We patroned this establishment today with my husband and toddler. Upon entrance we were greeted warmly by the concierge and greeted again by another nice gentleman, unsure of his name. Establishment was very kempt, service prompt. Our waiter was kind, and the food we ordered was divine! My husband ordered the 2 piece white with a side of macaroni and collards. I ordered the dark 2 piece with the same sides as he. We ordered the appetizer as well, the fries with the queso, chicken and butter pickles, and OH MY GOD! We've been here a couple times in the past month. Always nice service and hits our fried Chicken Craving. What we have ordered or tried: Lil OG, 1/4 White and Dark plate. Deviled Eggs, Dirty Fries, Mac N cheese, Coleslaw, and Buttermilk Pie. Taste: Chicken is crispy and juicy. You can customize your spice level. Sides are great. My boyfriend sticks with the Mac and I do fries and coleslaw. Get the buttermilk pie. Apps were good to try, but we omitted it on the second visit. Great food, great service. Ordered a two piece chicken with the 4th level of heat. Pretty good... the slaw was good but the fries tasted as if they were sitting around a bit. Drive thru with no menu or ordering area except at the pickup window so no chance to see the menu or prices in advance of ordering Apparently not a new restaurant but didn't appear that the inside was open or otherwise had no customers. This was 12:30pm - lunchtime. Ordered 6 chicken tenders, which were decent sized but greasy. Spice level was 2 and had a good kick. Boxed with a few sweet pickle slices and 2 slices of white bread in the bottom of the box - apparently to catch the grease. Likely spice was added and returned to the fryer. Breading was falling off on the pieces that were sitting on the bread. Bread was not the "Texas Toast" offered by other franchises. It was inedible. Not the greatest.,Signature dipping sauce was just ok. Other order was 6 bone-in chicken at spice level 5 of 6 also boxed with white bread in the bottom and a few sweet pickle slices. Very spicy. Bread was soaked with grease and falling apart. A very small container of Cole slaw came with the bone in order. It was tasteless and not worth doctoring up at home. Ordered two drinks - 1 alcoholic and the total exceeded $50 - wow! Obviously not a "meal" since it's just chicken which we weren't expecting. Would have gone elsewhere had we known. The food is absolutely awesome. My only issue is the hostess sent me to the bar to order. After ordering I waited outside for the 15 minutes I was told. I came back in and stood at the bar for another 20 minutes only to be told the To go orders are picked up at the metal counter near the pies. Put up much bigger signs or tell us where to go. I specifically asked the guy behind the counter after I'd been waiting for about 35 minutes about the bags behind the counter. He tells me that those are pies. My favorite Austin fried chicken spot! For me, the additional flavors and spice elevates T22 to the top spot past other known places in the area. There is something about the rich, moist, kind of sweet, spicy layer under the crispy skin that makes all of my worries go away while I'm biting into the chicken. I loved T22 pre-COVID. Granted, during the middle of quarantine I got a big takeout order with my friends. It was utterly disappointing. I almost lost faith, thinking "is this it? The end of the T22 reign in my heart?" Alas, all my friends decided they wouldn't eat T22 after that first try for them. I was sad that the chicken wasn't to par that time. I didn't go again until last month, it was busy as ever since restrictions were lifted. And the chicken was delicious. I was in love all over again. Happy to be hopeful that the one quarantine experience was just an off day, and their chicken is better than ever now. The coleslaw was the worst sour and very salty. The chicken was supposed to be flavored hot but the hottest part was the sauce on the piece of bread at the bottom of the box. Service was quick for a call in order to go. The guy read back my order and was very courteous. That's it for me it wasn't chicken enough for me. I was surprised to see that they added an additional heat level, I've had their previous hottest chicken and it just wasn't enough. I ordered the Dang Hot Chicken Tenders with Fries. I love spicy food, so I didn't want to set any unrealistic expectations with their newest heat level haha. The chicken was pretty good! Compared to my friend's delicious and juicy chicken sandwich, my tenders were a little dry. The ranch on the side definitely helped though. The fries were too thin for my liking. Honestly, 2 tenders is enough food, each tender is about 5 ounces of chicken, so order 3 if you're okay with leftovers and be sure to reward them in the air fryer! The chicken here at Tumble 22 is spectacular. They specialize in Nashville style hot chicken, and boy, does it get hot. My wife first introduced me to Tumble 22 after bringing home an OG Chicken Sandwich. It was easily one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Way better than your average Chick Fil A or Popeye's chicken sandwich. The juiciness, spice, crispiness, flavor, and just overall quality are miles ahead. We went to go visit a few days after and ordered the bone in chicken family pack with coleslaw, deviled eggs, dirty Mac n Cheese, and fries. Everything was outstanding, but be warned that the heat level gets intense. We got our chicken at the Dang Hot level which is number 4 out of 6 in terms of heat, and it was very, very spicy. My mouth was on fire by the 2nd piece of chicken. I would definitely have been happier with the Mo'Hot level. But nonetheless, it was still delicious. Definitely give Tumble 22 a visit.
