I enjoyed coming to this shop a lot. I was going to go to Yogurtland for dessert, but Yogurtland is everywhere and this place looked unique and one of a kind, so I decided to stop by and I'm glad I did. It has so much pop of color, so much flow, so much good energy. Though, it was very busy in design, it was still a very chill place to be, very relaxing. The service was fantastic, the young lady who helped me was so kind and patient with me. I was down to my last $13 for my trip and I wanted dessert. She helped me make the right decision for me. She was really great, I really appreciate her, and I didn't even spend the whole $13. Prices are reasonable there. I got the dolewhip in the cone with almonds, mini mochi, and caramel. So delicious. It was indeed made with love, as it was made to order. I got lucky with my photos because a huge crowd came in after I placed my order, so don't let my photos fool you. This place does get busy. There were six people when I got there that were leaving and about twelve when I left. I highly recommend Turn Dough if you want a refreshing treat, especially to walk around at the promenade or Ocean Ave. read more

My review is for the kindness and service. I brought my three kids here while visiting Santa Monica for a weekend. It looked fun, colorful and different than the usual ice cream/cold treat experience. The pricing was very high, if I'm being honest, a little outrageous. However, this was a special weekend and a special treat so I decided to indulge. My daughter ordered the watermelon slushie, one son ordered strawberry milkshake and my other ordered the pink colada milk shake. They are kids so they asked for gummies as toppings. I ordered the biscoff shake. My son who usually loves a pina colada drink thought his was too sour. I didn't think it was bad- just different than our usual flavor we are used to. When I asked the girl at the counter who made our drinks if she could remake him another drink, she did without hesitation. She was so kind about it, and didn't charge us. She recommended the Nutella shake and it did not disappoint. I also enjoyed the biscoff shake. For her kindness and willingness alone, I would return again. More businesses should reflect their same approach when it comes to customer service. read more

Turn Dough is a brand new spot to get sweet treats in Santa Monica! I've walked past this a couple of times per week for the last several months, and the 4th of July is the first time I've seen it open, so I decided to give it a shot! The menu has several options including boba teas, coffee, and crepes, but the soft serve section offers the biggest variety of options. Choose between about 15 menu options, or build your own, add toppings, flavor drizzles, and add a cinnamon sugar chimney cone filled with a spread of your choice (Nutella, cookie butter, or dulce de leche). The soft serve flavors are vanilla gelato or pineapple Dole whip. Toppings include fresh fruit, Oreos, sprinkles, nuts, cereals, M&Ms, and other options, and chocolate, caramel, and raspberry are the drizzle sauce options. For those looking for something crazy, Turn Dough also lets you add edible 24K gold and/or CBD oil, though I didn't try either. For those looking for something less crazy or messy, milkshakes are an option as well. While at first glance it's a little expensive, the serving sizes are definitely big enough to split between two people, especially if you "make it upside down," which gets you a little extra ice cream for $1. (Note that the edible gold specialty option starts at $32.90, it's definitely its own category.) You can tell this is new -- it's super clean, and there isn't a single table to sit inside, just a couple of stand up counter spaces. Hopefully they add some tables soon to encourage more people to eat inside. Overall, I thought the gelato creation was tasty. It's a lot of sugar (yes, ice cream usually is, but all the toppings, sauces, and chimney cone made it feel especially sweet, even to a sweet tooth like me), but a yummy cold treat for a summer day. We spent the day as a family of four at the Santa Monica Pier. We rode rides, enjoyed the sea breeze, and laughed a lot. On the way back we remembered Turn Dough's new store announcement on Instagram. We decided that would be our treat stop. My wife does not usually go for dough, so she had the Dubai Chocolate gelato bowl (rich and gorgeous, like a little trip in itself). Our daughters went straight for the San Francisco chimney cakes! They were covered with unicorn sprinkles and fondant, the exact sort of magic kids dream about. And for me, it was French crêpes with a milkshake, because sometimes you just have to go all in. Everything was delightful: the food, the energy, the staff who made us feel like regulars from the very first hello. The space is creative, the kind of place where you look around and think, I want to come back here again. We left full, happy, and already telling friends about it. This was the most disappointing dessert shop experience we have ever had. We were willing to pay the insane price, but when we got our food I was stunned. It was $27 subtotal for a crepe and a the "nutella dream" ice cream. They only had 1 flavor of ice cream despite being labeled as an ice cream store, but fine. It was supposed to be all done up and cravable looking according to their visual menu, but what was given fell flat- both tastes wise and looks wise. For it being labeled as an "artisan gelato bowl" it is anything but. This certainly is very far from actual technical gelato (not the taste, texture, flavor, buttercream amount, etc). And far from artisan. The vanilla ice cream (their only flavor option) tasted very poorly and had a thin drizzle of nutella (whereas the crepe had tons of nutella both inside and outside! What the heck!! Give the ice cream peeps what was promised!!) - the crepe was overly sweet and had a small amount of toppings when compared to the images in the store for their visual menu. After 2 spoonfuls of ice cream I decided to throw it out since it literally did not even taste good, and we also threw out the crepe since it was intensely over-sweet. Incredibly disappointing, do not trust the images of their menu items because it aint tasty and it aint gonna happen. read more
