I'n not entirely sure what this guys problem was that day, but boy did I have a poor experience on the phone with one of the guys that work here. I'm a private Pokémon card collector that has never ventured into the world of buy/sell/trade, so I decided I'd call a few shops in the area to see what they'd recommend, and this is exactly how this conversation went. Guy answers phone, i asked him if he had a minute to answer a couple questions i had. "i mean i have a few people I'm helping right now but yeah sure" I proceed to explain that i was looking for guidance or advice on how to offload my extensive Pokémon card collection as I'm moving out of the area, and i was wondering if they had a buyer or something of the sort that would sit down with me and run through it to see what they're willing to buy, etc. He responds, "oookay. Are you planning on paying someone for that?" Confused, i asked what he meant? "Basically what I'm getting at is no, we don't do that. I have a guy here that's really knowledgeable about that kinda stuff but i wouldn't wanna waste his time" I thanked him for his "candid" (read: completely rude) response and that i would look elsewhere. Honestly one of worst experiences with a card store ever. Asked if I could pay a dollar for a card that is that is generally $.50 and not even on tcgplayer bc it's a bulk card that no one cares abt. They're selling it for $2 and the prick of a staff made us feel shitty for even asking. Like you can say no straightforwardly and nicely. Like it's okay to be firm on your outrageously priced stuff but this scruffy dude was straight but rude and belittling. Never coming here again smh read more

I visited the store on a Thursday afternoon and they already had people playing some games. The store has a very wide selection of books, cards, snacks, drinks, and tables to play on. I absolutely love this place. I come here frequently for many different reasons. I've bought packs of Pokémon cards for my daughter, My wife has gotten board games and expansion packs here. I love their selection of D&D Dice. You can buy Single or Booster packs of different TCG here. Prices are true to retail price and I love that they're not trying to rip you off. There's so much to do and look at here I encourage you to check the place out if you're into Dungeons and Dragons, Magic The Gathering, War Hammer, Board Games and a ton more. The service here is always great the guys are always very helpful and will answer any questions you may have if you're a beginner to any of these games without making you feel bad for not knowing much about a topic. You can rent a table out for you and your friends if needed and FYI one thing I did learn is they will not host a D&D session there as a Rule they have but one of the guys there was willing to work with us if I'd scheduled it way in advance with X amount of players at a set price each person. We had such a good experience with the staff that we decided to give MTG another chance. Daniel literally took the time to teach us how to play MTG. We have since attended multiple pre-release events and found that the staff and the community at this store are all excellent. Prices at the store are very comparable to Amazon for most items. The shop has a good setup and the dim atmosphere really enhances the immersion of any game. Additionally, the space is large enough for multiple games/tournaments to run simultaneously. It's a great place for all communities of gamers to gather. As far as drawbacks go theirs is negligible. They can be shrewd business people and will take the bigger half on any trades/sales to the shop. To me, selling to the shop is a perk so I don't mind being the generous party if it keeps the traditions alive--especially considering that appraising each deal takes a considerable amount of time for the employees, who have all been respectful, hardworking, and knowledgable of their trade. read more

Rude staff. They don't respect people's civil rights and practice discrimination against certain people, and then they even threaten to call the cops on you for trespassing. Comically rude over the phone. Did not feel welcome here at all. I recently started collecting Pokémon cards again and was looking for a specific elite trainer box (Crown Zenith). After calling a few other "gaming" stores near me who didn't carry Pokémon cards I came across this business. After calling and confirming that they had Pokémon cards (they were very nice on the phone btw and answered right away) I decided to stop by. The parking lot is a bit small but I was able to find parking at a meter nearby. Once inside I was amazed at how big this store was (most gaming stores I've visited recently are not too big and usually small spaces). They have tables in the middle and it looks like some serious competitions and events happen here. I was in a rush so I didn't get to look around too much. However, I did find the Pokémon section and they had what I wanted & more! The gentlemen were very nice and helpful. They answered all my questions and were good at explaining their products to me. I must say although I was in a rush I did not feel rushed. I definitely will be going back soon! I hope I get some good cards in the ETBs I picked up today! read more

This is the absolute best LGS in LA, especially for Magic The Gathering. I've been coming to Next-Gen for years and I've always had excellent experiences with staff and other players. They have a large collection of MTG singles and always have a ton of sealed product at good prices. What puts Next-Gen at the top of my list is their events. I never miss a prerelease event or preview draft. They are organized and friendly and always attract a great mix of seasoned players and newcomers. Their play area is large, with space for 60+ players. Even outside of events you can easily pop in to catch a game with other customers. FNM, weekly drafts, commander nights, modern nights and so on, you can find it all here with great vibes and excellent prize support. I have nothing but compliments to give Next Gen Video Games. It's the type of place that has something for everyone. They have all video games of course.. but in addition to that they even sell board games and they have magic tournaments a few times a week. Once a week they have a D&D game. The store is one of the better stores I've been in because it's big and spacious but it has a lot of things for sale. And everything is very neatly organized. The guys who work here are all pretty nice. When I was here the first time I noticed they even had one of the hold Atari consoles for sale for $250! And some old Atari games too. There are Nintendo Games, SNES Games, Sega, Playstation, everything. Even the gameboy games. There are tons of board games for sale and the amount of board games they have is huge. It takes up almost the whole entire wall of their store. There is even a nice Warhammer selection. And they have tons of stuff for Magic. We came here to sell a bunch of video games we were no longer playing. If you plan on doing that, you might have to come back a second time. Only because they test out all the games to make sure they're working. We dropped off the games on Sunday and came back on Monday. They will either give you cash back or you can also choose store credit to buy anything you want in the store. BTW, If you chose the cash back option, you will get 20% less of what you would get if you were to get store credit. Also, another good thing about this spot is that there is free parking behind the store. Or, if you come on Sunday there is free metered street parking. And, they're open pretty late on some nights.. till 9pm! I would recommend this store for all things that are game related. past gen and next gen. hahah. read more

The owner of the shop helped me rekindle my love for MTG. Was in town on a biz trip and came through here as I just re-started my 25+ year hiatus away from MTG and recently got my kids into it. Super helpful letting me test out a bunch of merch, got me set up with a bunch of Commander decks, highly knowledegable and helpful. I did a bit of online research as well and so happened to be on a launch day/week for the Warhammer commander sets, and he was being very reasonable by not up-pricing some of the more covetted sets. i think he was being very fair and I highly recommend the shop. It was super clean / well organized and great for lovers of magic. Planning another trip to LA and just got into DND as well with my kids so definitely going to come back here. read more

first time I went to this place to play dungeons and dragons. The people said they would help me get my character ready before the game started and I waited for over an hour for someone to come and nobody came over so I just left. The next time I asked to play dnd at this place there was barely anybody running the store and one of the employees was being such a dick to me. Like giving me dirty looks whenever I picked up something and put it back or, when I asked him a simple question like where is the bathroom? He said well if you could read it's to your right. Next-Gen is one of my top choices for MTG. The staff is amazing, knowledgeable, friendly, and always looking out for folks in the community. I started getting into Magic in the last year, and I've never regretted going to Next-Gen for cards, packs, and storage. When buying today, I mentioned that I'm pretty new, and the incredibly kind staff immediately started talking to me about storage, making recommendations, and even gave me a few cards as a "welcome to the community."
