In the fly, we found Tuscany Cafe and WOW what a great find it was! Small, but comfy. Quiet, but classic jazzy. The drip coffee was fresh, hot and STRONG. This review is based on one experience at Tuscany Cafe. My husband and I went one morning on April 21st, looking for food and coffee before our closing nearby. With our coffee and tea, we ordered an avocado toast with a side of bacon. There was no one in the cafe (as it was fairly early) and we were able to get seats at the narrow bar. About 10 - 15 minutes later a plate of avocado toast and scrambled eggs came out. I waited a few more minutes before asking, "Is the bacon coming out?"...The guy at the counter (stocky, facial hair) said "No", and turned away to ignore me. Again, the place was completely empty except us. I let it ago for some time, thinking he was just having a bad day, but now I find his rudeness unacceptable. Things he could have asked: "Did you order bacon?" "Is everything alright with your order?" "Is everything Ok?" To be clear, mistakes happen and I'm not upset about that. I ordered avocado toast with a side of bacon and received a side of scrambled eggs. It's not a big deal. I'm pissed this person made no attempt to address the situation (when it was clear I thought bacon was coming) and deliberately turned around to ignore me. Whether or not he'a having a bad day, it's bad customer service and I didn't receive what I paid for. read more

Tuscany Cafe is a tinyyyyyy little spot tucked into a large apartment complex on Locust. The space can fit about 6 people inside so the line typically goes a bit out the door. They have a small high top bar you can sit at, but it's so cramped in there, I wouldn't recommend it. They have a standard drink menu with a few rotational seasonal special drinks. Their food menu includes a handful of sandwich's and melts, but their are fairly costly, even given the location. While expensive, the Tuscany morning sandwich with pesto and mozzarella was incredible! The staff is friendly and everything came out great, but I'd likely hit a different spot if I saw a line running around the corner. read more

We stopped in for brunch after a weekend run workout. I was initially shocked at how small it was as I thought it was more of a sit down place. While they do have limited (like 4 or 5) seating, it primarily is a take out place. Do NOT hold that against them as both takeout and dine in food is A-Maz-ing! I went with the Caprese Avocado Toast and a large tea. Very fresh ingredients. Clearly patiently assembled. Most importantly, tasty! The chai tea had a hint of cinnamon and was served in a nice big cup at just right temperature. They do not really have "table service", again think limited seating. However, the staff behind the counter are patient, friendly, and polite. After enjoying my meal, I got something extra to-go! As such, I clearly recommend you stop by. I was visiting Philly for a staff retreat and I remembered Sicily Cafe because of good experience last year when I grabbed a cup yogurt with fruit and granola. I was hoping they were still there on this work visit! I called on the phone and asked if they could have a a mocha (made with soy milk) ready for me in 20 minutes since I was running late and the staff person was friendly and let me know that was possible! Upon arrival, my latte was extra warm as I like it. On the second day in Philly, I ordered a chai latte (prepared with black tea) and got an almond pastry to go.
