Susan quoted me over $1200 for this adjustment, and when I said this was more expensive than my dress cost, I received the most unprofessional and rude response and was quite taken aback. "Yes, we pay humans who live and eat and pay rent in the United States, which is very different from the people who made your dress so it is usual that for dresses under $1000 alterations cost more than the dress. Good luck with your hunt." They don't know where I got my dress from, and I'm also someone living in NYC and doing my best. I think people are allowed to charge what they want or think their skill is worth, but I also think the wedding industry has lost their minds. I found an independent professional who did a beautiful job and charged a fair price. I have other dresses to be adjusted until my big day, and had considered saving them if I needed help for my main dress which will be more expensive, but based on this rude and entitled response, I already know to never go back to this business again.

In the store itself, it is very well curated, organized far better than the Salvation Army I struggled to search through. The men's section was bustling with good deals for vests, suit pants, and basic button downs. They also had a variety of athletic jerseys, swim trunks, and ties (which I found relatively overpriced). Side story: midway, I struck a conversation with the same aloof cashier previously mentioned, and she turned out to be very kind and funny. So, there's that. There was also a very nice young lady stocking in the aisles. The outcome was small, but great: a button down for less than three dollars, and these perfectly fitting shorts for less than seven. From, yeah, Banana Republic. The icing on the cake that really sells this place is their flyer in the front that showcases other thrift stores on the island you might not have known about. Sizing was difficult if your dress size is bigger than a size 8, colors are limited as most places will only have few color choices and fabrics. So my daughter would end up trying the dress she that was most close to her ideal dress. Pricing was another issue, by far Estelles was the most expensive to find a custom fitted dress. With all of that we were lucky to find this dress shop that has dresses, tuxedos and limousine rentals. We could have have saved a few more dollars if we had ordered directly from the dress makers but to avoid headaches we had my daughter measured with a dress that was form fitting to what she was looking for. We saw color samples of the different choice materials and of course she wanted lots of bling for the occasion. The dress was ordered in Late July and we just received the call a week ago that it finally has arrived. Today we went for a fitting and to make sure that the fabric and bling are exactly what we had envision. I am happy to report that we are all very happy so far with what we have experienced. Be aware if you decided to pay cash, you can save on the tax. The price of the dress does not include the pressing or the petty coat ring skirt. We are actually 2 weeks away from the final delivery date as there are some alterations that the dress requires. Stay tuned for the reveal... They have many styles and were so accommodating, pulling styles for me and showing things that I may like but have not considered. I ended up with a dress that was pulled out last! Also, I went in thinking I would buy a dress I previously tried on at a separate place and they were able to order it for me if I ended up deciding that I wanted that style from Allure. They are able to order dresses and are very honest with the time it takes to make and get delivered. Another thing to note is that they were not predatory at all which was so refreshing. I had a couple of experiences where I felt pressured to make a decision on the spot and then received many texts after asking me to make a choice which Ira did none of.
