I originally went to Firestone because I thought I had a tire that needed to be repaired, but they were unable to help. I then came to Tuffy, where Vince and his team took the time to properly inspect the tire. During their inspection, they realized the tire actually did not need a repair after all. What really stood out to me was their honesty and professionalism. They did not charge me anything for the inspection and simply gave me the information I needed. I have gone there for few years. Spent over $5000 there. The last 2 experiences have been horrible. My AC needed to be replaced after that, no issues with the AC. However after about a month, I noticed I had a parasitic draw, come out and battery was dead. Then I had the Service Engine Soon coming on for the O2 sensors. I brought it back they said they had a machine to scan for the parasitic draw, it found nothing, now they said it could be the battery causing the the parasitic draw. They replaced a very expensive battery with a much cheaper one, issue not fixed. They also replaced the O2 sensors and the Service Engine Soon light still coming on. The do the sensors they took out the radiator. A month or so later my car overheated, had to have it towed to my home. I tried to fill the radiator and it all came pouring out on to the ground. I found the bottom hose of the radiator, the hose clamp was never tightened, the hose was put back on the spout. I tightened the clamp and refilled the radiator, filled up without issue. Now I have a fried water pump or thermostat from the overheating. The amount of aggravation they caused me ridiculous. Extremely disappointed. read more

I lived in Plainfield for 16 years, from the time I moved there, he is the only person I trusted. Tim wants his customers to be happy, he doesn't try to rip you off or charge ungodly prices on his services. I have sent many friends to him, all told me he is great, and has beaten any quote for work they needed done and did a great job. I highly recommend his establishment for your vehicles, make an appointment, because he is always busy. That should tell you how great this place is, parking spots and other areas are always filled. I would give these guys no stars if that were an option here, but it isn't. I am very disappointed that I had taken my truck here on two separate occasions. Trusting Tuffy was my first mistake. I took them at their word, but they took more of my money and failed to fix the problem I had paid them to resolve on the first occasion. Tuffy promised to fix the faulty work from my first visit, but instead of keeping their word, they came up with an outrageous story about my truck not being roadworthy and refused to fix the problem. Tuffy's outrageous tale is so twisted that they tricked me into getting more work done on my vehicle a second time, because they agreed to fix the original problem at the same time. Still, they never fixed the original problem, but they did fix the second problem and charged me for it. Still, on the same day after taking my money for the second job, they said they would not fix anything else on my truck because it wasn't roadworthy, leaving the original issue I came back for unfinished and untouched. If that isn't the most outrageous move ever, I don't know what is. Because if my truck were truly unroadworthy and unsafe, like Tuffy says, why even do the second job? That's my big question, but I know the real answer. The owner is a joke, lacking honor and having a fickle character to match. I'm very disappointed, but what goes around comes around. read more

Took my 4 Runner to Tuffy's after failing emission test. 2 weeks and $3,000 later i was told fixed. Drove 2 blocks and all warning lights came on. Took back to Tuffy's. 3 weeks later and another $1,000 was told fixed with new computer module. All warning lights came back on within 3 blocks. Took back to Tuffy's and was told to take to Toyota! Toyota now tells me that it will take $5000 to fix Tuffy's errors and replace items that Tuffy installed! Made an appointment for an advertised oil change. First, there is no parking...no bueno. Second, I asked if they were running on time when I got there ( they said yes )... they took the vehicle back almost a half hour late. Next, Apparently the coupon is for non synthetic oil ( most cars need synthetic now ) but it wasn't stated CLEARLY on the coupon. Lastly, I do appreciate the tech making sure I was aware of the price before doing the oil change. The employees seem pleasant, trying to do the best they can. Brandon looked at my daughters car because I had concerns of plastic tubing from an oil extractor breaking off in the engine. He flushed it out and sent cameras down there and found nothing to be concerned about and then decided I shouldn't be charged. I am a loyal customer there but I swear I am not related or a friend of any kind. This is just how they treat their customers! Brandon thank you so much for taking care of my daughters Audi. Took my car for a routine oil change and inspection before leaving for college and was met with frustration and unprofessionalism. My appt was at 9:30 in the morning and didn't get any word about the car until almost closing after calling multiple times with no updates b/c they hadn't even looked at the car. The parking lot is overfilled with cars so not sure why they're still accepting business if they're overbooked or can't catch up. Once my car was finally looked at, the kid who called about it didn't know what he was talking about and couldn't explain what needed to be done. My dad had to go there in person to talk to someone to get a better idea of what was wrong after the inspection. After all this with minimal communication, the car stayed overnight and was finally ready today (the next afternoon) to be picked up. The guy who checked us out didn't know where the car was and had to look for it. When he pulled the car to the front finally, I found my light gray cloth seats and floor mats, steering wheel, middle console, gearshift, side door handle, and side speaker greasy and filthy. Luckily, a worker was passing and nice enough to clean it and said they have stuff to cover the seats and mats, but who knows if they were used, but I would say not. I was unimpressed with the unprofessional service and lack of care the shop has for their customers' cars. Needless to say I won't be returning my business to them. If you go anywhere else in the area your crazy. Just brought my car in after trying to change my headlight bulb only to find out you have take off the entire cover of the wheel well to get to it. Not as easy as it sounds so called to take it to Tuffy with the bulb -- not only did they fix it in a day but when I went to pick it up they said "oh you brought your own bulb " no charge!! I have taken my 3 cars there for years and every single time they have been honest, helpful, and their prices are extremely reasonable. When my van was horribly clunking the transmission recently, I was ready for a rebuild. I called the Tuffy location on 2031 Route 59 Plainfield Il 60586 about my car prior to getting it towed there, it's in lets start there. I was told that they would not be able to look at it till that Friday which was ok no problem, I explained the car had been sitting over a year in my garage, no rush. I explain the car was making a terrible noise, asked to find the problem and any thing else that need to be done to make it road ready. So first they say it needs a battery, easy no big news there and the noise I heard was a piece off the muffler. I asked a an oil change and please check the belts. So 450 dollars later my car is ready I go pay for it and pick it up later when I can have someone to drop me off. They never drove my car pass the Arby's parking lot if the car goes over 20 miles an hour I hear a grinding noise the same noise I had it towed there for. So I made it home and had it towed to another Service station, very little oil in my car it was dirty oil, and the noise was wheel barrings. I was told that this Tuffys was fair, apparently they are too busy to take the time to find the real problems. Tim and his staff are ALWAYS professional and answer all of my questions - even when I'm clearly in need of extra explanation that would frustrate most. This month our truck needed repairs. Thinking it was not major, we let ourselves be swayed by a friend to have someone they know look at it - ONLY because we drive almost 45 minutes to get to Tuffy and the distance can get frustrating. (This will NEVER happen again.) When the guy told us it was going to be a major repair we ran it to Tuffy as quickly as we could. With my tail between my legs, and feeling incredibly guilty for having anyone else look at it to begin with, we left it with Tim and waited for the call. The repairs were pretty large. He did the entire repair for a very reasonable rate and got us tires at a great price, too. Tuffy's pattern of quality business and professionalism proved true yet again. You can't put a value on being able to trust your mechanic. Their work means our safety. Tim and his staff know this - and continuously make the decision not to use that truth to extort people. There is never any unexplained or unnecessary repair work suggested or done. There has never been a service provided that hasn't been approved first. They came across as very friendly and they may be. I give them kudos for the shuttle ride. The reality experience for me is that they misdiagnosed my car issue and quoted me a price of $2,500 to repair it. I went to tire track on Harrison and they properly diagnosed and repaired my car for $167. Sad to say I do not trust Tuffy and do not recommend them. They really tried to take me for a ride. We live in Des Plaines and my wife was visiting her mom in Shorewood when she got a flat. I felt helpless when she called me since I was at work up in Lake Zurich. I called a few places around the area and received the run around "Can't help you." or "$100 tow but will take a couple hours." Finally one place referred me to Tuffy's and that was the best thing that could happen. Talked to a nice guy named Nick and he offered to go put the spare on my wife's car for free! I was like, what's the catch? He said nothing. Up to her if she wants to bring it back to the shop and get a new tire or take it back to your own mechanic. Needless to say I made sure my wife gave him a nice tip and have let my mother-in-law know that is the place to take her car for now on. Great service Tuffy's!
