I had the rockfish, rice, and zucchini. I also had a side of shrimp on a wooden skewer. All that for $18 or so. That's a pretty good deal. The fish tastes good. It wasn't overly fishy and the garlic butter sauce was nice. I wish they would have drizzled more of that sauce. I personally didn't need help figuring out the touch screen but the man working there was very attentive to the person next to me. He helped her make decisions based on the selection on the screen. That was nice as I think the old lady needed it. The shrimp was really good. I kinda wished I bought more of that or just bought the meal. I purposely saved rice to eat with the shrimp. It does remind me of a slight Cajun taste, grilled over a fire. I enjoyed that and I wished I bought more. Instead of just doing a check-in, this place deserved a follow up review to my last review. I was here last week, and really enjoyed it. Since I signed up for their app, I received an offer of a free " everything protein bowl", all I had to do was buy a soda. That was very generous of them. The protein bowl was excellent. It had Cajun shrimp, salmon, swai and grilled chicken. Swai is a soft mellow Asian white fish, which is good either by itself, or it plays very well with other ingredients. There was a generous portion of all of the proteins, everything was very tender, packed with flavor, and so good. This time I had the rice instead of the salad, and I thought that the beans played much better with the rice, than they did with the salad that I had last time. There is also a green tomatillo salsa, , which had just a tiny bit of heat, but again, it was perfect as an addition to the meal. Solid service; greeted and helped upon entering the restaurant. They only had two ordering systems in place and for large groups that aren't familiar with the menu, can take a loooong time. So exercise a bit of patience or go when it's not busy, whenever that is. Nice variety of seafood items. Definitely the place to go for some Omega 3s with the right fish. An hour after opening and they dont have the "flavor bar" or the iced tea out. I asked multiple workers for tea and they said it was brewing... then they couldn't find the nozzles.. I asked about the flavor bar and got a "oh that's not a thing anymore." The restaurant is clean and tidy. There is an ordering menu screen you use here. I don't recommend getting a margarita here unless you like sour, but it was a large pour! The service was friendly. We ordered the fish n chips and the catfish. Yum! The fish n chips was hot and tasty- not too thick of a batter nor was it overly greasy. I'd get it again. Wish it came with a lemon. It came with a packet of malt vinegar and a little dish of tartar sauce. Tasted great! The catfish was so good! We did half Cajun and half garlic sauce- I would recommend all Cajun. My client and I decided to order from California's Fish Grill. As much as I love cooking, my client gave me the night off and we ordered take out! Ordering online was easy. Plus as a welcome gift from California Fish Gril, they give you a shrimp skewer add-on for free! At 6 pm, you can see their name lit up from Sunrise Blvd and on a Thursday night, it was pretty busy. The parking lot was packed and easy to pass up in the dark. So I ended up parking in the next lot over. From the moment I ordered (6pm) until my order was ready (6:25 pm), this restaurant was packed and orders were stacking up. I waited near the front register on a barstool that was too high to lean on, so I hopped up and my feet were barely touching the floor. It smelled SO GOOD in here! The kitchen worked hard and as fast as they could. They were a little behind with my order but I appreciated the quality of their workmenship, rather than throwing out the quantity. Our dinners were packed very nice and nearly stacked. We ordered the salmon and the 3 piece tilapia, both with cauliflower rice and tomato feta with seasoned olive oil. Both fish with the house seasoning, and I got that free sheep skewer! Both dishes were delicious! Both were little on the dry side for both fish. I love the grill taste in both dishes and that's something I can't do at my clients house.. what a treat! I would like to order here again and try their other dishes. We love Grill Fish but tonight we saw a large bug/roach crawling in between the tables. It was large and visible so we got up and told the Manager but he ignored us and disappeared. We love California Fish Grill! It's one of few "fast food" options we are regulars at. This location is always clean and love the variety of seating options. I like that they have self- order kiosks but there's always a friendly crew member nearby to offer assistance. The kids battered fish is great! The batter is delicious and not overly greasy. We did have an issue with the fries being cold but they promptly made new ones for my son. We typically will try their special and we were glad we did on this day! It was the rockfish plate that comes with a pineapple skewer. I preferred the grilled rockfish over the fried option. I felt the fish was too thin and it being fried made it a bit dry. My favorite side is the Brussel sprouts, they are worth the upcharge! I usually get the kale or regular salad. The green goddess dressing is delicious! And pairs well with fish. What a pleasant surprise it is to have a good meal here for a reasonable price. I will admit to being a snob when talking about chain restaurant food. I've had too many mediocre meals at all the big name franchises. California Fish Grill is well above and beyond the usual family friendly dining experiences. I had the catfish classic plate. A giant slab of fish coated with a golden batter and fried perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft , meaty and moist inside. The tasty batter was flavored with the right amount of white pepper. Big side of white ice was also cooked perfectly. The beans are sort'a refried style with a little extra liquid. Flavorful, too. Barbara had the rock cod plate. She got two big fish fillets. Grilled perfectly. Side of riced cauliflower and asparagus. The green stalks were delicious and still had a bit of crunch. This meal made me happy. I purposely skipped breakfast to eat lunch here. Glad that I did as my meal would be large enough to feed two people who have more modest appetites. Being a heathen of course I gobbled it all. For $15.99 this is an incredibly great value. Good food for the price of a big mac combo. If you are a chain restaurant skeptic and have avoided eating here, drop your negative assumption and come to eat. You'll enjoy. We're regulars at California Fish Grill in different locations, and the service here really stood out. The manager was especially kind and helpful. At one point, a staff member from the back noticed I looked a little undecided and came over to help while I was choosing between cocktails. He even offered to show me the cup sizes, which I really appreciated. Also, the tomato feta came with nice thick slices of tomato, which was definitely a plus. read more

Unfortunately when we went, the soda machine was down and all the drinks were watered down. However, when my mom spoke to them we were compensated with caned sodas which was nice of them. Came here with my crew one evening when I didn't want to cook. Everything was delicious. The only reason why I gave 4 stars was because of cuntomer service. When you dine out there is certain level of expected treatment you would hope to receive from restaurant, as a patron. I did not get his name, but pretty sure he was supervisor that night. He was getting the orders as they came from being cooked and pulling them off the counter and organizing the platters out to be deliver to other patrons dining in the restaurant. I came up to the counter and I asked for extra sauce for my fish that was a little dry but still delicious and lemon slices. There were some in the fridge below with in arms reach. He looked at me, did not acknowledge me , did not give me any , instead just continued to do what he was doing. After 3 minutes another employee working the counter had to get it instead. I get it they are busy. A way to help mitigate the problem , is to have a stock out for guests to come up and just help themselves . No need to bother staff unkess something is out. read more

Really enjoy this chain. Have gone to a location in SoCal and 2 in the Northern california area and all have been on par with each other. For a chain the quality has been excellent FOR the price. I like the casual atmosphere without having table service which adds additional tips and operational costs since everything is so expensive these days. The first location I tried was this location in Citrus Heights. We have been here several times and service has always been good, restaurant has always been clean, and food quality has been consistent. And as mentioned good value for the quality and portion. They have good kids meal options for families. The fish and chips has always been a safe bet for those not much into fish dishes, but I felt they have got saltier in recent visits--but still good. We try the different options as there are many and different ways to have them prepared so it's always an opportunity to try a different variation. I feel like they needed to cop out and they added chicken and tenders for those people who go to a seafood/fish restaurant not looking to eat the very thing it specializes in, but thats another topic. This is definitely one of my favorite lunch spots in the Citrus Heights area. Food is always fresh tasting and prepared well. The menu selection is quite extensive. Even though it has the word fish in the name, they do offer other options. One of my favorites being the chicken tacos. There is also easy parking and a friendly staff. There is an employee named Carlos there that always goes out of his way to help me and other guests make sure they are having an enjoyable experience. The only criticism I would have is that this store try's to make customers use a kiosk to place their orders. It really slows down the line when its busy, and its just not a very welcoming feeling overall. Plus the kiosks aren't programmed well, and can be confusing even if your familiar with them. I just wish they would staff people to take your order. This is how Ive gotten to know Carlos, he always is happy to help me and other guests out. California fish grill has been my only stop when I'm craving a nice plate of fresh fish! My family and I frequent here at least twice a month. I'm a creature of habit and always order the large salmon salad (it's large enough to divide into two meals) & the Brussels sprouts on the side. The salmon has never smelt strong and fishy- always fresh and cooked to perfection (a little crispy outside and moist and flaky on the inside). My kids have tried the fried chicken sandwiches- also a favorite in my house. The street corn is amazing as well as the sweet potato fries & the delicious, yet a bit of heat secret sauce they provide! The Swai grilled plate, also delicious, as well as the various fish tacos varying from Cajun, mahi mahi to grilled salmon. I have not once been disappointed with this establishment. I've had some of the finest fish and chips here in the past. Was expecting the flaky, succulent and perfectly fried fish as in the past. Today it was overcooked, mushy and thin slivers of fish. Not sure if it was bad day or if they ran out of theirs and went next door to Pack and Save for the frozen battered fish and fried it in stale oil. This place is pretty good! The fish was definitely fresh, but it's a little pricey for a fast casual restaurant. It was about $60 for two mains, two sides, and two drinks. When you walk up to the counter, they encourage you to order on a digital menu, which is good in its own way. I tend to feel less rushed when there are multiple order stations like this place, opposed to just one person working a register. The food came fairly quick and I do have to say the Ahi Poke Bowl was phenomenal. It was very filling as well. Me and my son both got one and he couldn't even finish his because he was too full (which is rare). The bowl had some good flavors in it and was not too salty like some poke can be. There was a lot of rice in it. I also think it's weird that brown rice costs more. The fire roasted street corn was just alright. I feel like some of the pieces were roasted a little bit too much and had too much char taste. This was my second time visiting this location and the food is always good, but I would go more often if it was slightly more affordable. This is my favorite place to order fish. They have delicious ahi poke bowls, when in season. They also have the most delicious deep fried and battered fish I've ever tasted. This is unfortunate because I don't mean to eat these very often but now I crave them from here. The batter is crunchy and with a buttery flavor. I have tried several fish dishes from here and have been happy each time. I also like that they have a lot of sides to choose from and that they are considerably healthy options. Mobile order and pick up is an added bonus as well. The orders have always been on time and easy to pick up from the shelf. The pricing is very reasonable as well. I am delighted that I decided to give it another chance because I thoroughly enjoyed my meal this time. The salmon salad was exquisite! The combination of salmon, candied walnuts, cranberries, and feta was simply delightful. I also added a side of shrimp, which, to my surprise, was also very delicious. I attended to a training close to this restaurant last week and I'm glad that I stopped by to try this place out. It was very easy and fast to order, and I got their Miso Salmon Avocado Salad and a shrimp skewer. The salad was tasting very good, the ingredients were very fresh. I wish I knew how to make a salad like that. The salmon was very well cooked, really really good. The service was great, the staff were very attentive and helpful. First time and went for lunch on a Friday. Not crowded at 12:30. Good location right off Sunrise in Citrus Heights (near Madison). Very nice indoor and large outdoor seating. Very clean and bright. We were warmly greeted and asked if this was our first time. Since we were paying via CC we could use the self-order kiosk. Our cheerful greeter walked us through the entire process and was very helpful showing various selections and how we could customize each of our entrees with sides of our choice. Some sides are an extra charge. Overall I thought the price point was reasonable for what we received. We self-served our drinks at the fountain and made our way to a 4 top table. There is both regular and high-top seating. Again, very clean. The wait time seemed reasonable for scratch cooking fish and shrimp. I received a text on my phone when our order was ready. They were also calling out names. I ordered the fried catfish platter with fries and the street corn (upcharge). Sweetie ordered fried Swai and shrimp with sweet potato fries and the brussels (both were upcharges). My catfish was piping hot and a nice sized filet and was cooked perfectly. The taste was a bit milder than I am used to but okay. The fish filet is laid on top of the fries and unfortunately i discover too late that the steam from the fish made my fries soggy. The corn was generous but was not to my taste, Sweeties Swai arrived super hot and consisted of two nice sized filets. The fish was tasty (mild) but the cornstarch crust was too thick and hard. There were 5 or 6 slightly sweet tail less shrimp with a nice batter. Sweet potato fries were good and while the brussels sauce and taste was excellent the brussels were hard and needed additional cooking. Tartar sauce was almost tasteless, ranch was okay but the cocktail sauce was good with a bit of horseradish kick. Overall I really liked everything about the place except I thought the food could be improved. More taste in the catfish, fix the hard batter on the Swai and cook the brussels. The staff member who helped us check-in also stopped by our table and brought us extra silverware and more sauce. She is a KEEPER! read more

If you have cash, let them know so they can take your order, as the kiosks they want you to order from are card only. Also be advised they don't take any bills larger than $20.
