Tried out this place after being disappointed from other chain tire places in the area and was so happy I did. The customer service was great, easy to make an appointment and when I got there the guy was super nice. The waiting area was pristine clean, and with this whole pandemic going on, that was a relief. The garage area where they work was also clean, and they were able to get me in and out of there fast. Years ago I had a change of oil. Next day my garage was full of oil, I took it to Nissan dealer and was told the bolts were loose and drained the oil, Nissan changed the oil, I paid and went back to Farmsworth Auto, they apologized and gave me a Boucher for another change oil next time. read more

Five years later and I'm still super happy with Auto Plus. In fact, now that we're kicking around the idea of moving out of Illinois one thing that has me strangely bummed out is going through the whole song and dance of finding an honest mechanic again. Here's something that happened just this week that felt worth highlighting: I've got a Prius that's around 8 years old now, so I'm getting to the point where I'm replacing some of the longer interval parts that go bad on cars. Around six months or so ago when I was in for an oil change they pointed out that my shocks needed to be replaced. Again, not super unexpected given the age of the car. I had them do the work, and didn't really think of it again. This week I was in for another oil change, and as part of their inspection they pointed out that the replacement shocks were starting to leak and they'd replace them for free since they were still under the warranty Auto Plus provides on their parts/work. I was just sort of baffled by this, as the car drives fine, and they honestly could have just said nothing to me and I never would have known... Or probably just paid to replace them again in another couple years. This just really blew me away, as they just totally redid the job I paid what was likely well over $500 for free. Which, again, was solving a problem I didn't know about and likely never would have realized without them telling me about it. For a shady mechanic, this would have been a prime opportunity to rip me off. Also, in defense of Auto Plus, after catching up on some of their more recent negative reviews since I first wrote my original review... What I will say is when you're in the waiting room at this shop the amount of kooks who come in is ... something else. I'm not sure if this is something that all shops deal with, but it seems like Auto Plus attracts an inordinate amount of people who haven't taken care of their cars and then for some reason are mad at Auto Plus, and not themselves, when it turns out their car needs loads of expensive repairs. Anyway, I've had nothing but good experiences here, the guys have proven themselves to be extremely trustworthy over and over, and it's really nice to have a place by this nearby. read more

The worst mechanic experience I've ever had to deal with. I had a serpentine belt break on my way home from work, and once it started overheating I knew it was time to call a tow truck. I had it towed to Farnsworth auto, because I could walk there the following day once it was repaired since it was so close to my home. The next morning after dropping my car there overnight I received a call from Marco's who was polite and easy to deal with. He asked if I just wanted the belt replaced and I told him that I suspected a coolant leak as well. After they did some investigating they came back to inform me the water pump also needed to be repaired. Marcos told me if it was just the water pump It would be around 300 plus labor and coolant. If something was broke off inside it would be closer to 800. I took them to proceed to take it apart and let me know which one of the two I was dealing with. Marcos called with good news it was just the water pump, so I told them to proceed. But however they insisted I also needed brakes in the front and my rear struts looked like they were original so they should be replaced too, along with some other issues. I told them my Brakes and suspension were all replaced within the last year so please only change the water pump. When I walk in to pay I'm surprised by a $1200 bill. After being completely shocked by this now 3x the price bill I was expected to pay they managed to work it down $200. After I left I noticed my car was shifting irregularly so I called Farnsworth Auto back and explained the matter, about ten minutes after I left. They told me to turn around and they would take a look at it. So I turn around and when I walk in and explain I had just left after them doing some work, they proceed to tell me it will cost another $144 dollars for them to even talk a look. Still angry I overpaid on a job that averages 400-600 I called the mechanic who did my brakes not even 6 months prior. They told me bring in we will inspect it free of charge and if your brakes aren't working properly we will replace them free of charge since they are under warranty. I had them inspect every issue that Farnsworth auto told me should be looked at. They came back to tell me everything looked fine. When I called Farnsworth and told them the situation they insisted that my other mechanic was simply trying to get out of the warranty. What they don't know is some of the "so called" defective parts weren't even installed by them and were approved. Never go here! read more

I came here to get a oil change the sign outside says $21.99 I asked about the price when I walked into the store. Angel told me it was going to be $21.99 + tax so I left my car. When I came back 35/40 minutes later I was told my total was $31.99!! Angel proceeded to tell me the sign was wrong and they can't change it. Mind you I asked and Angel agreed in the beginning what the price would be. He wouldn't give me the price from the sign he gave some weak lame apology and that was it. I will NEVER go back here. I took my VW jetta here cause I discovered some fluid was leaking from my car. So this was the nearest auto service shop. They checked it and confirmed there was a oil leak and told me they didnt do that at there shop. I had a warrenty so wasnt planning on doing the service there anyways. Thought they were really nice for checking it. However they told me my rotors were worped and pads were bad. I asked for a estimate they came back with $1180.00 which even for being a women I thought it was pricey. So I took it into VW dealer shop and had other work done and asked them to check brakes. They said they were fine. Then took to Merlins in Montgomery and they confirmed brakes were in good condition. SCAREY beware!!! read more

I love this place. They take good care of me and seem very honest. To the point they didn't sell me tires once. I went in there wanting to buy tires they said that I should wait 6 more months because they weren't that bad and to get them right before or after winter. They even have a loaner car they can offer. They've taken care of some small things for me, and some huge things too. A lot of times for the small things they don't charge me. It was winter and my one door froze open. I live in a condo so I can't plug in a hair dryer to defrost it. And, it was my back passenger side door. I was running late for work that day too, in a frenzy I actually called off. But I took it there as it's so close to me. The guy sat out there for 15 minutes heating my door. Told me to go inside and get warm. Gave me hot chocolate. He came in with ice forming on his lips and told me I was all set. I asked how much, he said I can't charge you for that. I said can I at least tip you so that you could get lunch or something. He said no. I'll always be back. It's so easy for me. Don't get me wrong there were times they couldn't fix something or didn't know what was wrong. But they asked me to bring my truck in and kept trying. That's golden. read more

My wife and I moved to the area almost 3 years ago and I have taken every vehicle we have owned (3) and my company fleet vehicle to Auto Plus and have never received anything less than great service. We've had a car with 127,xxx miles, a car just out of warranty, and even our new car getting OEM factory recommended service (cheaper than the dealer), plus the work truck, and they've always been honest, efficient and helpful. We've had oil changes, new tires, suspension, and more all done here. Drop off service with rides home/pick-up when service is complete or a couple of loaner vehicles are available most times. They document most inspection issues with vehicles with photos and keep them in the system for reference. They even recognize us by now. They also have paid us for referrals from friends and send reminders for service and discounts. Great place! read more

I also took my Tahoe there with a Groupon for a free oil change and free windshield wipers. The main mechanic told me I needed over $2000 worth of repairs. He even brought me into the garage to show me how bad my brakes looked and how I only had less than 10% left on them. I had no clue what I was looking at. He also showed me an oil leak which I was surprised to see because we had no traces of oil in our garage to indicate that. He told me I was at risk driving it and he could start working on it right away. I said I needed to contact my husband first. He insisted I call my husband right then & there, which I refused to do since my husband was at work. While waiting to finish the oil change, the mechanic came to me again and said he didn't have the right windshield wipers because my Tahoe needed a "special" kind. So he just gave me a coupon. Again he insisted I leave my Tahoe and offered to rent me a car while my Tahoe would be in the shop...No way! I took my Tahoe to another shop and it turned out it didn't need $2000 of major repairs. The brakes were fine and the mechanic said the bolts were loosened to create the leak. He tightened them and we had no more issues of leaking oil. My Tahoe doesn't require special windshield wipers because I could buy them anywhere. BEWARE - THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU if you know nothing about cars. They are very pushy and will tell you anything to make you believe your car needs urgent repairs. While I was there, I heard the mechanic giving the same BS to another woman. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this place! read more

I used to ONLY take my car to Chevy.. until I encountered an issue, so I've been takIf my car only to auto plus in Aurora. I've never had an issue until my most recent visit. They are usually very friendly and honest and I look forward to my visits. This last visit I called ahead to ask about an oil change, and they said to come on in. I needed the car back by 2pm in order to get to my dr appointment on time.. I dropped my car off at 12:30. They called me at 2:00 to say that they did not get a chance to get to my car! I was so disappointed in the service and was stressed about my waste of time and day off! They then offered to start it right away and it would be ready by 2:30.. which was TOO late! By time I got there to pick my car up (around 2:10) the car was done and ready to go... this visit just seemed unprofessional and unorganized.. Disappointed...spent $700 for tires here about a year ago. I intermittently get a light on for the tire pressure sensor that only stays on a few mins. Called from the parking lot to ask to have someone scan the sensors and check for the code. Discount Tire does this for free. Guy wanted to charge me. Pointed out that the light goes away after a very short time. Guy inside was very slow to have another guy go check it. Then the guy that came out didn't know how to use the scanner. By the time all of this went on, the light went away and missed the opportunity to diagnose the issue. read more

I've been here several times and have had decent service. The last few times I feel like I was really taken advantage of. I was charged $40 for a car battery install, when I can go anywhere else and get this done for free. I was also charged $100 for a cabin air filter replacement. The dealer only charges $30 for this, and dealers tend to be the worst! I refuse to go here, and can't recommend anyone else do the same if they are looking for an honest quote. read more

I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience at Auto Plus in Aurora. I had an emergency situation today when my car began smoking under the hood at a traffic light. I needed to find a mechanic fast and luckily they were located within a block of the intersection of Farnsworth and Indian Trail in Aurora. The bays were full and it was obviously busy, but they still managed to fit my car in and get several things fixed. They even drove me home (30 min away) so I wouldn't have to wait, and picked me back up when it was done! They also have loaner cars so you don't have to wait, if you're a regularly scheduled customer. They were thorough and honest, and the prices were reasonable. I knew approximately what the repairs would have cost elsewhere, as I had checked out other places closer to home, knowing I needed work done soon. Even though I am a woman, and was desperate for help, I didn't get taken advantage of, and that was a huge relief. Eric and Tim went out of their way to make this scary experience turn out well. I will be coming back for all of my repair work in the future. They offer 0% financing for 6 months and text or email reminders for when routine maintenance is due. This is something I really need as I forget to do the basic stuff when my car is running well. I'm a very happy new customer. read more

It started with an issue that a member of the family who has his own shop, told me could not be fixed. Buyer Beware: Here's a little history on our car. It's a 98 Grand Marquis with about 130,000 miles on it that I received from my great -uncle. For the most part the car ran smoothly with a heating and cooling issue that we got fixed in Sept 2017. We didn't have any issues with the car since then . We drove the car round-trip to St. Louis with no issues the week prior to taking the car to Farnsworth. The only reason we took it to Farnsworth was because it did not pass the emissions test and they were recommended first on the list by emissions as being successful with cars passing. Since this company is first on the list for emissions success, they will do everything to stay first. According to my emissions codes, it was an 02 sensor issue. The initial diagnostic was not enough so they had to do a more thorough one for a grand total of 200 + dollars. Upon the more advanced diagnostic ,they discovered that indeed the O2 sensors needed to be replaced, but also the alternator was causing the battery light to stay on which would result in a failed emissions so they recommended I fix both. While we waited for our car to be fixed, Diane the receptionist was kind enough to drop us off back home in her personal car. ( They do also offer loaners if you have full coverage insurance ) Farnsworth called with a quote of $900 and Diane recommended financing at 0% for 90 days which is great except for the fact that they don't tell you that the interest rate is 189% if after 90 days. I read the paper work and signed it knowing about the 189% , but that was not shared with me when I initially agreed to have the car serviced on the phone. I recommended that they are upfront with future customers about the terms of the agreement. The car literally shut off before I turned out of the parking lot, but started back up. I called them immediately and they said that if the car stopped, they would have it towed back to the shop. It drove fine after that. The next week , I went back to Farnsworth because they will not release the emissions paperwork to you until you go back to the shop and have all of the codes scanned before you get your car tested with emissions again. The car scanned fine and I passed emissions. Hooray right! Wrong. As soon as I left from purchasing my sticker from the emission's facility, I get in my car only to find that it will not start. Great! My 6 month old and I catch an uber back home, call Farnsworth and they have the car towed. They tried to charge us for the tow stating that normally towing is not free. I stated that normally I don't spend $ 900 to get a car fixed only to have it not start several days later. If I had known they were charging me for that mistake, I would have just had my insurance tow it for free. They agreed to take care of the tow. Generous. This time at Farnsworth, the diagnosis is a starter. They were able to bang on the starter and get the car to start. They kinda play this, it might start again or it might not game so it's probably best that you get it fixed. Unfortunately, I got it fixed. They also mentioned something about a battery being loose and wanted to charge us 50 bucks for a strap to keep it in. Never had a problem with the battery moving. I declined. They told me the last time I was there that they would be giving a 10% discount to educators. When I went in to pay for the starter, they didn't know what I was talking about and said they couldn't give any further discount. The discount on paper was less than 10% so I simply asked to use the 10% instead of what they thought they were providing. They declined. Fast forward to a week later, the check engine light came back on. Oh joy. Fast forward to a month later and the car is now also overheating. We did not have all of these issues before taking it to Farnsworth. I understand our car is no spring chicken, but to go from needing o2 sensors to this is ridiculous and unacceptable. $ 1400 dollars and almost two months later and the car is stranded on the side of the road. We could have just put a down payment on a new car at this point, but thought that the expensive repairs would have our car in solid condition. read more

My 18 yr old daughter went there because she had a coupon for a free oil change. They ended up telling her that she needed $1,200 worth of work done to replace the ball joints, U joints, and other misc. stuff, and that her car was unsafe to drive as it was. They told her on a scale of 1 to 10 she was at an 8 for the possibility that her wheel(s) would fall off while driving. They frightened her into thinking her safety was at risk. She gave me their written estimate, and I ended up taking her car to a trusted mechanic for a second opinion, and I was told the car was completely safe to drive. It didn't need any of the work they told her she needed. They should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people that don't know anything about mechanics. I believe they are shady and I would not recommend going there. read more

I took my car in to replace the rotors and pads that I found out were incorrect parts supplied by Tire Rack. During that work Auto Plus found a CV Drive Axle boot we torn and open and needed to be replaced. They preformed the work but when car returned it had a server vibration which was not there when I brought the car in. I called and they were understanding and had me bring the car back. Over the course of the next 3 days and numerous phone calls, they reworked the CV Axle, rebuilt the original, and corrected the issue. They also replaced a tensioner as good faith. This was a difficult situation that after all was done, they handled it very professionally and returned the car that now runs perfectly. Not very many repair shops go to the extent they did to make things right. They estimated it was going to be a total of more than $1,000. I got my car back at my place & I went to another & I was only charge $200.00 for fixing the car & they did not charge me for scanning the car, they were very polite & the most important thing they did not overcharge me for their services.
