Folks who were eating seemed happy with the food - I didn't eat because I have weird food allergies. The bartender seemed friendly enough but he was unsure of the gluten-free status of the cider they had available (which means I didn't have any.) I was introduced to the T-Room by my Portland-native bf and his family--who by doing so have just added another regular to the pool! It's a cozy little dive bar with solid specials, venue, and food. We love this place. I'll keep it short and just agree with Alexandra G's review--she's got it spot on there. I will say that the service can be a little inconsistent based on who's serving/tending to you and how busy the bar is, which is the only reason I gave 4 stars. Protip: If Joseph is cooking--you're in for a treat. The man puts love in his cooking and it feels like it every time we have anything prepared by him! Best Features - Multiple Crisp TV Monitors throughout bar and the Food. I've been here a handful of times for work lunches, not so much beer, hanging out. I joined some friends to watch a little Blazers. I waited for a friend and sat at the bar alone for like 10 minutes before being acknowledged or waited on. Not good, two people were working near me and they were not slammed busy. I didn't flag anyone down or initiate service, I just waited. I joined friends at a table later and things were fine, but beers dry and no server in sight. It all was sorted, and the cook delivered food, a nice touch. I hadn't been here in years and years. I can't even recall how many, people could still smoke inside (oh, those were the days, stupid pink lungers). Long ago enough that I'd forgotten it's a pool bar. Like all pool bars it's best enjoyed at night, but after a punishing walk in the thrice damned summer sun I was still glad to get out of the hateful yellowface. (seriously, fsck summertime ya jerks). There's a pretty big bar right near the door, some booths and a few tall tables. Unfortunately there's also a patio, so that's where the people who we were there to meet were. I guess it's a nice patio, if you can ever count picnic tables and dirt as an acceptable place for humans to take nourishment (spoiler alert: you can not). But I won't hold it against the TR that pampered modern humans have forgotten what our caveman ancestors learned. Eat inside, fools. Anyhoo. The bartenders were super polite, pretty quick for being outnumbered. There's a big forest of tap handles and what looks like a decent liquor selection. And the food. I got a really good bacon cheeseburger, then had to go back for the popcorn chicken. Now, it's not as good as the Colonel's but it wasn't bad at all. The bacon chz was about $12 which I'm forcing myself to accept as the going rate, but $7.50 for the popcorn chicken felt a little steep. Drink prices were okay, $3 for PBRs and $7.50 for Tanqueray and tonic. Not bad, but not great. I was with a decent crowd so I got to see a good range of orders. My good lady's chicken strip sandwich (they called it a chicken club, but that was a chicken strip) looked tasty and she said she enjoyed it. The chicken strip salad (I'm sensing a pattern) also looked really good. Someone else ordered a chips and cheese plate (I can't remember what the menu called it) with a side of pulled pork. The drinks are priced well enough, pool tables are fun and I liked the sort of antique furniture and such. Its pretty spacious too, compared to places like mock crest tavern or toms bar and grill. The music was typical bar music, a mix between classic rock and pop. And I swear, most of the guys around the pool tables looked like mountains with arms, is this the after practice hangout for a football team?? The bartender ignored my friends and I (coworkers actually) for about five minutes to have conversation with what I assume was a regular based on the familiar way in which they spoke to each other. Towards the end of the night, he called out "close your tabs and get the fu*k out of my face". I wasn't fond of his exclamation. Fine place to play a game of pool, grab a cold one but be wary at closing time, the bartenders seem to let their eagerness to close up quickly as possible affect their ability to speak appropriately to customers. I get that you are all "butt rock" and things but that is not a ticket to treat your patrons like dirt. I knew I said I wouldn't go back after the last horrid experience, but my friends convinced me to go just one last time after a late night dinner across the street. Upon entering, the bartender bombastically marched over to our table, didn't ask, DEMANDED to see our ID's. He then made a comment about my friend's ID being out of shape and then disappeared without offering anyone drinks. Her ID was a little banged up but she is 40 not 21 and everything was legible including the valid expiration date. The fact that he accosted the hell out of us the minute we walked in the door, gave us a hard time and then left, without even offering drinks, was enough for me to want to leave immediately. We waited for our friend to come back from the restroom to let her know we where going, when the bartender reappeared to say that we all had to leave because of the ID. I stopped him mid sentence and said "Baby, the pleasure is ours." Funny that we went right across the street to the P club (owned by the same people) and the bartender there didn't think twice about the same ID. This was of course, after a patron went off on her, called her a bitch and stormed out the door because she had been flirting with some other dude at the bar instead of closing out his tab like he had asked minutes prior. Quality, people you hire, owners of the T-room and the P-club! Maybe after they get another 90's tattoo, and smoke some reefer at the next Nickelback concert they will learn to be less agro. read more

This isn't my bar of choice, but it's a decent place to get a drink. I try to stay away on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the weekends since it's mainly filled with UP students from down the street, but I enjoy the spaciousness of the place and the abundance of outside seating. The food is a tad overpriced for what it is, but sometimes I can't resist getting nachos as a snack when I'm drinking ;) Drink prices are fair but not necessarily cheap as well. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this bar. But if you're in the neighborhood, it's worth a shot! read more

Let me break it down for you. T-Room and the Lion's Eye Tavern are my two favorite divey bars in Portland. It's these spots that I wish I could swing by everyday after work + exercise where I could just slip away into deep alcoholism. Just kidding about the alchy part. T-room has the friendliest most krumugin like bar tenders and bouncers (close to University of Portland, read lots of rich kids with cash to spring for fake IDs). The world best tater tots. The only time tater tots taste amazing is when they're from the T. Room. The best grilled veggie grilled cheese (it comes with a mini cup of horseradish sauce!). It's that dive bar where you find just want you wanted - comfort and guilt free iIndulgement (guilt free because you never remember what happened the next day). I didn't even mention the amazing kareoke and draft brewski selection. I'm pretty sure professionals come here Saturday night? Can anyone vouch for that? Beer selection is fantastic. Ohmigod, the T-room. I have been coming here for YEARS and i'm only 26;) So many good memories and too many good things to say about this place. -The food is the best bar food in North Portland. Crispy natural-cut fries, huge burgers, great wraps, but mind the stale popcorn by the entrance. The grubby hands of drunk UofP students have been sifting through it. -The mix of patrons is hilarious. The drunk college kids (neighborhood people, you know WAY better than to go in there on a Thursday night!), the blue-collars, the service industry people come crawling post-shift from St. John's other bars and restaurants, and the old people who remember North Portland when it was seriously considered the hood. Hahahhaha. -I ended up living across the street from this place for four years, and the bartenders are great. They might be surly at times, but they make stiff drinks and there were plenty of nights when I trudged in there by myself and ended up laughing and talking smack with the staff on weird patrons or our own life experiences. Always made me feel better. -They do decent bloody mary's, and show football on Sundays. Old guys in North Portland appreciate that. Lastly, I miss Bart. The place isn't the same without him. Great bartenders and surprisingly good food make for a great dive bar in NoPo. There always seems to be a very eclectic mix of patrons and everyone seems to have fun. Entertainment varies from karaoke to live bands, to just watching attempt being entertaining using one of the aforementioned manners. Good sized building and open layout make for plenty of room for plenty of people, ranging for college frats and Suzy Qs to the over-40 crowd hanging out. The food is a definite big bonus here! The T-Room. Memories I made here will be forever etched (even if a little blurry) in my mind. Years ago I was one of those UP kids mentioned in every other review that sent the locals running for the next dive bar on Thursday nights when we invaded. I used my fake ID for the first time here, I sang karaoke for the first time here, I enjoyed pitcher after pitcher of Pabst Blue Ribbon here and I came back in sweat pants on many Friday mornings after realizing that I never closed my tab. Yes, we sang out loud to classic rock anthem favorites performed live by John Stapleton and drunkingly ended our bi-annual pub crawl here. I'm sure the Twilight Room is like hundreds of other university area 'dive bars' and I'm sure my friends and I mimicked millions of students getting their drink on and relishing in all things college- but I don't care- it was really fun. OK- nostalgia aside- the T-Room is actually a pretty cool bar. It's spacious and well designed for maximum bar space, pool tables, stage and booths. The drinks are cheap and the food is solid. Nothing like a big plate of T-Room fries to soak up the booze. And for those of us college students who were really strapped for cash, they have delicious free popcorn. I used to take a dish back to class with me after we would go there for our 5 minute beer chugs as soon as the professor said "OK- let's take a quick break." *** THIS IS THE SECOND PART OF MY HUSBANDS REVIEW OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT. So, by this time my friend told me to look in the direction of the kitchen behind the bar, where a large paper brown bag had been sitting on the counter since we had first arrived. We both had this feeling that that had been our order this entire time and that they had blatantly let it sit there. I decided to try and get the attention of the other bartender, the one with black hair, to see if we had better luck with him. When he came to the register and I said "excuse me," he too didn't acknowledge me and so I just really quickly said, "we were wondering if our order is almost ready?" To which he responded without looking up at me, "I haven't spoken to you so I have no idea," and walked away. At this point I was really frustrated and didn't know what to do, it was a really weird feeling because there was all these people around, yet I felt so helpless and alone with just my friend... At this point we were just eyeing the brown bag to see if they were going to add anything to it or if it had really just been sitting there the whole time. About 2-3 minutes later the bartender with the glasses went and grabbed that bag, nothing ever being added to it since we had begun to put our eyes on it. He reached around the corner, put the bag on the counter, didn't say anything and walked away. We grabbed the bag and opened it. By this time I was just hoping that everything we had ordered was there how it was suppose to be so that we could leave this place and never return. But instead we opened the bag to find that they had really skimped us on the order of fries and tots that came with the burgers we had ordered, like really skimped us, like each of the bags were a quarter of the way full at most. When we managed to get the bartender with the black hair's attention to ask him why we had gotten so little fries and tots he simply said, "that's how much you get, they're proportionized," and walked away. We just left it at that and ended up leaving, and by the time we ended up eating our food it was no longer warm. I share this experience with ya'll because the way we left feeling that night was one of deep anger, sadness, disappointment, and frustration. And from what I witnessed I can't help but think that many other customers of color left feeling the same way that night and I'm certain that this has happened to so many others in the past... I don't know that sharing this experience will do anything or that these bartenders will ever be held accountable, but what I do know is that I will no longer sit silent when I'm either experiencing or witnessing discrimination at establishments where we are spending our hard earned money and being treated in a way that is simply not right. Walking in, I wasn't sure what I would find. From the outside it definitely looks like a run-down dive so I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and well lit it was. There was a wide range of patrons here: college crowd, middle aged lesbians, neighborhood posers, and everything in between. What I was surprised wasn't mentioned in any of the other reviews was the chalk drawing on the ceiling. I swear it looked like a giant chalkboard that people have been writing and drawing on. Considering the ceiling is like 14 feet up, I still don't know how they did it, but it's an interesting thing to look at. They have a nice set up with three pool tables between the bar and the area that seems dedicated to music, though that looked more like they moved some tables out of the way for the band than an actual 'real' stage area. But it seemed to be the place where the handful of us wanting to listen to music were congregated. I thought the bartenders were very friendly and helpful with just the right amount of surliness. He was even nice enough to hang around and talk to us for twenty minutes after he'd lost; we didn't even have to say one thing to him in response. That's how friendly the locals are, here. The bartenders have the most adorable scowls. The college kids are really big fans of modern country music, and they sing country song after country song on karaoke nights. My wife and I have been coming here for years -- since back when there were graffitied dollar bills stuck everywhere. The service, albeit quite casual, is always friendly. Their Blue Burger is the best we've ever had, and is probably the biggest reason we keep going back. That, and the great selection of draft beers. I'm officially pole-axed that anyone still considers the burgers good. The T-Room burger used to be a thing of terror and awe. An adult would have a mighty struggle on his/her hands to finish it in one sitting. Whether it's the regulars or a mix of U of P students (it kills me to see reviewers call them Catholic, just b/c they go to U of P... yeah they're active, practicing Catholics, the lot of 'em, no question!), or thankfully, there's also rarely a shortage of the touchy, douchey- hipster set. At this point in the game, I find this fact rather comforting and GREATLY amusing---- almost reassuring; as though it's proof positive that all indeed is right in the world. The main event at the T-Room is, and has long been, the booze. It's poured liberally with gusto by a rag-tag, ever changing bar crew who seem to usually have the fundamentals down on decent service. We can all drink to that, and don't be even a little bit surprised if the T-Room (and P-club) are still going strong, largely still unchanged, in another 30 years. they have a less-is-more, but successful formula there's no denying it. Yeah, never coming here again. Friends and I specifically called this place to watch the Oregon Women's Ducks play in the SWEET SIXTEEN for March Madness. We order drinks, it's on the TV, we are excited to support and Oregon team this far into the tournament. Male bartender comes over and begins switching the channel. Says the NCAA men's game is on and this TV shoots volume throughout the whole place. Bro, this is an OREGON team in the SWEET SIXTEEN. We told him we specifically called this bar to see if they were showing the women's game. He offers to put it on any other tv in the bar, but he needed this specific one for volume. He offered to buy us beers if we would move. We said no thanks to the moving, but could buy us beers for the inconvenience. He rescinded his offer. "It's March Madness," he said. NO SHIT DUDE. OREGON DUCK WOMEN ARE IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN. His reason? He had customers coming in to watch the men's game. OKAY you have FOUR paying customers right here wanting to watch the women's game and ZERO hypothetical customers for the men's game. We ended up moving to the back.... where the was a TV, with volume. Why couldn't the other customers move to the back of the bar with the other TV if there was also volume? We were there first? Oh, because there weren't any other customers. The bartender wanted to watch the men's game. Did not even cross his mind that women's basketball was even included in the biggest college tournament in the US. And to top it all off, he sent four paying female customers to THE BACK OF THE BAR because he wanted to watch the men's game. We left after the first quarter, no other customers had shown up. We went here for lunch because it's super close to my new house. The bartender was very friendly and had helpful tips, not only for the menu, but for the neighborhood. Got the fish and chips- Awesome! The batter was perfect and fried perfectly. The cook came out and said they make their own tartar sauce. Tastes homemade and it's delicious. We went to see the women's basketball game and called in advance to make sure it would be on to which they replied yes. Once we got there - a group of four women - we sat at the bar and started watching the game. Then, the male bartender started changing the channel saying that the men's game had to be on - that we could see the women's game at another tv at the back of the bar. His reasoning was that it was for the paying customers. Even though 1) we were the paying customers 2) the first ones to arrive and request the game 3) the only people in that section of the bar. When we tried to explain that he was being blatantly sexist, he was even more rude and patronizing. He offered to buy us one beer if we moved to the back of the room, clearly not caring to listen or understand why having the women's game was important. We eventually went to the back of the room, finished our drinks and then took our business elsewhere. I love this place. It is one of the best dive bars in North Portland. We recently moved to the area, and the Twilight room is fast becoming our favorite bar. Huge place with 2 or 3 pool tables, awesome wooden booths to sit in, and plenty of seating. They even do karaoke... I think on Tuesday nights? A couple other reviews have mentioned the bartenders not being that nice or helpful and I've had a completely different experience. Have had a few different ones serve us on separate occasions and they have been nothing but helpful and attentive each and every time. I even left my wallet there one night (I'm blaming the too many good drinks...) And came back the next day and they had it for me no problems and were super sweet about the whole thing. The food! Oh man, best burgers I've had in a while.... no joke. They even offer a boca patty instead of beef if you're into that. Have taken a few different people here as well and they are amazed. Everything I've tried I've been more than pleased with. Music selection is often varied depending on who is bartending... but sometimes that can be fun too. Too hot to cook so headed over here for some grub, suds and A/C. Hubby and I both had the fish and chips which were good. Batter was a little dense but the fish had good flavor. DANGEROUS. Do not eat here! My son, who has a peanut allergy, ate here recently. He ordered a safe meal but they proceeded to mix up his order and gave him a peanut butter burger. He had to call 911 and was taken by ambulance in anaphylactic shock. When confronted about this dangerous mistake, the management took no responsibility, and reported it was my son's fault for ordering a peanut butter burger. Why would anyone with this allergy order this? Conveniently, the waiter "lost" the ticket order after my son was taken away by ambulance so they cannot properly record their error. The manager wasn't interested in discussing this event or speaking with my son or his guests, leaving us with a costly ambulance and ER visit. Severe food allergies are common and most restaurants are taking this health hazard seriously. But after an ambulance comes to The Twilight Room, their management only assigns blame to the victim. read more

The bartenders are incredibly affable and entertaining, the food is delicious and comes out quick, and the drinks are affordable and well made. I'm super glad I decided to stop by the Twilight Room last Tuesday. Peter, who was bartending, was funny and had a great rapport with what looked to be a selection of regulars sitting at the bar. I played some pool and the table is in excellent condition, and the patio outside has a really delightful charm to it. I ordered The Rooster, which is a burger that has onion rings and teriyaki and peanut butter on it, and at first look I had no idea how I was going to be able to eat it- it looked massive!
