I was really craving fish tacos last week and luckily this little shop is less than a mile from my office. It's in what feels/looks like an abandon center but it was worth the struggle to find! I ordered the fish tacos about 10 minutes ahead and they were ready to go when I arrived. The fish was suuuper crunchy and packed with sow and cabbage. I asked for extra sauce on the side and I'm glad I did; their chipotle mayo is rich and creamy and so delicious with the toasted tortilla and crunchy fish. The restaurant is fairly small though and it was a bit warm when I entered. Great spot for intimate meals. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and friendly. read more

Oh Bento is a fairly new, local casual restaurant that serves a variety of fish and chips, grilled seafood, and other like eats. It replaced the former Wave Fish and Chips just a little over a year ago. It is a fast casual eatery located off a busy street in the city of Carmichael. We actually came here looking for Wave Fish and Chips and discovered it had changed to Oh Bento. The owner was very welcoming and even honored a coupon we had for the prior establishment. We got 2 orders of the beer battered cod fish, one with Parmesan garlic fries and one with fresh skin on sweet potato fries. Each order was $10. For dips, we chose the tartar sauce and the roasted garlic aioli. We decided to dine outside as they had a few tables set up and a very warm heat lamp. On a cold December night, the heat lamp felt awesome. When the food came out, we tried the fried fish and really enjoyed them with the dipping sauces. The tartar sauce was great for the fried fish, but the garlic aioli was surprisingly amazing! I was really impressed and used it for the fries and some of the fish. We noticed they accidentally gave us regular French fries instead of parmesan garlic, but we were okay with it. The fries were good and the sweet potato fries were even better. The owner was super nice and made sure we really enjoyed our meal. He provided really good customer service. We definitely enjoyed dining out at this new local restaurant. I would definitely recommend Oh Bento if you are in the mood for fish and chips or other fried or grilled seafood. The prices are reasonable, portions are good (great for fries), and it's great to support small businesses during these times. They have takeout and provide sanitizer. read more

Yeah these new owners aren't anything like the old owners at all!! Me and my family came here after a long trip and we thought this place was gonna be better then Tugboats judging by their old reviews (with the previous owners), but when we got in there it was very sketchy. There was a little boy watching the TV that was inside which was interesting, flies runnin around everywhere, and the smell in there was TERRIBLE! When the little boy saw us he ran into the kitchen and the "Cashier" came out. He gave us a greeting and showed us the menu... There was 3 of em. We finally chose our food: Fish N Chips x2 and we had ordered it to-go which we had to repeat three times just so the cashier could understand. The food was extremely expensive and it was not worth it. The ETA on the food was 10 minutes... That turned into a unpleasant 49 minutes. While waiting in there it was just me and that little boy watching his youtube because my family couldn't wait anylonger with the sketch ambiance and I really cant blame them. I wish I had photos of the food but I dont. The fish looked like it was microwaved, the frys were HEAVILY peppered down, like so much pepper to the point some fries were fully drenched in pepper. The lemon was tasteless I didn't taste anything after putting it on the fish so (dumb idea) I decided to juice it on my tounge and it was straight bitter. Mentioned in a review I read (post visiting) I had seen that the ketchup packets had ketchup stains, and so did mine. I would not recommend coming here. I hate writing bad reviews in general because I hate complaining, but I need to address their terrible quality control of the food. Came here with my friends initially thinking that it was still under old management not realizing that it is now under new management and the menu/ food totally changed. Since we were already there, we decided to give it a try anyway. We ordered some wings, fries, calamari, popcorn shrimp and the stuffed mushrooms. Nothing special in taste just your regular deep fried foods. The fries tasted the best out of everything we ordered but even then I will rate it only a 4/10...Yes, it's that bad... Now, the most disappointing thing are the wings. There was no wings...it was all drumsticks...the worst part was that it was UNCOOKED! We could of gotten sick (or even died...ok, that's a bit too dramatic...but still) if we ate that! Blood was leaking from the chicken and had left a tiny pool of blood inside the to-go plate. How can the cook just placed uncooked chicken onto a to-go box for the customer? Can they not see the blood dripping from the chicken??? Very disappointed and will never go back. Make sure to check your food to see if it is thoroughly cooked if you want to try this place. I hope they start checking their food before serving it. We were nice enough to not had called, go back to complained for our money back or report them, but if this is how they have been serving their food then sooner or later their place will be shut down. I'm guessing the 4.5 stars for this place was because of all the reviews received for the previous owner. My wife found this place as "Oh Bento" with 4.5 stars on Yelp so we were really looking forward to trying this place out by ordering to-go. Upon arrival, I should have heed all the warning signals with this place before commiting. My gripes with this place: 1. There were 3 different signs/menus with different prices that's really confusing. The cashier let me play a game called pick a price.. any price from the menu. lol (not joking) 2. The waiter/cashier/food prep guy (yep, it's one person) got our order wrong 3 times. Should have known when he didn't write down my order. 3. Although I was their number 1 customer (only person in the restaurant), the food took almost an hour to be ready. ETA for the 1st batch of food was 15 mins which was on time so you can do the math on how long the food should take. :( 4. Dry ketchup stains on the packets of ketchup? Seriously? Makes me question their level of cleanliness. 5. Food was done and I ready to pay. The cashier billed me on prices from menu# 2 and menu# 3. I thought we had already established that we're going with menu# 2? Given the situation, I kept the faith that the food would be worth it. I believe the name on the receipt was "Abduls". I'm sorry but rancid cooking oil, and 3 menus all with different prices are not very appealing. The fish was practically tasteless but the flavor of the rancid oil it was cooked in was present in every bite. UGH read more

Never finished the review, but had been excited to come back. It was a four star review that started like this: "Rare for there to be places that just tick the boxes with a smile. I stopped by this place about 7:40 p.m., Thursday 5/12. Ordered shrimp tacos, calamari, and fried cod with fries. First off, I was overcharge for everything. Their menu list, shrimp tacos for $7, I was charge $9, calamari list $6, I was charged $7, and fish/chips was listed $10 when I was charge $13. Everything item was disappointing and barely edible. The shrimp tacos had one crispy burnt shrimp on each taco loaded with cabbage and serve on ice cold tortilla. The calamari has a total of 7 pieces, 2 were whiskers, and all burnt! As for the fish, I took one bite and ended up tossing the rest of my food. Woke up with the runs in the morning. I have no idea how this place received more than one star. I truly hope they're much better at their entrees. My wife and I wanted a literal midnight snack. We found this restaurant and we were very hopeful about it. We ordered two of their appetizers and came up short on both items. The crab-stuffed mushrooms are a combination of imitation crab and a mix of other ingredients that leave a lot to be desired. I will give credit that the mushrooms were actually good. The calamari were a rubbery disaster. I'm guessing they are frozen based on the quality but obviously can't prove it. I am so disappointed. We've eaten here before and enjoyed the food a lot. We ordered through door dash. Because of circumstances, we put in the order at 4 to be delivered at 7. The food arrived ice cold. It had clearly been prepared at least an hour before the delivery, maybe even longer, and not kept warm. We live less than 5 minutes from the restaurant and the driver took only 5 min from restaurant to house, so this was all on the restaurant. Even with reheating, the food quality was poor because it had sat so long. Very soggy fries. Cold food. Blah. Edited to add: business owner has said they will refund due to their mistake. As of now (24 hours later) this has not happened. No refund to either my card or my door dash account. I will believe it when I get the money. Edited (#2)- It's now 4 days later. Although the owner said they would refund our dinner because of the poor service (entire meal was prepared hours before delivery and not kept warm)--- no refund has come to us. Not on my card. Having said that, we tried Oh Bento and were well pleased. The service was excellent. The Beer battered fish was fresh and very tasty. We had the sweet potato fries (which were very well done with seemed like sea salt on the ) and a side of coleslaw. Everything was great and we will return to sample some other things on the menu. Love this place. Its a great hole in the wall with amazing food. It doesn't look impressive and you should be prepared to wait. Its small family owned. Its worth it. The cauliflower is the best I've ever had. I never knew it could taste like that. The wings, spring rolls, fish and chips were all incredible. Placed an order here this evening through Yelp (aka Grubhub) for some fish tacos (La Ola) and fried ice cream (yes folks, this is a thing!). First off, don't listen to the ETA Grubhub gives. The service here is very friendly and inviting. And the inside of the establishment is very clean and cute. With a cute, handwritten menu that appears to change often, added with some cheerful (and very well drawn) cartoons and other food/drink items. There is a whole row of different condiments at the counter to choose from (quite an extensive selection), and while waiting for my order, I saw a wheel with lots of menu items written on it that I'm assuming is for some game. The fish tacos themselves were tasty. And the fried ice cream wasn't bad. However as much as I really wanted to love it, none of the food was really that memorable. After a night at the Drive-in, I was scrolling through Yelp as the movie approached its end to see food spots in the area. "Oh Bento" showed up twice in my feed so I decided to give them a try. Where there's rice, and french fries on the menu, I will be there. I ordered via grub hub for pick up, and it was 15 mins from my location. The movie ended five minutes later, and we were on our way! I decided to order their "crumb chicken wing meal" which came with a side of choice, 4 wings, two drumsticks (even though it advertised all wings), and a dipping sauce of your choice. I got the fries as a side which were seasoned with a slightly sweet, and savory concoction. The wings had a katsu type crust which was still so crispy when we finally got home! I also ordered a side order of rice, because that's how I roll. It was so light and fluffy, and buttered! I had to give the fish tacos a try as well. The fish by itself was really good, but whatever slaw they put on top of it was drenched in a thousand island type dressing that I did not enjoy. Maybe just the fish and chips next time. This will be my new fish taco place. My experience from the beginning. I will admit I was leary about this place because the location. But I walked in to see the giant Chalkboard with funny names for the different ways to have fish, shrimp, appetizers, and deserts. Then i looked on the counter and saw a row of house made sauces ( try them all. The orange was my favorite) i was excited to try them all. As I was sitting and waiting for my food a sample plate of their house made chips arrived at my table . My fish taco was covered in crisp cabbage and bright red tomatos. As great as the food is the thing that pushed it over the top for me was not that they had lime water but they had lime and strawberry water. Wow wow wow!!! My husband has been wanting to try this place out. Finally he picked up to go and let Me tell you.... ahhh-mazing. We ordered a grilled sea bass, fried calamari, sweet and spicy Brussel sprouts and fish tacos. The fish tacos were amazing and huge! A large amount of fish and a nice spice to it. The Brussels sprouts were so delicious and loved the sweet and hot of spice. I wasn't the biggest fan of the calamari just was to my liking but my husband loved it. What a great addition to Carmichael. This place has a small menu with nothing but FRESH fish. So good that I took half the batter off. They actually season their fish in the fish and chips!
