My mom came to this restaurant about 30 years ago and fell in love with Siesta Key and knew there was something special about it. Fast forward to today, my mom bought a second home in Sarasota and we wanted to come back. We were seated outside on the patio and, of course, it looked nothing like it did 30 years ago. Our server was young and was no help, but another server (big Patriots fan and superrr friendly) took more time to speak to us and talk to us about how low tide would have allowed sand to be present and appear to be 'beach-like' back then. I had hoped to get a shirt for my dad, but they don't have them anymore, so I had to settle for some souvenir glasses with turtles on them. For dinner, we happened to be there for an early bird menu. My mom got the steak with mashed potatoes and veg and I got a stuffed shrimp dish with a baked potato. I started with a rum rummer which was pretty horrible. The bread that came out tasted dry and stale and the butter was probably the worst fake butter we've tasted. My stuffing in the shrimp was decent, but the shrimp was pretty rubbery. The baked potato also wasn't great and I didn't even know you could mess that up. Luckily they had real butter for the potatoes. My mom's steak was surprisingly really flavorful and if I ever came back, I would get that for sure, but even her flavored mash needed more butter for her. The price of the meal, the server that wasn't even ours, and the nostalgia likely added a star here. I don't know that we'll be back. read more

First time I been here. The atmosphere is cool, since it's been a bit too HOT and humid, I had to stay inside but right by the window looking at the mullet shooting out of the water. I ordered a Coconut Crusted Mahi Mahi dinner. It was flaky and very tasty - just a little dry, but I used lemon juice to moist the flakes. It came with broiled potatoes and greens. Of course the drinks had to be a Red Sangria. The other order was a Potato Crusted Haddock. (never heard of it) the fish itself was a bit dry but the taste was unique in good. Same with that fish, it needed a little help with a dressing, which they give you a Key Lime dressing, but for me, not enough. So we asked for more and it made a great difference. Again, followed by a Red Sangria! Will go back to explore the outdoor atmosphere and different food. I have my eyes and stomach on the Fruitti di Mari. read more

Casual waterfront dining in Siesta Key. Located across the street from Turtle Beach on Midnight Pass Rd. Have been here several times and love that the outside seating is spacious with sufficient enough fans to allow a comfortable dining experience with a nice casual atmosphere. Service has always been good, not upscale cuisine but seafood is always fresh tasting and they have lots of happy hour specials. My key lime colada was a bit on the small side but tasted good and not cloyingly sweet. I ordered the salmon on the early bird menu and I think it was about $11 and came with a veggie mix and potatoes. Others enjoyed their food and drink and I would come again for sure. read more

We had an amazing lunch. We showed up early, not realizing it, before they opened. They greeted us like friends and let us rest on the patio until they opened. The server came out early and was awesome. We had some very well-made Margaritas and ordered sandwiches. The food was well above our expectations and seemed very creative and well executed. The total was 157 and he came back saying only 147 went through and we called my dad to add more money he added 100 dollars and he said it still wasn't enough so my dad added 300 . The food here is really good and reasonably priced. We had gone to Ophelia's the night before where the food was good but way over priced. Same water views here and for less than the cost of an appetizer there we got entrees here that were excellent. My wife got the pecan chicken and I got the grilled shrimp on a salad. I made reservations about two weeks ago for 4 of us at 2PM for Easter. We arrived on time and had to wait, which was understandable because of the Holiday. I thought it was reservations only but noticed that people who did not make reservations were being seated. The food was very good but the service gets one star. Our waitress was not very attentive. This is my mom's kind of place. It's right on the water, so you can see boats coming in and out, with lots of outdoor seating underneath umbrellas and awnings. Most of the patrons today were retirees and empty nesters on vacation catching up with friends. The Sunday Brunch is an incredible deal: $8.99 for one of 7 different brunch entrees, and a mimosa, Bloody Mary or OJ is included! We arrived at a slow time of day (around 3 PM) while we were visiting the beach across the street. We were immediately sat and our server came out rather quickly. He was friendly, but rarely checked on us, unless it was to bring us our original drink orders or food. I watched a nearby server check on his table 5 times within the same time our server had come out once. There were only maybe 5 or 6 families in the entire restaurant. The food was mediocre, at best. My salad was good, but the scampi tasted like they used too much wine to make the sauce and the cheese sauce just tasted like velveeta. My husband requested the steak medium rare, but it was not cooked evenly throughout. The very middle was medium rare and the rest was well done. After cutting through, we could tell the steak had been previously frozen and quick thawed before preparation. The bang bang shrimp was okay, but was extremely thick with breading and the sauce was more like salad dressing than a sweet and sour sauce. When we finally received our check and went to leave, we noticed why our server was fairly aloof. All of the servers, with the exception of one or two talking to their tables, were huddled into the kitchen talking with each other. Stay away. We were told a one hour wait for outside tables and we were okay with that. After about 45 minutes we kept seeing people get seated who arrived after us. I approached the hostess desk and it was very clear we had been forgotten. She said that seating two people was difficult because there are only so many 2 top tables. We were told we were next. I could see on her list that she had missed us. Our wait was so bad that even the bartender noticed we had been there a long time. Hostess said the worst case is that we would sit at a 4 top. I've worked in the food industry long enough to know the solution was seat us immediately or send us over a complimentary drink or app. Nope she finally seats us at a 4 top and with a bitchy fake smile throws the menus onto the table. Okay we get it, it is busy so we put on a good face and think positively about our dinner. Here is the positive the rolls were warm and soft. We liked them so much we asked for more. The highlight of our meal was the rolls. My husband's stuffed shrimp were okay but lukewarm. The potatoes were odd and watery. My Mahi Mahi was dry, over cooked and bland. There were 3 potato pieces that were bland and flavorless. The vegetables were half moon slices of zucchini and carrots with zero flavor. I can't think of a reason to go back even though they had opportunity to turn our evening around. Bartender and waiter were very pleasant. Not enough to go back though. read more

We traveled to Siesta Key for a week's vacation on Jan 21st, 2020. The area is beautiful and has a very diverse restaurant list from the traditional hamburger to the exotics. We decided on the Turtles Restaurant because the Siesta Key Trolly ran right to this restaurant and the great thing was it was free ad we could partake in some cocktails without the worry of driving. This night it was busy, no line but you could only see a few tables. Our hostess seated us at a table with a view near the bar. Nice except the large screen TV was right at the level of my head. Our server was Noy a very pleasant lady that knew her menu. We started out with cocktails, my drink, of course, was a dirty dry martini with Bombay gin and two blue cheese stuffed olives, my wife ordered the Organic Blood Orange Margarita. Our friends ordered a beer and a margarita as well. When the drinks arrived, I ordered an appetizer for the table. Fried avocado with a dipping sauce. Then we waited and waited. We had finished our drinks and waited. Then the appetizer arrived. IT was hot and obviously deep fried in old oil because of the dark and fish tasting breading. The avocado was tasteless as was the plain dipping sauce. Not very appetizing. Noy our server finally came back and I ordered off the specials, an encrusted ahi tuna, fresh veggies, and seasoned rice. My wife ordered the "Signature Crab Bisque" and shrimp caser salad. Our friends order the ribs and the fisherman plater. Then we waited and waited. We could see our waitress almost running from one end of the restaurant to the other working her tables. After a short 40 mins, our bread and butter arrived. The bread was hot, the butter was a sweet and good combination. By the time our entrees arrived, we had finished all of our drinks and water. My ahi tuna was cooked perfectly however it was cold. The veggies were crunchy and fresh, but only warm, the seasoned rice was cold. My wife's Signature crab Bisque was an iteration of Campbell's cream of tomato with a can of crab meat. The salad was just OK. My friend's ribs must have been good, as he devoured them. In summation, the service was lousy only because the server was way overburdened , the food was just ok. Certainly not worth the money. read more

At these prices I'd expect everything to be delicious, but I've had fresher, cripser vegetables at my Mother's senior living facility. Just finished a meal at Turtles. The cocktails and food was delicious. The challenge was the service. We were absolutely forgotten. Supposedly our ticket got lost in the kitchen. 30+ minutes later. No apology just that it would be 5 minutes. No one came to take dirty glasses or plates. Our server kept touching all the neighboring tables and just ignored us. I had the coconut crusted mahi mahi it was drenched in coconut sauce not crusted and was room temperature. The kids mac and cheese was not very flavorful. The Bloody Mary was one of the worst I've ever had. My friend and I both didn't drink ours and the server never asked about it after seeing them both still full. I upgraded my bloody and got 1 shrimp on top. My fish was the most over cooked fish I've ever received. The vegetables were just frozen and thrown on the plate. Turtle's Restaurant is in a great location. The surrounding area and the restaurant itself are very nice with great views of the water. Sadly, the food at Turtle's Restaurant is a mess. We had two appetizers. The fried avacado was unique and a good idea with a nice sauce. Unfortunately they were over cooked to a deep brown, almost burned and the breading was very hard. The "crab bisque" was a total loss. It consisted of tomato soup with a bunch of chopped up surimi (artificial crab sticks) mixed in. For $8 I expected something a bit more local (like some real crab) and a more culinary base. It had neither crab taste or the taste and texture of a bisque. Our first entrée was grilled grouper. It consisted of two thin fillets. I have never had thin grouper fillets and was wondering if the chef replaced the grouper with snapper. That aside, it was decently cooked and the veggie side was well prepared (steamed). The slaw was ok. Nothing to talk about. Our "sea scallop" meal was something else. For $29 we got four small sea scallops (not much more than quarter size) that were over cooked and covered in some type of cracker crumb and what tasted like a mayonnaise based sauce. Very uninspired. This place really needs to step up their game. It's a beautiful location and a great front of the house staff. Our waiter, Juan, was very professional, attentive and friendly. It's sad that there is no one in the kitchen that can produce the level of food that this restaurant deserves. Sorry, but we won't be back. read more

The service is good and the atmosphere is definitely more family older folk geared but it has great deals for Happy hour and Sunday Brunch. Happy hour has very small apps but they are only 2.99 so you can mix and matches (would not recommend the nachos with crab meat, it looked more like coslaw than crab.)
