Another Monday. Same work rhythm, new spot. Stopped by Tuscan Son around lunchtime, not far from Beverly Hills -- one of those places you notice when you're in the area and think, why not. Walked in expecting table service, but quickly realized it works more like a café: grab a menu, pick your food, order at the counter. Totally fine, just not obvious at first. I'll be honest -- tipping before the service and before the food arrives still feels strange to me. Maybe I'm spoiled by European-style service, maybe it's just a cultural thing. Not a dealbreaker, just something worth knowing. I went with a creamy cheese muffin, a latte, and Pollo ai Funghi. You choose a side with the chicken, and of course I picked the roasted potatoes. Total came out to $42.28. Credit where it's due: the guy at the register was solid. Calm, professional, explained the menu clearly, suggested options, and helped me make a decision without pushing anything. That matters. Coffee and the muffin came out almost immediately, which was both nice and slightly dangerous -- I had to resist finishing everything before the main dish showed up. I did start the latte anyway... couldn't help it. The muffin survived. Barely. About ten minutes later, the chicken arrived. And honestly -- it was excellent. Juicy chicken, mushrooms in a rich tomato-based sauce, everything balanced and comforting. The potatoes were good too, though I still don't quite understand why ketchup was included. It didn't need it. Overall? Good food. Pleasant atmosphere. Clean restroom (always appreciated). Nice interior. Smooth experience. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I come back regularly? Probably not. It's a solid 5-star place, especially if you're nearby or passing through. Just not the kind of spot I'd go out of my way for -- and that's okay. read more

This was our first visit to Tuscan son for dinner. We had the salmon which was excellent and was the eggplant lasagna(so great for my daughter who is gluten free). The broccoli soup was delicious. Charming Tuscan bistro on Little Santa Monica Blvd with a cute patio. I needed a place to work before my dental appointment a few doors down. I settled on a black Americano and a lemon mascarpone to accompany me and my laptop. I would have preferred to sit outside as the music inside was really loud, but there were only two tables not in the blazing sun, one was occupied and the other wasn't bussed. I don't think there was a manager present that day, as there was a bit of a "when the cat's away, the mice will play" vibe going on. I had another dental appointment a couple weeks later, and I saved my appetite so that I could try more than just a coffee and dessert this time. I tried the spicy salmon pasta. It was enough to pique my interest to try another pasta dish on a future visit. Service was much more invested this time! And music was not obnoxiously loud this time. The music inside was quieter than the traffic noise outside. Also of note to fellow germaphobes, this was one sparkly well kept restroom! More appreciated than you know. Tuscan Son is still one of my fave places to eat... with AMAZING food AND baked goods. A Two-for-One, to be sure, AND easy parking to boot. That RARELY happens in the city. They've done a great job, too, of setting up a bigger and better outdoor dining area for its customers. I still get the same chicken pollo verde panini with the salad, but they took away "my" kalamata olives. Boooo-hooooo. That was such a great addition, so you know what, I tell them I want them added back in. The food preparers who are new to their operation look at me dumbfounded, but the ones who worked there from the beginning just know and don't bat an eyelash over my request. Either way, I get those olives back in there... just so good. As for the bakery, yeah, we order a few things each time, some repeat items, but usually something new because they have so many enticing looking gems... and they're ALL SOOOOO GOOD. Their blueberry cheesecake and chocolate cheesecake are to-die-for. The lemon bars are phenomenal, too. The only complaint that I have is that we live so far away, lol. read more

This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem ! The dishes are very authentic Italian cuisine. It's a small location with bar style seating facing the window. You order your food and it's taken to your table. They have their own baker, coffee selection and wines. There's parking on the street , however there's also validated parking out back. The only reason that it's not a 5 stars is because of price. My daughter loved their rigatoni meat pasta . It is very delicious but it's a high price for the portion they serve. It's a good restaurant but there are a few things that keep them from being a great restaurant. I've been there many times and wish the owners would know a few things... 1) the chairs inside the restaurant are painful to sit on 2) Your outdoor area would be spectacular if you had more umbrellas or invested in more comprehensive shade. 3) Your ribollita soup is inconsistent, sometimes it transformative and other times it's just tomato soup. 4) Your "impostables" (dishes with veggies substituting for pasta) could be great but you have to do something about extra liquid in the dishes. 5) you have a bunch of great sandwiches, but often they suffer because you don't fully toast the bread. The location and ambience is great on Santa Monica Blvd. West LA right across from the mormon temple. Hours are until 9pm with a pleasant outdoor seating better than most cafes. We live in the neighborhood and have come quite a few times. Food is very good but service has definitely gotten worse. We were served by a lady last night who gave me an attitude, making it sound like such an inconvenience and made a comment about how strange a request for a coffee to-go was. When she came to deliver the food, she threw the napkins and plate down on the table with a scowl and without saying a word. I even overheard a group of elderly ladies comment at how amazed they were with how fast the food came out and her response to them was a backhanded comment, "yeah, we're trying to close the kitchen!" (Mind you it was 8pm) And when they mentioned they were missing an item, she didn't even turn around to address them, just kept walking away from them and yelled, "it's all coming!". Perhaps they should just close the restaurant early when this woman wants to go home as it would save the patrons a side of attitude and the restaurant, some face. read more

I came on a busy afternoon for a quick lunch. Its a cute little cafe with a couple tables and booths. I got the rigatoni fiorentina and pumpkin cheesecake. They have lots of amazing looking pastries. The food was a bit of a letdown and looked better than it tasted. The rigatoni was watery and missing something (like salt maybe?), and the cheesecake was also missing something. The cheesecake slice was $12 which is pretty steep. Overall, the food was mediocre and didn't justify the price. read more

Came here for step 2 of my regularly scheduled B&B (Botox and Bite to eat). I have driven by Tuscan Son many times -- very convenient spot with plenty of parking on the street and in the back -- but this was the first time I've gotten to eat here. Split a sandwich and the grilled shrimp salad with my girl friend and regular B&B date. The menu was not very large - was hoping for a few other sandwich options but went with their specialty chicken panini. The lady at the counter said they were backed up so it might take a while, but the food came out fresh and relatively fast. We sat outside on a beautifully sunny day and enjoyed their outdoor patio area. The food itself was honestly just ok. The shrimp in the salad was not flavorful, and the rest of the salad was rather basic lettuce and raw broccoli. The house dressing was ok too, not bad not amazing. Of everything, I was impressed most with the bread on the sandwich. So crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside. Looking at their other baked goods, I might assume the bakery part of Tuscan Son might be better than the lunch part. The cakes and baked goods they had on display looked spectacular. Next time I am around I will probably pick one of these up instead of a sandwich. read more

Cute spot! My family member from NYC that loves French Italian Euro type cafe vibes chose this place to celebrate a family bday and vacay. Good for large groups - We had a part of 11 and sat outside and had one umbrella two heaters and plenty of space and didn't need the umbrella or the heaters as it was a warm day at sunset and while the evening got cool it wasn't cool enough to need the heaters. But I imagine on a warm day outside mid day you'd want the umbrella if seated outside and on a cool evening you'd want the heaters. So that's a nice to know option! Also given the pandemic state still, it's very nice to sit a large group outside! The bakery - get ready for a diabetic love/oh no moment! Lots of delicious options! Had the chocolate chip cookie at home warm and it was nummy! Would love it with pecans walnuts macamadia nuts or whatevs. The brownie cheesecake is good but they can lose the chocolate topping altogether, it's too much and hard to eat because it hardens when cold. The cream cheese muffin is sweet but good. The peach cake is dense and yummy, think olive oil cake style. The wedding cookie is huge and as expected. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their pastries or desserts. The food - I got the truffled Mac and cheese which was cheesy truffly goodness! The pasta was cooked perfect. Served hot in a skillet! I also got the steak and broccoli which was average. The steak lacked flavor but they give you chimichurri sauce which was good. The broccoli had Parmesan or something sprinkled on it but it wasn't helping lol. Broccoli was good but nothing special. This dish went well with the Mac n cheese. The location and parking is great! You can sit outside and watch the traffic and at night you can see the Temple lit up. Public Parking lot right next door! Service - it's a small place and they seemed short staffed and you order at the register seat yourself unless you have a large group reservation and they bring your food when it's ready. Low maintenance but also low service lol so don't come here to get waited on!! I'll definitely be back. Great spot to take guests visiting from out of town. read more

Wow, what a local gem! We came here on a whim searching for something nearby on Yelp and were very pleasantly surprised. The food is fresh and made with so much care and for West LA a great value. The outdoor patio is one of the prettiest I've seen, with a planter box of fresh flowers at each table. The menu spans fresh made pasta, panini, all day breakfast items (the panino is a must!) and gorgeous farm to table salads. Also freshly baked pastries and desserts. Not crowded during what you'd expect to be a peak brunch time. Plus there is free parking in the attached garage. I can't think of a better overall experience. This place is definitely a best kept secret in WLA. Find it off LITTLE Santa Monica Blvd (it truly is hidden!) right before the century city mall. read more

Well, we all know how hard it can be to find authentic food. Come to Tuscan Son in West Los Angeles for some great authentic Italian food. We stopped here a few weeks ago and had breakfast here. I got the Italian Panino meal. Panino Bread comes with it. All the lovely parmessian cheese and garlic. Its all made from scratch here too. Nothing precooked or premade here. Food is reasonably priced for real Italian, and the drinks here are awesome too. Nice vibe and good service here at this hidden gem. We will be back. read more

Every single time I have ordered went or gone here it has been amazing. The food and pastas especially are amazing. The place is small and sometimes crowded but usually with in about five minutes they can get you seated easily. They have their own little bakery too inside the restaurant right next to the check in. I would definitely recommend the vodka shrimp pasta. My gosh it's good. The servers are so nice and are always there to help. Thank you Tuscan son! Will definitely be coming back. read more
