This is one of my professors' favorite places to get Portuguese egg tarts, so obviously my friends and I needed to check it out. I can see why he loves it -- the egg tarts are very custardy and rich, with a lightly eggy flavor but the sweetness from heavy cream in each bite contrasting to the flaky crust. We also got the red velvet cheesecake, which was pretty standard. The strawberry and cream cookie was massive and I loved the strawberry flavor! It was a little too sweet for me but for the average American palette is probably perfect. Friends who came to have dinner with us requested that they be allowed to bring dessert. Well...YES! We were delighted with the box of cookies and tarts that they brought from Paderia in Santa Monica. The chocolate chip walnut cookies were fat and soft with a slightly crisp exterior. The thickness of them allowed a plethora of rich chips to reside inside. I'm not a fan of chunks of nuts in cookies but these were chopped in tiny pieces, so did not take away from the overall soft texture. The soft peanut butter chocolate cookie was also a huge fattie with peanut butter chips within the chocolate cookie. Both were enhanced with a quick warm-up. I loved both of these cookies and think the chocolate chip is the very best you'll ever find. We also had Portuguese egg tarts. The pastel de nata (if I recall, this is what they are called) I ate was small but good, but I have had others that were more to my liking, with a sweeter custard and a more caramelized top, which I guess is a personal preference. I have always wanted to pick up cookies from this place for my husband but they're so expensive! At least $6.50 each!! I picked up two - cookies & cream and the chocolate walnut, and they did not disappoint! The service was so wonderful, and the staff were helpful in my selection. I wanted to like this place so much. I loved the set up when you first walk in. Everything looks enticing. It's nice being able to order on the screen since you don't feel rushed and can see all the options, and they have a good variety. They even had taste testers available, not sure if they always have those available. Everything was amazing service wise. As for the taste, everything from food to drinks were like a sugar bomb went off in my mouth. Overload of sweetness. Portions are big so you can share and you'll want to be ause one bite should satisfy your sweet tooth for the next year. The texture of the cookies was incredible though! Came to this coffee shop to check it out! Met with a kind cashier who knew a lot about their menu & food They had samples of a chocolate & peanut butter cookie that was delicious! Their food typically runs out/ sells out later in the day. Their drinks are phenomenal! They make their horchata in house and I've never had a better one It's not too sweet, not too watery, has great flavor. The ambiance is quiet. Ube cheesecake -- skip it. We've had many great ube cheesecakes elsewhere (Cafe 86, for example), and this one didn't compare. It tasted more like a floral essence than ube, and the ube flavor was barely there. We didn't even finish it, which was disappointing for $8.75. The cheese ensaymada had good flavor, but the bread itself was very dry and not fluffy like a traditional ensaymada. It's hard to overlook the dryness for $5.25. The ube coconut latte was really good. Ha! So glad there's a PADERIA BAKEHOUSE in the west side. Now we don't have to drive 40 miles to sample their goodies. Early in the morning, the area isn't too crowded yet and we were able to find availalbe street metered parking in front of the bakehouse. There was no line to get in and no line to order. Their CHEESE ENSAYMADA is giant, calorific, delicious and totally worth it. The TRIPLE CHOCOLATE COOKIE was worth whatever pounds I gain. Cute shop. This is a very small and cute location. I love that the cookies are thick with a chewy center. The person helping us didn't offer any suggestions or pleasantries. We notice after making our purchase that they had samples of the cookies off to the side. They also had lattes but didn't try this time around. We purchased three cookies. The Strawberry and Cookies and Cream was my favorite. The salted Chocolate chip was better warmed up. The instructions does suggest warming up for a few seconds. We tired both ways cold and warm. This spot is a hidden gem that I haven't heard much about. I'm always on the hunt for the best ube latte. And I think Paderia gets the gold medal. The staff is extremely kind and gives great recommendations. I was told all syrups are made by the Bakehouse. You can taste the high quality in the coffee. The ube is sweet, but not overly sweet. It blends well with the espresso and has a smooth cohesive flavor. There's some cookie crumble bits which I thought is a special touch. I also tried the pastel de nata. This comes pretty close to the ones I've had in Lisbon. It's super buttery and has a crispy top. Paderia is pretty good. Two of their cookies are as good as Levain. Like seriously the chocolate peanut butter is an almost exact match. The chocolate chip is another perfect cookie. The shell is so flaky, soft and crispy all at the same time with excellent flavor. Then the filling is filled with flavor. Exceptional treat. Their coffees truly have an excellent bite to them. The cookies are huge, sugary and indulgent, packed with chips of whatever flavor you get. I've had the Chocolate Peanut Butter (divine), Sea Salt Chocolate Chip (superb), and the double chocolate (richer than Scrooge McDuck). Prices aren't bad, big parking lot, and always the nicest staff. Like above and beyond friendly. They have a few chairs to sit at and enjoy outside which brings me to the tiniest of gripes. Had heard good things about Padetia, and a friend told me to go check it out, that it was on par with either cookie location based off of New York, and I have high outside for that establishment, so off to Paderia I went. Tried two cookies, which are my two favorite at this other piece, since I was supposed to compare the two. The chocolate walnut cookie was very nice, with walnuts and pecans inside. And, when warned up, the chocolate in the middle is nice and gooey, making for a very nice bite with a little crispness on the outside. The oatmeal raisin was also good, with just the right amount of raisins to go with the oatmeal. Not overly sweet which is always nice when it comes to cookies. They were both good cookies in their own right, however, compared with this other bakery, I would say they are definitely in second place, though, second place, when compared to the many bakeries around, isn't a bad place to be in. read more

I'm not kidding when I say I dream about the cookies here all the time. The triple chocolate is my favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. They are super thick and rich, so you may not be able to finish one by yourself if you don't have a big sweet tooth (I personally never have this problem though). If you're not in the mood for cookies, Paderia also sells ensaymadas, Portuguese egg tarts, cheesecake, and banana pudding. They have a unique drink menu as well with a mix of coffees, teas, and horchatas. The inside of the bakery feels modern and inviting, and it always smells amazing because everything is baked fresh each morning. You will always find me coming back here since the quality is consistent from the Irvine location to Fountain Valley. The banana pudding is amazing , better than Magnolia Bakery. It's sweet ( but not too sweet), doesn't have that fake banana flavor , good vanilla notes and lots of wafer + banana pieces. The cold brew has notes of cinnamon and chocolate , it's smooth, not very bitter like most other cold brews. I hate cold brews but will willingly get this one. They rotate the cookie flavors but my favorite will forever be a white chocolate strawberry cookie. Sweet from the chocolate, tart from the strabwerry, soft texture and rich flavor from the butter ( they are very rich cookies). The staff at both locations are very friendly and never seem bothered by questions. read more

Honestly the owner of this place should be ashamed of themselves. ix dollars for a cookie but to top it off... Never had this circumstance... You literally have to pay extra for it to be hot or cold when you're ordering it online. So a coffee is on average 750 to 8 dollars for a latte. Additionally, there was a new employee in here. You could tell she was overwhelmed, and she was the only person working. She apologized profusely and worked as efficiently as she could. I really felt bad for her and as an owner you should be in there on the front lines working with your employees when you are shortstaffed like this. It's not even a busy place . Will not be back. You can't pay me to be back here. To the girl working here, there are much better jobs out there for you with employers who will respect you read more
