It looked run-down, dated, and, unfortunately, not very clean. After many years of enjoying this place, this was the first time I noticed how much it seems to have declined. I hope management takes the time to refresh the restaurant and improve the overall cleanliness because it has always been one of my go-to spots, and I'd like to see it return to the quality it once had.

I first tried the oysters without the lemon squeeze along with the shrimp. I then had the clam chowder with pepper which wasn't salty like some in SF. I then had their Fried combo which wild gulf shrimp, scallops and wild cod with fries which weren't salty like some in SF. Then I had their whole Dungeness crab with garlic. I then washed it down with glasses of Pinot Noir from a French owner vineyard in Oregon. Scoma's is a San Francisco institution worth revisiting. Come to a place which brings the old San Francisco and makes me "nostalgic" a place by Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco natives mostly "all pick " a few blocks from a Park called "Aquatic" you must try their Dungeness Crab seasoned in "garlic" You can find Seafood from the Sunset Strip of San Francisco all the way to "SOMA" you can smell the seafood "aroma"and enjoy some wine like the Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley of Oregon to "Sonoma" you will find it by the salty waters in SF at "Scoma"

The whisky flavor was super strong, but slightly hidden under the also strong coffee flavor. The whipped cream did provide some creaminess to offset the whisky flavor also. Overall, we were happy with the drinks and thought they were a good value, but didn't feel super welcomed.

A bit too loud personally as I felt like I had to scream or lean in to hear my friends. Only one bartender working during this rush which was wild to me as the man was making like 6 drinks at one time and had them all ready together. My cocktail was a riff on a granny smith apple which was really refreshing. My friends also got the bar's version of an espresso martini as well as a watermelon cocktail, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Great for just drinks, appetizers maybe, or a full dinner - I love the comfortable atmosphere, and the bar staff is truly warm and friendly. I'm a rare vegetarian from the South, and typical of southern cuisine, it's so meat-heavy that I often avoid 'soul food' restaurants. I was pretty impressed with the vegetarian options available on Tupelo's menu and as a lover of grits, was AMAZED at how delicious the grits were - maybe the best I've ever had (take THAT Waffle House!!). Mushroom and grits, shrimp and grits (non-vegetarian, I know...) are seriously amazing - what is that gravy?? The grit cakes, the roasted garlic and brie mac and cheese, the cornbread, and the yam soup that's sometimes on special, are all absolutely delicious - and I've had them several times over. After chatting a bit with the owner, I learned that the meat and dairy are from local, sustainable and humanely-raised farms, and the veggies organic. Why isn't this listed on the menu, or anywhere? This says a lot about the values of the management, and has brought me back with veggie and carnivorous - and beer-loving friends alike. Oh yes, last but never least, the beer selection is great. And what beer doesn't go great with some apple crisp? How can I turn THAT down? Yum. read more

After a long afternoon of walking around the city on a stunning blue sky day, my friend and I decided to pop in to Tupelo for a cold one. Our experience: 1. Any bar with the smarts to put hooks underneath automatically scores bonus points in my book - big plus. 2. The bar stools are wider than customary (and padded) which makes passing the time all the easier. 3. Beer cold. Good. 4. Clean bathroom (tho pretty wet on the floor - water dripping from hands from sink to towels). Gorgeous tiles - nice and unexpected touch! 5. Knowledgable, attentive bartenders that know their shit and hustle when they need to hustle. Seems simple but many fall short in this category. 6. It had surpassed the dinner hour and we decided to give the food a go. I have two words: The Grits. My Lawd, the grits! Fall off my chair (or wide comfy stool) delicious. Went there last Friday before a show at the Grant and Green. Can I just say, I have had a lot of so-so Southern food in SF and some really shitty bar food and I can categorically say that the food at Tupelo was above board on all accounts. Mark Danzinger's take on Southern inspired bar food was superb. The smoked tomato jam with the vegan grit cakes left me wanting more, OH and the ham hock fritters were AMAZING. Speaking of pork, I got a po'boy with blackened shrimp AND pork belly (mouth is starting to water) and needless to say I walked out, well needing to be rolled out more like it. What a disappointing sad place with the worst bartender I've ever come across. The girl bartender (emphasis on GIRL as her level of maturity does not surpass one of a 10 year old brat, and that's being nice) is so rude and on a power trip to make all of her costumers, especially female costumers feel horrible. The energy in the bar is so negative and depressing. I feel so bad for the father of this bartender, who is apparently the owner of the bar across the street, to have a daughter with such a pathetic personality, sloppy drunk on the job, and disgusting reputation. I will NEVER step into this place again and I strongly advise you to not go here unless you are looking to ruin your night and meet a repulsive human being. read more

If getting pickpocketed, getting roofied, and getting groped sounds like a good time -- with bouncers and management that are ALL IN ON IT, then THIS is the place for you!! Absolutely baffling that 1) people still choose to come here and 2) it's still allowed to be open. Seriously - read the reviews. Sort by RECENT. Make better choices with your life. Oh this place is great! I've been coming here for a long time, drinking on weekdays and karaoke nights with friends. Ibin Vanleer is the best DJ, check him out he is soo good the vibes are amazing and good good music. Bartenders are alright, not the best. She charged me $30, which is way over the tax limit of $3-$4 (SF tax is 8.75%). disputed charge with the woman (skinny girl with brown hair, around 5'3') and she made some excuse and stuttered her way to freedom. Oh what depths Tupelo has sunk to. Avoid this place like the plague, unless you're ok with your belongings being stolen and your drinks drugged. Watched Super Bowl 50 here. Fun atmosphere and very attentive staff. The place was packed but our server was on it and brought drinks out very quickly. The place got a little hot with so many people in it, but that's minor and we had a decent time. Glad we watched the game at Tupelo read more
