust. I am female senior citizen and my knowledge regarding car repairs is lacking. I have been going to Tuffy for a few years. I ask them to look over my car and tell me what it needs. My car is ll years old and I have had few necessary repairs. They are honest. I went in the other day to have my battery replaced. They checked the battery before replacing it and said your battery does not need to be replaced. I was pleasantly surprised. I mentioned that the car will be sitting in the garage a few weeks. Troy said just call us up and we will be glad to come out and jump it for you if needed. There was no charge for his time. Troy and his team are the best auto service group I have ever used and I've used many in different states around the country. They are very honest, priced right, professional and extremely reliable. I too have experienced their busy schedule and had to wait a day or two for an appointment. Doesn't happen often but it can happen. But I ask you, would you rather wait and have it done right or zip right in and suffer later? There are reasons why some auto service companies don't have a problem giving you an appointment. Most of the 1 star reviews don't make sense, then consider most people only write reviews when they feel mistreated. Take a look at how many 5 star reviews you see here for Tuffy in Elgin. I went to Tuffy in Elgin, IL to get my ball joint fixed and tire alignment. They definitely charged too much, but I needed it to be done, so I went ahead with it. When I drove away, I had to drive right back because it was actually WORSE than when I brought it in! They checked it out and decided it was the new part that was bad. I made another appointment and they fixed it again. They said I would not need another tire alignment. So I overpaid for all the hassle and it still pulls to the right just a little. They said I needed a whole engine 1st they said I needed a battery since I was a out of town license plate I guess they went with the engine.. It took them a while month to fix my car they never put the new engine in my car... Finally they so called fix I barely make back to Ohio and my car broke down again... They never replace the engine they kept the new engine and transfer old Engine parts for my car scam scam... I reported them too the bbb 2. shut this place down... if u read Amy comments my dashboard and everything went off 2... everything they do is a lie and scam... it wasn't on the highway it broke down a cross the street... I had a check engine light on. I had a code of P0300 which means random multiple misfires. I had changed the plugs 8 months and 4,000 miles ago. I took it to Tuffy. The said I had the wrong plugs, too much anti seize, and the gaps were wrong. They wanted $495 for new plugs and wires before they could look into the problem further. They said I had oxygen sensor and other codes. I told them I will think about it and paid them $47.50 to get my truck back. It turns out the plugs were correct, the gaps were correct, there was not too much anti seize, and there were no other codes. Either Tom Hammang or Ben Giabreto lied to me. read more
