I'm so glad I checked out happy hour at Lulu Bar. Their menu brings a Pacific coastal vibe,…read moreblending Hawaiian, Asian, Californian, and BC-inspired flavors. As soon as I walked in, I got that warm, beachy vacation-bar energy. We tried the char siu bao, pork belly, chicken wings, beef chuck, and their house-made Spam burger on a Hawaiian bun, along with a kale salad topped with gochujang macadamia nuts. Every dish delivered on flavor, but my favorites were the burger and the kale salad. Happy hour drinks were all reasonably priced, and I loved how they were served in cute glassware. They also had a great selection of local craft beers for $7, which was amazing. As a beer lover, I got to try brews from Dominion, Bellwoods, and Rorschach. I'll probably wait for a menu refresh and come back to try a whole new round of bites--but overall, such a great vibe for happy hour.

We tried the Summerlicious lunch menu and added a couple of skewers…read more Grilled Chicken Satay The chicken was juicy and not dry. The peanut sauce reminded me more of Chinese satay sauce than traditional satay--it was thick and covered the chicken completely, overpowering both the chicken itself and the turmeric spices. Personally, I prefer satay where the chicken is the star rather than the sauce. Beef Tongue Skewer Instead of the thick-cut beef tongue you'd find at an izakaya, this one uses thin slices stacked onto a skewer, more like Japanese yakiniku. The texture was tender, and each bite was packed with the sweet and tangy glaze. The downside is that the thin slices char easily, and some edges were a little overdone. Still, I thought it was an interesting idea. Charred Cabbage A generous portion that's great for sharing. The cabbage is paired with dan dan sauce, rayu, and kimchi furikake, bringing together Chinese, Japanese, and Korean flavors. None of them dominate, but they work surprisingly well together. Salmon Tartare The yuzu ponzu and avocado complemented the salmon beautifully. They enhanced its freshness while balancing the richness, making the dish bright and refreshing. Pork Belly Loco Moco A Hawaiian comfort food built around rice, meat, a runny egg, and gravy. This version uses charcoal-grilled pork belly and a sweet tonkatsu-style gravy, adding Japanese and Korean influences. It definitely feels like Pacific Fusion, although the different elements felt more like they were placed together than truly creating something new. Mochiko Fried Chicken My favorite dish of the meal. The crust was crisp and packed with flavor, rather than relying on a coating of sauce like Korean fried chicken. You first taste the seasoned crust, followed by juicy chicken. The rice also had a subtle coconut aroma that was a pleasant surprise. Mango Custard Tart Layers of mango jelly, salted cream, coconut Chantilly, and tart shell created a nice sweet-and-salty balance. Well executed, although it wasn't particularly memorable. Lemongrass Crémeux The lemongrass crémeux had a texture somewhere between mousse and pastry cream, with a slightly sandy richness that I really enjoyed. Pineapple jam added a vibrant tropical fruit note, while the mango pieces brought a pleasant contrast in texture. The lemongrass and sea salt tied everything together beautifully. A well-balanced sweet-and-savory dessert, and my favorite dessert of the meal. Overall, Lulu Bar is a fun Pacific Fusion spot with plenty of creative ideas. Not every dish was a hit, but several combinations really worked. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy some unique flavors without taking the meal too seriously, and that's exactly what I liked about it.

I'd…read moredefinitely recommend ordering ahead on their website since there's no indoor seating to wait, but it makes the whole experience much smoother. There are benches outside and counters where you can stand and eat, giving it a casual, quick-stop kind of vibe. It's also part market, so you can browse a selection of goodies while you're there. I tried the Antico Parma sandwich and it was delicious--definitely a spot I'd go out of my way for again. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

I recommend placing…read moreyour order around 45 minutes in advance because that was the soonest the site told me my order would be ready. I got 3 sandwiches for me and my family (4 people including me). What we ordered: Mona Lisa: 8/10 For both of the sandwiches the bread was very fresh and delicious! They make them fresh for each order and you can taste the quality. The flavours in the Mona Lisa worked really well together, I loved the truffle cream and burrata. Torino: 7/10 This sandwich was also good, but the I felt like it was lacking something, especially compared to the mona lisa. The spicy eggplant just tasted like plain pickled eggplant and wasn't that spicy. I feel like both sandwiches were a bit salty due to the prosciutto, and were missing some sweet or acidic element. I added some balsamic glaze and hot honey at home which was great! The portion sizes are HUGE, the 4 of us were quite full after splitting the 3.

Hakka food is traditionally spicy, but you can choose the spice level. It recently opened early May 2024. They are open from lunch until 2am/4am! We ordered the following: 1. Mango Lassi ($5.99). 2. Rose Milk ($4.99). 3. Cutting Chai ($3.50). 4. Singaporean Wow Noodle Bowl ($11.99) + Shrimp (+$3.99). Served with sirracha, cashews, and rice noodles. 5. Butter Chicken Noodle Bowl ($11.99) + Chicken (+$2.99). Using dry tomato buttery sauce. 6. Fried Beef Momos ($9.99), served with Boyz salad, garlic mayo, and fire sauce. 7. Chicken Lollipop ($13.99). 8. Chili Beef (not on the menu). 9. Beef Puff x 2 ($3.50 x 2). 10. Curry Chicken Puff ($3.50). The Mango Lassi and Rose Milk were good. They are on the sweeter side, but I like my drinks sweet. The Singapore Wow Noodle Bowl was as expected, except they have bean sprouts that we not cooked. I asked the restaurant, and they said it was meant as garnishes. But I pointed out that in Singapore, they eat bean sprouts as vegetables. They restaurant will look into cooking them. The Butter Chicken Noodle Bowl was unexpected. It wasn't your typical saucy butter sauce, but a dry version. It still had the taste of butter chicken, but probably with far fewer calories, which is great for me. The Fried Beef Momos had a good dipping sauce. The Chicken Lollipop was so juicy and tender. The chef made Chili Beef for us. It was very good and I recommend putting it on the menu! The Beef Puff and Curry Chicken Puff are usually eaten as a snack. I wanted to try them. They didn't disappoint. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. There are no customer washrooms. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2024-102
