In this part of the downtown core, there are many of these one off convience stores around, luckily for this one, they are the only one. Very little is at the bottom end of Hornby Street now, as this is mostly a Monday to Friday business oriented street with office buildings, as most retail places (the Channel store as an example) have shut their doors due to lack of traffic. This little store tries to do it all, with your fridge of soda and energy drinks, your loads of tobacco needed for those work breaks, a lotto ticket (for the dreamer in all of us), and now they even offer passport photos (since Sinclair is right around the corner) and dry cleaning (for the person who really has everything in fast forward in life and no time). Always greeted by a family of Korean's who run this little shop, it's always a nice experience of a little business trying to survive in the downtown core. Came here for some passport photos after reading some Yelp reviews. This is smack in the middle of downtown. Parking is nonexistent unless you like hemorrhaging money. Wow, this guy is good. The setup is all there. All you have to do is sit, stare at the corner, get blinded (flash) a couple of times, and 5 minutes later your pictures are given to you in an envelope with a smile. Very nice Korean couple running the place. My 2 photos came to $12.00 after tax. They're not the cheapest, but it was quick and painless, and the service was excellent. For that, I give them 4 stars. I don't normally frequent small convenient stores like Jubilee Smoke & Things as I don't smoke, and I'm not the kind of person who purchases overpriced junk food and pop on impulse, or who desperately needs random household items or stationary and office supplies in an emergency. But last year I needed a key cut and I noticed a sign offering key cutting services, so I popped in to Jubilee Smoke & Things during my break, as it is fairly close to my work. The employee (who is probably the owner) was polite, and my key was cut quickly, no problems at all. Yesterday, I once again needed a couple of keys cut, so I went back to Jubilee as I knew it would be quick and easy. Once again, no issues at all. Both times the employee/owner said that if there's a problem with the keys, to come back and she'll redo them, but no need; the keys were just fine. Each key was $3.50. I'm not sure what the going rate is to get a key cut, but $3.50 isn't outrageous for material and labour! read more

The only place to go for passport, citizenship, permanent residency photos! I've used this business for photos to renew my U.S. passport, as well as to renew my Canadian Permanent Resident card. Each time, the owner took excellent photos with acute attention to detail. He would make sure my collar was straightened and tilted my head to the perfect position. The photos were ready within 3-5 minutes and properly stamped on the back with the date etc. The store also carries drinks and snacks ... and is the size of a walk-in closet. However, they have a photo background, stool, and professional camera equipment. On my last visit, I noticed that they've upgraded the lighting within the store so that it's ultra-illuminated for picture-perfect photos without shadows. read more

Bought lottery tickets here today. The woman politely asked me for 24 dollars. She then handed me the interac machine. It said 24.10 I asked her if she had made a mistake to which she replied it was store policy. Passing the buck. Guess what? she is part of the store ownership which means she IS the policy. I asked why it was policy (since to my knowledge no respectable merchant does this..) A man came barreling out from the back and rudely said "you don't like you leave". What a lowly, uneducated response. This is a very dishonest way of conducting business. Telling the client verbally one thing then, handing an interac machine with a different total. There is no sign on the counter that displays this over charge. They know they are tricking people. I guess if you are living in poverty or desperate financially, this is what a merchant stoops do doing. Slyly adding a price gouge or surtax to every transaction. Pitiful and repugnant. read more

Got my permanent resident photo done here, and the owner did a fantastic job. It looks like a basic convenience store, but as soon as I said what I needed, he pulled down a backdrop, grabbed a chair and pulled out the camera with a professional grade lens on it. He knew exactly what specifications I needed, and once he noticed that I was a little bit sweaty, he gave me a tissue to wipe down with so there wasn't too much glare. Great customer service and really reasonable pricing. I forget how much I paid, but it was about $15 or less. He showed me that it exactly matched specifications, and I was out of there in less than 15 minutes total. I got the approved card in the mail today, so he got it spot on. read more

I have been here several times for my passport/visa photos and this is THE Place to go if you are in downtown. The owners, Korean couples, are always friendly and helpful. Even if you have no idea of the measurements, they literally have a whole binder of requirements from most countries to reference from. They are not just informative, but the photos come out unexpectedly well for the price you pay for. The Korean guy will make sure you are fully prepared (e.g., get rid of grease on your face) before taking the photos. I just had one of the best passport photo experiences I've ever had! I showed up wearing a white shirt - a big no-no against the white background requirement for CAD passport photos - and the lady in there kindly lent me her cardigan without hesitation. The guy then proceeded to oil blot my face, take a picture, blot again, take a picture, blot again (...yeah apparently my cheeks are quite "shiny"), and when he was finally happy with the result showed me the picture to make sure I was okay with it. after reading the wonderful reviews on this place i decided to go there. Entering the small store i saw that it had everything you needed!! :D it was great! it even had a laptop if you got bored. i went there to get my passport taken and the man who worked there was soooo nice and helpful!! he fixed my hair, shirt, and gave me a tissue for my the oil on my face so the picture wouldn't come out shiny. it took probably less than 5 minutes so that was good. and there's even a $2 off coupon if you go to their website so the total i had to pay was only $10! so cheap :) so all in all the experience to that place was great! i recommend it to everyone! i will always go there now. read more

Courteous customer service, professional quality, and cheap price $12! I went there for my first Canadian Permanent Resident card. It's located near Sinclair centre. The owner understood its photo specification once I told it's for PR card. He set up the equipment quickly and advised me show both ears and be relax with lips. Looked at the first shot on his camera's screen, he advised me to put on facial powder around T zone of my face which was a bit shining on the photo. I actually didn't have the one but they had one prepared. The photo came out professional quality. I'll go back for my passport next time. I didn't think I could find any place to take passport photos that early in the morning. The owner of the store was so friendly and professional. While I was at his store, I learned that he takes passport pictures for visas for many other countries such as India, China etc. This little store can take great passport photos and price was more than reasonable. the main reason i come here is to get passport photos done. the korean man who does them is an expert - you just have to tell him what you're getting your photos taking for (immigration, passport, etc.) and he knows exactly what to do. he'll know exactly what size you need, how to style you, what color background you need on your photo, etc. he's a perfectionist as well when it comes to styling you and taking your picture - he'll hand you a tissue to wipe the oil from your forehead so you won't look so shiny in your picture. he's very quick in printing them out and resizing/cutting the pictures to the correct size. he'll even give you a discount card for the next time you come back to take pictures, which is awesome. i don't think i'm ever going to get my passport pictures taken anywhere else but here. read more

I went to this store today to take my photo for the US Green Card lottery. They are very nice people. It took only about 7 min. He even cropped the image so that it meets the specification. You can have the picture on CD or have it sent to your email address. Plus, they have a computer at the entrance area and you can check if you get an email with the picture attached. Thia shop is very useful for the traveler. When I suddenly lost my passport and photo, I couldn't find any store to make a passport photo. Most shops were closed at early morning and also a few opened shops was really expensive, plus over hours necessary. Then one of my friend found this shop at 6.50AM!!! We did not believe our eyes because it was too early. Additionally, this shop looks quite small. However we realized that our guess was totally wrong. This shop is really BIG!! There are many stuffs which we want: for example, food, drink, internet access, passport photo, dry cleaning, news paper, tobacco, good quality coffee, fresh fruits, copy machine, etc. Specially, the owner was really kindness. When we took passport photo, he tried to take several times until I felt good. Also the price of most products was not expensive. Personally, I was feeling a bit cheaper.
