I stopped in on a chilly, cloudy afternoon. The place is clean and has a lot of windows to bring in light. If you are craving fish and chips, stop in here for some fresh fried fish. Not as good as I remembered, fish pieces really small compared to Anchor, shrimp decent, fried zucchini very greasy, everything was greasy, I had to make a mad dash to the bathroom about 30 min after eating and it definitely aggravated the ole gallbladder, Anchor is so much better and about the same price, so I doubt I'll be back. read more

We stopped into Tugboat today for some quick fish and chips. It was a lot bigger inside than I thought it would be, with booths lining the side with windows. Originally it was the painted windows that caught my eye and we're always excited to try a new spot. When I walked in I was greeted right away and I ordered the two fish-fish and chips ($11.99) and some lumpia ($9.99). I snapped some photos as I waited and it was out within five to ten minutes and it was HOT and FRESH! When I got to the car we immediately wanted to try a bite and it was seriously so fresh and hot. After that first bite we decided to let it cool down and all of it was delicious. We'll definitely be stopping by again to try more of the options from the menu, but the fish and chips and lumpia are worth getting again. read more

My girlfriend and I went for lunch, we both had fish and chips and a soft drink in a can. We were pleasantly surprised that we only got charged $1.35 per can for the soda because most other restaurants that sell cans get two or three dollars for them. The fries were hot when they arrived and didn't have any fishy flavor, in fact, the fish didn't really have a fishy flavor so everything was quite good and fresh. We were very happy with our meal and would recommend this place. Delicious fish & chips! We were filling up our tank at Costco gas when I called around 7:20p to confirm what time they closed. We were told 8:00p. We got done with gas about 10 mins after and headed straight to the restaurant, which was in the same area. The door was unlocked but lights were dimmed. I missed coming here. It seemed like it was hit and miss when they are open. This was a Tuesday night after Sam's trip. Had fish and fries and wife had shrimp and fish. We split some onion rings. It was a lot of food. Great fish. Was not greasy at all. Light batter. The shrimp were huge, not cleaned but that doesn't slow some people down. French fries were basic but hot. Where do I begin? My best friend, her mom and I just ate here. The restaurant itself is covered in grim and sticky residue. The counter top is super sticky. I used the hand sanitizer they had lined up on the bar and wiped it down and the napkin was black afterward. The booths and even the door handle is covered in duct tape. The chairs at the counter are an accident waiting to happen. Doesn't seem like anything is ever properly cleaned. There is a nasty odor in the air as well. I get the vibe the man and his wife might live in the restaurant as I saw a bottle of perfume and medication on the counter behind the grill. The calamari was super rubbery. Very over cooked. Nothing has any seasoning. Everything is super greasy. My friend's mom barely had any of her food and was disgusted. She asked if she could get potstickers instead. They told her no and said no refunds or exchanges. The man was yelling in her face and getting very aggressive. Lunging at her and pushing off the counter top. I thought he was going to hit her. My friend and I asked for to go boxes since we were very uncomfortable and ended up throwing it all away once we left. Over all extremely poor customer service. Very unclean. For those of you that reside in the Sacramento area, "Tugboat Fish & Chips" are sporadically located all throughout the county. I consider them to be a minor step up from "Long John Silver's" but much of their food has that greasy fair/carnival taste that people love. This takes me to their Citrus Heights location where it was actually my first time trying this location out. Located directly on Greenback Lane and adjacent to Fountain Square Dr., this Tugboat can be a hit or miss since much of the signage is a little difficult to read. They are in the same parking as Sam's Club but this place has its own little parking area which wasn't at all an issue upon my arrival. Keep in mind that they are closed on Sunday/Monday just in case you're craving fish on those days. I ended up calling in my order for pickup around 8:15pm on Friday 5/14/2021. I told the employee I would like one order of their "3-Piece Fish" (for $10.49) which includes chips (French fries) and 2 containers of tartar sauce. I arrived around 8:25pm and my order was ready within a couple of minutes. The inside of this place was very clean while the employees were masked up and following all safety guidelines. Indoor dining was optional but since I live 5 minutes away from here, I took my food to-go. Also, this place does not offer any outdoor/patio seating. As soon as I got home and opened up the box, I was impressed with the sizable portions of their fish. Granted, much of the fish itself was heavily coated in batter but each bite was very crispy while their tartar sauce had the perfect blend of mayo, dill, and vinegar. I was kind of bummed that they didn't include a side of malt vinegar but that wasn't a dealbreaker. I do have to say that you definitely get what you pay for as this entire meal filled me up. As far as the fries, they give you a lot but they were just average as they taste like your standard frozen krinkle cut fries that you pop in the oven. All in all, "Tugboat Fish & Chips No 7" in Citrus Heights is definitely an above average experience as the customer service was good while the portions and price all were excellent. I could do without so much grease and batter but it is comfort food at its finest. My rating, a solid four stars. read more

I have eaten at many other Tug Boats before and I must say this is my favorite one of them all. There's something about this place that makes the fish tastes so good. We had the 1 fish and prawn (4 prawns) for 13.99 and added an extra fish for 4.00. Side order of fried Oysters (3) for 5.99, bottle water and a can of Pepsi (fountain drink machine not working) all came out to be under 30.00. The fish and prawns and the fries were not greasy at all. Everything is cooked to order. Although this place is not close to where we live i would gladly drive the 30minutes to get here. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays...we made that mistake and was very sad that we couldn't enjoy having fish and chips. read more

The chicken was thin slice pieces that didn't really look like chicken strips. The calamari was only strips of calamari that tasted like they were frozen and not fresh. When I order calamari I expect the rings and little squids, not strips. The fries were extremely disappointing, they were not traditional "chips" dtyle fries. They were crinkle cut fries that were soggy and had no seasoning. Tasted like the big bag of Oreda fries you get at Costco. I also ordered hushpuppies , you get 5 for $4. We came in tonight about 6:50pm, there were about 6 groups ahead of us. It was quite a wait to get the fish & prawns dishes, but worth it! Come on, I drove from Lincoln! I like how their tarter sauce doesn't have chunks in it. It's very target. The dad & soon that work here are a phenomenal team. His dad is funny and sweet. He brings the food to all the tables with a smile. The last time we were here, we talked to him about the pictures on the wall of the other Tug Boats. My bff and I have been to several of the other locations, and he used to own them all. I was very impressed! His son is in the back cooking everything to perfection. He does a phenomenal job as well. Accidentally placed a family order for lent last week with wrong tugboat online. When my husband arrived at the tugboat we thought we ordered from there was no order. So I called the incorrect Tugboat to cancel however they would not cancel. Called my bank to stop payment however since I used debit card rather than credit the bank investigated and tried to negotiate with Citrus Heights Tugboat to no avail. So we are out $67+. We have eaten here many times. The food is good. But the past several times we have been disappointed in how we are greeted by the woman who takes your order at the counter. She is very unpleasant and unfriendly. Tonight she was not just unfriendly but rude as well. We where the only ones at the counter. She tried to rush me through my ordering. And then I asked my husband if he wanted a soda. He replied yes, she said 2 sodas. I said wait I might want something else. She tossed the cup at me then I ordered a can soda from their refrigerator case. She gave me my total. It was $24.91. I gave her $25 and she took my change and tossed it in the tip jar right in front of me. I work in a service business myself. I appreciate tips and I always tip. But not this time. We will drive 5 miles out of our way to have fish and chips from now on. We will not patronize this business again. read more
