Then odds are you've never partaken in…read morethe weird and wild array of vegetable matter sold weekly at Blooming Glen's stand in the Headhouse Farmers Market. Organic and sustainably grown by farming family Tom Murtha and Tricia Borneman, Blooming Glen strives to maintain and expand the rich agricultural history of Bucks County. The ideals are noble, but the proof of success comes at the dinner table -- the rainbow chard, firm-fleshed potatoes and delicate garlic purchased from these folks transform ordinary meals into special occasions. As a cook, this superlative quality is absolutely thrilling. As a shopper, the stuff is not cheap -- but local and organic never is. You're supporting not only local farmers, but helping spread the gospel of local food when you buy here. This farm is fantastic. And if you have children, (I don't) I would bring them too and make it a family event. I was always so envious of those families who brought their kids and made it FUN to go find your own strawberries and cherry tomatoes. If you live near, you must buy a share! It broke my heart to hear about Tom and Tricia's harvest getting rotted after last year's unusual rainy season - I hope you will give this place a try. It is truly a wonderful place, though I won't be back this year having to work and spend too much time in Philly. One day I will be back though.
