The firearm was gifted on December 25 and attempted to be used for the first time on December 26, at which point it was immediately found to be non-functional. The firearm was returned to Turners on December 29, promptly after discovering the defect. This was not a case of wear, misuse, or buyer's remorse; the firearm never functioned as intended. In fact, during the return visit, the store manager personally inspected and tested the firearm and determined that the firing pin was not striking the cartridge with sufficient force, confirming that the firearm was defective. Despite this confirmed defect, I was informed that because the issue was identified ten days past the 30-day window, I would be required to pay $50 out of pocket to ship the firearm back to the manufacturer. What makes this demand particularly unreasonable is the fact that Ruger provides a free prepaid shipping label for warranty returns. Rather than assisting or advocating on behalf of your customer, Turners chose to ignore the manufacturer's established warranty process and instead imposed an unnecessary and punitive fee for a defect that existed at the time of sale. Let me be very clear: A firearm that fails immediately upon first use and is confirmed by your own manager to be mechanically defective is not a return issue. It is a defective product. Penalizing a customer for discovering a manufacturing defect days outside an arbitrary policy window, especially under normal and foreseeable circumstances such as a Christmas gift, is neither reasonable nor customer-focused. The policy, as applied here, shifts responsibility away from the retailer and onto the customer for a problem that Turners sold in non-working condition. That is unacceptable. I did not purchase a discounted or as-is item; I purchased a new firearm with the expectation that it would function properly and that the retailer would stand behind the product if it did not. What further compounds this issue is the complete lack of discretion or advocacy shown by the staff. No attempt was made to escalate the matter, no consideration was given to the fact that the firearm never worked and was confirmed to be defective, and no effort was made to resolve the situation in a fair or reasonable way. Instead, I was met with a rigid policy and told to pay $50, despite the manufacturer already offering a no-cost warranty shipping solution. Turners' reputation is built on trust, responsibility, and service--especially in an industry where safety and reliability are paramount. This experience reflects none of those values. read more

Do not go to this store for a firearm purchase. I've spent over a month going back and forth with this location. In December, I went in to purchase and their staff member did not initiate my background check correctly. After discovering the error on my own, they admitted no fault and we continued to go through the process. Went in today to pickup my purchase and learned that they did not currently have a license to sell or release after jumping through their hoops. This location does not know what good customer service is. I'd look at visiting other locations before visiting this location. Turns out they do not have there license to sell or release firearms as of January 30th, hopefully that's resolved soon. But I've received no communication from store leadership. read more

I'll be honest, I've given this store numerous tries. They just... they suck. They rarely have what I need, when they do, it's one option and overpriced. The gun counter has a good amount of selection and a good amount of staffing but somehow it's SO. SLOW. I walked out after waiting 20 minutes to get one box of shotgun shells. I've purchased multiple pieces from Turner's, and always make the trek to El Cajon thanks to the variety, good customer service and friendly atmosphere here. Location is within a small strip mall, so parking is ample and it's easy to get back on the highway when you're done. The store is well lit, has a very organized layout, and the ticketing system makes it easy to keep your place in line. The staff is patient despite the tedious paperwork involved, and I've never had to wait too long even during the pandemic when entry was restricted. Ammo stock is the main downside at this location, as several times they were either low or completely out of the caliber that I needed. Overall a recommended option for solid gun variety, fair prices and laid back staff who have helped make my purchasing experiences a breeze. read more

What a joke. First and last time I'll ever be coming to this location. I call at 6:54p as I'm driving from down the street and asked the guy to check if he has a particular ammo on sale and that I'm coming down the street, he says "oh since your coming down the street just come because I'm the only one at the counter" I say "ok, what time do you guys close? He replies "7" I say: "ok that's cool I can get it before you close?" He replies "yeah no problem" me: "ok, cool im like 2 minutes away" I get to the door at 6:57 and they are locked. I then call for about a minute as I'm at the door and another guy answers and says we close at 7, I'm sitting there at the door by then from 6:58-59 and explain what I was told and that it's still not 7p were speaking he says sorry idk why they said that and told me he already closed the system (before 7). Don't shop at Turners. I've begrudgingly shopped here for years due to location convenience and limited options in the area. But this place has finally broken my last straw with horrible customer service. The store manager Jason Rasmussen and the fishing department manager Carl Stewart have created a culture of customer disrespect. From having reels over spooled on three accounts, to pushy gun counter employees trying to hit their spiff/product bonus goals and the extremely awkward downright aggressive process of submitting a product warranty claim with management I'm just done with all of it. Even attempting to submit a warranty rod from THEIR OWN LINE OF RODS was excruciatingly laborious. The fishing department manager Carl Stewart treats customers as if they're causing him a massive disturbance without even once acknowledging the fact that the product failed, not once offering condolences for the inconvenience of the whole situation and then has the audacity to haggle down the initial cost of the product that was supposed to have a lifetime warranty. I ended up having to pay almost full cost for a replacement rod with about $20 off. Their isn't a single saltwater rod there for under $150 and the warranty (Per their own website) states that "it is a lifetime warranty with a 50% of retail replacement charge. That math doesn't add up does it? So my next rod purchased I opted out of that brand and bought a Dobyns. Per their own employee and Dobyns website this rod has a lifetime warranty replacement fee of $55. No receipt needed. The rod broke in a cast and I attempted to return it today. They now state that THEY DONT HONOR DOBYNS WARRANTIES. This came from the fishing manager Carl Stewart, who an employee had to go ask in the back as the manager would not come out to speak with me. San Diego has new options in East County. Don't shop here. read more

I don't understand why they take so long, it's weird. So there are two visits necessary to purchase a gun. You go in, select your firearm, and fill out the paperwork. Then, you return after the waiting period to pick up your firearm. Each of these visits took up about 1:45 of my time. That's a total of 3.5 hours to purchase a gun. I have never had this experience buying a gun. It makes no sense. If you want to shoot the shit with some gun old timers, and have nothing else going on in your life, this is your spot, if you actually have shit to do during your day, avoid. Went with my daughter to pick up her new Handgun and ammo. Ken spent plenty of time going over the gun features, safety, cleaning, and classes in the SoCal area. Nothing was rushed, all questions were answered, and he explained new laws coming in 2021. What a difference! I brought my Christensen arms MPR in 338 lapua to sportsman's and had the worst experience of my life all around. They even tried to sell me the wrong rings for this rifle as I'm new with long range shooting. After leaving sportsman dissatisfied and exhausted with over the 2 months and multiple visits I've taken there for the SAME thing, I came to Turners. Talked to Ken who was gracious, respectful, and beyond helpful. He gave me more insight and time than I could have imagined. This is not a cheap set up that's I've pieced together and I got the equivalent in terms of kindness and expertise.
