Doesn't look like much when you walk, run or drive by, to be honest even when you walk in. The decorum here is nothing super exciting but you do get a sense of Asia and it also reminded me of a time when I was in Seattle. Just because of the boats and hanging helm on the wall. I am a BIG fan of cat fish and fries. The two fish Fillets I had were ok. To me it just seemed like it was breaded and fried. No seasoning for flavor and this is something I'm not used to. Not even the taste from the oil. The fish was well cooked and the fries were nice. I didn't dislike it but I was looking for more. They have fresh sushi on the menu so I'll keep this place in mind for my next lunchtime sushi run. Give them a lot of credit, the restaurant was very clean all around. They're not expensive either, they provide enough food for a great value. Most everything is deep-fried but tastes fresh, you can tell they change the frying oil often and don't re-use old batter. By keeping the ingredients fresh the food tastes remarkable. The batter always has a great consistency, never soggy or stale. The fish itself is cooked well, never undercooked. They even have chicken for non-fish eaters! They don't over-season anything, you can determine the taste with the sauces provided (Cocktail, Tartar, Ketchup, Vinegar). There are so many choices, this place really is perfect for anyone. I don't tend to like fried foods since the grease seems to coat your mouth. The fish here, however, is very light and flavorful with no after taste. They also have THE BEST sweet tea I've had (again, not a big fan of usually). I usually have about 2 big cups of it there. Checked this place out with a few friends because I've been craving fried fish since I moved from Corpus Christi. Surprisingly, this place didn't disappoint. The fried fish was delicious, the fried chicken had a unique breeding that I couldn't quite grasp but enjoyed. The owner brought us out a French fry creation she was planning to add to the menu for us to try and I really enjoyed it. It had a few sauces, cheese, and green chili sauce...I really enjoyed it. This is a small establishment with only about 6 tables and counters surrounding the windows. I like the service here and the prawns are still tasty. I walked in placed my order of 2pc catfish and chips and immediately sat down. Within 5 mins my food was delivered to my table HOT as if the catfish just came out of the grease. I was so impressed on how quick it came out I ordered a side of calamari strips which also came out quick. I took a bite out of my 1st piece of catfish and deep in my soul said thank you. It was truly fresh. The fries were also hot and delicious. The size if the meal was well worth the money. The calamari came out hot and ready too. Very delicious overall. I would have easily given this place 5 stars based on the food however here's the rest of it. The cocktail sauce was not marked which led to me putting some on my fries, they charge .60 for a sweet tea refill and the parking lot is small. So be careful when entering or leaving. From the outside this place doesn't seem much but in the inside it is a nice mom and pop establishment. I have always been curious to try this place but I was skeptical. First I noticed that it is very clean inside. I hardly saw any trash on the floor or on the tables. The fish was deep fried very well. On the table they have condiments of ketchup, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. I thought the tartar sauce was lacking in some flavor and that it was a thin sauce. I would suggest to make it a little thicker. I also tried the fried ice cream. This dessert was fantastic. They add slices of orange in the bowl and they add some syrup on top of the ice cream. This was the highlight of my visit. The combination of the orange and the ice cream made it delicious. I thought that the fries weren't seasoned at all but it wasn't much of a problem since they had salt and pepper on the table. In conclusion, Tugboat Fish and Chips is a great little place to get fresh and authentic fish and chips. It's a very clean place that is runned by nice people. We ordered 2 orders of the fish and chips (3 pieces of fish each), but one order we substituted the chips for hush puppies, and the other with fried zucchini. We have been going to Tug boat fish and chips since we discovered it probably over two years now. Its consistently good and great service. I get the combo fish and prawns. It usually has oysters in it and scallops but I substitute it for more prawns and love it.
