We went here for breakfast and had the turn scramble, the arepa, and the biscuit flight. The turn scramble was great. It is scrambled eggs, brie cheese, leeks, and mushrooms. The scramble was smooth with a little creaminess to it. The side mixed greens has a very flavorful citrus balsamic dressing. The arepa is a corncake with green chili, egg, and cheese. It was something unique I hadn't seen on other menus. I would have preferred with some more of the green chili. The biscuit flight is a treat. There is a cheese biscuit, a rosemary, a sage and black pepper, and a white chocolate with marshmallow. The cheese and the sage with black pepper were my favorite. I liked the Turn atmosphere displaying a wall of album covers from long ago in the age of the turn table. :). The biscuit flight was really good. The pepper & sage one was okay but the other 3 (strawberry cream cheese, buttermilk, and kale & cheddar) were delicious! The honey complimented the kale one nicely. My LEO was also really good--I like that he put it on toast instead of a biscuit, even though he does biscuits beautifully. The food at Turn is soooo good! A friend and I recently went for the first time for brunch and we really enjoyed ourselves. It's such a dope vibe on the inside and I love the record wall. We even got to meet owner/Executive Chef David Kirkland and he was such a cool and down to Earth guy to talk to. I am here again giving a review because I don't have anything else to do. Sooooo, I walked 45 minutes to this restaurant hoping for a nice vibe and a memorable theme. I didn't get any of that but I did get good food. I ordered the classic breakfast and it was tasty also the Brussels sprouts was okay too. I wish the owner created a vibe in the space but I didn't feel one. The music sounded muffled so I wasn't digging that. It needs more black art and music but maybe if they do that it will make the white people feel uncomfortable and not enjoy a good meal. I was the only black queen there so I was a bit disappointed with that. But if your in St. Louis and looking for an extremely chill spot with natural lighting this is the place to go. This place just made our tummy extremely happy. To be able to kickstart the day with some awesome pancakes with maple syrup, Appolonia mimosa which has cimarron tequila and grapefruit, just amazing. I love the restaurant's philosophy of farm-to-table emphasizing relationship with the local farmers, and being able to mix flavors in a palate happy way while ensuring the food is super fresh! Chef Kirkland is the man behind this restaurant scene. My 4 year old ate his entire French toast (which is unusual in his case). I had a Lago Vinho Verde wine which was good as well. The caprese salad was ok. Everything else was absolutely amazing. The vegetarian slinger was so delicious (it's a blue corn waffle with vegetarian Chile on top) with two eggs done per your preference. We got the eggs as fully fried. Also liked the cauliflower bites. When we were leaving there was a big line outside waiting to get in. Guess we got lucky with out timing (10.45am). Very good customer service as well.. read more

Went to Turn on Sunday for brunch. Tasty!! I had the breakfast sandwich with smoked duck and Brussel sprouts . I ate it all and enjoyed a Mezcal Paloma with it. My husband had a cheddar burger with the truffle fries and he said his burger was cooked like he likes it( an authentic medium) and was seasoned good. Daughter had the French toast with chicken sausage. She enjoyed the toast but took most of the sausage to go. Sausage was good I enjoyed the rich herbal seasonings in the handmade patties. The service was attentive by our waiter . Funny story, another employee came to take my plate because it appeared to him I was finished. I had a last bite of sprouts remaining. I was conversating with the family and caught my plate as he was trying to move it. I was saying " Hold on , wait..., " when I looked up , it was the chef . The dining room was spacious with high top tables, low tables and wall high windows covering 2 sides of the restaurant providing a nice view of the artsy area. I had the Creole Grits with soft scrambled eggs which were all cooked perfectly. It was seasoned perfectly with andouille sausage, okra and chic peas I believe. Took my teen kids and adult nephew here for lunch. Wow. Really delicious food! The kids ordered from the super scrumptious special menu. My impression is that this changes often. For today, they had a Turn burger with some amazing Tomato Jam. Paired with some incredibly well seasoned fries, this was delicious - fresh patty cooked perfectly. The seasoning on the fries was some kind of house made barbecue seasoning. We tried to buy some but no dice. (Boo!). The only complaint for the burger was the bread didn't hold up well for the whole experience. My son ordered the Steak and Eggs special which was basically a pseudo Eggs Benedict with steak medallions, a goat cheese sauce along with the traditional poached egg and muffin. Blue cheese was somehow blended in, but couldn't tell. I ordered the Arepa from the standard menu. This is a unique Benedict with corn cake, chorizo and a yummy sauce along with a guacamole. This was well seasoned and did not need hot sauce. Service was friendly although the staffing was a bit odd. It wasn't busy, but we had a few people serving. I am assuming they were busy in the back. Prices are high, but the food is fresh and you can tell that a artisan crafted it. I think that's worth the extra $$$ We will be back. read more

What a wonderful lunch, a friend and I had at Turn today. While I generally stick with breakfast fare, today, I tried their Brie LT. It was terrific ! A wonderful mix of flavors (both tart and sweet), excellently prepared and presented. My side dish of Orange sesame cauliflower bites exhibited a similar mix of flavors. I have to say I was a little underwhelmed with their breakfast. While the huge, bright loft apartment style restaurant is nice and welcoming and a great place to a have an appropriately socially distanced breakfast, the some of food fell short of my expectations. I sincerely appreciated their temperature checks, the staff was friendly and courteous and all the tables were definitely more than 6 feet apart. There are big bay windows overlooking the street, and the music posters on the brick wall is a classy touch. Now for the food, the 4 of us split the following :- Quinoa bowl: This highly reviewed dish was unfortunately oversalted. All it contained was quinoa, sunny side up eggs and one green. Honestly thought there would have been more "seasonal vegetables". I was close to returning this, but had never done so before, and gulped it down with a frown. Arepa: The combination of ingredients is light and flavorful. The chorizo was well cooked, Chilli Verde was hot, the over easy eggs just flow over all the ingredients and pairs well with the crisp corn cake. Baked egg: Looks like a quiche! splendid, perfectly seasoned, healthy and a good portion. It wasn't on the online menu but available in the restaurant. Key lime flavored pancakes with key lime flavored syrup: sweet and tangy, soft and fluffy.. These left us drooling even after we left the place! Even though the experience as a whole wasn't as delightful as I would have liked, I may try them out again! read more

This place was Amazing. I'm celiac so look for great places that both I and my non gf family can enjoy. The gf app had great reviews of their gf pancakes so we checked them out. They weren't kidding. They were big and super tasty. They had a nice crisp to them and were slightly sweet. They reminded me of a funnel cake or donut and it was heavenly. I usually have to add a lot of butter and sometimes extra syrup to my pancakes, but not with these. It barely needed either. So good, but do call ahead to make sure they have them that day. The rest of the food was great too. Thick cut bacon, beautifully cooked eggs with bright orange yolk so I'm guessing they are organic free range. My partners burger had lots of mushrooms and cheese and was cooked perfectly. We tried the gf flourless cake and it was rich, moist and chocolatey. I also loved the salad that came with my meal and I was actually shocked at how good it was. I ended up taking some of the awesome pancakes and cake home so I could finish the salad. I'm a huge brunch fan and I'll for sure be back. read more

Turn far exceeded our expectations. We went for lunch and ordered the Biscuit flight, Falafel salad, Polenta and Arepa. My aunt had the Mezcal Paloma, and it was great as well. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!! The Service was phenomenal as well. Our server, Michael was attentive and knowledgeable and his suggestions did not miss! The Arepa was spot on. The chicken chorizo was seasoned perfectly and with the Chile Verde made a great combination. Portion was generous. The Polenta was fantastic! It was light yet filling. And the flavors with the leeks, shiitake mushrooms and goat cheese with the green sauce complimented each other perfectly. Making for a go to dish for us in the future! The blend of tender and tasty chicken breasts, beets, dates, almonds and carrots on the Falafel Salad were spot on and it barely needed salad dressing (which is rare for me to say since I am a BIG sauce person), but...that Tahini vinaigrette!!! Wooh, it was so delicious and a perfect addition. The biscuit flight featured 4 biscuits that were a good size and perfectly cooked, very moist. The flight had one buttermilk, a smore's, a lavender (I believe) with lemon sauce and cardamom-pumpkin biscuits. We will definitely be back! And they have music brunch on certain Sundays. Finally got a chance to check this resturant off my list to foodie eats and I have to say it was just okay. Atmosphere was calm and nice. Loved the decor. The service was extremely slow which I didnt understood why since there were only 3 to 4 tables and there was tons of staff around. My server was okay. It would have been nice to get suggestions and more of a warm welcome with it being my first time here (which was stated) The food that I've experienced was just okay. I got the chicken biscuit which by description hooked me immediately with the honey goat cheese but upon delivery of the meal the honey goat cheese was barely on there. It was more like a spread so I asked for extra to really taste the flavor. Also, I didnt expect the chicken breast to be so big in comparison to the biscuit so eating it was rather difficult. In regards to the biscuit, I wish it was less dense and more flavorful and moist because the chicken breast outshined it. I eventually tossed the biscuit away and just ate the chicken, egg and goat cheese spread with it. Glad I was able to check it off my list but don't know if it will be my most go to place for brunch. read more

This is a limited breakfast and lunch spot in an airy corner building with tall windows east of St. Louis University. Unfortunately, those windows offer little of interest along this Locust Avenue warehouse district east of the Grand arts area. Good thing the food is excellent because Turn has little else to help its cause. It's not a short walk from SLU or Grand. Parking is metered curbside spots. Pricing minimum is $10 for a breakfast meal or $12 for a lunch salad. And there's little else around it except warehouses. As mentioned, there is the excellent menu. And, Turn is a civilized space: R&B provides a calm background and is soft enough to actually have a conversation without vocal strain. Diners of a certain age will reminisce over the wall of album covers--mostly soul and jazz from the 1970s. I enjoyed a spinach and grilled chicken salad with a vinaigrette dressing that wasn't overly tangy. Small mozzarella balls accented the salad and I liked the option of chopping them up in the spinach and mixed greens or popping a hefty cut right into my mouth. The menu is limited but with fresh ingredients a lot closer to farm to table than Denny's. Service--despite only one party when I arrived at noon and no more than five others when I departed a half hour later--was a little on the slowish side. I believe, however, I was visited by the entire staff during my meal, excepting perhaps the chef. read more
