    The wifey buying! Buying!

WOW! and that's in capital letters. What a find is this place. No kidding on this review. This is the BEST turkey sandwich I've had. And you can checkout all my previous reviews and I've had some amazing sandwiches before. And the wifey loved! loved! her turkey plate. And the place is a shop too, so many cool things to get. And lastly, service and people are super nice. Clean too.

Max and I are in Texas for a few weeks and have passed this place almost every day on our way to the antique show we are doing. Left the show early to try this place and we were not disappointed!! Best sauerkraut I have ever eaten!! The stewed cabbage excellent as was just about everything else we had. The service also spot on. They even gave us to go cups of tea. What?!! Thanks so much!!

    Bread pudding was good

Well well...this was a nice surprise! We visited years ago, and it wasn't anything special. We stopped by on our way back from a martial arts event in Houston. This time, it was such a great meal, for a great price, that I struggled to find negative items. I have to review the whole establishment, not just the restaurant itself. We got the buffet. It's not a buffet with tons of items. The items they did offer, were great! You get very full fast, not very many light items, unless you just get salad. Who gets salad at a buffet? Exactly.! We got roasted chicken, sausage, fried chicken, sausage, turkey breast, beef tips in gravy, rice, corn, macaroni salad, peach cobbler, and bread pudding. No complaints really on the food. Nothing was dry, and it was well seasoned! The sausage was the only thing we didn't like, just lacked flavor. Super affordable too! I love that! The big hit was the peach cobbler for me. I'm not a fan of it in general. I love when I give it foods another shot, and I get my mind changed! This one was awesome! The staff was super friendly and attentive! The negatives are for the place itself. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting! We said nope, we will hold it till bucceees. The store also makes no sense, and honestly seems extremely dated and the layout makes no sense. Also, there are not tons of items to choose in the buffet. Maybe we got lucky today, I was told they change items regularly. You're fine if you just eat here! I would eat here again if on the road and hungry!

Service was great. BBQ brisket was a little better than Buckee's bbq brisket sandwich. it was about 15% fat which is how I like it. it was a little tough or more drier on the end which is to be expected. I could smell the "smoked" meat some. It is between lunch and dinner. Maybe it would have been better at lunch or dinner. I love a good tender brisket. This was probably an 8 out of 10 on the tenderness side.

Some of the best chicken n' dumplings that I have ever had!!
    Rad F.

There was delicious chicken n' dumplings, with soft, delicate noodles and a delectable, dainty sauce. The sausage was very tasty, it paired up perfectly with the sauerkraut. The actual restaurant is very clean and was built in 1969, still going strong! Our waitress, Renita, was so kind and she brought out my food in less than a minute! The ladies at the register were very helpful and kind, as well as understanding. The hostesses who worked near the buffet were very funny as well, making this experience amazing. There were no flies at the buffet, and all the food was fresh and hot! There was no limit on the amounts of desserts you picked out from the buffet either. My iron-deficient member of the party enjoyed the square ice. They said that it was the fourth best ice that they ever bit into. They welcome people of all ages and genders, and are very sweet!! 10/10 place, I absolutely recommend!!

Found this spot on the way to the coast and it was a winner for sure....Can you say breakfast buffet...flashing back to Joey in Vegas...The service is exactly what you expect from an old school place....super sweet and friendly...Love the looks inside and out...also have a nice little store with various knick knacks....The food was outstanding and seriously some of the Best Bacon we have had...period.....Everything on the Buffet was fresh and hot...on the permanent radar for us.

    Sooooo tender and delicious

Food and service were wonderful. I liked most everything there. Not a fan of the BBQ sauce but other than that loved it all.

Our Tuesday brunch at Sunken Gardens:…read more Dude. Delicious is not enough to describe the food and drink. Here's how it works. It's a buffet style of delicacies but they charge by the pound. It was $7.99/lb. Put what you want on your plate. There's so much to choose from. You can have it to stay or there's to-go containers. There's cold and hot options and plenty of entrees. Dessert is limited to cobblers. I highly recommend the sweet and spicy beef, the catfish, and the jalapeño-cheese beefsteak. Same goes for the tuna salad, crab salad, and zucchini salad. The pasta salad I could give or take because it was al dente. Wife had the meatloaf and it was gooood. Same goes for the chicken strips. The sides were all freshly made (macaroni, rice, etc), and we weren't disappointed with any of it. The rolls were also good but not sweet or anything. They were basic, but that was a good thing because I didn't want anything competing with the food flavors. We also got some cobblers (one pecan and one blackberry, but there were others). I prefer crispy cobbler and this one was doughy and dense. Some like it that way though. I will say that the flavor was good and refreshing, despite being dense. Despite having indulged ourselves at the neighboring Friday's the night before (see previous review), we woke up famished. Having no food available at Shinerville Coffeehouse (see review because they were so nice and even pointed us here), we wound up eating at the Garden. It turned out to be a great experience. At $8 a pound plus $2 for drinks and a tip, we paid around $40, but our plates were laden from side to side. We greedily ate all of it. I forgot about the mozzarella spinach. Get that. Drink options were typical sodas and four ice teas, or (free?) fruit-infused water from a cistern. The teas were also in cisterns. There were four options: a red unsweetened eucalyptus tea that I liked, unsweetened, sweetened, and peach. We got the peach. There's only to-go cups and refills are free, so you're welcome to take some for the road. The atmosphere: Inside it was cool and crisp. The noise level was moderately low and they had good music. Blackbird was playing at one point. Being that it was such a nice day, we opted to eat on the covered wrap around porch that overlooked the Spoetzl Brewery. Btw (in terms of distance) with a good driver and the wind at my back, I could hit the brewery with a golf ball from the parking lot of this place. The restrooms were unisex, as you'd expect for a small establishment like this, and very clean. The people: Staff were excellent, accommodating and knowledgeable. The manager took the time to speak to me for a bit in between rushes, but a wave of people came in so I didn't hold her up. Back on the porch, a young male staff member engaged us in some more conversation and we spoke a bit about Texas history. He is very, very proud of our state and our history - both eager to share and learn. On our way out I met a cook named Mike (easy for me to remember). He was tossing a box with a cool dragon graphic and let me keep it. He also let me fill our carrying-sized igloo with ice. Mike is ex-military like me and it was fun swapping "war stories." He started cooking when he was in the military and is a native Shiner (I gotta figure out what they call the denizens of Shiner). The patrons were also very nice and easily exchanged pleasantries and held doors for one another, which is one of the coolest parts about being a Texan - but is especially so in Shiner. Friendly and unintrusive is the best I can describe. We left full and satisfied in many ways. The pictures are of some cool views I saw. One is their electrical boxes outside, which are painted uniquely, despite being outside of clear view. Just another example of the grooviness that's the prevalent, unspoken expectation of the township. It really speaks to the spirit of the town. We also took pictures of our food before we devoured it.

The restaurant is cafeteria-style, with everything priced at $8.99 per pound, which we didn't expect but ended up working great for our family since everyone could choose exactly what they wanted. The food tasted homemade, and the salad bar was especially impressive with lots of fresh options. The chicken tenders were a big hit with the kids, and we couldn't resist trying the cherry cobbler for dessert, which was delicious. If you're passing through Shiner and looking for a casual, satisfying meal, this is a great stop.

It's one of those places that's reliable and feels pretty consistent, knowing you're going to leave happy and full after eating here. The two times we've been there, theres always plenty of seating and are able to walk right in. It's a walk in and seat yourself experience and then you pay upon leaving. The staff keeps the dining area and buffet line consistently stocked and clean. They even provide hand sanitizer and gloves for you. Even when foot traffic picked up while we were there, the food was replenished quickly and didn't look picked over. Now let's talk food...Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and like it was made with care instead of just being "buffet food" an under seasoned. The variety is also amazing, and it's easy to build a plate for pretty much any type of diet whether you're keto, high protein, balanced, veggie-forward, vegan, etc... Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. For the quality, variety and amount of food you get, this is easily one of the best deals in the city! It's rare to find a buffet that's both affordable and consistently this good! If I had one small wish, it would be for desserts to match how strong the rest of the food is. They're not bad, just a little more "fine" compared to how amazing everything else is. I've seen another Dimassi's (I think in Cali) that had a frozen yogurt machine and I'd LOVE to see that here because it would be the perfect finish! Make a cup and then crumble up some baklava on it! Overall we've LOVED it here and we'll absolutely keep coming back! Great food, clean, consistent, and worth it every time!

But the stars of my plate that got the 4th star were the potato salad and the banana pudding. Potato salad was glorious texture, temperature, just the right amount of tang from a mustard and pickle vinegar element, rustic with red potato rind, the right amount of cracked black pepper and I would have liked to have eaten on that for days!! The banana pudding was just right. Like straight from grandma's kitchen - perfect texture, flavor, a fresh banana slice buried inside, and a softened vanilla wafer garnish. I love that you could get it as a side with my plate. Also would have liked a Giant margarine container of that in the fridge to eat on all weekend.
