This used to be a favorite date place. Before Covid, it was amazing. Some of the things they did for the community during that time was amazing also and one of the reasons we go there. However we had family out of town stay and took them here for lunch. Our server was unfriendly. Just getting our drinks took forever and she was "put out" when we needed more. We ordered the hummus and it was so bland we couldn't eat it. My daughter had spaghetti and it was cold. Our food was just really unimpressive for what it cost. Their desserts aren't sweet enough, and their drinks are hyper healthy, so if you're looking for a bland, vegan experience. This is your spot. We came here for breakfast and were disappointed. Service was subpar at best. I ordered an omlette, which comes with toast. When it came without toast, I inquired if I could get it. The waitress just said "no." I asked, "doesn't it come with it?" She told me it did, but she didn't have any bread sliced. Mind you, there were literally 3 tables in the restaurant, so it wasn't as if she was too busy to cut a piece of bread. I asked if she could slice some and she sighed and walked away. She came back with bread - which was good - but wasn't worth her attitude. She also looked personally affronted when I asked what was in the "Wonder Woman" cookie. We visit family in Palmer every summer and really look forward to eating at Turkey Red. Today it was breakfast and a breathtakingly good polenta and gravy dish for me and stunningly delicious omelette for my wife. Our granddaughter also had an omelette -- which she devoured -- and enjoyed a glass of hand squeezed lemonade. Paired with tasty grilled vegetables, fresh baked bread and jam, Turkey Red is worth the 3,043 mile flight every time :-) read more

My fiance and I ventured to Palmer to try out this restaurant after hearing great things about it! We had an okay experience. This is a bakery restaurant, but I didn't really get the bakery vibe. It was more mid-fine dining than what we had expected. They offer bread when you sit down and we gladly accepted and was excited to try the assortment they had given us but the breads were cold, the butter was cold and hard, and the oil was just... oil with no balsamic mixed in? Bummer I ordered the Hot Turkey Guacamole and my husband got the CBLTA, or BLTCA or something like that (a BLT with chicken). My meal was fantastic, there was great flavor in the guacamole which is almost always lack luster at most restaurants but I took a risk here - glad I did! It was very good. I chose the garden salad as the side and the greens were fresh and tasty. My husbands meal didn't quite win him over. There was apparently a lack of sauce on the sandwich leaving it tasting a bit dry. He chose the potato salad as his side which was not the typical potato salad you see at most places and was huge chunks of potato, probably about one and a half of a huge potato. It was just a bit heavy I guess. Overall I was impressed with the food, especially with the lack of great restaurants in Palmer and Wasilla, and will be back to try more things. read more

I always love to stop by here when driving through this area because I like their baked goods. If I have time to grab some sandwich and soup that usually makes my day. They always have fresh seasonal ingredients. I have taken many visitors here and they all have enjoyed their dishes. The only thing I would say is that you should come here maybe 20min before lunch rush or dinner rush. the wait can get long sometimes. But very friendly staff each time I have visited. read more

The 4 star rating proves once again Palmerites really do not have good culinary tastes. Turkey Red is HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE They are so hipster it hurts their efforts to put out flavorful food. They don't "serve" mayonise for their super dry and bland homemade bread and sandwiches. Their soup was blander than white paper. They don't serve cold beer. They act appaled and and aghast I woukd even request mayo. Ridiculous. We have eaten here twice, there is no redemption. If you truly want good food without the snobbery and hipster bland flavors... go to Meta and Rose or Grape Tap Wasilla, Hot Quarter Grill or the Rustic Goat in Anchorage. We came here for dinner this Thursday. It's a cute restaurant with very nice vibe. Everyone is relaxed. The server is very friendly. I ordered the rockfish to try. It was cooked well, maybe a little too oily for me, but overall still very good. The cake was delicious, too. We devoured that shared cake in no time. I will happily throw my 5 star review at you, and wish i could give more. Ok, so we were in Eagle River, and we were both hangry as baby birds in the nest, having had zero worms for quite some time. So, when we were done in Eagle River, i said "Go. To. Palmer. Now." And with no intention of coming to Turkey Red, as we had never been before, and every time we've been, which is apparently only on Sundays that we are in Palmer, it's always closed. Going inside, i saw a gargantuan plethora of desserts, in refrigerated displays. Cookies, and bagged baked goods to tempt you to take some home with you too. But I'm not a big dessert fan. Savory all the way for this girl, *Points thumb back at belly" Our hostess seated us and gave us menus. I am impressed with the selection of unusual beverages, though i stuck to water. I also like the napkins which were stripey, and sort of Greek/Moroccan looking. The interior is roomy. And not too much tchotskes and stuff on the walls. Always a plus for me. I am impressed by the content of this menu too. Usually there are 1 or 2 things on people's menus that I'll go for, there are lots on this one, and the specials board has several options that sound good. We decide on an appetizer. I was tempted by the Baked Brie, Grilled Polenta, and the Steamer Clams to be honest, i love all of those things. But hubster ordered the Hummus Plate. I always love hummus. I make huge vats of the stuff, in a never ending quest to perfect my recipe, and make different varieties, and if i do say so myself, mine is fabulous, but nonetheless, i am a big hummus fan. So, let's just see Red Turkey's take on hummus. So out comes a big platter, with a healthy big dollop of hummus drizzled in olive oil, 4 pieces of crusty bread, 4 thick slices of cucumber, and a handful of cherry tomatoes. Beautiful presention. I slather a thick layer of hummus on my bread, and take a bite. Bravissimo!! I am seized in a transport of delight. A perfectly balanced hummus. The garlic, lemon and tahini are in perfect ratio, and it has the right amount of sharpness. This my friends, is an excellent hummus. I consider myself a good judge. I could take a huge spoon and eat the hummus alone, without anything accompanying it. The bread is beautiful too. I don't really like tomatoes very much, so hubster eats those, and i try cucumber with hummus - not as good as hummus on top of crusty carby goodness, but almost. For my entree, i had chosen Scaloppine ai Funghi, which was chicken breast, in a mushroom cream sauce, with Portobello, potatoes, and vegetables. He got something that i cant find on the menu thats published, but it was Spiral Pasta (rotini???) with Sausage in a cream sauce and Portobello. So my entree came, and it looked really appetizing. I have a couple of favourite Restaurants. Turkey Red just made it on my list. Ok, so this sauce is glistening creamy perfection, perfectly seasoned, excellent flavour, and seductively draped over moist juicy chicken breast slices, a perfect pairing, and it's embarrassing to admit, this is the first time I'd had Portobello, not that i was avoiding it as such, i do love all mushrooms, but Portobellos had just never appeared in a meal I'd ordered. And oh the meaty divinity. The sumptuous flavour, just draped in that sexy cream sauce, i just can not explain in mere words how it felt in my mouth, but it was making me do weird facial expressions of happiness. The vegetables were delicious, though if pressed i can barely remember what they were. Kale, and I remember seeing red cabbage, there was some beautifully caramelized onion, and maybe zucchini? All tasted so good. But I've saved the best for last lol. POTATOES. Hub tried to get one, and i almost stabbed him with my fork. "You know better by now sunshine!" These potatoes were cut sort of larger than average home fries. Oh hell yeah. Sautéed babies. I did leave them till last, because POTATOES ARE LIFE baby. And i twirled them around in my remaining sauce. That my friends, was an absolutely outstanding meal. Hubster's wasn't as good as mine in my opinion, though he really enjoyed it, and was thrilled with the crisped parts of the pasta. He couldn't eat all of his, though i had finished all of mine, and was looking at the plate longingly, cos i wanted to pick it up, and lick it. He wanted a dessert, of course he did. I'm really not a dessert fan, I'd rather have just said "Hey, can i have some more potatoes and sauce with Portobellos as my dessert" and been happy with that. Why does no one understand that? Anyway, he got lemon custard tart with blueberries. So anyway, 2 very happy customers, who will be back. I'd be happy to travel from Anchorage again to eat here no problem at all. Example, ordered the daily special , the seafood pasta, for $35 and it was a extremely small portion with exactly one tiny chunk of salmon, one scallop and 4 clams. The waiter then charged $37 and said the menu hadn't been updated, except the price was hand written as $35 on the "special board." We stopped here after working up an appetite at Arkose brewery (just a couple minutes away from Turkey Red). I loved the hot roast beef sandwich (I forgot the name they called it), and the soup of the day was sesame pork. Make sure you get ask for some of the creamy horseradish sauce that they serve with the cold roast beef sandwich - it is fantastic and goes great on the hot sandwich. The soup was fantastic - rich clearish broth with a lot of flavor, hunks of carrot, onions, garlic, strings of pork and some parsley on top, cooked with sesame oil to give it a really nice flavor. I wasn't sure what sesame pork soup would taste like but I really liked it! Parking was easy in the free parking lot or some free street parking was available as well. They also had some books near the front to keep all ages occupied - my favorite was the Where's Waldo book! read more

This place would be notable in ANY city in 'Merica, let alone one in Alaska, let alone PALMER, Alaska. I was in the area, feeling dreadfully hangry, and hurriedly browsing the mobile app for a solution to my condition. I'll admit. I was skeptical of this place, despite the positive Yelp reviews. I am not a big fan of some "bakeries". You know the setup. They have coffee and cookies and bread and scones and maybe they'll toast or microwave something small for you...which is fine..but it's not something I want to eat when I'm hungry. I am a real man that requires real food. A scone is tasty but it is like shooting the T-Rex that is my hunger with a BB gun. It may feel better for a couple seconds, but in the end it's just gonna make things worse. Anyway, this place. I went here for lunch and it was one of the best lunches I have ever had in my stupid little life. I had the brisket sandwich special. It's probably the best brisket sandwich I have ever had. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender. This brisket puts about 99% of dedicated BBQ eateries to SHAME. And it's just a "bakery" (which would explain why the bread bookending the meat was so crusty-tasty). The soup was some sort of turkey pesto and it was nearly a meal in itself, not just some cheap, throw-away item as soup so often is. The service was also prompt and snappy, I was in and out in no time. This place is so good I would make a special trip up to Palmer to visit it. (and apparently so would many others, as "Anchorage" is one of the keywords for this place) If I happen to be in Palmer, I will ALWAYS go here. It would be criminal not to. read more

Every time I visit home I inevitably end up eating at Turkey Red. It really is one of the only nice places in the valley that doesn't feel like they are defrosting your meal from the box in which it arrived the week before. My most recent experience was pleasant but missed the mark. The service was excellent and I really appreciated the suggestion that the server made. We were there for lunch and I couldn't decide between the Portabello sandwich or the fried polenta in marinara sauce. Our server suggested that I order the appetizer size of the polenta and then a half Mediterranean salad. I was a little disappointed in the food. I assumed that the fried polenta would be a little crispy on the outside, but mostly it was mushy all the way through. I liked the ingredients in the Mediterranean salad, it had Kalamata olives, feta and chickpeas, but the salad dressing was extremely bland and essentially just olive oil. It did nothing to enhance the flavors. My boyfriend got a cup of coffee and complained that it wasn't very good. So, as far as decent restaurants go, Turkey Red is great for Palmer. There isn't anywhere else that serves fresh food the way they do. The presentation is nice and the service is great. It's just when I am paying that much for a meal I really want it to taste excellent too! read more

Not sure if this place is just super short staffed, but I never thought it was acceptable to not only not acknowledge the people coming in and waiting to be seated, but to completely ignore them altogether. I thought I was invisible for the first 10 minutes I stood there and all I wanted was to get something to go. Even the couple in front of us were waiting to be seated for an insanely long time. I will never come back here again and I do not recommend coming here. Even the outside tables were not cleaned, there were cups and trash on the tables that looked pretty comfy where it was at. The worst part is that I don't leave reviews often, but I was so appalled by how bad the service was. Recently we had them cater a wedding. Small group, 37people. The food was cold. At $35 a plate, i would like my 3 small pieces of meat to be hot. They blamed the venue for having too small of an oven. However, they were recommended by the venue, so they should have known what was available and prepared accordingly. We also had to pay for the servers and then an additional plate fee for the servers to eat. I would not recommend them to cater to any event. Maybe the food would taste better if it comes to you warm at the restaurant. read more

Turkey Red is an outstanding place to dine in or get take out from. The ambience inside is very energetic and joyful. The food is outstanding and healthier than most other restaurants. The staff are upbeat and skillful. And don't get me started on the baked goods (cookies, cakes, pies, etc) and let us not forget that their freshly baked sour dough bread loaves are one of a kind. If you are a sour dough bread fan, get there early or call them to make sure they have loaves left. They sell out quickly due to the demand. My wife had been wanting to eat dinner here so we finally gave it a try. It's mostly "Greek/Italian" food with a single steak offering and tonight, a special featuring red salmon. The steak appeared to have been cooked in a pan or on a flat top and had no sear whatsoever, the bottom was actually gray. It also hadn't had any salt or pepper or any other seasoning before being cooked and it was tasteless. It was served completely covered in chopped parsley, not a normal way to serve a steak unless you are trying to hide something. The steak was tough and hard to cut despite being medium rare. The salmon was way way overcooked and very dry. The roasted potatoes that accompanied the steak were either almost raw or mushy, about half one way and half the other, and the "roasted" fresh vegetables that accompanied both dishes were essentially raw. My wife said the bed of white rice was the best part of her meal. I'm sure people will criticize me for reviewing menu items that aren't their claim to fame but if they aren't doing the simple meals right then to me that says a lot. We were amused when we arrived and were asked if we had a reservation because there were only 2 tables occupied when we went in and no one else came in to be seated until five minutes before we left. The service was adequate but the ambiance was perplexing. Maybe they were trying for the chic bistro feel but they are using outdoor patio chairs at the indoor table, and they are uncomfortable for sitting up to a table. The lacing on several of the chairs was unraveling and looked awful and certainly didn't help whatever feel they were trying to achieve. We were in Palmer looking for some eats and was told Turkey Red was the best in Palmer so we had to try to. When we arrived we were greeted and taken to a table right away (they did request we wash our hands before seating due to COVID). The restaurant is a interesting little place, clean and well organized. The menu is simple yet a well designed mix of choices. I settled on the "Bald Bill" sandwich which is basically a roast beef sandwich with toppings. The sandwich was pretty good, the bread with a firm outside and soft, warm inside. The beef was seasoned well and the toppings fresh. The side I chose was soup which was clam chowder but unfortunately it wasn't clam chowder like I ever had. It was watery and lacked real flavor or decent chunks of meat. Being from the east coast I love a good clam chowder but they missed the mark here. Overall a nice spot but not my favorite on this day. Will come back to give them a shot to wow me with another choice. read more

This place is wonderful! On our way back to Anchorage from the Matanuska Glacier, I started to get hungry and so of course, I Yelped, and this restaurant came up. Again, thank goodness for Yelp because I didn't have to drive much further to eat. THE FOOD: We started with an appetizer which was a baked brie with sherry infused figs, cherries, nuts, and honey and let me tell you, it was the BOMB! I've never had brie with honey and sweetness but the combination is excellent and is something I will look forward to having back home. Since it was cold outside, I had the firefly chai tea which had rooibos, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla. This tea had two sides which were cream and honey and again, magnificent! The tea was not sweet at all and it just warmed me to the core which was perfect for the weather since it was snowing outside. For my entree, I had the honey and mustard pistachio encrusted salmon with brown rice and asparagus and it was delicious! Just writing about it now, makes me want it NOW! We got the yogurt cheesecake with raspberries and that too was yummy. It wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of tartness to it. My husband loves fruity stuff and he was in love with this dessert. Everything we had here was good and the service, great! I would totally come back here and highly recommend this place. read more

Doing a quick day trip to Palmer is always fun. Local shop owners recommended this local restaurant so that's where we went. My sister had the lentil burger and a drink called "The Spark." She said the lentil burger was not as good as it could have been, but good enough for her to eat it all. The Spark is a soda made by an Anchorage company called Beach Tribe Soda Works and is sparkling sold made with lemon, ginger and habanero. It was refreshing and yes, there is a kick eventually. Not too much, but enough that you know it is there. I had the turkey, bacon avocado sandwich on focaccia bread. It was delicious. The scant greens called a salad that came with our sandwiches had a good vinaigrette flavor. All in all, a good meal. We'll visit again. read more
