Best Thai food in the Metroplex. Their food is not premade. I know this for a fact. I can not eat Spicy Hot foods. My food is served "no spice". We have never had a bad experience either with the food or the service. The prices are excellent and the servings are large. The noise level is conducive to conversation and relaxation. This is a really friendly and nice place to eat out with friends. I went with two other people, we split two meals and an appetizer and we left totally stuffed. We ordered the pad Thai and Siam noodles along with dumplings. The dumplings were by far my favorite thing. The flavoring is amazing and even though they're small they pack a mean punch full of flavor. I seriously have not stopped craving them since having them. The staff is very nice and personable as well. Our waitress was very sweet and hard working. If you walk in and see the waitress with different colored glasses that's her. Been a few months since I've had Thai food. My daughter, who is vegan, was in town and we thought we would try it out. It's tucked away in a small corner mall behind a 7-11, so keep your eyes open. The decor, the menus, and even the music seemed to transport us there. The waiter was very quick to seat and serve us. I ordered Tom Kha soup and the Pannang curry. Both were excellent and had a better flavor that I'd remembered. Familiar, but not generic tasting. We both ordered with tofu and it was served fried on the sides and soft in the middle; our favorite. The portions were more than ample and the waiter even boxed them up for us. First off, Tukta Thai is such a beautiful little gem tucked away in a little strip shopping center in Lake Highlands. It's been in the same place, run by the same family, for 19 years. The ornate Thai artwork, pops of color and beautiful portraits cover the entire restaurant, ceiling to floor. It's a very comfy restaurant and would be perfect for a casual date night. For starters we ordered the Egg Rolls....Very Good, & Tom Kha Soup....it's Lemongrass Soup w/ Coconut Milk, Straw Mushrooms, Onion & Cilantro.....Yum! I then ordered the Pineapple Curry Shrimp (They're very generous w/ the shrimp, btw.)....WOW, it's so delicious! I look forward to ordering that dish again. Hubby & Daughter ordered the Red Curry w/ Chicken.....it was a hit! The menu is extensive. Our server, Johnny, was helpful & pleasant. We look forward to our next visit to Tukta Thai. I found a great Thai place in Lake Highlands!! BYOB, the interior is filled to the brim with gold mirrors and pictures of important Asian leaders in days gone by. You get to sit in a soft, cushy chair that is oh so comfortable. The food is really great. I had the Kuai Tiao Hang which is made with rice noodle, fried wonton, peanuts, green onion and cilantro. It was excellent. If you use their spicy vinegar sauce to pour on your dish get prepared for the waterworks because it is HOT. Luckily they are always prepared to re-fill your water glass. My friend loves this place because their expansive menu comes with pictures of each dish. And the guy who greets you always has a smile on his face and says, "How are youuuuuuuuuuu?" Love. read more

I went there for the first time tonight and will likely not return. The service was appalling and the food mediocre. The pad thai was far too sweet and the green curry, although suitably spicy, was bland and didn't taste like much. My curry was forgotten in the kitchen while the other diner's pad thai got cold and we had to wait 20 minutes after we'd boxed my leftover curry for someone to realize we'd never been given a cheque. Reading some of these other reviews makes me think that people just need a fancy armchair to give a place a good rating. Try Thai Soon in Richardson for some good Thai. Or Thairriffic. read more

Great Lake Highlands Thai! I had been wanting to try this place for quite sometime as the reviews and my friends said it's good...they were right! Positives: It was nice and quiet and the food was really good. Our server was very nice, and it wasn't too crowded, but there were enough people there to make you feel like it was doing good business. I tried a yellow curry with noodles for the first time and it was excellent! I could not stop eating it! My husband got the Pad Thai and was very pleased as well. Steamed dumplings were perfect. BYOB Negatives: The reviews had said to order our appetizer and then when it came order our entrees. This was great advice, however, my husband got his entree well before I did (a good 5-10 minutes) which was a little awkward because he wanted to wait for me, but didn't want his food to get cold. Kind of strange. As for the decor..yes, it's totally out there, but I've never been to a Thai restaurant that isn't decorated a bit crazy. Just want to add this to everyone else's sentiments: If you want HOT, you can get it here. I am *always* looking for the hottest and spiciest possible food. My kitchen cabinets are full of various ethnic incarnations of nuclear-style hotness. I got my dish here with a "4" out of 5 stars on hotness. Would've gotten 5 but I'd never been here before and I wanted to actually be able to taste the food first. Let me just say that the 4 practically kicked my a$$. Its sad that I'm writing THIS about TUKTA. I have been coming to this nice lil spot for about 4 years....a local staple , Thai food on this side of the lake, family vibe, nice little china and traditional Thai decor. The food was always great, and affordable. BUT I went in there not too long ago, and they had raised the prices, and the food was very very VERY sub par. I was so dis appointed. you pay around $6 -7 for 2 tiny spring rolls cut in half. The pad thai had no flavor, and when we asked the spice tray or some chili sauce, they kind of grimaced like they didn't want to give it to us w/o charging us. We were not satisfied, and 2 dishes that were just edible, horrible pad thai, and we spent $35? Sorry Tukta, I will drive all the way to fitzhugh and Capitol for Thai noodle, even, before wasting $$ on you again. SO disappointed! I loved that spot. You should give this place a try if you like Thai food. No offense intended to the strip mall that houses it, but if I had not been invited to Tukta Thai by a beautiful woman, I might never have given it a shot. I am so glad that I did. I love this place. It is one of my favorite Thai places in Dallas and I am always happy with the food I get here. I am not afraid to give one-star ratings, so please believe me when I say, this place is under-rated on Yelp. I have been here a LOT and it has been great every time. There have been many times when we talk about how good the food was the next day...and the next. If you like wine with your dinner, the BYOB policy here makes that a very affordable option. I like heat, so I usually ask for one more star than they offer me, e.g., if they say "1 to 4 stars" I say "5!" That usually works at Thai places for me, and it works here too! :-) The service we have had here has always been good to great. To go orders have been great too. This place is not upscale, but neither is it a sterile little room filled with tables. Nestled amongst mundane businesses in a your average, ubiquitous DFW shopping center, this restaurant exceeds your expectations with ornate Thai artwork and portraits covering inch of every wall and surface. The Tom Ka soup isn't the best I've had l, but was dressed with tender chicken and the broth was on the lime-y side. The pork dumplings were tasty and the perfect pop-in-your-mouth portion, while the corn fritters serve as a wonderful shared appetizer, as well. Ok, so this is a short review but I want to get the stars posted as they are overdue. I LOVE this place! Located in an unassuming strip mall in Garland, the atmosphere upon entry is surprisingly wonderful and homey. With rolling highbacked chairs in some areas, it feels as though you are nestled in a library with a good book or old friend and some tea and mouthwatering food. Their menu has pictures of every dish they serve which is a beautiful feast for the eyes and elicits much anticipation as you wait for them to deliver your meal. Their Tofu Pad See Ew is incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection, their servers are constantly refilling any ordered hot tea and their service is warm, welcoming and prompt. The other dishes I have sampled were also high quality and seasoned just right. Tukta is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it! Cons: Their new menus are a bit ridiculous...just wait until you get there as they are large, cartooney and out of place. I love Tukta, simple as that. The food is delicious, inexpensive and, hello, BYOB(W)! The corn fritters and steamed dumplings are a must for apps. Entrees are served family-style, so I've been able to have a little bit of everything. I like the spicy Thai Country (or something along those lines, just chicken and vegetables but tasty), any curry dish and of course pad thai. It's the least greasy pad thai I've had in Dallas with the perfect amount of sweetness. Other reviewers aren't kidding when they say to stick with 3 out of 5 on spiciness... 4 is clear-your-sinuses spicy and I put sriracha on pretty much everything. The location from the outside is pretty sketchy but inside you'll find a clean and cozy atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and won't rush you if you want to linger over the 3 bottles of wine you brought for you and your lover or friend. There's some kind of golf putting thing hidden behind the ginormous fish tank, but I've never seen anyone use it...? If bringing your own booze and delicious food is not enough, this place is also perfect for you first time Thai-ers... they have pics of all the entrees along with a description. Mi esposa and I recently made the long move from Knox-Henderson to Lake Highlands (ie. 15 minutes). Our only fear about the new hood was finding new neighborhood gems. Well, we have been here three weeks now and already have our second regular haunt.(the first being Good-to-Go Taco) Tukta Thai is excellent. First, the service is the best. There is nothing like the feeling of a family-owned place and the service they bring. However, it is the food that is the real treat. We went with the best steamed pork dumplings either of us have ever eaten. Oh, we were fans of Green Papaya, The Mint & Asian Mint to give you an idea of our tastes. We shared the traditional pad thai and not-so-trad pad pra ram (chicken, fresh spinach and peanut sauce). Both were light and fresh with the perfect balance of flavor and texture. I dusted the pad thai with red chili pepper and a few squeezes of lime and could not quit eating. The pra ram was so fresh annd the peanut sauce was not overpowering. Bad thai always seems to over-sweeten and over-flavor their sauces. Not the case here. Perfect balance. Tukta Thai is where it's at! So much so, that I always find time to eat here while I'm in town visiting my parents. It's down the street, it's BYOB, it's cheap, and best of all, delicious. I always get corn fritters to start (OMG. The peanut sauce) and Massaman curry which I can never finish thanks to the insanely huge portion. I took my brother here based on the rave Yelp reviews because we both love our neighborhood Thai restaurant back home. But I was pretty disappointed. It seems good if it's your only neighborhood Thai place, but I sure won't return. ...Well, maybe just for the coconut ice cream The star of the show was the Tom kha soup. It was the perfect heat. But the lemongrass and other inedibles were cut up so small they were hard to avoid - I kept pulling plastic feeling pieces out of my mouth. The same with my crazy noodles. The pieces of hot peppers just felt like plastic. It's the basic spicy basil large flat noodles you can find at any Thai restaurant. But the spiciness was perfect. I ordered it medium-spicy and it was a solid medium. Steamed pork dumplings were average. My brother ordered the massaman curry medium & we both thought it definitely wasn't spicy enough although he ordered it medium. I thought it was way too sweet. Coconut ice cream is definitely something to try. Order your own, it's only a scoop per serving. read more

I have been eating this family's food since they opened the restaurant. In fact, since before the actual restaurant opened. Two staples, which define Thai cuisine in the U.S., the Chicken Satay appetizer with house sauce and Phad Thai, are, hands down, the best you are going to find, and not only in North Texas. Most importantly, not only were the dishes absolutely fantastic the first round, way back in the 90s, they have been consistently excellent every time they've been ordered. I've named common thai street food, but let's not stop at staples. The pad pra ram, chicken cashew nut, pad ped-I've sampled nothing that has been anything less than haute quality, at the most humble prices, and the service is always, and consistently humble, deferent, and cheerful. The seafood, whoever their poissonier, is as impeccable as anything you'll find this far inland. Being this far inland, and reasonably priced, it is assumed that it isn't fresh catch of the day. Yet, every time I've gone that route, I have never been disappointed, and it is always consistent. I have yet to ask to meet the chef, in over twenty years, or ask to tour the kitchen as a colleague, but it's somewhat intimidating, to be honest. Quite simply put, nobody I've sampled has anything on the consistency and quality of this unsung hero. The Thai Iced Tea here may be the best beverage I have ever indulged in, and I never order anything else. The only thing I find objectionable is the rather tacky decor, though that can be potentially be dismissed if one cares to inquire as to the history of the framed individuals. I had a bit of a strange experience here. My friend recommended this place, so I showed up with a small group. I really wish I had known that 99% of business here is via takeout. We were the only ones sitting in an oddly decorated little joint. While we were sitting (~45 minutes), there had to have been 40 people enter, order food, and leave with their orders. It felt wrong (and oddly formal) sitting down. That said, the food was excellent. I got the pad see ew and have no regrets. The people I was with were also happy with their orders. My favorite dishes, thus far, have been the Thai Country Hot & Spicy. It's really not that spicy unless you tell them the star level of want you want. Decent thai food--$8 lunch. The service was kind of slow. I appreciated that the menu had pictures to go with each selection, as I am horrible at remembering what foods I like. I happened to go on a day when they were celebrating their new year, and there were all these people in bright robes chanting. That was interesting!
