Tater tots were piping hot with the right amount of seasoning (crispy on the outside and soft in the inside). You get lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions on the side which were fresh. You can get fries, salad, or soup (I believe it's a up charge for tater tots or soup) Mozzarella Sticks were piping hot but, only tasted ok (the breading doesn't do it justice). This is my neighborhood bar and I've been coming here every now and then for 10+ years. I believe they're on their 3rd owner in this time span and unfortunately it just keeps going downhill. Much of which I believe is because they turned half of the bar into lotto machines, which doesn't attract the best crowds. It used to be a place where you could go and get some reasonably priced food and watch a game but now they're charging $16 for a subpar burger. Concordia Ale House is a bit of a haul from my own neighborhood, and there are a number of places with respectable taps in my area. Despite this fact, I find myself making the trek to Concordia every now and then. In other words, I come here on purpose, so I obviously must like the place. There are over 20 rotating draft beer selections--usually always including a few awesome IPAs and double IPAs (I'm a whore for those). They often have rather obscure offerings that you see just anywhere. They've also got an extensive import and domestic bottle selection--as good as many bottle shops. Food is your typical pub grub, done in typical fashion. I am rather partial to the Hades wings. The Hades sauce isn't hot AT ALL in my view, but it's quite tasty (which is why I crave it). I realize the whole "hot" thing is highly relative, and I like things hotter than most. So if it helps, I think the el jefe wings at Fire on the Mountain are pretty hot, but more than manageable. This place is super casual and cozy. TV with some sort of sport on. Two pool tables. Plenty of tables to eat at. I'd give it five stars, but the service can get a little slow when it's packed (not because the staff are slackers, but because they end up a little under-staffed). But what makes this place rather unique is how it demonstrated to me, for example, that despite our Oregon pride in our quality craft brew tradition, California has recently been kicking our ass in the beer department. And who has the audacity to make such a claim in the Rose City? Why the beer fans of Portland themselves! And why would they do such an unpatriotic thing? Because they participated in one of Concordia's blind taste tests, and picked their favorites, only to find to their horror that they were from California (eek!). Yeah. Concordia Ale House is fond of beer tastings. In the near future it's a tasting of beers of Colorado. Maybe it'll be beers from Bend, OR, or Southern California. Or maybe it'll be a contest (Oregon v. California, as described above). What does this tell us? The folks at Concordia are serious about good beer. And if you are also serious about good beer, you should come drink beer here, like I do. read more

They have a major problem with customers getting roofied. It happened to my friend just last week, and after talking to others I know who spend time here, it is a reoccurring problem. Luckily nothing happened more than her passing out and getting very sick, but that was after only two beers. We reported it to the manager. He said he knew, and that it has been reported many times recently, but he isn't willing to do anything more than "keep an eye out". Get a security guard already! A beer collection as impressive as Steve's makes me want to run around NE Portland wearing a KFC bucket over my head while gaily shrieking and playing peek-a-boo. My love stops at the beer. You mean well. And you are trying. But you just don't seem to get it. Just look around- you have no atmosphere. Come on guy! You have as much ambiance as the stereotypical "bachelor pad'. The awkward table placement? The kids? The unnecessary and out of place game room? The lack of decent music? Seriously, let's talk about the whole music thing. This is Portland. Some of my best beer-afficianado friends love the place. I'm lukewarm, going really only for location, decent food, and Meet the Brewer nites. (I enjoyed the crusty smoky old Et Cetera Tavern - way better, where locals were WELCOME - and met with a SMILE - even if food was non-existant to horrid) The Concordia has better than average food for a Pub - you can actually invite non-beer-snob friends who have lunch or dinner as their main idea. You can rely on finding a stellar brew here. Taps rotate, and there's a full Beer Fridge with windows accessible to prying eyes. So explore a bit before deciding, to broaden your palette. Staff know that means you'll be back, even if they're sorta mean to you. Nites they've had music were just plain weird...someone with skills needs to do the Booking, and set up sound appropriately, and it could Rock the 'hood, as the Et Cetera formerly did. This is one place I wish a Server would acknowledge my presence with a nod, as I walk up, even if they are already busy, because if I have to stand around awkwardly at that bar one more time for more than 5 minutes, wondering if the wait for attention will last an hour - and feeling ready to elbow everyone else away, wanting a little attention for Beer purposes....well dangit, you know what I mean. Where else in town can you get this kind of Purveyor indifference when your passion really is a superb match for their quality Pint s? Went here twice while I was in Portland with a friend. The first time we went we got the two dollar breakfast sandwiches and bloody Mary's and they were good but the server left our sandwiches sitting there for like 10 mins, lwhile chatting with a customer. Didn't really matter to us though because it was so worth it for two dollars, we even came back the next day and this time the server got our food right to us steaming hot. They have really good hot sauce called aardvark, and it makes the food a good spicy. Not sure how long they will have the deal for so go check it out! Concordia Ale House is one of those places you wouldn't normally think of to grab a beer but it is so worth it! Consistant rotating taps of great beer plus numerous bottles. And I mean numerous. Like 100. The prices are great. Staff is great. Food is quite tasty as well. Very generous portions. My only qualm is that I ordered a taco sald with all the fixins. It was great except they used hamburger meat instead of ground beef. Wish I had known this upon ordering and I would have gotten chicken. I just ate around it. After a couple beers who really cares right? Their pork tacos are good though. Piled high with meat and toppings. Mmmm. More than enough food! Their menu has a lot of great options from huge salads, hamburgers, typical pub fare, dinner plates, and more. The had quite a few great beers to choose from (some I have never seen on tap anywhere else). Other Info: Parking was so-so...They offer free pool everyday. Lots of seating. Great service. Big menu with lots of great items to choose from. Great Music...And TV's for watching Sports! I do think it was a little pricey, but the food was very good! OK, mabye I was a little bit harsh last time. I came back for BEER BRAWL III. What is that, you ask? Well, you can get a sampler. This sampler is 100% mystery beers. All you know is you have: 3 Pale Ales 3 IPA's 3 Stouts 3 "wild cards" You then pick your favorite from each category and the results are tabulated. What.a.great.idea! Sorry guys "we" lost to WA by a mere 4 votes (a very little known, but very good brewery...my favorite in the NW called "Snipes" was one of the WA beers, which shocked me. Kudos to them!) CONFESSION: I expected CA to win, please don't "Stone"* me to death. Still it was a great time. One problem. I seem to have only taken photos of my BLANK ballot (and the glorious sampler too, of course). I neglected to shoot one of my actual selections. EPIC FAIL. I came here on my day off to enjoy a cheap lunch and a beer and got exactly what I wanted. I stumbled across this place when I was shopping at the New Seasons across the street and saw that there was a bar across the street. I used my handy dandy Yelp app to see what their specials were, and since I was starving it was a perfect match. During their happy hour the lunch specials are only 3.75 and I got a big plate of chicken nachos in return. The food was freshly made and for the price I paid it was a pretty good deal. I was too lazy to make something at home, and for the price and quality I got I was pleased. I also got a Terminal Gravity IPA which was only two dollars, since apparently on Tuesdays they have two dollar bottles. The service was good and the lady who was helping me (Megan?) was friendly and quick. My food came out in less than ten minutes, and I was greeted at the door and told what their specials were that day. Definitely a step up from other places in Portland where the service is notorious for being terrible. I'll be coming back here to sample their other offerings, but as of now I am happy with Concordia Ale House. I'll be back soon. read more

We showed up here for my friend's birthday. I live in the neighborhood and come here often. We walked in and waited for a long time and never got served. Finally, someone walked in after finishing their cigarette and didn't even bother to help us. Still ignored us and kept tending to other people that still had full drinks... I walked in with my friends, sat down and waited for our waitress. There were two other tables and a smattering of people at the bar, so pretty slow. So we waited. And waited. The single waitress we saw walked by us no less than five times to help the other tables but because we couldn't move fast enough, weren't able to catch her. 20 minutes later, she came over and cheerfully said, "I didn't realize you'd sat down!"...despite the fact we were right in between her other two tables. The bartenders are much better with the service. So the stars really go for the beer selection, which is quite extensive. The bar area is pretty neat too, so I'd opt for that if you're just in search of a beer and not food too. My buddy had a Groupon for the Concordia Ale House, so we decided to try it for lunch. It was well worth the drive from the Westside. Our bartender/server was super friendly, (I didn't catch her name.) I arrived later than my friends, but as soon as I walked in the door she pointed me around the corner to where they were sitting. Their beer selection was outstanding--lots of local brews on tap, and several on nitro. I'm still on a quest for the best burger in Portland, and the basic burger with bacon and cheese at Concordia is definitely in the running. My buddies loved their sandwiches. Apparently the French Dip is stellar. Prices seemed a bit steep for pub food, (burger with bacon and cheese will set you back about $10,) but the quality is a bit better than standard pub food. Some other perks: Free WiFi, free pool everyday, Happy Hour starting at 3pm, and a Tuesday special that makes me want to come back on a Tuesday. I really wish this place wasn't so far away from Beaverton. Then again, maybe that's a good thing. I'd be here everyday. The only downside, (and it's just me being picky,) was the on-street parking. I don't know how the parking situation gets in the evenings or on weekends, but street parking often leaves me frustrated because I can never seem to find a spot. CAH used to be an institution. An amazing beer selection with well prepared pub food. I'd go out of my way to go there from downtown at times. It was a destination spot in Portland for many who enjoy beer and pubs in general. That's no longer the case. And in the last 2 years the service, food and even beer selections have tanked drastically. The food is the worst decline though. Inedible many instances. And it sucks. Because having a good local tavern to watch a game or just grab a few drinks and chill out after work is an essential component of a Portland neighborhood. Especially in Winter. Ironically, I've lived in Concordia now for going on 5 years. I'm 4 blocks away and I never go anymore. The food has declined drastically. The service is abysmal most nights, or they're doing their very best as servers but are chronically understaffed. That makes it even more uncomfortable because I have empathy for the servers, but I'm still waiting around endlessly. You'll wait 20 minutes to get a menu or even get a beer unless you sit at the bar and even then it's hit or miss. So sadly I can't recommend a place I used to travel across town to go to. Now that I live so close it's even more of a bummer to experience its rapid decline. read more

This neighborhood ale house has been one of our favorite go tos throughout our 12 years of living within walking distance. After today's experience, we won't be returning. Menu recently chaged- prices went up and portions got smaller. Server forgot items from our order. Kids ordered mac and cheese from the kids menu and their new sauce has tiny chunks of tomatoes in it. (Gross- kids wouldnt touch it). Kids food came with a drink but what we ordered for them to drink (root beer) wasn't included as an option and our server didn't tell us. Beer selection was sub par. With all of the choices in our neighborhood, there are literally 50 other kid friendly places that we can walk to and spend $70 for lunch. We will go somewhere else next time, totally over this place. read more

Being a Concordia Alum this place is all about nostalgia for me. Had a Hef a bottle of sessions and a golden ale called "Big Booty." The "Big Booty" tasted a lot like Kona Brews "Big wave." When I asked for 2 "Big Booties" the bartender asked me "have you had a "Big Booty" before?" And I thought to my self .... well .... I've had some bi.... oh she means the beer!!! ... "no I have not had a "Big Booty before" she then proceeded to tell me "Do you want a sample of the Big booty before you get the whole thing?" Good to know that you can get a sample of the "Big Booty" or any other types of beer they have. Also that's 7 times I used "Big Booty" in this review. And I've now used "Big booties" twice. read more
