I thought this place was really cool, and I'm not a coffee shop person. It's located in what I think is downtown Spokane. It was fairly busy when we came in, but there was no line at the counter, and it didn't take long for our drinks to come out. There's plenty of seating inside, and everybody seems in a good mood and everybody seems like they're having a good time. They were also baking some kind of bread, and it just smelled absolutely incredible. Although I didn't have any. They also do this thing where they give people... At least certain people... Free coffee. Which I thought was really cool and really generous of them. So why four stars instead of five? And this isn't exactly their fault, but parking sucks. It's street parking, there's a meter, there is a lot but it's confusing and the rules are confusing. So if you're walking from somewhere else this place is great, if you're driving in to meet for coffee it's a little bit annoying, if you just want to stop in and get something to go, it's going to be a big hassle. Unassuming corner coffee spot. Offers the staples of a normal coffee experience; bagels, breakfast sandwich, pastries, etc. Floor is terribly dirty, so if you have kids be wary with that. The staff was bland, unfriendly, and were the definition of "I hate my job". The service past the attitudes was slow, haphazard, and again showed zero care. Service was friendly and quick. The fudge mocha was blended and amazing. I couldn't decide which bakery items because they all looked fabulous. We ended up with a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and a raspberry oat bar. Both so delicious. There is outside seating as well as a couple of inside locations. I got an iced coffee, a sugar cookie, and some bagels. Everything was pretty tasty. It didn't knock my socks off but I'll definitely be back. I've tried the Café Genera and the Honey Almond Latte and both were fantastic! If you are looking for a spacious place to have a meeting and get some work done, with the option of having coffee or a beer and a treat or some food, then this place is for you. The only thing that I'm not thrilled about is their parking lot, but at least they have one! It seems as though, if you are lucky enough to park in the lot, the only way out is backing your way out of the lot and onto the street! Yikes! If you visiting Spokane, you may have a little trouble finding this place as it is on the edge of the downtown area, probably not in walking distance from your hotel, unless you are an adventurous type. They have a good selection of cookies and bakery goods. They have a soup of the day and a variety of sandwiches to go with it. Quiche and bagels are also available. Really great atmosphere, when we walked in no only was the warmth very pleasant, but the greetings were warmer. We felt very welcomed and were given no pressure to order. We looked at the food and the menu and decided what we wanted. The baristas were so kind and so friendly, answered all our questions and made great suggestions. My boyfriend got a Bacon and cheese frittata and a cold brew. The frittata was outstanding and the cold brew was great. I had a cinnamon roll (which are huge) and a Earl Gray Tea. The two words that I have loved for years. Lox. Bagel. I swear by it and it is so tasty and fresh and everytime I come to the Rocket I think I am going to try something different and then it never happens. I always get the smoked salmon bagel. It has the cream cheese, the onions, the capers. All the fancy stuff in a little coffee shop on the side of town. I love their menu, their staff and the people that choose to visit as well. I ordered a soy chai in a mug and a chocolate biscotti, both were delicious and complimentary. The chocolate biscotti was in a glass jar and not pre-wrapped in plastic. My mother ordered a caffe generra w/an orange biscotti and would recommend to anyone who loves orange chocolate coffee. There was a whole case of pastries to pick from, along w/quiche, & deli sandwiches. Also, apparently there are several other locations in Spokane. However, with this particular location you get to enjoy some amazing historical views of beautiful downtown Spokane. I would recommend this place to any other coffee shop goers. read more

When life gets too big, I find running away to coffee shops makes the big feel not so overwhelming. And the Rocket Bakery has quickly turned into one of safe spots downtown. I ordered the cold brew with cream and a Greek bagel. The coffee was smooth and crisp. The bagel larger than life both in size and flavor. As I dove into my journaling which was being guided by a stunning sun beam, the gentle sounds of the coffee machine steamer hissed and meaningful conversations were being whispered. My favorite Rocket Bakery location. I walk up the stairs from Peaceful Valley and *BAM!* there it is. I'm currently doing penance because I just now found out about this place. It's the closest food/drink place to my house, and I've been at my current location for 7 months...I can be quite the village idiot sometimes. Notables: - Nice little patio section (I probably wouldn't have mentioned this normally, but the weather was perfect when I stopped by this morning) - As others have wisely noted, interior is both spacious and cozy. It is the jumbo shrimp of indoor spaces. - BEER SELECTION! As one of Spokane's council of 12 beer geeks I feel like a fool for not knowing about this place. Lots of good bottled beer to drink there or take some to-go. (I don't advocate discretely drinking a micro-brewed ale in a park on a beautiful day and recycling it...that's against the law of course) - For all you wine people out there, the wine selection looked to be pretty decent as well. - The roast beef bagel sandwich. It has HORSERADISH! And the horsey hasn't been neutered/guilded either, it actually packs some nose-fume punch, kudos for not nerfing the horseradish guys! - Baked goods: it IS a bakery after all. I'm not much into baked goods/sweets, however there were many to be had here, and they were effing YUGE! Is it just me or have only the biggest and baddest of carrot cakes been passing on their genes resulting in bigger-than-a-breadbox personal carrot cakes? (this applies to most all baked goods. Muffins, I'm lookin' at you too) So why not 5 stars? I've been feeling like a whore lately, I give 'em up too easily. and I'm kind of cheap. $8 for a bagel sandwich and coffee to go just doesn't feel quite right to me. We are here from California under unfortunate circumstances (Death in the Family). We stayed close to this coffee shop and went down every morning for our Lattes. I was met each morning by a young lady named Kelly. She is the barista. She is probably the most friendliest and kind human being in the world. As I patiently waited in line I watched her greet each customer (Most by their first name) and have conversation all while working extremely hard to get the beverages out. As an owner of a company, I would say that she is an employee that exemplifies the characteristics that we would be looking for in someone. She is able to have meaningful dialogue all while not slowing her pace down. She put a smile on my face everyday and was certainly instrumental in starting my mornings off great! Her (I believe Father) was also having a full Honor Guard burial in a few weeks. We shared that with each other. Thank you for his service to our country Kelly. Thank you for being so positive. I was pleased to see this Rocket Bakery opened in downtown right next to the mall. It shares the location with a bank. The interior small, there is a big table in the middle and few smaller tables on the side. Its location is great for people watching and studying. The bakery items are good, we got a choclate croissant and apple turn over. The size is good, but price is a little high at $3.75 each.

We stayed at the Montvale hotel and this was in perfect waning distance for a nice chilly morning walk. We enjoyed the best cinnamon roll we ever had (order it warmed up!) and also a delicious everything bagel toasted with butter that came along side some fresh fruit salad. For our "dessert" we had an ice cold, tart and sweet lemon bar! The fruit danish was Interesting and more like a bread than a traditional flakey patent. This was a wonderful place to meet a friend for coffee and to stay afterwards and study. I met my friend around 9:30 on a Saturday. Easy street parking close by, and there were meters that take cards! Awesome. I ordered a vanilla latte and a berry scone, warmed up. Both were very good. They have ample seating which is nice, you aren't right on top of your neighbors. It's also just spacious in general. My friend got the potato quiche which she very much enjoyed. When we parted ways I moved to a table more in the back and stayed and studied undisturbed for 3 hours. It was wonderful. I can't wait to go back and try some more of their delicious looking offerings! Specifically their Thai noodle salad and a bagel w/ cream cheese & lox :D This was a great find. Seriously, I've been hard pressed to find much of anything food related that has impressed me, so I wasn't expecting to find a good bagel within 200 miles of where I live, but a friend took me to Rocket, and BAM! They knocked it out of the effing park. A couple months later I was driving a friend who lives in NYC to the Spokane airport and we hadn't had any breakfast, so I suggested we hop into Rocket for a bagel and coffee. There are plenty of Rockets in Spokane to visit. Most of them carry the same pastries (depending on availability) and all of them serve the same great Caffe Vita coffee beans. True, some baristas are better than others, but for the most part, every Rocket is great. My personal favorite, however, is the Rocket on Cedar and 1st. This is the old home of Fitzbillies Bagels, a Spokane favorite with unbeatable bagels. Then, the Rocket bought the joint and now THEY make the best bagels in town. The baristas here are spot on, it's been at least 3 years since I've had a beverage there that needed improving. They have a hug selections of baked goods: scones, cakes, cinnamon rolls, muffins, bars, breads, and cookies of all kinds. (You've seen the pink cookie, you know you love it.) They have a very reasonably priced breakfast bagel that is absolutely addictive. Try it with an asiago cheese bagel and have them go light on the turkey ham. It's delectable. If you're not in a baked goodie/coffee mood, they have soups, salads, sandwiches, and a large beer and wine selection. You could meet anyone here at any time and everyone would find something they liked and were in the mood for. If you're a Spokanite, you can't walk in here without seeing at least two people you know. At least, I never can. Like other well-loved downtown establishments, The Rocket on First has great outdoor seating. It's a great place to walk from Browne's Addition and enjoy your morning coffee with your four-legged friends. If you're from out of town and you're looking for great coffee, you won't be let down here. It's easy access on and off the freeway, and most people don't know that there's free parking in the lot just west of the building. Enjoy! read more

You practically can't turn a corner in Spokane without running into a Rocket Bakery. As running into things go, you could do a lot worse than the Rocket. I mean, the Rocket on Howard practically got me through grad school. The bagels and pastries are delicious, as are the pre-made salads, quiches, and sandwiches. Drinks are good, too. Most of the Rockets have wi-fi, and the atmosphere is clean and inviting. Hanging out seems to be encouraged. And if you get there early enough, you just might be able to grab one of the prized bags of day-old bagels for $1.00. Bonus! What's not good about the Rocket? Oh, that would be the service. Most of the Rocket branches I've visited have had surly, hipster barrista types working behind the counter. "So sorry be a bother while you're standing there doing nothing, but could I trouble you for a pesto bagel?" Not so great. But there are a few gems out there, like the Rocket on Howard. Everyone there has always been unfailingly nice and helpful. I only wish the employees of all the Rockets could be as terrific. read more

I live downtown now and the location isnt as nice, but the product is always amazingly delicious and the nobake cookies are still my favorite. From the outside, this coffee shop is awesome. They have a cool corner location, and the environment inside seems like a very laid back vibe. But when my husband & I visited this shop before going on a hike with our dogs, it was mediocre coffee and ridiculously slow and rude customer service. We walked up to the counter, pondered the menu for a few minutes, and proceeded to wait several minutes for anyone to look our direction or hint at taking our order (not a problem if they are busy, but there was only one in-store customer getting a simple coffee refill, and three baristas behind the bar). We were friendly and ordered our drinks, and the entire time they spoke to us and interacted with us as though we were doing them a disservice by interrupting them. We ordered our coffee, and waited another ten minutes before one latte and one drip coffee were ever ready. Before walking out, my husband said, "Have a good day!", to which they stared at him like something out of an alien horror movie. We haven't been back since, and unless you are looking for a little torture with your morning roast, I wouldn't recommend visiting. read more

Half sized portion of the Greek wrap (hummus, tomatoes, feta, black olives, and cucumbers), small Thai chicken pasta salad that comes with your choice of a bagel or a day-old pastry. I went with the pesto cheddar bagel. Wrap was bland and needed a tangy Greek dressing sort of sauce in it. The veggies were cut more for a hamburger and not a wrap making it really awkward and messy to eat. Lastly, the pasta salad was bland and didn't spell Asian to me. Ambiance is nice. Quaint cafe looking place in Downtown. They also have an open layout, like the doors slide open so you feel like your sitting outside but are actually still inside. Community tables available too.
