I did take a friend and we had a wonderful meal. My steak was done to perfection. I would highly recommend it.

I had the pork chop which had the perfect compliment of the apple compote and my wife had the stuffed chicken breast. Bot were awesome. The staff makes you feel like family from the minute you arrive until the time that you leave. Whether a romantic evening or getting together with friends. The Lucky Pirate is the place to be.

Okay, not "bad" and not "great."…read more Started with the chowder which was too smooth and the flour was overpowering. I was hoping for "great" in a coastal town, We ordered steamers as an appetizer and it came out with our dinner, not ideal. Good flavor but super slimy. That's either age or not cleaned well but either way they weren't great. I ordered the Yellowtail and it was great. I had the sweet potatoes on the side and they were the best thing any of us had. The boy ordered pasta which was kind of forgettable and my wife ordered the Gnocchi, which she said was good. (It was good enough she wouldn't share). :) The place is kind of a dive, you walk through some random slot machines and a little bar to get to the actual dining room which is decorated straight out of the 70's. That's less of a deal since you don't eat ambiance, Next time I'll try the pork chop (they were out) as it looks delicious.

They open at 11am and we came before 11:30 and there was only 1 other couple seated. The waitress was very polite and friendly. We were seated quickly, given menus and water. One lady in our group can't eat gluten and has a few other allergies so she ask if she could eat the "soup of the day". Our waitress replied "I'm pretty sure". My friend asked if she was sure or pretty sure. She said she would check but never came back. Then the weird part happened. We had placed our orders, the other tables were now full, but nobody had food, except that one party that arrived before us. We assume there was some problem in the kitchen but she never came back to explain or apologize for the very long wait. Not to us, or anyone. When she eventually brought the food out, there was no apology or acknowledgement for the long wait. And she brought my friend a salad instead of the soup which she had inquired about. She did explain that she couldn't get an answer to her allergy question so she wanted to be safe. But wouldn't you tell the customer before just bringing the food? Anyway the food was all delicious!! I ordered the halibut sliders which were cooked perfectly. The "soup of the day" was okay but needed salt and pepper, which we requested. They brought us 2 pepper shakers, no salt. My wife had pasta bolognese which she loved. Her salad was bland. So overall the food was very good. The service was below par

Both really good and made in their stone oven. We also got the calmari for appetizers. Calamari cooked perfectly, not rubbery. Light batter, crispy, and seasoned really well that gave it great flavor. Others in the group ordered a clam chowder bread bowl, chicken Parmesan, fish & chips and shrimp & chips. The overall consensus was good. Casual atmosphere and perfect location. It's at the boardwalk near an arcade. During the day, there's also ice cream and coffee nearby. Couldn't get any pictures.

We came down to Brookings to take care of some business and decided to stop in for lunch and a drink afterwards. We weren't especially hungry so we ordered our usual favorites (clam chowder for me and steamer clams for the fellow) that combo usually helps us decide whether or not we want to return, without breaking the bank on a new spot. Our server was delightful, she was kind and attentive without being overbearing. Our order took a little longer than expected for what we ordered but we didn't mind, we had some nice blackberry cider they had on tap to tide us over. I was a little disappointed when our meals came out and I didn't get a slice of bread with my bowl of clam chowder like the fellow did with his steamers, but we were able to buy a half batard for $5 and that was perfect for us to split. It came out warm with a side of butter and complimented the chowder much nicer than the oyster crackers they originally brought out would have. In fact I recommend getting the bread if you order the chowder, it almost stole the show. The chowder was delicious, could've been warmer but still very tasty, the potatoes were cut super thin, and the clams were plump and tender and tasted fresh, they did add bacon but not in overwhelming amounts, and I thought it was spiced perfectly. I only added a few shakes of red pepper flakes to finish it. The fellow thought his steamer clams/mussels were marvelous, with a very flavorful broth, and he loved the fact that he was allowed to mix them. They made a good first impression on us, we will definitely be returning for dinner and ordering a couple of pizzas and perhaps a salad as well. Who knows, they may prove to be one of our new favorite spots.

Party of three and went in to celebrate a birthday. We ordered: 1 oyster shooter, 1 crispy oyster appetizer, 1 patty melt, 1 cheeseburger basket, and 1 fish & chips. She walked away and we had to call her back to order drinks. The oyster shooter came out quickly. It was huge! We also saw another guest with a whole crab. We then realized that there was a seasonal crab menu. Our server never told us about the special menu. I would have easily ordered the whole crab or seafood tower (I forget what it's called but it had scallops, crab, sirloin, etc.). Our meals came out, patty melt, cheeseburger, fish and chips, and crispy oyster appetizer. Wait...what? Why didn't the crispy oyster come out with the shooter? Oh...because our server gave us a meal instead of the appetizer since it had a pile of French fries with it and we were charged for it! Overall, the meals were good. Our daughter enjoyed her patty melt. My crispy oysters and fish and chips were OK, nothing to write home about. Also, the server did not ask how I wanted my fish and chips since the menu offers them deep fried or grilled. They came deep fried. Either way is fine with me but if there is an option, the server should know that and ask. After our meals, we ordered two slices of brown butter cake and instead were served two pieces of mile high chocolate cake. At this point, it was useless to complain to the unattentive server. Probably won't go back.
