First let me say the only reason I am not giving The Twenty Mile House one star is because the venue itself is very pretty and we didn't start experiencing issues until about a month before the wedding and more so the day of. This review is specifically based on the overall experience we had with owner the day of, the poor communication, and how things went overall on our wedding day. The key points are at the end of review :) I realize this is quite lengthy but I felt the need to share our experience. Late deposit: the contract states that Twenty Mile House will return the $2000 wedding deposit within a month, and we were told it wouldn't even take that long but rather it should only take 2 weeks at most. It took 46 days to get it back, in that time my husband and I contacted them several times inquiring of its whereabouts. on 7/14/15 I was told by the Wedding Planner that the owner was on vacation but that he'd be back within a couple of days & she'd remind him of our deposit & try to get it returned to us as quickly as possible. After not hearing anything for 2 weeks, I contacted her again on 7/28/15 and asked again about the deposit. Again she never responded and it made us feel concerned about our deposit and completely forgotten about. My husband then sent an email directly to the owner on 7/31/15 and heard nothing, flash forward about 1 week into August and my husband tries to call them first leaving a message, but with no return call tries again a couple of days later. This time he reaches the Wedding Planner who tells him that the owner just stepped for lunch but that he'll call us back. A few more days go by and we hear nothing so I try again and finally get a hold of the owner who tells me "he thought the deposit was sent out weeks ago" but made no mention of the numerous emails that we'd sent. Major Communication issues: My now husband & I booked this venue not long after we got engaged, after seeing the grounds in person we really liked how it looked & it seemed to be a good choice. In the beginning we didn't have any issues at all with The Twenty Mile House or its owner and everything was going well up until about a month before the wedding, that's when the poor communication really started to show. However, one large reason that lead me to leave two stars is due to our experience the day of our wedding. To start, 2 weeks before the event the Wedding Planner told me she'd be there on our wedding to help; in addition her name was on the timeline as being there. She was the one I had worked closely with and she knew all of the important information and our day of timeline. But to our surprise 3 hours before the wedding we found out that she wasn't going to be there. There were several problems with this the main ones are; first, no one told us about her being gone when we arrived, my brother had to go ask where she was and then we found out. Second, it seemed that no staff had the "Wedding Information" or "Wedding Timeline" sheet that was typed up by her, therefore, it appeared that no one knew what was supposed to be done. This left me and my husband having to explain what went where and giving all other details while trying to get ready, which was very stressful. Her not being there wouldn't have been an issue if the owner (who was there the whole time) would have taken on her duties, however, that was not the case by any means. The owner seemed unwelcoming to us: While the other TMH staff was welcoming & answered a couple of the questions that I had, I felt like the owner had an unfriendly attitude towards me when I first got there until he learned I was the bride. I wasn't even bothered by how he acted towards me, it was more so the fact that there were three guests who came up saying how rude he was to them. To me hospitality is a very important factor of any venue or business & we don't feel that the owner showed us that. Didn't feel like we were given what was promised to us: Next there was the fact that our Wedding Information sheet typed up by TMH stated that I would get ready in the "Main House" and my husband would get ready in the "CreekSide Cabin" Not only was it written but we were variably told it many times by the Wedding Planner. When it was time to get ready the owner said that we both where to get ready in the Main House, with me upstairs and the groom downstairs. Not having time to argue we went along with it, looking back I wish we wouldn't have because it made things very difficult. Pros: Beautiful venue. Friendly table setup & cleanup staff. Cons: Extremely poor communication from those who represent TMH. To us the owner seemed unfriendly the day of the wedding. Deposit was returned over 2 weeks past time stated on contract. What was written and promised differed from what they delivered. Overall TMH left us feeling disappointed in many aspects. read more

TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS ONE! I'm going to take the time to write the review I wish I would have found when I was wedding venue/vendor shopping. I'm going to break it all down for you and tell you what you really want to know. No BS. Overall: Twenty Mile House was hands down THE BEST WEDDING DECISION WE MADE. Every time I think about that magical day I feel so lucky to have found this place. It's exactly what I was looking for and more. So many of the typical issues that brides can have will be avoided simply by having TMH host your wedding. If you like the pictures/vibe on their website, then your search is over. This is the place you want. Book it. It's worth every penny and more. Trust me, I already wasted all my time asking the millions of questions and came up satisfied. Venue: Twenty Mile House itself is the stuff of wedding dreams. It is in the beautiful Lost Sierra's on a 200-acre vintage estate. The ceremony site is nestled in a clearing in the woods, surrounded by towering pines. It feels intimate, personal, and just perfect. The reception is set up on the red brick patio & garden lawns with a beautiful red brick house as the back drop. There's a cute little "general store" with a bar area outside and food & coffee/tea are served buffet style inside (if that's what you choose). There are white twinkle lights wrapped around all the trees and draping like a canopy over the seating area and dance floor. The grounds and gardens are pristine. There's a creek, a cute little bridge, a river, and railroad tracks. I mean, come on, what else could you ask for? It is understated elegance at its finest. Nitty gritty: We got married on April 26th, 2022 and stayed at TMH for 3 nights. The entire place is included with all the cabins so 36 people can stay comfortably on site. It includes your choice of ceremony and reception site, arch, tables, chairs, linens, tableware, glassware, ALL staff/servers/bartenders, set-up, and take-down. You just tell them how you want everything and they make it happen. Vendors included are a wedding coordinator, caterer, baker, photographer, DJ, and florist. You just need to find your own videographer, transportation, hair & makeup, stationary, and any other extras you want. (But they have a list of recommended vendors on their website.) This AMAZING team of vendors each orchestrate their part flawlessly. That was one of the things that I didn't even realize would be a huge benefit until afterwards. There were ZERO coordination issues. This staff does nearly 100 weddings a year together. Everyone knows their role and they have figured out how they intersect with each other. They know how the other thinks and can nearly read each other's minds. Best part is this all happens behind the scene and they pull it off like a beautiful dance. You feel like royalty. Everyone is there to support you and make your day (or days) perfect. From the moment we unloaded our stuff, they handled EVERYTHING. Even things I expected to have to do, I would find it already handled exactly as I would have handled it. You can expect to do all the planning, communicate the details, and then leave the coordination and execution to them! It's glorious. The team at TMH exceeded our expectations in the ways they were able to not only pull off our vision EXACTLY, but also anticipate all our needs and desires. I was never made to feel like any request was too much, but rather that they were eager and excited to accommodate. You'll leave here feeling like you stepped out of a fairy tale and you were a queen for a day. *sigh* In a nutshell: If you want to have the wedding of your dreams and not lose your mind trying to pull it off, this is the place for you. Our experience with Twenty Mile House was mixed. At first everything was great, we met with the owner and wedding planner to view the grounds and discuss options for our wedding. Honestly everything was awesome up until a month or so before the wedding. They were helpful and easy to deal with. But once the wedding got close and especially the day of the wedding, something changed. I feel that the biggest problem with Twenty Mile House was the horrible communication and lack of hospitality on the wedding day. Emails to the owner should not take more than a week to be responded to when you have less than 30 days before your wedding. Up until several hours before the wedding we were under the impression the wedding planner would be there to make sure everything was running smoothly, but on the day of our wedding she didn't show up. My wife spent several phone calls setting up a time line for the day of the wedding that the wedding planner was supposed to take care of and manage to make sure everything was on schedule. Well the wedding planner didn't show up and we didn't find this out until we got to the venue the day of our wedding and she was not there. No phone call, no email, no text, nothing to let us know. The part that really upsets me is that the owner was there when we arrived and never bothered to tell us the planner was not coming. He didn't even try to take on her responsibilities or anything to help us with organizing the timeline of "day of events". Fortunately my brother-in-law stepped up and helped take care of it because no one at Twenty Mile House would. Another problem we had on the wedding day was the location where we would be getting ready. The wedding planner specifically told us that we would be getting ready in separate buildings and she even wrote this down on the Wedding Information Sheet. But when we arrived the owner told us we would both be getting ready in the same house, not in separate buildings and didn't tell us why this had been changed. It wouldn't have been such a problem had my wife not had to walk down stairs to use the restroom when she was getting ready all while making sure we didn't accidentally see each other in the same house. On top of that, they locked us out of the house with our belongings inside and we had to chase down a staff member to unlock the house so we could get our personal items out of the house. During the wedding day the owner also had a somewhat rude attitude. He wasn't very nice to my wife when we first arrived until he realized she was the bride and quickly changed his tone. I even had an uncle ask me who the "mad guy standing at the bar was". I looked over and it was the owner looking out at the dance floor and tables with a very stern look on his face. This continued several times throughout the night. To top off the whole experience we tried to contact them many times to get any information about our deposit. My wife emailed Twenty Mile House twice, I emailed them twice and then I called twice and she called once before we finally got any kind of response. After 4 emails and 3 phone calls over the course of several weeks we finally got a call back. There was absolutely no response from them for weeks while we tried to get a hold of them. The communication was extremely poor and unprofessional. Although there were stressors and disappointments brought on by the Twenty Mile House we still had a beautiful wedding thanks to family and friends. read more

We are almost one month into married life and we continue to relive our PERFECT wedding at the Twenty Mile House! We fell in love with the property when we saw the forest ceremony site and learned about the option to float the river that runs through the property! However what truly sold us on the venue was the coordinator Rachel!!! We needed someone we could trust as we live in Southern CA. Little did we know just how much we would need to trust her when a global pandemic hit just months before our big day! Here is a rundown of our vendors: Catering: Southern Accent- Kent and Adrienne were SO KIND and accommodating! All of our guests raved about the food and were big fans of the last night pizza. We also hired them to cater our rehearsal dinner. They were so attentive and even joined us on the dance floor for a few songs! Dessert: Grandma Jane's- Kimberly and her daughter nailed every dessert! We did a cutting cake (best cake I've ever had) mini cupcakes, mini pies, and mini cheesecake bites. They nailed the maple donut cupcake and the lace design on the cutting cake I had asked for was beautiful! Florals: Gray's Florals- Sonia is a true artist! I envisioned neutral flowers and pampas grass complemented by copper and mercury glass accents. She nailed everything and was able to swap out a bridesmaid bouquet for additional florals only days before the wedding. We gave her lots of freedom in terms of specific florals which allowed her to work her magic and nail our vision! DJ Jon: He was a fill in for the planned DJ but he was awesome! He had people dancing all night long and even stayed a bit extra to let the party continue. He had great energy and was a wedding guest favorite! Bar: The drinks were tasty and Joseph and staff did not stop working the entire night! They even left drinks out for us once the staff left at midnight. A perk of TMH is no noise ordinance so we were up till almost 3am! We sourced photo and video separately and they NAILED it! I will write separate reviews but 32 Degree Media and Taylor McCutchan are the best in their craft! These were #1 on my priority list behind a stunning ceremony site as they allow you to relieve every detail. We received our teaser and previews for both within weeks (photo we had the very next day!!) and we couldn't be happier! Coordinator/ Staff: Rachel and the TMH staff work non-stop to make your vision come true. We stayed on property Thursday till Sunday and every detail was taken care of from sun up to sun down! We could not have asked for a better coordinator than Rachel. She was organized, calm, accommodating, and FUN! She hyped us up for the big weekend but kept us calm as we navigated the unexpected challenges of COVID.  One piece of advice when planning any wedding at any venue is to understand your contracts with all vendors. Understand how situations like COVID (is there even something similar to this?!) or other unpredictables impact your date/ planning process. Our wedding process was so SMOOTH until COVID which was uncharted territory for everyone. Nonetheless, with Rachel at the wheel and the great vendors that work with TMH, our wedding weekend came together perfectly and safely! read more

My wife and I are so happy we stumbled upon this beautiful place. We were looking for a place to spend our 15 year wedding anniversary and just came across the Twenty Mile House while browsing the web. We stayed in the Creekside cabin which provided us with all the amenities and lots of space to really relax and enjoy a great getaway. The kitchen was fully stocked with all we needed including freshly ground organic coffee - that was a nice treat! Nice comfortable living room and we loved the bedroom which sits over a creek and has great windows providing views of the forest. We spoiled ourselves with breakfast one morning at the main house bed and breakfast and Kevin the owner served us a delicious generous breakfast of his house favorite Banagaku (Finnish pancake) - delicious -, along with potatoes, fresh fruit and chicken sausage. Kevin was very welcoming and friendly and shared the amazing history of the place dating back to 1854. The main house is very charming and has beautiful gardens and we would consider coming back and next time trying out one of the rooms in the bed and breakfast. Overall we really loved our stay and will be back. read more

Best. Day. Ever. I cannot imagine our wedding going any more smoothly thanks to the TMH staff! Rachel and Penny are amazing planners and so incredibly organized. They provide useful worksheets to help the planning process go smoothly and they are very communicative. Plus it's all inclusive. So everyone works together like a well oiled machine: from our amazing caterer Holly to Rochelle the best photographer ever, DJ Will, Sonia the florist, everyone was spectacular and organized. Our rowdy crew really enjoyed staying on-site for three days as well. Weddings go by so quickly so it was nice to have the weekend to celebrate versus one day. The wedding day itself was flawless and all of our guests are still raving over a week later as to how gorgeous everything was. The Twenty Mile House is the wedding venue you always dreamed of as a little girl (not exaggerating). The privacy and seclusion makes it seem like the world stands still just for your special day. It was so nice to have our immediate family onsite in the cabins and main house. The staff/vendors do their absolute best to make sure that your every want and desire is achieved while still making you feel special amongst the many brides that they see. The event planner Susie is fun to work with, honest (a plus) and makes sure all the bases are covered. They even had helpful worksheets to keep my thoughts organized and my vision clear. My family and friends could not stop saying what a great time they had. My husband and I were very thankful to have this important day in such a unique and beautiful location. Stayed two nights in Creekside Cabin in summer of 2010. Cabin pictures are representative of what is posted for this cabin. Whatever they have on the roof of this cabin (metal type) when pine cones or leaves fall makes it very hard to sleep and I'm used to city noise. Shades in bedroom bring in to much light for my taste. For privacy it need curtains. Very small front and back porch. Not much of a view around the cabin. Road into the property is right outiside the door of this cabin. If you like to be alone and not mingle with others this will be good for you. Not much of a river area to sit in - area was crawling with big black ants. General store is good to see. We had our wedding at the The Twenty Mile House last weekend and it was absolutely perfect! Kevin is so easy to work with and his positive and laid back attitude gave me the greatest peace of mind on my big day. He offered suggestions and was super helpful, but also let us follow through with our own vision. Our wedding was October 14th, 2017 at the Twenty Mile House and it was a dream! Rachel is fantastic and really knows what she's doing. She will help you plan out every second of your special day.
