I don't think many people have discovered this little hidden gem in downtown Omaha yet. Most of the times we have eaten there, it hasn't been busy at all. I guess for now, that is an advantage, as it is easy to get a table, either inside or outside. The outdoor patio is one of the best downtown. So much seating and close to all of the fun new additions along the riverfront. We have gone there a number of times for breakfast/brunch, which is probably my favorite meal to enjoy there with all of the delicious southern food choices, but the last time we were there, it was for dinner and drinks and we loved that too. Although we usually prefer to eat out on the patio, the decor inside is so cute. I would recommend asking for a booth! read more

I first visited Tupelo Honey on my birthday, and it was a great way to celebrate! The ambiance was cute and southern, with blue willow dishes, lots of light, and little lanterns and greenery all over. Their drink glasses also have funny little graphics on them, like "Hold Your Horses" with two horses drawn on the glass. Our server was Lauren, and she was great - giving us her recommendations and always making sure our drinks were filled. It was extra busy at lunch time, but she was killing it! We started with the Biscuits for a Cause which were buttery little biscuits that came with whipped butter, blueberry jam, and honey. They were fabulous, sweet, and went to a good cause - the Tupelo Honey Relief and Development Fund. It was our first time here, so we went a little nuts on the ordering! Aside from the Biscuits for a Cause, we got two more appetizers: We picked the Crispy Brussels Sprouts first because Brussels are one of my favorite apps. These were fried up perfectly with Romesco sauce and feta cheese. This was more of a savory version than the sweet version with balsamic that you sometimes see. It was still tasty, though - I don't discriminate between Sprouts. My husband picked the Cast Iron Pimento Cheese Dip, because he's always been a pimento lover. It was delish and creamy in a little cast iron skillet. Cheesy, salty, spicy - all the best stuff! While we were there during lunch time, we picked two of the Lunch Combos - two smaller versions of the normal menu items, which sounded perfect for our first visit. I picked the Asheville Hot Chicken & Ranch Melt (half sandwich) and it was super delightful. The chicken wasn't too spicy, so don't let the "hot" in the name scare you. It has house-made pickles on it, with a buttermilk ranch sauce on it - which really works well with the crispy chicken. The ranch is almost like the dill sauce you put on little cucumber sandwiches - favorite childhood memory unlocked! The side I chose with my lunch combo was the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which was similar to a chicken noodle soup, but with a little spice to it. Served warm in another little skillet - it was nice and filling, and I could see a whole bowl of this almost being a meal! My husband also got the lunch combo (though, I should note, we shared everything!), and he ordered the Chip and Dip Chicken Tenders. They came as humongous strips of chicken, battered with chip crumbs and ranch seasoning, and were served with ranch for dipping, too. I was surprised how much I liked these. Extra tender chicken, with the crunchiness of the chip crust there - yum. He chose the Beer Sausage Gumbo for his side, and it was so delectable! Rich and hearty, but somehow not too filling. It was perfect as a little side soup, especially if you're a fan of sausage of gumbo. We also added a few sides of things that sounded good, but weren't on the lunch combo side options. Our first was the Baked Mac and Cheese, which was exactly how it sounded - a mac and cheese that was all baked up, locking the cheesiness in, and topped with bacon bits that gave it a little more of a toothsome bite. And then my husband wanted to try the Andouille Red Beans and Rice side, because andouille sausage is one of his favorite things. This sounds pretty standard, but even the standards like beans and rice were done excellently here. We were SO full from all the food we ordered (and packed up to take home), that we weren't even thinking about dessert, but Lauren remembered that we were there for my birthday so she said to pick a dessert and it was complimentary. So we MADE some room for dessert and picked the Heavenly Banana Pudding. It was so creamy, not overly sweet, with a little whipped cream twist on top. It definitely lived up to the "Heavenly" name! The first time we went I'd give it 5/5. The service was great, the mocktail was INCREDIBLE...thank you someone for having NA liquor in your bar for pregnant women! And the fried pickles I was still thinking about the next day. The salmon was a little dry but everything else was so delicious we didn't think anything of it. The next time we went a few weeks later, it was okay. The pickles were soggy this time, the server was getting off his shift and was NOWHERE to be found the entire time, the chicken sandwich had no flavor. They definitely needed to add more ranch to it as it was dry. The collards weren't even good this time, they were more crunchy than they were braised. But the drinks (cold brew and the mocktails) were again incredible. The steak he said was a really crappy cut of meat for the price that you're paying and wasn't worth it. We've been both on a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon and you don't need a reservation either time. It was decorated very nice and wasn't too loud to be able to hear. The vibe of the restaurant is fantastic with high ceilings and pretty decor. Our waiter was also super nice and checked in with us the appropriate amount. Now for the food, it wasn't bad by any means but it was incredibly average. I wish they had a better sauce to dip the chicken tenders and the fried okra was a little bland. I don't normally share feedback if I have a bad experience because I get it, some days are just off. That said, I had terrible service today for lunch. I took my team out to lunch for a colleagues birthday and we arrived at 11:45 am. There were 7 of us. There were 3 other tables in the restaurant already eating. It took 15 minutes to get water, we waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. Not all of the food came out at the same time. No one checked on us. One of my lunch guests got up and asked for a pitcher of water to refill everyone's glass. Then had to go back and ask for a refill on the pitcher. Absolute worst service and slowest service times. Nearly 2 hours for lunch. That's insane. It's sad that I won't be back because the food was really good. It was not so good that I need to wait over an hour for it to be delivered. Mind you I had a breakfast bowl with grits, eggs and potatoes so its not like that takes a long time to cook. Very disappointing. read more

So many of their staff members walked by, gave me a glance from head to toe, then walked on. I was not scrubby looking so I didn't understand the looks. I was literally going to just leave after the 5th person did that to me, but a nice gal came out of nowhere and helped me to a table. So then, get this...I waited forever for someone to take my order! Maybe 10-15 minutes later a guy that was bring plates to the back stops by and asks if anyone took my order, I said no. He glances around and told me he had to drop off the dirty plates but will be back to help me. By the looks of it, he mainly brought our plates, not take orders. He was super nice. I asked him for his personal favorites and ordered it. Food did not disappoint! So glad I stayed for the food. The fried green tomatoes and grits was delicious! It had a red pepper sauce that went so well with it. I could have licked the plate. Had a good and bad experience at Tupelo. Was a great night out so decided to sit outside. Waiter came right away and took drink and app orders and brought the drink out within 5 minutes. Took our food order then didn't see or hear from him again for 40 minutes while all the people around us were seated and given food. We asked another waitress for help then he came by to say he forgot to put our food in. Just weird to take all our orders and given a drink and never to come back to our table. So we went inside to be seated and served by the waitress we talked to later who was so kind and courteous. She made the dining experience so much better for us and came by just to chat with us about our day and her experience at Tupelo so far. Will be back because the food is so good! For our Thursday date night dinner, we debated whether to dine out today or wait until tomorrow. Ultimately deciding on today due to the better parking situation and foot traffic. There were several areas of free parking available right in front of the restaurant, but we couldn't snag one of them. Luckily, there is still lots of paid parking nearby. Despite being busy, there were still plenty of empty seats, typical for a Thursday evening. To avoid waiting for a table, we opted to sit at the bar, where the bartender was juggling three sections. My date opted for the cast iron pork shoulder with mac and cheese and gumbo, while I chose the smothered chicken with brussel sprouts and crispy potatoes. Both dishes were solid choices, although I found the pork to be slightly too vinegary for my taste--my only complaint. Otherwise, everything was delicious. I walked in and noticed that no one was seated at the bar and since I was by myself, I copped a seat. I sat down right in front of where the brunette bartender with the ponytail and glasses was preparing a drink. Do you think she looked up to say hi or to welcome me in any way? Absolutely not, so I said hi, how are you? Her response, "good" as she walked away. She returned and started making more drinks then out of nowhere she placed a menu in front of me. Mind you, I was starving but told her I only wanted a Mich Ultra. I drank my beer and left. If you were to rank bartenders from 1 to 10, in friendliness, welcoming, good attitude, etc., with 1 being the worst, it would be difficult but I would have to give her a 1. I had the classic and it was pretty good. The mac and cheese was a little weird...it was a fusion, but maybe that's just not my thing. I don't know what I expected, but the waffle was light and fluffy and it was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I would like to point out there was one dollop of whipped butter for two waffles and I needed two...the side of butter was not whipped so I know to ask for melted/whipped next time. My daughter had the chicken sammich and it was RAW...so there's not a lot for that one because she was focused on not getting sick. They apologized and took the meal off the check and sent us home with coupons which I will work on using but it still happened...our server was really great and super friendly. We were greeted immediately, seated at the bar, and several minutes later we had our drinks and were placing our food order. Pimento Dip and Chips has a nice kick of heat and the sweet dusting on the chips was a great compliment. The Fried Green Tomatoes I'm a little conflicted on... The service was pretty slow, granted it was a busy day for industries. The food was pretty basic. Its pretty big and spacious. Wonderful service! Our waiter went above and beyond taking care of our table of 14 and he did a phenomenal job! Everyone was grateful and pleased with the experience and the food. I love the environment and the soft southern and modern decor. It's a very cute and a fun restaurant. The food is delicious. Having been to the De Moines location, I was excitedly anticipating the opening of the Omaha location. This is an excellent addition to the new Brickline building in the old market. On the former ConAgra campus, the large sunny windows and patio offer great views of the lake and its fountain. This only adds to the beautiful and warmly decorated interior. The lunch special is a great deal, but overall a well priced menu with something for everyone. Plenty of vegetarian options for those in our group. My favorite appetizer is the fried green tomatoes over grits which also doubles as a nice light meal. The biscuits are not something to pass over! Located right off the newly renovated Mall there are plenty of metered parking and garage parking options available. What I love about this place is that they take reservations which allow us to park, go for a nice walk in the park, and then show up and sit down without waiting. We were pleasantly greeted and shown to our table. Menus include a variety of creative breakfast/brunch options, as well as their full meals. Menus include calorie listings, which prevent you from completely going. crazy! We ordered the chicken hollandaise breakfast and quickly realized that we could've split one of these dishes. The avocado toast was good too. We also ordered a sample of their regular fried chicken, which had a nice spice and crunch to it. We skipped the dessert offerings, which look wonderful, but definitely something meant for sharing! The restaurant has a modern open vibe with a full bar. We both love fried chicken and a place like Tupulos seemed great mixing fried chicken 'southern style' with honey.... We were there just a few days ago. I had to park about 2 blocks away and when I walked into the restaurant I had noticed that the places on the same block were both very busy, but not here. Hhmmm Why not? I will say the best part of the meal was the appetizer or 2 'biscuits' with blueberry jam and honey. I will start with the conversation we had in the car as we headed home. I asked "Did you enjoy the meal? Was it OK?" My wife hesitated and then said......."I don't see us driving across town to eat there like we did tonight." She had the Smothered Chicken and I had the 4 piece Original Fried Chicken. Her first comment was, "I wasn't really sure it was fully cooked." I told her that mine was overcooked, dry, and difficult to cut or eat. She said she really enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and the way they cooked them. I told her for me the best were the biscuits. I had fries that had seasoning on them but were still out of the freezer mushed fries. I frequently refer to them as "fake fries" as opposed to real potato fries. The next question I asked was, "Do you see us coming back?" Her answer was a very quick and simple, "NO". ......."For the same, actually less money we know of a restaurant and a small bar that makes the same thing much better than Tupolo's did.
