Another staple of our time in siesta key is hitting up the siesta key oyster bar. Ironic cuz I don't eat oysters I'm simply there for the smash burgers. Skob is always packed. Always. But there's a reason behind this. The owner is on site quite a bit it's nice to see him. While the place certainly has quite a few miles on it mostly because it keeps getting beat up during hurricanes it bounces back. Feel free to bring a dollar and staple a dollar to the ceiling or if you're a copper firefighter bring your patch and they will hang it proudly. When I'm on vacation I like my food very simple. A simple double smashburger and fries 100% does me in. For servers are definitely all smiling another staple and not really an expectation but I'm so glad to see it. My wife got a chicken quesadilla not really adventurous again for the same reason. Was visiting Siesta Keys for vacation and asked the front desk to give me a restaurant recommendation. Without hesitation, he suggested we check this place out. My hotel was about 12 minutes away by car (or a scenic 1 hour and 12 minute walk), so we decided to stroll along the coastal lines of Siesta Key. The walk was beautiful and relaxing, and before we knew it, we had arrived just in time for lunch. We decided to try the baked oysters Rockefeller (spinach and cheese), fresh house oysters from Texas, shrimp and grits, and Jill's jambalaya. The baked oysters were rich and indulgent -- creamy, savory, and perfectly balanced without overpowering the natural brininess of the oyster. The fresh Texas oysters were clean and crisp, served properly chilled and shucked well. Shrimp and grits were comforting and flavorful, with well-seasoned shrimp and a creamy base that didn't feel heavy. Jill's jambalaya had great depth -- hearty, slightly spicy, and packed with protein. We had about an hour wait so we walked around and looked in some shops while we waited. We sat outside which was nice. Our server was very nice. We ordered the hot street corn dip which was fantastic!! For our entree's I ordered the make your own extravaganzas with crab cakes, red potatoes and Brussel sprouts. We always stay in an Airbnb right next door to SKOB when we visit Siesta Key, so it's become our tradition to make it our first stop on the trip. This time, we popped in on a Friday night, the live music outside was great, so we grabbed a couple drinks at the indoor bar while waiting for a table outside. My boyfriend had a cherry limeade and I went with a vodka lemonade. Both were a little on the light side (I even had to double check mine had vodka since I was getting over a cold and couldn't taste it much), but still refreshing. For food, we started with shrimp tacos. Since I'm allergic to dairy, I have to be careful with what I order. They were good, but even blackened, they didn't have a ton of flavor. The real star of the night, though, was the chicken and waffles. I actually thought it was a brunch-only dish, so I was thrilled to see it on the dinner menu. The portion was generous, absolutely piled with bacon, and the syrup/sauce had a spicy kick that made the whole dish unforgettable. I'd come back for that alone, time and time again. Beautiful outdoor seating, somewhat reasonably priced, sunny 65 degree February at noon what's not to love! Service was perfect, grouper sandwich cooked perfectly, very tender. Had sandwich on brioche bun with their tartar sauce, onion tomato and lettuce. Very fresh but messy. Cole slaw as a side also very good but nothing to write home about. Wife had fish and chips and I would order this dish myself if we returned. Very flaky haddock, a little greasy as to be expected but 3 large pieces. She got the fries with it which were good but not great. I do think if you're having a drink or 2 and taking a break from the beach this is perfect. Siesta Key Oyster Bar has a great atmosphere, fun vibe, good music, and the staff is always really friendly. We ordered three different kinds of oysters and had a bunch of drinks, and everything tasted solid at the time. The downside is my buddy ended up super sick after eating the oysters, and this is actually the second time he's gotten sick after coming here. Kinda hard to ignore that pattern, even though the place itself is awesome for hanging out. Absolutely love hanging out at SKOB--feels like family every time. The staff always go above and beyond, and Gabriella is especially kind. She makes sure Hoss, my pup, is well cared for, which means the world to me. On this visit, Hoss had his usual: a cool bowl of water and a side salad (yes, he's a healthy king). We ended up eating here twice when we were in town for a week. That's how you know a place is good, when you go back a second time. First time we waited an hour in the blazing sun (12 of us) before being seated. Second time we basically walked right in. The happy hour deals are good if you can catch the times. Both times the food was good as well as the service. The place isn't huge, so understand there's probably gonna be a wait. It's a glorified dive bar, but it has a nice ambiance to it. Parking is what it is in SK. Probably a top 3 place to eat on the island. Be careful with your tip, it might be included if your party is large enough. It is a fun, street side hang with outdoor heaters for these cold, winter days. The crab and hearts of palm dip was delicious!!! It was my first time trying Siesta Key style crab cakes - small and lightly flavored. The drinks were tasty albeit maybe $2 too much. The triple tail fish was cooked perfectly, but they served it in subpar tortillas for our tacos. The live music was entertaining and gave way to many patrons swaying and singing. We thought we weren't going to like it and have to move. However we weren't too bothered by it. People were able to go by easily. The oysters were good and the fish tacos were huge!! We also tried their grouper bites which even my kids enjoyed! Definitely recommend both! For entrees we got burgers, SKOB salad, and shrimp tacos. The SKOB salad was so good! We are here again 2 years later with our 2 Chihuahuas for a late lunch on Memorial Day 2024. This time, it was very difficult to find a parking spot, but after driving around for 20 minutes in 90-degree heat, we found a spot. It was like old times. There was live music , lots of fun people , and a nice staff. Our dogs received a bowl of cold water, which they drank immediately. I ordered Fush and Chips, which was fresh and good.
