LYDIA! The owner of this little shop, before you even get into how awesome the baked goods are - let's talk about her! She is amazing. Seriously. A sweet lady with a heart of gold, who literally starts baking at 3am, holy cow! The shop itself is in a cute little area right above downtown below Grand Blvd. and has the cutest bakery vibes ever. We love it. Super glorious in the summertime and more than anything when you pull up to the shop you can smell the heaven in there. I tried the coffee cake, the cupcakes and some of her rosemary bread and all three were phenomenal. Absolutely amazing, moist goodness. I would definitely come back. I just had the best cup of coffee from a cafe. French press and a little cream. Smooth and tasty. It went well with their 3-5 ingredient peanut butter cookie. ( I can't remember how many ingredients) but not many. The bakery offers interesting flavors and GF also. I'm not a huge fan of everything because I have a preference for the heavy gluten style white bread of GHB- on 29th or sourdough with the chewy crust like Glorious. But there's a place and taste for everyone ! I like the small biz vibe- it's good people helping you there and the ingredients are good. I like supporting a business with integrity. Just as you drive up Grand past Sacred Heart Hospital you see Twenty Seventh Heaven. I hung a quick right and stopped in this new bakery last Sunday. Since Rockwood Bakery is no longer open on Sunday I see a new player in town for the South Hill Sunday crowd! We tried a few things in house (coffee, coffeecake, cupcakes) and picked up a loaf of bread to go. My favorite part of the experience was the Pesto Garlic Bread! This bread made the most amazing toast and I will definitely go back to get bread here. It had so much flavor and had this really perfect chewy texture. Highly recommended! The store itself is clean, cute, and trendy. Service is fine. But huge prices for small portions of decent bakery makes it hard to see around around a two-star designation. The interior is blandly chic with cute little chalkboard signs, Martha Stewarty touches of flair and a unified design asthetic. It's the kind of place that exudes charm and good vibes until you actually have to sit in the uncomfortable chairs and try to conversate in the cavernous minimalist setting. To be fair, this seems to be THE design choice of small businesses today but it doesn't make it any more bearable. I am a fat fleshy human being, not a background object in a Crate & Barrel catalog. Gimme comfort! Gimme human warmth! Service is ok. The business owner seems to run the show herself which is probably a necessary business decision but one with some clear drawbacks. A single clerk focused on customer service is going to outperform a multi-tasking owner any day of the week, but this may not be feasible so it's not a huge deal. The biggest problem here is value, plain and simple. If you're charging Silicon Valley prices, the product needs to meet an exceptional standard of quality, or the portions need to be increased. A tiny slice of coffee cake looks so precious on a plate, but at this price point it's a kind of pretentiousness I don't respect... unless the product is jaw-dropping... which it isn't. Coffee cake is good. Crumbly. A touch drier than I'd like. Flavorful. Cupcakes are moist. Flavors are clear but shallow; surprisingly lacking in complexity and depth. read more

I was not impressed by this place. The person running the shop Friday evening was really over being there and had no desire to be there. A group of friends and I went at 2:00 pm knowing that it closed at 3:00 pm. We jut got a coffee and a dessert. The person kept reminding us they closed at 3 over and over as soon as we got there. Very disappointing. First, the counter person had zero personality. Not a bad personality, just ..... nothing. No hello, how may I help, nothing. Ok, maybe she was having a bad day. Then, there was a very limited selection of stuff. Just nothing that really stood out and no selection to speak of. We ordered the apple crumb cake and it was OK, but nothing special.. They do not have an expresso machine. They also do not have a microwave for warming up a pastry if desired. Oh yeah, and the little samples of their bread...... stale. This is a charming scratch bakeshop. I have had all of their breads and they are all delicious. All of them tastes just like the homemade bread! The potato rosemary and the garlic pesto breads are so flavorful! The potato chive bread tastes just like the baked Chinese scallion rolls! The oatmeal honey makes a great grilled ham sandwich. The cinnamon swirl bread is tasty and they only have them on the weekends. Their coffee cake is absolutely the best kind I have ever had! The cupcakes are dense and moist. I am not the icing person and the Swiss meringue buttercream frosting is delicious. Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes are my favorite!! I stopped in yesterday to meet relatives and loved everything I tried. Normally I'm a coffee person but I opted for a vanilla chai because I heard they make their own spice blend. It was perfect and not too sweet. The almond poppy scone was calling my name because I love almond, and it had a super soft, tender texture. This bakery is known for their coffee cake, so I bought a piece of apple cider coffee cake to bring home, plus a mini "natural rye" loaf. My boyfriend and I loved the coffee cake, plenty of crumb, which is what I like! I had a little taste of rye, but look forward to having more toasted or for sandwiches. It's a mild rye. This a two baker operation so don't expect a million options, but know that what's offered will be made with heart and soul and is absolutely delicious! The BEST bread! It's the star of the shop in my opinion. Buy a mini loaf and good luck not eating the whole thing in your car. We bought a full size loaf (very worth the price) and brought it on a ski trip. We toasted up slices with good butter and fruit on the side for 2-3 breakfasts. Such a good meal. This is the kind of bread you want when you don't eat a lot and want the best, to impress company or just like intentional quality ingredients.
