Wow! When we pulled up to Two Drummers, I had no idea what to expect. The restaurant was fairly unassuming but the moment food started rolling out, I was more than impressed. We started by ordering a bunch of appetizers, including the Brisket Burnt Ends. I'm fairly well versed in KC burnt ends so it's hard to compare them to burnt ends anywhere else in the country. I will say that I loved Two Drummers' addition of the chipotle aioli. The Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Cheese Curds are certainly worth ordering for the table. Our table split the massive Family Meal. Between six of us, we still had some food leftover. The brisket and ribs are some of the best I've had in Virginia. I really didn't add any extra sauce because I wanted to smoky flavor of the meat to shine on its own. I'd never heard of a grit cake before coming to Two Drummers, but now I'm obsessed. Best bbq i have had in my life thus far. The pulled pork burger was to die for. Mashed potatoes and gravy and baked beans slapped. Corn bread was delicious. We were inspired to go here from several positive previous reviews on this restaurant + an intriguing menu of classics + something a little different. Glad we did! We sat in the covered outside at a high top picnic table. Great outdoor space with live music a couple days a week. We were so happy with our food and the customer service from our server, Stewart. She made us feel like we had been there 100 times (in a good way) even though it was our first time. The blackened tuna bites with the tomato ranch sauce was a flavorful and filling, yet light starter. I got the Smoked pulled pork BBQ sandwich with coleslaw & green beans. To me a sign of a good sandwich is when there is almost a second serving of meat left on the plate, and there was! The smoke was perfect & juicy. I added some BBQ sauce, but the meat stood alone even without it. Also got the crisp green beans as my side; they are doused in butter, but they are real green beans. My husband got the Honey Brined Chicken with sweet potato fries and Mac & cheese. The chicken had a beautiful cripsy glaze & excellent flavor. I could eat here at least 5 times and get something different every time. Also if you're vegetarian, there are options for you!! I haven't seen that much at a BBQ spot. We were visiting the Williamsburg area for a few days and looking to try local food. We are so glad we stop here. Two Drummers Smokehouse food was delicious! We were served by Joy W. She was great and attentive. We told her we don't eat pork, we came for the brisket. She was helpful advising us of which side items were made with pork or without. The prices were a little higher than the other places we tried however, the portions and taste balanced the price difference. Oh, and their homemade tomato-ranch, total deliciousness!! I would normally give Two Drummers Smokehouse a 5 star review, but the last time I went I tried their chicken sandwich. Now I know chicken is not their moneymaker, but the description of the sandwich sounded so good that I wanted to try it. The chicken tasted like it had been fried in the same oil as fish or something. Not a fan! The green beans were wonderful as per usual. I will just stick with the pork barbecue from now on. I read all the good ratings here. Guess I must have hit a bad night. Ate here a lot before covid, haven't been back even though it's only minutes from my house. Ordered takeout. Got my order wrong, was upcharged for a side without being told, got home and found out they'd left out my grits cake which was my other side. I'd ordered Pork and Chicken Plate $22 1/2 Chicken and Pulled Pork with two sides and Cornbread. As you can see the cornbread is INCLUDED, plus 2 sides. I get home, cornbread's at the bottom and soggy and inedible because of the juice from the meat, pork barbecue is nowhere as good as it used to be, chicken is just so so. Extremely disappointing and I'll never go back, which is a shame as it's literally only minutes from my house. If you're getting takeout make sure you check your order before you leave! read more

A good friend of mine said I HAD to eat at Two Drummers Smokehouse in Toana, just outside of Williamsburg, Virginia. Well today I got the chance to do so. I had the 12 hour smoked brisket, with green beans, and coleslaw. Cleanliness 7/10 (tables and chairs are older), service 7/10, brisket 9/10, green beans 10/10, cole slaw 9/10. Two Drummers is an hour away from us, but the weather was nice for a drive and we wanted to give them a try. This place is a hidden gem! The staff had that good southern hospitality and seated us in the very comfortable heated patio. They have a whiskey list with great choices, and other cocktails as well. The fried items we got (fried okra, sweet potato fries, curly fries) were super! All crispy, okra cooked well, and the thickness of their curly fries somehow made it better! The Pimento Burger was ordered medium rare and cooked perfectly, with great flavor and a beautiful thick piece of pork on top. The corn bread had a nice sweet and homemade flavor. I do wish that the BBQ was juicier, it was rather dry when we received it. The table is well equipped with different sauces and we used those to moisten the meat. We really enjoyed our little date here, and if you're from Southeast Virginia and was to go for a little drive, I say stop on through! read more

The first night we got into town we stopped here and they had run out of food so weren't seating anymore people! It was about 7pm on a Sunday night! Decided we'd have to go back if it was that popular they ran out of food even though the reviews weren't the greatest! We sat out on the patio with our dogs. Our server was amazing! She has dogs too so she was so good with ours! She asked if she could bring them a meat sample and we said yes even though we normally don't give them table food! We thought she was going to come back with this little sliver of meat but she brought out this container that had about 4 slices of brisket and then got down and fed them! When our food came out we were just as surprised by how much food we got! The plates were HUGE! The brisket wasn't the best I'd ever had but it was good! Mac n cheese was good too. Hush puppies not so much - they were very dense and over cooked. My hubs had the half chicken and pulled pork. The chicken was good and he said the pulled pork was good. He got mashed potatoes which were also good. The dipping sauce I got was supposed to be spicy but it had zero spice to it! Drinks were very good - especially the one the hubs got. Can't remember the name of it but it was kinda like a rum punch. It was my birthday so we did get a slice of cake to share and took it home because we were too full to even finish our food! From our server, Latoya, to the BBQ, this was hands down best meal. We are visiting from Jersey and my daughter wanted ribs, this establishment does not disappoint. As we were walking in the owners were super friendly and gave us tips on where to get firewood, and the servers were flexible with where we wanted to sit! As for the meal, from the beans, sprout slaw, Mac and cheese, corn bread, fried green tomatoes (my favorite), collards, applesauce. Now onto the BBQ: ribs, pork belly, brisket, pulled pork, it was as fall off the bone, tender and smoked to perfection. The sauces were delicious. This establishment has the best BBQ! I always get the pulled pork with two sides, mainly because it's just so good that I can't get away from it! But my boyfriend always tries their daily specials. We've never had a bad meal here! The cherry wood smoked pork is simply amazing; the flavor is completely different from other Q that we've tried. And they've brought back the Cheddar Grit Cake as one of their sides, hallelujah!! Crispy on top, creamy in the middle, all around amazing! My boyfriend had the corned beef & cabbage special this afternoon, served with red potatoes & cornbread. He couldn't finish his plate! That's another thing, the portions are very generous!! Truly a mixed bag: loved the cornbread, hot bbq sauce, pulled chicken was solid. Less than loved: mac and cheese this was kinda watery, very small portion, and missing cheese, caesar salad was ok (carrots in there?). I did not like the ribs, flavorless and had a ton of fat on them. My husband had brisket, mashed potatoes, and green beans he ate his whole meal but "felt it was good but nothing special." Food prices are fair enough, cocktail prices seemed a bit high imo, service was excellent. I'd come back if I was in the area and choose some different items. read more
