Really wanted to like this place but it suffers from being one of the only restaurants in Palmer, and therefore without competition, settles for mediocrity. Really wish the wood fired pizza was on the menu at lunch time; otherwise the lunch time menu is rather boring. Sandwiches were small but well-flavored with unique ingredients and homemade touches. Delightful baked goods and desserts and a unique thin gluten-free alternative bread would bring me back, but sadly the service will not. We waited 8 minutes for a table while the wait staff stood around; no one seemed to see us. Our waiter was full of trite, practiced words but lacked authenticity entirely. He may as well have been a robot. He also got the order wrong (not taking into account a gluten allergy) but tried to blame me for it (like I hadn't asked). Mistakes happen, but his lack of humanity was downright uncomfortable. read more

I've never once had a meal here that I disliked. It's such a treat to drop in here and have a good, healthy meal. Were I able, I would eat here several times a week, and I would enjoy it just as much every time. They automatically include minimum tip in the bill, which I think is quite clever and easy. Not tipping is extremely rude, and I would much rather pay a mandatory tip that I would already have paid anyway, rather than have other customers hold onto their change with their greedy little fingers. If you are to complain about being forced to leave a tip, it's likely you would have left a pathetic tip (or no tip at all!!) and you are being a child about having to act as a decent human being. They're a bit understaffed, which I don't fault them for, and I take that into account when I visit. This is an excellent place to come and wind down; relax and chill out for a bit. You'll feel refreshed when you leave. read more

Don't be too quick about it Ethan L. I know people had a bad time and they need patience, but hey, it gets even better therefore I am writing an update to increase my stars to get my highest hopes. Tess, our very friendly waitress is always doing a great job here. They are always aware of their allergies people have. The burgers are AWESOME! They got some gluten-free options. The raspberry cheesecake is delicious. Everyone in this place are so helpful and they deserve an A++. I will really come here for food soon. :) read more

My husband and I love this place. The chef uses whole, fresh ingredients & experiments often with his/her menu. Great selection of wines and teas as well. I've never had a bad experience & recommend it often since we also live in Palmer. Because of the federal law regarding waitressing tips, they do charge a reasonable gratuity. (Blame Obama or try McDonald's if you don't like tipping.) read more

It was a rainy day when we drove up north from Anchorage. We got hungry and thanks to Yelp, found Turkey Red. It's an adorable place, very cozy. What struck me though, was the desserts they had displayed at the counter. I'm not a dessert person and neither is my friend. For some reason we both REALLY wanted dessert after lunch after seeing the massive cakes at the counter. Anyway, service is a tad slow but all is forgiven when the food came! I had the daily soup special, cream of chicken with the lentil burger. OH. MY. GOD. I wish I had a huge bowl of that soup! It had chunks of meat in it and they added cilantro to the soup that brought a whole new dimension to the flavor! It's not thick like what you picture cream of whatever soup to be like. It was more brothy but still rich. It was like they roasted a chicken and then cooked the meat and bones to create this beauty! It was magnificent! I liked my lentil burger fine, but the soup was what really killed me! My friend and I shared a piece of chocolate cake. It had a rich chocolate fudge surrounding it. I asked the server if they could possibly heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the chocolate and she said that they didn't have a microwave. That made me love the restaurant even MORE. The chef put it in the oven for a minute and that was just perfect! They even made us fresh whipped cream to go along with it. Lovely lovely place! You can tell all the food is made with care, and you get what you pay for. It's the best restaurant in the valley. The burger, pizzas, spanakopita, moussaka, and sandwiches in particular are great. The one downside, which was pretty annoying when it happened, is that last time we went, we had to wait an hour to get seated even though we had a reservation. The waitstaff all seemed very stressed out and overwhelmed-- it was a Saturday night, maybe they need to schedule more people to come in? I always feel bad when it seems like the servers and cooks are being overworked because the owners didn't want to pay more people to work, which is what it seemed like. TLDR: Great place, hope they get their life right on busy nights. read more

I'm torn on my review for this place. My husband was in love with his mushroom burger, which I did taste and it was good. I really liked my red pepper/tomato soup - very creamy. My sandwich was great on paper but didn't come together. It was a turkey sand with roasted zucchini, feta, roasted red pepper, and spinach. The turkey was thick sliced from a processed loaf which is a big turn off for me. At least try to hide the identity of the bad stuff. I expected the sandwich to be heated so the flavors meshed together. They didn't list it that way so it's not their fault but that was what was in my head. The end result was a sandwich that had ingredients that did not quite come together at the end. The inside of the restaurant was very.. well.. non-Alaska which was nice. Very classy and refined. Its an oasis of refinement in a state that does not focus on that. The servers were nice but I don't think they really knew what was on the menu. I had a question about the Portabello Sandwich and she didn't seem to understand how it was prepared. read more

Now that I've been here again and again, the food is AMAZING. Not just for Palmer, but in general. They are consistent with dinner and their specials are always worth the expense. I just tried their breakfast for the first time and will definitely be back. I had the French toast which came with a berry compote and fresh berries on top. The dollop of Greek yogurt was perfect on top. Very impressed and glad I kept trying. read more

This is not your typical Alaskan restaurant. Reminded us of something we'd see in Portland. Organic, local when at all possible, and excellent. Great, attentive service. Subtle flavors and wonderful ideas. My organic burger and potato salad was amazing, and my wife's turkey san with grilled zucchini was perfect. Gluten free!!!! Food is very good especially the soups. It's a lil pricey for the portions - my 6'3" leaves hungry but let's be honest, he eats more than most normal sized humans. My favorite thing is their homemade natural sodas that are so tasty and healthy with lots of probiotics. Plus gluten free deserts this place is a favorite! read more

Best restaurant in the valley. I've been to Greece a couple times, I've had a lotta moussaka. This place has excellent moussaka. Speaking of moose, the lemon chocolate mousse cake is ridiculously good. Speaking of hoofed mammals, their burger is crazily good. This is one of the only places in the valley I've been to more than once. The only downside is that if you go for dinner sometimes they take a long time. I wish they had cooking classes! read more

I've been here about a dozen times and this latest visit was as close to perfect yet. I had the braised lamb shank with couscous eggplant fiddleheads in a creamy but not heavy pan sauce. The waitress recommended a perfectly pairing red wine. Other had the perfect moussaka and a flavorful tomato soup for starters and we spit a green salad which was limited in item but top quality local fresh organic. It was indeed the best meal here or any where I've had on a long time. Turkey Red could easily get a five star from me, if only they would get their act completely together on the service and food prep. They too often get the order wrong, take forever, or the food comes out tepid and has to go back. Hit it when they're great, and they're great. Miss, and they are a huge disappointment. And they need to cycle some new stuff into the menu. They try hard though, and they are very nice people. read more

Best food in Alaska! Yes, it is tiny, so you have to make reservations or wait for a table, but SO GOOD! I tried hot tea (and they bring lemon and honey) and food that is health/homey/artsy all at the same time. It is special, and worth the drive. I asked for veggies without the hot spices they normally put on it, and they put it on anyway. So watch for this if you don't like spices on your veggies. read more

We ended up sharing a lot of hummus and fish and it was great. Hubby and I stopped in after a day of easy hiking and exploring a few local shops. Turkey Red never disappoints. I have stopped in both during a busy rush, and when they have only a few tables filled. It never seems to effect the quality of service or food. Our waitress was attentive, polite, and pleasantly engaging. She gave wonderful recommendations that I might otherwise have overlooked. The food was (as usual) exceptional. read more

If you like healthier food, are really desperate, in Palmer and can't go to anchorage, try vagabond blues first and if that doesn't have what you want, check your bank account and THEN come to Turkey Red. This place used to be pretty good, about 6 years ago. I've ate here several times through out the years and it's worse and worse every time. For the price you might as well go buy groceries and make it yourself. The salad is soggy and their beef stew tastes like pumpkin pie X10. The burger... forget about it.
