This place is smaller than the similar gaming stores I've been inside, but it was nice to see some of the tables being used and people playing while we were there. They have a really big selection for Magic, but not much outside of that, which is what I was hoping for. I guess I was just in the wrong type of store. Everyone that was in the store, including the employee, didn't say anything, but gave us weird looks for being there. I'm not really sure why. There shouldn't be anything wrong with outsiders just checking the store out. read more

Turn Zero is hands down one of the best spots in LA to play Magic. The employees are genuinely welcoming and make you feel right at home, whether you're a regular or it's your first time in. The atmosphere is super chill--perfect for jamming games with friends or meeting new people. Huge bonus points for convenience: having valet parking right out front is a massive plus, and there are a bunch of quick snack places nearby if you get hungry between rounds. I have two boys under five and live within walking distance of Turn Zero Games, so this is probably a placeholder review until they're old enough to learn about the world of collectibles and gaming. I dropped in to buy a present for my little friend Odin S.'s seventh birthday and immediately got what I needed. I am a 38-year-old mom with one salient common interest with many young children: I've played Pokémon GO since 2016, when most of the kids I know were not yet alive. I am a daily player, and even own a Pokémon GO Plus +, an autocatcher in the shape of a Poké Ball. My own children have shown great interest in this device, which I keep telling them is definitely not a toy. The adults in my life are unimpressed by my Pokémon prowess, but I've gotten pretty good mileage showing my CP4234 Mewtwo and various shinies to Odin. He has, in turn, told me all about the card game and general Pokémon lore. I got him a bunch of Pokémon cards for his sixth birthday, and the gift was enough of a hit that I decided to buy him more. I found Turn Zero on Yelp and called ahead to make sure they had Pokémon cards in stock. They did, and the guy on the phone gave me a full rundown of what they had available. While they weren't selling individual packs, they did have sets that sounded like they'd make great presents. The shop is in that huge Koreatown strip mall with the My Gym and El Pollo Loco, where I've found that parking is usually easy. I didn't explore much, but it looked like it was about the size of a corner store, and it was well stocked with game-related inventory. Lots of games, of course, plus accessories, books, figurines, etc. The guy I talked to on the phone was there behind the counter. He was nice and helpful and hooked me up with a handsome box of Pokémon cards. Odin was really happy with his gift. Given my own tendencies (I enjoyed plenty of manga in my youth, and while I never played Magic the Gathering, I got really into Hearthstone for a while), I think it's somewhat likely that my sons will be little gamers. I have a feeling I'll be back to Turn Zero Games. read more

Its a scrappy store smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles with ample and FREE play space for TCGs, Board Games, and Mini War Games. They mostly stock Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer, Flesh and Blood but they also cater to many new games like Riftbound and their respective scenes. They also host tournaments and leagues. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Shared parking is available in the front and rear of the strip mall. Recommend calling ahead to see whats in stock or on the schedule. read more

I was looking to find some community in my neighborhood and came to Turn Zero Games to see if there was anything cool I could get involved with. I'd never played Magic or D&D before but was directed to their discord where I connected with a weekly D&D group! Now I'm there a lot, I'm learning MTG & Lorcana and I also just really like hanging out with the people who work there and the regulars. The environment is very chill and welcoming, the people are funny, and they have a TON of board games, TCGs, and mini games. This is a nice game store for MTG, they have a large selection of singles and boxes to choose from. They also have some playmats and other non-MTG board games. Unfortunately this is why I have to rate low. There was a kid there that was absolutely disrespectful and disruptive to other people there. He was using slurs and yelling about the games he was in using the F word and other profanity. I can understand just casual conversation but this was a literal CHILD using this language. It made everyone I was with uncomfortable and the store employee seemed to not care or find it amusing. Beware if you attend an event outside of school hours. read more

A great place for trading cards or board games, Turn Zero Games is a gem in Koreatown! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable, especially when you consider how many different designer board games there are to choose from. They will be happy to walk you through the mechanics of a game, give you a recommendation based on your interests, or give you a walkthrough with one of their many free-to-play in-store games! They are also primarily a Magic the Gathering store but do offer other card games as well, including a wide selection of sleeves and accessories. The community is welcoming as well and I have been able to make a lot of friends since my first prerelease for Dominaria back in 2018. Definitely not your stereotypical "exclusive, unfriendly game shop," the regulars and staff all want to play games with friendly people of similar interests. Easy transaction buying YuGiOh Sneak Peeks for Dawn of Majesty. Was a little sad to see that they didn't have the raffle for the play mat or beetrooper card, or even take our names down for them. The staff working tonight was incredibly rude. My boyfriend went in and the staff asked if he was there for Magic. He replied no, he was there looking for some Yugioh cards and the staffs demeanour changed entirely. He stated that they were out of that crap and answered any further questions with sarcasm and straight hostility. After looking around, he bought a play mat and the staff told him it was five dollars and to get that sh*t out of his sight. When inquiring about something to carry it in, the staff responded. "Does it look like I have anything? If I had any tubes they'd be there, but I don't. Do I?" It's not worth it. I feel like I visited a much different store than other reviewers. Going into a retail location you do expect certain things, a hello or some form of greeting. When I went up to the counter in the back the worker never even said high until about 5 minutes later when he was done with another customer. When he finally said hi I inquired about a heavily played Wheel of Fortune. Price was $18. Easily a $12-$14 card online. Most local stores are $1-$2 from TCG mid so this was ridiculous. I have been to this store once before. I was there for a good 5 minutes and no one greeted me. So I walked out. I was in Hi De Ho yesterday and scored a NM Wheel of Fortune for $20 flat below TCG mid. Michael there greeted me as soon as he saw me. I would rather go to Next Gen, MCO, HiDeHo or even All Star before going here again. read more

Avoid this store. There's a ton of other card shops to check out. Why? I bought a revised Tundra for $209 from the guy Riis (store co-owner) behind the counter. I later went to Channel Fireball to trade it in for something else, and they told me it was a counterfeit Magic card. They were right. So Riis graciously asked me to send it back (I live 300 miles away), so I paid the shipping costs and sent it back. Riis confirmed it was counterfeit using his own methods. He then refused a refund or any sort of compensation whatsoever for the $209 counterfeit Magic card I purchased in cash, in store. The shipping cost to send it back costs more than the fake Magic card. So now I'm out over $200 and no Tundra to show for my hard earned money. Thanks a bunch, Turn Zero Games. read more
