First time here. Did not have a good experience and emailed the owner twice but never got a reply. No reason to return if the owner can't provide reliable customer service which is identical to what we experienced with our server. She walked away and we had to call her back to order drinks. The oyster shooter came out quickly. It was huge! We also saw another guest with a whole crab. We then realized that there was a seasonal crab menu. Our server never told us about the special menu. I would have easily ordered the whole crab or seafood tower (I forget what it's called but it had scallops, crab, sirloin, etc.). Our meals came out, patty melt, cheeseburger, fish and chips, and crispy oyster appetizer. Wait...what? Why didn't the crispy oyster come out with the shooter? Oh...because our server gave us a meal instead of the appetizer since it had a pile of French fries with it and we were charged for it! Overall, the meals were good. Our daughter enjoyed her patty melt. My crispy oysters and fish and chips were OK, nothing to write home about. Also, the server did not ask how I wanted my fish and chips since the menu offers them deep fried or grilled. They came deep fried. Either way is fine with me but if there is an option, the server should know that and ask. After our meals, we ordered two slices of brown butter cake and instead were served two pieces of mile high chocolate cake. At this point, it was useless to complain to the unattentive server. What you're eating tonight was swimming this morning in the ocean!I I ordered the fish and chips and yes, the fish is going to be Rock Fish, but they had a grilled option. The service was good, the clams shouldn't even be served especially at a price of 16 dollars, all I got for the money was 5 small toasts in a broth and all the clams combined would not fill up a table spoon. FOOD POISONING! We eat here at the suggestion of our hotel during our 1-day road trip through Oregon. We were grateful they had a dog friendly patio for my Service Dog. The services was good but they rushed us through every detail. The food looked good and tasted good but I have never been so sick in my life. Threw up from 11:00PM until 3:00AM. I won't post photos or video but you can image. I do NOT recommend this restaurant for its "fresh" seafood. The mashed potatoes need an overhaul. Unfortunately this establishment is in decline.. When I arrived in Brookings 8 years ago Catalyst came highly recommended and justifiably so. Food was fresh, well prepared and the staff delightful. Not so much these days. The restaurant has suffered what all businesses have. Increasing prices and staffing issues. Help turnover being my main complaint. Some truly try to please, others are obviously stressed and a few just don't give a damn. Maybe owner management will correct this, maybe no. In the interim my suggestion would be SuperFly in town. Our server was quick to take a drink order and brought our beer. I asked her about the fish and chips fish and she advised it was rock fish. I asked if it was more like cod or halibut as those are the ones we have seen around here. She looked irritated and said she couldn't say. The fish was good but very greasy. Unfortunately, we had to wait longer than necessary to place our order when the staff focused more on patrons with to-go orders. Once our order was in, the wait time to receive our food was minimal. In fact, we just started eating our salads when they brought out our tacos... which was rather off putting actually. So needless to say, we didn't wait too long to eat our tacos so we could enjoy them while they were still warm. Service could have been better. Food was good. The restaurant itself was on the smaller side, at least the front room was, but aesthetically pleasing with tables appropriately spaced out and coastal inspired artwork throughout.
