We used to be regulars when we had membership to the aquarium. It's been 10 years since our last visit. The food is still great. There are more tables now, but still cozy. Feta cheese wrapped in thin phyllo dough and fried. Addicting!!!! Crunchy, salt, satisfying!!! I had the lamb shish on a pita. The lamb was deliciously seasoned and very tender!! The pita was soft and warm.... I wanted to eat the whole pillowy soft deliciousness!!! I was full after eating the lamb! My GF ordered the chicken shish in a wrap. My gps took us to the back which was right on the water, or maybe this was considered the front, not sure. We sat outside on picnic tables under umbrellas. The wait staff was ultra nice and charming. Everything was clean. We ordered the cigars for an appetizer and true to past reviews, they were delicious. I ordered the veg and falafel, it was very good. It came over rice and another type of grain similar but not barley. I skipped the rice but the other grain was very tasty. There was also salad on the plate. The portion was large so I took it home with me. All and all, a delicious and positive lunch experience. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely come back. read more

Food was good but the service was absolutely the worst. We made a reservation a week prior for 10 for a birthday celebration and they put us at a 6 top by the bathroom and back door. The bathroom door also the walk in fridge so every time someone would go through, they'd leave the door open and cold air would rush over our table. At one point the porter went to take out the smelliest garbage right next to us and the smell went over our whole table making us all gag. Our server was a nice young man, he did what he could to make a better experience by telling jokes but the owner was nasty to my father and the daughter was horrible to us as well. Nice surprise in Riverhead. Situated next to the river walk, this gem has nice outdoor tables with umbrellas and very solidy Turkish food. Went two times for lunch and we were very impressed with the lamb chops, hummus, Turkish cigars (fried pastry rolls with feta cheese), fried liver (it's really good). Rice was hit or miss. I'm being a little generous to Turkish grill as everything needed a punch of flavor; the atmosphere and vibe was cute but I didn't like the parking lot and road right there, I liked the bulgar and the dishes but they all needed a bit of seasoning, the eggplant dip was good but we needed to salt n pepper it, lamb was good but there were five small pieces and they were all chewy, it was just a lot of that type of thing running throughout the night. We liked everything but we were really just so close to loving it, we wanted to, because it's almost that perfect quaint hidden gem and it's some of our favorite type of food... can't say much else. read more

I really tried to like this place. I love ordered various dishes at various times. They're all pretty bad. The meat doesn't taste fresh, the falafel is dry, the sauces aren't anything better than you get at Mediterranean Grill (Fastfood). It's fine if you do for a fast food thing but this place charges as if it's exquisite Turkish dining and it just isn't. My husband is from this region and refuses to eat at this restaurant after our first try. I've continued but I'm always left disappointed. read more

Bon and I visited Riverhead Sunday as a diversion from the daily Covid grind. Turkuaz has a cute outside dining area in the rear fronting onto the River Front Walk. No rezzys, so we parked and walked to the outdoor area and luckily snagged a nice table. All personnel wore masks and were covid compliant. We started with a Chardonnay and a Corona ($4/btl). Ordered appys of Hummus and a Shepard Salad. For mains we ordered Lamb Shish; tender, tasty and delish! and Grilled Salmon, also very nice portion grilled to perfection. Tasty food and great views make this place a winner. Was visiting Riverhead with a Turkish friend and came across this place so we decided to try it. The staff was very friendly when we walked in but once he started speaking Turkish, it was even nicer. We started with a cold appetizer sampler. The eggplant and spicy vegetables were very good but the surprise was the carrots. I'm usually not a huge carrot fan but I loved the shredded carrot dish. I combined that with the hummus and found my new favorite snack. For an entree, we split the beyti, which was ground beef wrapped in pastry and topped with a yogurt sauce. My friend thought it was a little spicy but I thought it was great. We were too stuffed to have dessert, although they had some that looked great. We sat inside because it looked like rain outside but the patio is gorgeous and they have a large amount of seating outside with beautiful views of the Peconic River. What a gem! Turkuaz has been around 12 years and I'm glad to find it. The Iskender kabob had quality, fresh ingredients- sliced lamb, pita yogurt and tomato. They have a very well priced menu and are across the street from the River Walk. Ample free parking and outside seating (w/o heat lamps) . Excellent, friendly and prompt service. The owner was so nice. For inside they left the door or window open. I sat outside in mid 50 degree weather for dinner and it was fine. Let me start with saying I am a foodie and just recently relocated to Suffolk county. I was looking for a good Mediterranean restaurant by me since it's one of my favorite types of food. This place is a really cute water front restaurant with great food which I would've became a regular to if I didn't encounter such poorly behavior by one of the staff members. **My two waiters were really nice. But they did forget to get me extra pita for my hummus after asking twice, I also did arrive there around 8:30 pm to eat but it didn't seem like a problem until I ordered dessert. After eating I ordered dessert for my husband, son and myself and it was no later then 9:20 pm it was then when this short bald headed man wearing a black shirt came and turned off all the lights by the area where I was sitting which I felt was extremely disrespectful and made me very uncomfortable. I couldn't see my food and I was in the middle of finishing my wine and dessert . We weren't the only table there either there was another table with about 6 people and I don't understand why we were the only ones pointed out and treated in that manner. They could've simply said "is there anything else you need ?because we are closing soon" Simple !! I also had already paid for the bill and was trying to finish up So I can't understand what was the problem because the other table hadn't even asked for their check yet. I have never in my life been treated with such poor manners and Rude behavior. This man made me feel like I was less then others and he is the reason why I will never go back. It doesn't matter how good the food is if you don't know how to treat your customers who are paying to keep your business up and running. I can't even. This place is a GEM! I would say "hidden gem" but that would insinuate people don't know... Apparently I'm the only one! The reviews are spot on (the pictures too, which is why I didn't feel badly devouring my food before taking any). The flavors are incredible. I my first (and thus only) experience was take-out and based on that I already give them A++. I can't wait to dine in. The "Turkish Cigars" are heavenly. Perfectly crisp philo wrapped feta with a delightfully-light garlicky yogurt dip (think tzatziki but 100x more delish). I tried the kabobs (Lamb and another) and they were excellent! I've never liked bulgar....and theirs is AWESOME. The only thing I did not care for is the one thing everyone else raves about (the beet salad, but only bc it tastes like...wait for it...BEETS.
