I've been living in the US for 5 years, and this is the most authentic Turkish food that I have tried in this country. Don't miss the hunkar begendi (sultan's delight), icli kofte, and baklava. These guys know how authentic food should taste like. I took off one star, because I didn't feel the Turkish hospitality here that we always like to boast about. I have only experienced the weekend brunch buffet here and it is a good deal. All the food offerings are authentic and fresh. It can get crowded for weekend brunch so there is sometimes a line at the buffet table but it is worth the wait and helps make sure fresh food is always available. Also, if you are seated upstairs it can get annoying walking back up and down to get food. The food spread included breads, pita, dips (Tzatziki), salads, lox, cheeses, stuffed grape leaves, an omelet station, gyro, rice, fish, baklava, and much more. Don't forget to try the Turkish coffee, which isn't included in the brunch price but worth a try. read more

Absolutely fabulous experience - totally recommend!! I went to the Turkish Kitchen on Sunday for brunch with 2 friends. We got there a bit for 11 and they kindly told us to come back in 10mins. We walked around the neighborhood and then got there about 10 past the hour. A few people were there but not many. It filled up within 30mins. But, no worries, plenty of great buffet food for all. And I mean great! The selection was huge, the quality and taste of the food was really superior. Try the taramasalad (I think it was home made - yum), the lamb paties, the cheese phyllo rolls, and of course save room for the extraordinary sweets for desert. All this for $22 -- if you want a cocktail try the apricot raspberry mimosa ($5). The coffee was pretty good too. read more

I lustfully drank my warm Tripe soup seasoned with a dash of vinegar and hot chili flakes....can I say 'peRrrfect' in a whisper!!! And then some Mediterranean grilled Bass oh! perfectly done and impeccable. Service started off a bit slow but once they got start the food only kept getting better. Ahh, Turkish Kitchen.... I went here once with some friends for lunch. There were 3 of us total. I arrived first, a little after 1 p.m., and even though the restaurant was not especially crowded, I still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. But I did get to admire the fun red decor while waiting. I'd never had Turkish food before and didn't really know what to expect, but I was hungry and in the end was not disappointed. While the salad that went with the lunch left something to be desired - it was just a plain old salad, something I could have made at home - the entree itself was good. I had fish - I believe it was trout, but can't recall now - and it was served with a yummy side of rice. Very satisfying as a whole, and not overpriced at all. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well. The servers are very friendly, but the wait service as a whole was extremely slow. I couldn't conceive of the reason for this, since by the time we ordered our lunch the restaurant was pretty much empty. My friends and I go out to lunch a lot and it's been my experience that restaurants in New York know the meaning of fast service during this time, but Turkish Kitchen did not seem to know the meaning of that when we were there. It took forever to get the check too, and we were all late getting back to work as a result. The service is the reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. I haven't been back since, but would definitely try it again as it's been a while since I've visited. Two words...SUNDAY BRUNCH. Came here on the advice of a local...I could barely contain my excitement. I'm not usually a "buffeter" because I rarely get my money's worth. However, I suspected that by Day 3 in the city I had stretched out my stomach enough to get what I paid for...and the spread looked quite impressive. It's hard to give what we ate justice through mere words...several varieties of tomato salads, assorted fresh breads, several savory lamb , chicken, beef and seafood creations, two kinds of rice, and half a table filled with unique desserts. There was no doubt my stomach had increased in size...I managed to get an entire plate down and had no problem fitting in some baklava, pastries soaked in honey, and custard. Disappointing, to say the least. Was really excited to try this place due to the good yelp rating and somewhat difficulty of finding suitable Turkish food in Manhattan. For starters, the atmosphere itself was a little off putting. There was nothing at all ethnic about the decoration and our hostess/waiter was Russian, not Turkish. No matter, as long as the food was delicious. Menu wasn't anything extraordinary; everything you'd expect to find at a generic Westernized Turkish restaurant. After the waitress gave us our drinks (including a $7.00 "Turkish" beer) and eventually served us our meals, we never saw her again. Our dishes consisted of a ball of wheat rice and somewhat oddly placed portions of food. They were literally what the menu described them as (ex. okra with rice) without any extra decorations/accommodations). They tasted like a decently home cooked meals, or maybe satisfactory frozen dishes from the super market. Again, nothing that really said "Turkish" or even Middle Eastern orientated. The waitress also failed to give our table bread, as the servers only seemed to care about the larger parties. It took us a good fifteen minutes to get the bill (even after we waived a random server down, he forgot again). Was flabbergasted to be presented with a $50.00+ dollar check, considering the two of us ordered very basic, bland meals. Couldn't get out of there fast enough; will not be back. read more

One of the best restaurants in Manhattan. I am turkish and the food was top notch. Taste and everything! Service was superb. I mean the service was so good, they set the bar up for any restaurant in my mind. There was a garnish olive on one of our appetizers and me and my brother wanted it. The waiter didn't even ask and brought us a small cup of olives. We were very pleased. And at the end of the dinner we had a plate of fruits for free. The staff was very nice to us. They know each dish with their turkish names. They have good pronunciation of the dishes so there is no mistake. Man I can write all night about this awesome place. A+ read more

I got the grilled veggie plate with eggplant purée and I think it was one of the best dishes I've eaten my whole life! I am so amazed by it. Also got the sampler and was pretty happy about it too. First time back to this Murray Hill standby since I started Yelping. The main dining room is sleek and modernistic- not what you would expect at a Turkish restaurant, but it works. We were a party of 7 and were brought upstairs to a dining room with two other big parties. The service was a bit leisurely as a result. We were fine with this as it allowed us a lot of time to hang out. It's a pleasure not to be pressured to turn over our table. The waitresses were nice and pleasant. Cocktails were very good and priced at only 8 bucks. Turkish wine is a hit or miss affair and only some people were drinking, so we stuck with Cosmopolitans, etc... The bread was excellent. We shared an assortment of cold dips, which were really good. Fried zucchini pancakes were light and crispy. Stuffed grape leaves were OK, but I'm not a big fan. The shepherd's salad was OK. Main dishes were good. We had a few different permutations of lamb. All were cooked well. The fish dishes were really good, too. We skipped dessert. My only real complaint about the restaurant was that my wife and I were desperately thirsty afterwards. This is a nice, convivial place where friends can enjoy a delicious, reasonably priced meal. read more

Amazing lunch specials. Took my team here for our summer lunch and they were able to accommodate 7 people for same day reservation. We came around 12.30 and that's around when people start rolling in. I would say A reservation is not a must but recommended. Decor is modern, not exactly what I had in mind for a Turkish restaurant. But no worries, they do serve authentic Turkish food. The lunch menu has the 4 course ($17) or 2 course ($13) options with ample choices for apps and entree. The warm bread to start our meal is a big plus, perfect to mop the red roe I ordered. It wasn't as fishy as ones I had before which is great. I also tried a little bit of the eggplant dip and that was great. For entree, I had the islakandar and it was seasoned perfectly. I think everyone enjoyed their dish. Service can be on the slower side especially for lunch so make sure you let the server know if you have time restriction and hopefully they will speed things up for you. Craving Turkish food after a recent visit to Turkey and learning from friends that New York is home to great Turkish restaurants, I booked a reservation in advance at Turkish Kitchen on a Saturday night visit to the City. We arrived 30 minutes early and were seated immediately, which was a plus. The staff at Turkish Kitchen was cordial and attentive, the menu was extensive with many Turkish staples at a good price, and the food was prepared very well - overall a solid choice for Turkish food in New York. Cocktails at $8 were a steal - if you don't settle on Efes (available in both light pilsner and dark lager). While we arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation, the hostess sat us immediately in the sleek, European-like interior. There are two floors, the upper floor being more of a loft with several tables looking out at floor to ceiling windows facing 3rd Ave. I imagine the second floor is best for a date. We were settled on the first floor on a long wall running from the bar that is right at the main entrance. For drinks, we ordered the Turkish Kitchen Special Cocktail and the Manhattan - both tasty and strong for a shocking $8 - I thought I had stumbled into a happy hour after tossing out $12-14 for comparable drinks at other restaurants. We also ordered two of Turkey's own Efes beer in dark lager, which I hadn't seen in Turkey just a few weeks earlier. Instead of ordering several meat plates, hard to resist when we watched tantalizing trays of lamb and beef pass to other tables, we ordered an array of hot and cold appetizers to share. Cucik (Tsatziki) served with French bread was a great start. For the cold dishes, we settled on the Patlican Dolma - slices of chilled eggplant stuffed with rice, onion, black currants, and herbs at $6- and typical stuffed vegetarian grape leaves billed as "Yalanci Dolma" for $7. For hot dishes, we ordered the tasty Mucver (zucchini pancakes, $7) and Sigara Boregi (phyllo cigars stuffed with feta cheese, $7). Each dish had about 4 small pieces, a moderate amount for sharing, but expected for $6-7 a plate. My favorite was the Cucik, cool creamy cucumber and yogurt that left us asking for more bread to wipe the bowl clean, and the Sigara Boregi, small in size, but tasty and cheesy. The highlight of the meal was the dessert - kunefe and baklava. The baklava was typical, but the Kunefe, cut into four small pieces to share, was excellent. Light and fluffy, with the perfect amount of honey, definitely close out your meal with this great Southern Turkish sweet treat. Turkish Kitchen is a solid option for Turkish food, good for groups, and with very well-priced cocktails. I would definitely return to try the meat dishes. read more

This place is awesome. Came here with a friend for dinner -- we originally ordered from Seamless but went to the place to pick it up, and upon walking into the restaurant became immediately captivated by the wonderful, inviting ambiance and decided to eat-in and have our dishes re-heated. We ordered the doner kebab platter, one of the eggplant appetizers, a manti, and almond pudding. All were amazing (especially the meat kebab which is some of the most tender and juicy meat I've ever had) save the almond pudding which tasted like it was made out of Jell-O + some almond extract. Really flavorful, top notch food served in large portions, and wonderful, diced cube bread that's very chewy and soft. Only complaint is the almond pudding, which is 80x worse than the type they serve at Sip Sak (really legit almond pudding there) and the service is a bit bizarre in the sense that you don't have one consistent waiter. The ambiance otherwise is awesome and the food is top notch. A+ read more

The below review was for Tacis Beyti in Brooklyn, please use it to judge Tacis beyti instead of Turkish Kitchen. Is it possible they are related, and the page was renamed? Will eat at Turkish Kitchen ASAP to rectify the problem. ;) A tier up in price and fanciness from Istanbul on Bay Parkway and 86th. I can't honestly say most of it was better than Istanbul, but it sure was delicious. The kebabs were as good or better than Aksaray and Istanbul, but let's have a chat about dips. Turkish dips are special. Turkish Hummus is a creamy dream, as is Turkish Baba Ghanoush. It varies by restaurant and by country, but in general they are good at Turkish restaurants. This place has a hard-to-find Southern Turkish Hummus with Pastrami. By 'hard-to-find', I mean that there are as few as two restaurants in NYC making this regional specialty. I'm sure it would It's served Hot, with hot meat covering the top. It's not the kind of pastrami you're imagining, not like kosher deli but more like a dense spiced Salami, crisped under a broiler. It has this insanely flavorful olive oil on top. You might love it or you might hate it. Just don't eat it alone, because there is so much that it will set like concrete in your gut before you're off the block. Now, their Baba Ghanoush. Baba Ghanoush at its finest is a creamy eggplant spread, full of seeds. It might have a smoky flavor or a wine flavor, depending on how the eggplant is processed. It might be bulked up with mayonaise so the restaurant can make it go farther. They might also blend it up so fine and whipped that it is like a hummus. Not Turkish Kitchen. Theirs is amazingly creamy and consistent, without the tartness of preserving wine. You can look at it and tell there is little to no mayonaise in it, which is very important to me. Just pure, delicious eggplant puree with spices. Sometimes the simple, healthy way is also the best. Their olives are amazing, too. I regret not ordering the Shepherd Salad as it was immaculate on other tables, but I was as densely packed as doner kebab. For $70, 2 cafones like us got packed to the gills in a really fancy restaurant that is also known as one of the best in NYC. read more

I fondly remember this place from years ago after trying their lamb and first-time baklava. Back then i truly loved the food. So a friend invited me to eat here on a weeknight for dinner and tables were full. Service was fine. Nice waiter. I was bold and tried the lamb casserole. Sorry to say I didn't like it very much. The lamb was too soft for me. Everything was covered in cream. The sauce was okay. My friend ordered a conventional lamb dish and the meat was fantastic. This was something funny about our fried calamari appetizer. I don't think there was enough batter and not well-seasoned. And it was crispy enough either. Disappointed. read more

This is probably the best Turkish restaurant I have been to. I love the red theme color of the restaurant. Very charming and pleasant. I prefer to sit in the downstairs main area, but the upstairs is quite nice too. It gets very busy at the weekends, have had to wait for almost an hour once. The lamb is great here, especially baby lamb chops, so tender and juicy that you hardly even need to cut them. The fried potatoes that come with the meal are so good, perfect. I always have the cacik here which tastes very fresh. Some of the Turkish restaurants don't have mucver on the menu but here they do which is one of the reasons I started coming here. They also have very good Turkish coffee here. The service is usually flawless, but I have had some bad experiences as well here. That time the waiter was obviously new but still very bad service, not checking if we needed anything despite trying to get his attention constantly. That time the meat was not the best either, we asked for medium rare lamb, we had to send it back three times because it kept coming back bloody in the middle. Finally, we did get the lamb back and not bloody inside, perhaps by that time with some spit in it, but definately not red on the inside. Dissapointing since we had come here to celebrate someones birthday which we happened to mentioned to the waiter. We mentioned to the manager that we were not happy with the service that evening and he told us: Next time I will take care of it. Not sure what that means, but ok. A few months earlier we had been here for dinner and we were told to fill out a customer satisfaction questionnaire. We were supposed to get a 10 usd gift certificate in the mail a few weeks later. The next time we came back we asked what happened to the gift certificate and were told it would come in the mail on my birthday and as my birthday had not happened yet, that's why we didn't get it in the mail. Since then I have I have had two birthdays and still no gift certificate. For the above reasons I would downgrade the rating for this restaurant to 4,5 instead of 5. But 9/10 ten times the more experienced waiters are very attentive and take your orders fast. Once we were given a free fruit platter at the end of the meail which was a very nice surprise. Meh - I probably wont be back. This was my first time trying Turkish food and a lot of the dishes are on the sour side. I asked and apparently a lot of yogurt or lemon juice is a component of the foods. I'm not a big fan of sour foods, but if you are, then I say give Turkish Kitchen a try! It's cool bc this is the restaurant's 20th year in business! On the upside, I ordered a lamb and okra dish with rice and everything was cooked nicely. The lamb was very tasty. Everyone else's dishes seemed fine too. Service was sub-par. Couldn't get the waiter and they were super slow. Decor is very wierd - it's like a 90s club? You would never have imagined that inside the dull exterior lies a relatively stylish restaurant with a full bar and two floors. It's really quite amazing. We got a great 20% off deal for their 20 year anniversary so that was neat. I recently came back from Turkey and wanted to try out Turkish food in Manhattan since I now recognize the ingredients and the dishes (and I can pronounce words in Turkish!) I got the ajili ezme, the wonderful paste I remember having had in Ayvalik. It was not the same. It looked like and tasted just like salsa. Disappointing. My main dish was a special which was thinly sliced grilled lamb with pureed eggplant in a light tomato sauce. It was kind of gross - I took a few bites of the lamb and had to stop, and could not even bear to smell the sauce. Maybe it's just me, but I think they put something buttery in there and I do not like butter. The lamb was ok but definitely cannot compare to Turkey. The eggplant puree tasted nothing like eggplant - it was no different than mashed potato. I should've gotten a shish kebab and just be done with it. The plus was that our dinner was 3 hours and the staff never hurried us and there were really attractive people :) read more

Amazing Turkish cuisine! What else can I say? The food is delectable! And this comes from a Greek guy... ;) The decor is a little too dark for my taste, but the food makes up for that more than 100%. The lahmazun is one of the best appetizers and so is the ocli kofte. And of course all the desserts, a well known Turkish specialty, are simply exquisite. Not too sweet or heavy, just the right amount of sweetness. The shredded phyllo dough of the kunefe or the kataifi will send you to heaven. Delicious food, good service and fair prices. They have a lot of promotional events ($22 all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch etc) that you should take advantage of too. read more

FENA DEĞİL, AMA... We used to go to Turkish Kitchen. But a decade ago, we began but stopped a decade ago, in favor of Ali Baba. It was closed on Christmas Day, so we opted for Turkish Kitchen. I hope management of both restaurants takes my comments as constructive criticism. The more Turkish restaurants, the better; and I like seeing Turks succeed. Turkish Kitchen was better in one thing. Patlican salatasi was utterly outstanding: smoky, creamy. But its management may want to look to Ali Baba in other areas. No Uludağ Gazoz. Acili ezme tasted like salsa. Kahve (orta) was a bit watery. Staff forgot to pack one of our left-overs to go. Prices. In fairness, perhaps some of the usual staff were off for Christmas. read more

My cousin introduced me to this awesome spot about two years ago. Pretty much the reason why I have cravings for Turkish (and Greek) foods now. Ate here again for my birthday this year so I'll go by that. Appetizer - Manti: little beef dumplings in a yogurt sauce. yum yum yum, nice doughy texture with just enough meat. This is about half the size of the entree portion. Entree: Iskender Kebab: dismantle a gyro, increase the awesomeness of the lamb, take out toppings, amp up the yogurt sauce. SO GOOD. Dessert - Baklava: Sweet (without overdoing it) and flaky. Pistachio flavor is definitely present and works well with the sweetness. Overall a VERY satisfying meal. They send you a coupon for your birthday if you sign up for it. I highly recommend you sign up for this if you plan on returning. read more

I was craving for lahmacun! When I discovered this place I was more than happy! We ordered Patlican salatasi which was creamy and smoky, just as home made! Then Coban salatasi tomatos in here tasted like they we're cut and left in kitchen for weeks and weeks! Obviously wasn't fresh! Then I got my lahmacun, the size wasn't what I expected but they tasted pretty good! 3 little pieces of it, if u wanna really enjoy your lahmacun go to another places like Anka grill or Ali baba! As our main dish we got Lamb chops with bulgur rice! Chops are really good I enjoyed them very much! Medium well juicy meat which melt in your mouth! With very reasonable price! But only thing waitresses should be lil careful with what they say in Russian there are a lot of Russian speaking Turks))) Otherwise place & food is good compare to some other places! read more

We had brunch at Turkish Kitchen recently. It's hard to find a place that vegetarians and meat eaters both thoroughly enjoy but Turkish Kitchen had all of us eating happily and well. There are healthy options as well as splurges. I loved the taramasalata, the dips, grilled vegetables, grilled fish, fresh fruit and amazing desserts. Very disappointing meal. Service was terribly slow. The food was very overpriced and lacking in almost every way. A street vendor gyro would have been much tastier and 1/4 of the price. The wine was similarly overpriced and disappointing. Nearly $200 meal for 4. The worst meal I've had in NYC in many years. I'm usually very accommodating and forgiving. My hubby and I had planned to go to Vatan across the street but they were booked solid and we were hungry so we wandered into Turkish Kitchen. It was absolutely amazing! I had the cornish hen with Turkish rice, fried zucchini and my husband had something similar to a lamb pot pie. The portion were generous and so were the spices! Everything was fresh and even the service was great. We had a waiter who told us all his favorite dishes and why he loved them. He was such an advocate for the restaurant. They were having a 20th year celebration and were offering 20% off from a la carte orders. So we saved up to about $25 off the total bill. Not bad. Food was also not bad. We started with some hot appetizers like the Arnavut Cigeri and the Patlican Salatasi. The first is actually calf's liver, which has been breaded and fried. Most of the members in our party disliked eating liver. It always brought back bad memories of how our mothers would steam this vital organ, serve it in its entire form and force us to eat it. But today, no mom had to give us a scolding. We all had bites of the little nuggets of liver and we all loved it. The second appetizer we got was the mashed eggplant and it was a really smooth puree. It went well with the rolls that they served. The ladies in our table sipped some martinis. One was the Turkish Kitchen Martini and the other, their pomegranate martini. Both were really good, and surprisingly affordable. For our main course, we ordered 2 plates of their Etli Yaprak Dolmasi (grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, rice and herbs), 2 plates of Sis Kebabs, and 1 Izgara Kofte (char-grilled ground lamb seasoned with Turkish spices). All were so flavorful and the kebabs were perfectly cooked! The pan-fried potatoes seemed a little out of place; I'd rather have lots of rice or some traditional Turkish sides. But, they were a hit with the kids, of course, because it was like having french fries on the side. As soon as we finished our meals, our waiter presented us with a platter of a variety of Turkish desserts. Of course, silly me, I thought he was giving us the whole plate! We decided that we were too full for sweets but my daughter was eyeing the Kayisi, their stuffed apricots. Just as I guessed, she had about 2 pieces and all of us had to force some more room in our gut for it! Service was very good. We just walked in and they found a table for us on the second level. Initially, we were the only patrons upstairs and it worried us that we'd have a hard time getting served. But, turned out, the waiter stood by the whole time, waiting for whatever we needed. After recalibrating my toy compass, I set out again on the journey I was supposed to make a week ago. This time I decided to use a novel approach - calibrate the compass to take me to the "actual address", and bypass any restaurants along the way that sound or look similar. : ) Second time was a charm. Being in a Mediterranean mood, I started off with "Yalanci Dolma" - Vine leaves stuffed with rice, onions pine nuts, black currants, and herbs. Served as a salad, and with the squeeze of lime this dish comes alive with flavor, while refreshing at the same time. For the entree I selected "Izgara Kofte" - Char grilled ground lamb seasoned with Turkish spices (basically a Turkish meatball), and served with a little rice and pan-fried potatoes. A strait forward dish that has great lamb flavor without being overpowering. The dish was executed well, and I decided to stay...just a little bit longer. For desert. I could not resist. : ) Ordered the poached apricots stuffed with almonds and Turkish cream, and sprinkled with brown sugar. A simple yet great little desert. 4.5 Arigato Dorami !!! read more

I've never tried Turkish food in a restaurant before, so this was a new and pleasant experience. The closest thing I've tried were the chicken and rice carts. The food and service here was excellent and makes the lamb on the street carts like garbage. They serve you complimentary bread and pita, which were really good (my friend said that even the olive oil was good because it had a fruity taste). I got the lamb casserole for my entree that the waiter spooned onto a plate of rice for me, complete with decorative sauce drawing of a smiley face :). The meat was really tender, didn't stink of the usual bloody meat taste/smell that lamb tends to have, and the portions were big. We also got baklava and rice pudding. I've tried baklava once before and remembered it to be overly sweet and sticky, but theirs redeemed baklava for me. It was flaky, sweet, and sprinkled with pistachio. The rice pudding was not overly sweet and had a nice creamy texture. I can't compare this to other Turkish restaurants as this is my first, but I truly enjoyed my meal and the service here. Service- our server was horrible, she took forever to take orders. I actually requested to have some roasted peppers on the side, which of course they weren't there.. I finally get my food with no peppers and I reminder her again, no action was taken. I finally finished my meal without the peppers and I told her to forget about them because I was done. She started to make excuses. I DON'T CARE TO KNOW WHOS FAULT it was, I wasn't happy. Food: Salads very good, lamb chops extremely salty and I totally disliked the manti.. We were having dinner with a group of vegetarians, and this place was great! There were plenty of options and each dish was flavorful, unique and well-prepared. I highly recommend the onion / zucchinin pancake and the grilled veggies. Honestly, everything we ate was yummy. The Turkish beer was a great accompaniment. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly and we walked out of the restaurant feeling like we'd had a fancy dinner! read more

I've been to the Turkish Kitchen twice, once for lunch and the other for dinner. Both times I had tried different dishes. The place was quite red, the walls are painted bright orange red. I was told that this makes a person more hungry from a psychological perspective? Service was quite nice, they take your order, they bring you food, and occasionally refill your glasses of water. Lunch -- Icli Kofte - This was tasty, grounded lamb with spices in wheat patty (shaped like a mini football) laying on a bed of lettuce. I just wished they gave more than just one piece. Etli Bamya - Okra, tomato, and lamb all stewed together. Served with rice on the side, I thought this was too sour and salty. Sour as in tomato sour, it just wasn't pleasant to the taste buds. Dinner -- Sigara Boregi - Basically a spring roll that is filled with cheese. They were skinny but overall good. Arnavut Cigeri - This was just lovely, calf's liver sauteed with onions and parsley. The extra lemon juice on it makes it that much more appetizing. As for my entrees I don't remember what I had but I remember trying the Izgara Kofte, and it was good. The best part would be their potatoes because they taste just like fries, seasoned perfectly with salt. But the ground lamb wasn't flavored enough. The rice was fluffy and had a bit of a sticky texture which I love. Truthfully, I don't know how Turkish food is suppose to be like but this place serves some yummy food. read more

I've been hearing about Turkish Kitchen from friends for years. Having traveled to Turkey (as you may know), I love Turkish cuisine and always look forward to giving new restaurants a try. I went with a few friends on a recent Sunday evening and had a great time. The service, décor, atmosphere and food all make for a great experience. We started with a few appetizers (eggplant dip, zucchini pancakes, season salad (mixed salad) and fried chicken livers) and everything was excellent. The presentation is spot-on and the portions are generous. For my main, I had the lamb shish kebab which was also very good. There was an extremely generous serving of lamb accompanied with your typical grilled vegetables and rice. Everyone else was really happy with what they ate and it's nice to see some less-popular Turkish items on the menu. I'd have to stay that my favorite thing, far and away, was the almond pudding for dessert. We also ordered baklava and halva (yeah, we're gluttons), but the almond pudding was a stand-out. Milky, full of almonds and served in a huge portion. I could enjoy that just as a meal. The servers were attentive and friendly. The dining room is decorated with Turkish flourishes and it was surprisingly crowded, even on a Sunday night (though now I see why). If you're in the Gramercy/Murray Hill area looking for a great Turkish restaurant, this is it. read more

This place is much larger than what it looks like from the outside. They have a small bar area in the front and large bi-level dining area. The place has grandeur and tackiness at the same time. The staff are very cordial but may be a but pushy. The food however, is very good. My grilled quail dish was very good. It was my first time having quail but was pleasantly surprised by all the flavor packed in such a small bird. The rice and zucchini pancake that came with my dish were also delectable. I got a little taste of the lamb dish with yogurt sauce and was also very good. They have all you can eat brunch and prix fixe lunches, so will have to try that next time. read more

Just had a fantastic Friday night dinner at Turkish Kitchen. I loved every single dish we ordered. The bread is ridiculously good - we had the waiters refill our basket several times. Our appetizers of Manti (tiny rich dumplings in yogurt sauce), Tamara Salatasi (red caviar spread with olive oil) and the shepherd salad were so good. I was skeptical of the red caviar spread but it is very light and tasty on the bread and a good alternative to an order of hummus. My favorite main dish was sliced lamb served with grilled eggplant. It was so tender and melt in your mouth amazing that I seriously think I need to come back for more every week. it was that ridiculously tasty. The cocktails are only $8 so we went through several rounds of martinis too. If you have to wait for a table, make sure that you ask Bora the Greek bartender for a french martini. read more
