I came across these old pictures that I took and I remember this place as a great place to chill and have a craft beer, or more! This place has dozens and dozens of beers to choose from, so this is definitely a place to go if you love craft beer and are in Portland. I believe I was on my way to the airport when I stopped here.

Concordia Ale House is a bit of a haul from my own neighborhood, and there are a number of places with respectable taps in my area. Despite this fact, I find myself making the trek to Concordia every now and then. In other words, I come here on purpose, so I obviously must like the place. There are over 20 rotating draft beer selections--usually always including a few awesome IPAs and double IPAs (I'm a whore for those). They often have rather obscure offerings that you see just anywhere. They've also got an extensive import and domestic bottle selection--as good as many bottle shops. Food is your typical pub grub, done in typical fashion. I am rather partial to the Hades wings. The Hades sauce isn't hot AT ALL in my view, but it's quite tasty (which is why I crave it). I realize the whole "hot" thing is highly relative, and I like things hotter than most. So if it helps, I think the el jefe wings at Fire on the Mountain are pretty hot, but more than manageable. This place is super casual and cozy. TV with some sort of sport on. Two pool tables. Plenty of tables to eat at. I'd give it five stars, but the service can get a little slow when it's packed (not because the staff are slackers, but because they end up a little under-staffed). But what makes this place rather unique is how it demonstrated to me, for example, that despite our Oregon pride in our quality craft brew tradition, California has recently been kicking our ass in the beer department. And who has the audacity to make such a claim in the Rose City? Why the beer fans of Portland themselves! And why would they do such an unpatriotic thing? Because they participated in one of Concordia's blind taste tests, and picked their favorites, only to find to their horror that they were from California (eek!). Yeah. Concordia Ale House is fond of beer tastings. In the near future it's a tasting of beers of Colorado. Maybe it'll be beers from Bend, OR, or Southern California. Or maybe it'll be a contest (Oregon v. California, as described above). What does this tell us? The folks at Concordia are serious about good beer. And if you are also serious about good beer, you should come drink beer here, like I do.

This has always been one of my favorite bars . AMAZING workers and the people in the neighborhood aren't to bad either . I'm so happy that they are staying afloat during covid and that they are offering their great food . They keep it clean I'm always seeing Jerry or Troy spraying and wiping . Thank you guys .

The name "Concordia Ale House" sounds - I don't know- a bit stuffy and fancy for this L shaped pub. So, from this point forward I will call it "Steve". A beer collection as impressive as Steve's makes me want to run around NE Portland wearing a KFC bucket over my head while gaily shrieking and playing peek-a-boo. I won't even get into what I want to do on Two Dollar Tuesdays (but it involves a slip-N-slide.). Where was I? The beer. Steve has exceptional taste in beer and has about twenty unusual and faboo beers on tap, alongside a wide selection of bottled beers. Can I talk to Steve alone for a moment? Listen up Steve. My love stops at the beer. You mean well. And you are trying. But you just don't seem to get it. Just look around- you have no atmosphere. Come on guy! You have as much ambiance as the stereotypical "bachelor pad'. The awkward table placement? The kids? The unnecessary and out of place game room? The lack of decent music? Seriously, let's talk about the whole music thing. This is Portland. We are into our music as much as we are into our beer, so could you pretty please invest in a good sound system and get somebody with musical taste to help you out? And no, the radio in the kitchen does not count Steve. I'm sorry to harp on this point, but drinking a fabulous beer in a sterile cafetorium like setting is worse than piss in my Cheerios. Ya know? I know this sounds like a bitch session Steve. It is not. Consider this your intervention. We all love you. Please- ditch the game room. Consider ways to make the dining area feel more like a living room. Hire a few more servers. Kill the kids (not literally). And lastly, keep up the good work on the beer. Come here Steve. Let's hug it out.

The kid space was a great size and my two small ones loved being able to play while we ate. She even made our kids chocolate milk even though it's not on the menu. Our food was amazing. We had the kids butter noodles (I'd order that for my adult meal if I could!), kids cheeseburger, deviled eggs, caprese with prosciutto, and fish and chips. The fish was so good and big! The beer is solid you probably already know this. This brewery has been pumping out solid beers for years and really have their styles dialed in. Like many others, I lean towards their IPAs and being an east coast native it's so nice to have their fresh squeeze style IPAs so abundant here. The food has always been good here. I've tried a few of their offerings, burgers, salads and the like. Never had a bad bite to eat. The interior is nice and spacious but this place can get crowded especially during the summer with tourists as it's location is ideal if you're visiting downtown. If I had one wish for this place it would be for some better outdoor seating as most of it is just strung along their storefront out on the sidewalk. That works for me, especially on days I just want to munch, sip and people watch.

Having tucked away spaces lined with books to actually sit and read, talk, or hang out in is so rare in a bar setting. It makes it feel more like a community space than just another tap house. At the same time, it works really well for large groups, we've rolled in deep before and never had an issue finding room to spread out. The beer selection is excellent. Thoughtful and rotating enough to keep things interesting without being overwhelming. Whether you want something hoppy, something dark, or something easy drinking, they've got you. And the left wing vibe is the cherry on top. It's refreshing to spend time in a space that wears its politics on its sleeve, pro-labor, pro-community, unapologetically itself. It feels like a place built for the people who actually live in the neighborhood.

You can play board games here if no one's home is big enough for your group (their website says they no longer book the conference room for board games, but you can game there if it's not reserved). There's a few games in the upstairs green room closet. On a Sunday afternoon, there were plenty of spots open, but it is not dead either. Theres a variety of seating to suit all body types and preferences. First floor is wheelchair accessible. The upstairs bathroom has ducks on the ceiling so that's worth a visit alone.
